i've done quite a fair share of drugs, high doses of psychedelics and dissociatives etc.
actually i have gained some pretty good insight into how certain drugs work. in fact i'm fairly certain, and this is as far as i can tell a unique thought, of how particularly LSD and mushrooms actually work. like why you see patterns and colors and sort and so on, and why you feel the way you feel etc. I won't go into that now.
Is it real? Yes it is real to an extent. The spiritual world is the world of concepts. We actually all operate on concepts, we see things and then translate them to concepts in our mind and that's how we interact with the world. This is the same (to an extent) of Plato's theory of forms. So, when you disassociate, it is similar to being purely in the spiritual / conceptual plane. Same thing happens with dreaming. It's really not that different from dreaming, except it's not natural and you don't have control. The main issue with all this stuff is that you are extremely susceptible to demonic influences and most of what you experience there is nonsense. Demons love to lie. Now the thing is that most people aren't really sure what angels and demons are. They're basically like computer programs, they have no body, they are just like programs operating on this conceptual plane. They can however insert things into your "computer", like pop up windows and such. That's how they communicate with us (at least to an extent). When you're going to sleep or something and you get some messed up image in your head, it could very well be a demon. The more disassociated you are from the conscious world, the easier it is to interact with spiritual entities. When you are sleeping and dreaming you're in the spiritual / conceptual plane. This is why even God communicates to many people in their dreams. States of ecstacy are the same as disassociation, they are caught up in the spiritual world, except they are communicating with God, and not just roaming around the spiritual realm having demons mind rape them.
All these psychedelic type drugs are the worst kind of drugs though for anyone to try. If you do it, you do it, I mean it's like fornicating or something, i'd recommend not doing it either, but like St. Augustine, sometimes your experience of sin (just like mine) can help people. But actually i'd compare psychs to like experimenting with being a tranny, and stuff like alcohol, coke, meth, opiates etc to be like fornication. Sure some people have an addictive personality or addictive traits, and if you push anything too far you can get messed up (especially stimulant paralysis), but seriously the whole psych stuff really can mess your head up to know end, especially if you don't have a strong mind, and you buy into the nonsense that you experience.
I know long term psych users and long term other addicts, and almost everyone knows that their coke habit is bad and isn't healthy, just like most drinkers or smokers know they should cut down. Psychs are different, people believe that it's enlightening them and they're like a genius and shit and they are totally wacked out and kooky and really they lose their mind. They're convinced they are healthy and experiencing new realities and are on the point of a breakthrough and all this other nonsense. Weed is a light psych, on very high doses of weed you have similar effects. And oh look what other users of a drug say the same nonsense that it's totally fine and you should be using this drug all the time and there's almost never too much etc, weed smokers.
No drinker who even if they're an alcoholic, thinks that it's fine to be drinking all day. They know they're winnie the pooh up and that's that. That's why I say in many senses it's safer, you dont drink to think you're some enlightened being experiencing the new realities. You just want to get a kick, some pleasure, just simple.
Anyways I wouldn't recommend doing any hard drug really, but having seen a lot of the psych stuff, I can tell you, don't do them if you haven't. Now to answer your question honestly, is there some benefit to it? Well there is in the same way there's a benefit to an ex tranny telling people that trannyism is BS, and they may have insights into the mind of being a tranny, but it doesn't mean you should try being a tranny for a while too to get this knowledge.
Although I do believe I do have some insights into how the mind works and after having not done anything for quite a while, I do think I have some actually interesting thoughts (which go strongly with religion/Christianity), I wouldn't recommend anyone to do it to gain any insight. I know many people who've done it too who don't have a coherent thought in their head, and I think I was only allowed to have some knowledge by the Grace of God.
tl;dr those drugs are shit don't do them
