also you should understand, vestments as we have them now are somewhat different than they used to be. during ottoman rule, they mandated that christian monks and clergy be required to wear normal ottoman-era clothing rather than vest as they had done prior. So some of the headwear like kalimavkia and exorassa and stuff, they stuck from that time. The ottomans forbade christians from wearing certain colors, and we were usually required to wear blue or black.
To that extent, the way Christian clergy dress now is an aftereffect of forced humility/humiliation under the ottomans, because they wanted glorious garments to be reserved for islamic clergy only, so Christians could never be visually mistaken for muslims.
