 No.113360

A thread to recommend anime.

Recommendations should have the titles in underlined greentext with their synopsis under them.

>Air Gear

A tough punk with a futuristic pair of skates takes on other punks that also have futuristic skates.

>Samurai Champloo

A cute girl wants to find her father and goes on a quest with two samurai that want to kill each other. The entire soundtrack is done by Nujabes, with the intro theme (battlecry) being Nujabes's collaboration with rapper Shing02 and the outro theme (shiki no uta) being Nujabes's collaboration with japanese singer MINMI.

>Rave Master

A guy with a large sword, a gun toting big tittied girl and a carrot nosed dog fight the darkness with the power of raves.

>Michiko & Hatchin

In a country that is an allusion to Brazil, a woman tries to find her ex-lover and takes a girl she finds who happens to be that lover's abandoned daughter with her.

>Cowboy Bebop

You all probably seen this.

But for those that haven't, I recommend if you like a story about future space bounty hunters.

>Outlaw Star

It's about people with dreams looking for a lost treasure in space.

>Tenchi Universe

If you like the Tenchi Muyo OVAs, you may like this iteration.

It's about a half alien kid that discovers his alien heritage and gets a harem of alien girls while having to fight the antagonist from his dead mom's home world.

>Rurouni Kenshin

It's about a samurai known as a manslayer who wants to put his past behind him and gets a reverse bladed sword that doesn't kill.

>Afro Samurai

In a feudal yet futuristic Japan, a kid witnessed his father getting murdered and grows up as a great samurai to avenge his death.

>Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann

In the distant future where the tyrant spiral king forced humanity to live underground, a boy finds a drill shaped key that will change the destiny of all mankind.

<Air Gear

Strongly disagree. The anime is Toei Trash, the manga itself is a much more honest attempt

WIKIPEDIA SUMMARIES ARE NOT A RECOMMENDATION

I recommend Glasslip as it has some interesting characters, dialogue and motivations. It's got a decent pace, isn't an effortless ad for a generic manga, tells a complete story, has some brilliant foreshadowing and, after having finished it twice, I can safely say the second time around is just as much fun as the first. I also see it as a spiritual sequel to the studio's strengths. I saw growth in the studio as a whole. The OP is possibly unskippable. The ED has cocks in it which may or may not be a reference to one of their older works. And is extremely skippable. The series as a whole got this mature vibe to it. Not sure how to describe it without coming of as pretentious. I fucking love Glasslip and which more people would actually be tempted to view and discuss it.

From the very first episode. Not every anime has flashy battles in space and mustache-twirling villains.

Is there an anime like gungrave or a nice 90s anime that can get my mind off of gungrave?

That was an anime with an amazing mafia first half like everyone said but there is the whole kenshiro syndrome in the second half where they always reflect fondly on the friends who have become irredeemable killers; And they were already gangsters in the first place so doing that is even weaker in their point.

>Space Battleship Yamato (1974)

Naval battles in space with a 60s space opera vibe, no giant robots.

>Nerima Daikon Brothers

The Blues Brothers meets Excel Saga.

>Area 88 (2006)

An heir to the throne of a generic Middle Eastern/Northern African nation engaged in a civil war commands a mercenary air force where members must carryout their 3 year contract or pay $1.5 million USD to buy their way out. The protagonist is young Japanese pilot who was tricked by his dick of a friend to sign up so he could go back home and cuck him.

>Maison Ikkoku

Not the best work from Rumiko Takahashi, it's pretty much Love Hina before Love Hina.

Is there an anime about time travel where the plot gets increasingly convoluted as the protagonists edit history more and more until it's impossible what to know exactly what's going on at any given moment by the end? I watched Steins;Gate the other day and kept thinking how safe the writers were playing with the mechanics of time travel especially when the main character starts reverting all the major plot developments around the halfway point. It didn't feel like they were giving the story the room to be the absolute clusterfuck it could have been.

Anime no. You'll have better luck with VNs. But even so I feel like in a lot of stories revealing it has a time travel element would just ruin the surprise.

Here is some hidden gems for anime.

>Gun X Sword

A man that is seeking revenge against a guy named The Claw, it is a story driven mecha style story that is more or less unique for its time especially character designs. Also the music is very awesome. Its a show where you can turn your mind off and enjoy the animation for what it is.

>Gunbuster 4 OVA series

A story about a girl who loses her father who was a captain and is not as talented, but has to overcome the doubts of her peers and rise above the expectations by being able to pilot the mech robot. The show features Hideki Anno and i very much like how it is character driven, and it feels very much less about the mechs and more about the characters that make up the world itself.

>Azumanga Daioh

Yes i know many people who are older know of this, but if one ever imagined where all the lol random humor from the internet came from it is best to watch this. It feels at first like a random anime and nothing happens, but after a few episodes you find there is a story narrative that keeps going despite the numerous gags within it. It also was heartfelt and kind of reminded me of why Anime may not be as good today as it was long ago.

>Speed Grapher

While some may criticize and drop it for the whole reason of "being edgy" i am certain not many understood the deeper plot within the anime itself. It has absolutely unique character designs and the music is absolutely fucking awesome it fits and it is catchy when played. There is a lot of twists and turns trying to find out what goes on in the city and behind the scenes of government and the connection a certain character plays within it. It is still underrated and not many know how good of a story-line it is with it's narrative that pays off at the end.

>Ergo Proxy

This is an anime that is for those who like philosophy, violence, deeper narratives, story driven and very intricate details of symbolism. I liked the fact it delved into Nietzsche and a few other ideas. The plot is a tiny bit wonky at the end it still fulfills its grand purpose of keeping you entertained and wondering what happens next.

>Nekojiru-sou

Nothing much to say except its a very surrealistic and experimental film and it is short but a great watch if you like abstract yet weird anime.

>Paranoia Agent

If you like things like Serial Experiments Lain, you will enjoy this, i liked the whole mystery aspect but also the symbolism and imagery of each episode trying to piece it together despite it being abstract and not knowing what it fully entailed until the end.

>Bakuman

This is by the same people that wrote Death;Note, I really liked this series even though it may sound plain about two friends trying to become manga artists and live out the dream there is drama that feels very well written and also talks about the manga industry and how it works within as well. I would recommend it only because there is not many that go over the subject of drama and manga itself. There is so much to it, and i thought i would not like it, but was hooked a few episodes in.

Also i forgot to mention this about Gunbuster, do not assume Gunbuster 2 is the same as Gunbuster 1. Gunbuster 2 is a different universe and based on Japanese Visual Novels that continued the series in an alternative universe.
