Website for final season is up with a prologue and outfits. These new S.O.N.G. uniforms look like they came out of an old pulp book, like the Rocketeer. Also America seems to be even more of a villain this time. Not sure if I want the girls to save it or burn it to the ground.

The girls should kiss on the lips.

I recently watched the first season. I have a theory that the only reason it even got a second season is that Chris is really hot, because that was the only thing it had going for it. The entire thing was one big clichéfest, essentially everything people complain about in battle shonen series condensed into one series. The writing was pretty fucking bad, and really beat you over the head with lines like
<people can't understand each other, also I'm the temporary bad guy that will be converted with the power of friendship
>no! people can understand each other if they just talk!
The rules were inconsistent regarding the superb songs, with the first shown use of it resulting in the user fucking disintegrating. The second use resulted in the user bleeding everywhere and barely being saved through surgery. Past that, people can perform them without any negative effects at all. The entire show looked really bad, with almost every shot being borderline QUALITY. The songs aren't even particularly good, a rather big flaw in a show where songs are a major focus. The show had almost nothing going for it aside from Chris being hot as fuck. Am I right in assuming that she single-handedly made the entire franchise popular, or did it somehow get popular despite being a cliché storm?
I'll give it one thing, the dance scenes were actually animated and not CGI. Granted, it looked like shit because of the QUALITY, but it's the principle of the matter. The dance scene at the beginning of the second season looked a lot better, since it seems to have a much higher budget in general.

>symphogear only got a s2 because of chris
maybe
>symphogear is all the worst parts of shounen
granted, but it's almost a parody of shounen since it takes each of the defining features of shounen and pushes them to absurdity. also the plot is ridiculous and silly.
<fine confronts them one last time and attacks with her whip thing
<it goes past them
<haha u miss noob :^)
<grabs the moon and pulls it out of orbit into a trajectory which collides with earth
>symphogear's songs were shit
well that's just your opinion, man

Only saw the first season but like this guy >>102449 also had the same problems with the show thinking about giving season 2 a shot though just because this season of anime is pretty slow.

Girls doing battle shonen without a grim twist dominating the entire series is refreshing. Madoka and its rip-offs has gotten everyone sick of girls crying about the actual consequences of fighting for your life on a regular basis, but while Symphogear has consequences, it doesn't wallow in despair like those shows do. It's often compared to tokusatsu for that reason.

That song isn't even in the first season. I sure would have remembered it, because some loli singing about genocide was part of what made me pick the series up in the first place.

It looks a lot better. Unfortunately it suffers from a lot of the other flaws S1 had, like the constant bullshit about power of friendship. The girl whose twintails turn into super skinny yet very long mecha arms that throw magical buzzsaws stands out as ridiculous even in a show where everyone has superpowers. There is some new eye candy in the form of the aforementioned twintails girl and her companion, so Chris is no longer alone in carrying the show on her sexiness. It's really silly how the power of friendship dispenser main character gets PTSD and completely shuts down because someone tells her that she doesn't know what suffering is. I did wish for that aspect to be toned down (though it's obviously only temporarily) but this wasn't the the solution.
>>102461
It did wallow in despair around the middle though, when she was trying to balance friendships and her secret superhero identity. That wasn't much better. I mean, I don't want everything to be about despair, but when the main character won't shut the fuck about how people just need to talk to solve all conflicts, it just gets annoying. There are a whole lot of conflicts that can't be solved just by talking. Chris certainly failed that speech check when she was telling that terrorist or whatever not to rape her when she was a loli :^)
You don't need to have a show about despair and suffering just because you don't beat the audience over the head with the power of friendship. Like almost all storytelling aspects, power of friendship can work when done right. Symphogear didn't and it just felt annoying.
On an unrelated note, I liked that scene where red man brought food to Chris, simply because he did the obvious thing by testing it first to show that it wasn't laced with something. They didn't spell it out, nor did they pull some stupid nonsense like "I'll just blindly trust you because you probably have nothing to gain from tricking me". It was simple, effective storytelling that didn't insult the viewer's intelligence. I like that kind of thing. For some reason, scenes where a character takes food from the enemy always get handled terribly.

Like I said earlier, Symphogear does have consequences, and throughout the seasons the show varies in its ability to address them well (Hibiki in particular gets handled badly). But instead of deciding that everything should be about how much life sucks, it focuses on how the protagonists conquer those problems.
>There are a whole lot of conflicts that can't be solved just by talking.
Of course there are conflicts that can't be solved just by talking, and sure enough, they end up fighting enemies a whole lot because the series has no problems showing that Hibiki is too idealistic and not always right. Her attitude grates on other characters (Chris gets sick of it often), but everyone eventually finds a way to focus on kicking ass and winning. Watching them all deal with each other is a part of the team dynamic.

Don't think it was ever finished. The story I read goes, the guy was making the greatest art in human history when the 'too sexy shut it down' order came from the production committee. So he had to scrap all his work and start over, but with the same deadline. So what aired was the less sexy rushed version.
The talent on display is astounding Surely he kept what had been done, but we'll never see it. There was also something about 10 seconds being 'unfit' to air, but can't tell if that means too sexy or just that it wasn't finished in time. We might see those 10 seconds in the BD.

3 has a really strong main plot but kinda whiffs on the side/character plots, still worth watching but you might get a bit annoyed at how much attention some things get.
4 is just more symphogear generally, not much comes to mind about it.Adam's cool I guess.
Both seasons also go in hard on background alchemical lore(Symphogear is stupidly good at this for some reason) so if you like that shit you might enjoy it more if you study up a bit beforehand.
Though one thing to keep in mind for the alchemical stuff is that Elfnein has the taught wrong as a joke thing from Kung Pow going on so just ignore most things she says.
