This is a Gen X (and early Millennial) meme, and it’s really sad. They were so mind broken in the 1990’s and early 2000’s that they simply cannot accept a change back to normalcy, ever. They’re permanently stuck in early adulthood.
The late 90’s saw Jnco (and Kickwear, and a dozen other brands) take off. Those were the ridiculously large jeans everyone knows. I was in high school, and I was all-in on that dumb ass fashion trend. It was fun and I’m glad I did it. It was actually a very brief period when they were popular. Jnco, the company synonymous with this style of jeans, was only in style for a few years.
By the early 2000’s, those were out. But everything was “baggy.” Rather than being something unique, it just looked sloppy. The word “relaxed” was tossed around a lot.
By the time normal fitting jeans had made a comeback, they were being labeled as slim or skinny because everything had been baggy for a solid decade. Even prior to Jnco, jeans were being worn looser.
Now I see men (grown fucking men in their god damn 40’s) wearing sloppy, loose fitting jeans. It looks like absolute shit and their an embarrassment. I can understand rallying against insanely skinny jeans, but those fell out of fashion years ago.

Fuck fashion or what's "in", I always wear baggy cargo shorts and pants. Skinny shorts and pants should be for women showing off their buttocks and legs imo…. However I will say that greaser style with a leather jacket does go well with skinny jeans so the 50s style was a great look and THE exception (if you can still pull that off today, that's totally cool).
