The funny thing is I came to the same conclusion when I tried archery a few years ago. When ever I tried to aim I could never hit the target no matter how steady I aimed and fired. But then when I just pulled the fucking thing back and let go, I was surprised at how accurate it was. 
Its almost like this is some kind of old instinct from the hunter-gatherer era and trying to override it with conscious effort pales in comparison.
