1) to be alive
2) in the case of limited racial groups: for the integrity and unity of the group to be effective

I think my people, the italians, will continue to exist until the end of the world (for "end of the world" I mean the end of the universe), since the end of the world is not in sight I'm going to assume the end will come in some trillions years, but also since it's not given to us humans to know when the end will come I'm also going to be ready anytime to welcome the end if it may come sooner than expected, my italian people may then continue to exist even after the end of the universe, depends what are God's plans.
As long as my italian people exist humanity will continue to exist too. So the answer is the same for the two questions, humanity and my people will continue to exist for, give and take, some trillion years.
And as long as I live I'm going to personally remove any obstacle blocking the road of my people towards the future.

Humanity will go on but won't reach the stars. I suspect things will continue to get worse and worse for most average people, AI will be invasive and used by governments and corporations to make life more miserable for everyone else, demographic crisis will inevitably emerge as too many have already given up hope for the future and will "live it up then die" (my current attitude too btw), not to mention the proliferation of micro-plastics in all the oceans, the harmful pesticides and GMOs destroying the quality of our soil, more wars over natural resources and land dispute causing more pollution and devastation, maybe eventually a nuclear war or some related catastrophe that causes a global radiation spike that negatively impacts physical and mental health for dozens of future generations. I really don't expect anything good and honestly I know I won't be alive in the next 20 years due to my alcoholism, so yah, fuck it all.
