Protestors call for action on anti-Semitism
Follows two recent attacks across Australia
Thousands of protestors across the nation have called on Prime Minister Anthony Albanese for more action to combat anti-Semitism in Australia.
More than 400 people, many brandishing the Star of David and placards, gathered at Martin Place, in Sydney's CBD, for the 'Enough is Enough' protest.
Attendees heard from a number of speakers at the protest urging Mr Albanese to take on a zero-tolerance approach to anti-Semitic attacks across Australia.
Signs being held by protestors read: 'Albo the world is watching' and 'stop the hate mate' while one replaced 'antisemite' on the iconic Vegemite logo.
Another sign labelled Foreign Affairs minister Penny Wong, 'Penny Wrong', after her support of a UN motion for a pathway to Palestinian statehood.
The protestors heard from Jewish leaders and politicians who declared recent anti-Semitic attacks had brought Australia was to a 'tipping point'.
'Terrorism lives among us and can even impact peaceful societies like ours here in Australia,' Zionist Council of NSW's former director of creative events and operations Hagit Ashual said.
The event follows two incidents across Australia and was held at the scene of the Lindt Cafe siege which brought Sydney to a halt 10 years earlier.

President Trump's former golf caddy — a man with zero political experience — has, against all odds, risen to a top position in the West Wing.
Dan Scavino, who is an assistant to the president and director of social media, is the longest-tenured Trump employee in the White House, noted a sprawling profile of the man published by The New York Times Magazine on Monday. He is the architect behind many of the president's tweets, often tapping out 280 characters while Trump dictates, and previously served as an unofficial photographer during the campaign. Now that Hope Hicks, the former White House communications director, has left the administration, Scavino is one of the last "original" Trump team members and is closer with the president than ever, the Times Magazine reports. Scavino even took over Hicks' office after she departed at the end of March, just down the hall from the Oval Office.
Scavino was instrumental in framing Trump's campaign as "a movement," former chief strategist Stephen Bannon told the magazine. "He has his hands on the Pepes," Bannon said of Scavino, referring to the alt-right mascot "Pepe the Frog." Scavino has remained close with Trump due to his understanding of how to play to the president's base, officials told the Times Magazine, and often acts as a yes-man to placate Trump's ego.

Scavino is also the only aide allowed access to Trump's treasured Twitter account, and one source said that Trump and Scavino craft his tweets together, splitting the work 50-50. Because of how much Trump values his Twitter presence, sources say, Scavino's importance is unlikely to diminish, especially given his undying faithfulness to the president.
Scavino declined to be interviewed for the story. As a friend of Scavino's told the magazine: "Golf is a sport of the least mistakes. … That's how someone like Dan might float to the top — by not doing anything wrong.

Schiff doesn’t want a preemptive pardon from Biden
Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) said on Sunday he doesn’t want a preemptive pardon from President Biden for his work on the Jan. 6 select committee.
In an interview on ABC News’s “This Week,” anchor George Stephanopoulos asked Schiff whether he thinks President-elect Trump’s administration will not actually prosecute members of the Jan. 6 select committee, as he has threatened to do.
“I don’t know what the Trump administration will do, but it’s for a couple of reasons,” Schiff said about why he doesn’t want a preemptive pardon.
“First, those of us on the committee are very proud of the work we did. We were doing vital quintessential oversight of a violent attack on the Capitol,” Schiff said. “So I think it’s unnecessary.”
“But second, the precedent of giving blanket pardons, preemptive blanket pardons on the way out of an administration, I think is a precedent we don’t want to set,” he added.

“I communicated with her daughter, Christine, and I understand that she’s recovering from the surgery well,” Schiff said on ABC News’s “This Week,” when asked about his close ally’s condition.
“So, our thoughts are going out to her. She’s an amazing person and, as strong and as tough as she is, I know she’ll be back on her feet soon.”
Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) said Kash Patel, President-elect Trump’s pick to lead the FBI, is a “conspiracy theorist” who is “not qualified” for the post.
“Well, let me just say, with respect to some of the nominees like Kash Patel, this is someone in my view who’s not qualified to be FBI director and someone who claimed, for example, that he wanted to shut down FBI headquarters early in his tenure and open a museum to the deep state. So, this is a conspiracy theorist,” Schiff said on ABC News’s “This Week.”
“It’s also someone I think who demonstrated, sadly, a principle of the first Trump administration and that is you rise to the level of your sycophancy. And the bigger the sycophant, the higher you rise. He’s risen pretty high but that’s not what we’re looking for.”

Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) predicts that Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio), who is the Vice President-elect, will be the Republican Party’s 2028 presidential nominee.
Romney joined CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday for his Congressional exit interview,where host Jake Tapper asked him about a post-Trump Republican Party.
“Oh, MAGA is the Republican Party, and Donald Trump is the Republican Party today,” Romney said.
“And if you were to ask me who the nominee will be in 2028,it’ll be JD Vance,” he continued.
Romney: ‘I don’t know’ how Democratic Party recovers
Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) said he isn’t sure how the Democratic Partyrecovers from its 2024 election losses.
In an interview with CNN Sunday, Romneysaid “MAGA is the Republican Party” and argued that the Democratic Party is “in trouble.”
“I don’t know how they recover,” he said. “I’m not going to tell them what to do because I wouldn’t begin to have the capacity to do so.But, they’ve lost their base.”
Romney noted that Democrats lost union voters, working class voters and people who took issue with several “woke” points of messaging across the campaign.
“The Democratic Party is seen, not as rich people, but as college professors and woke scolds, and that’s not an attractive feature,” he said.
‘I don’t think history will remember Mitt Romney’
Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) joined CNN’s “State of the Union” Sunday for his Congressional exit interview, noting that he thinks his political legacy will be a “footnote” in the history books.
Romney, 77, was asked by host Jake Tapper about how he wants to be remembered for his time serving the country.

Legendary comedian Chris Rock hosted Saturday Night Live last night and unsurprisingly turned in a memorable performance.
This was his first time hosting the show since 2020. He previously served as a cast member between 1990 and 1993.
While, as one would expect, he took some shots at President Trump and other conservatives, his most notable hits came against his fellow liberals—especially Wild Bill Clinton.
Sure enough, Rock opened the partisan part of his monologue by poking fun at himself and Kamala Harris.
“There’s a lot going on in the news, my God, it’s so crazy out there,” Rock stated. “Kamala, Diddy, Jake Paul beating Mike Tyson. What the h*ll?”
Rock then made some astute observations about Trump before taking a sarcastic swipe at him.
“Trump had a good year, man,” Rock said. “Trump survived an assassination attempt. Won the presidency again by winning the popular vote. He was just named ‘Time’ Man of the Year. You know?”
“It could happen to a nicer guy,” he snarked.
But then he turned his fire and hilariously roasted the left for their panic over Trump’s historic victory.
“A lot of people are scared. Like, ‘Oh, my God, he’s going to be so undignified.’ When I say a lot of people, I’m talking about the nine New Yorkers that didn’t vote for him, okay?” Rock said.
The comedian then turned to Clinton, and what he said next completely set the internet ablaze.
“Come on, man, this is not the most dignified job in the world. We’ve had presidents show up to the inauguration with pregnant slaves, okay? And I’m just talking about Bill Clinton,” Rock quipped.
Ouch!
Rock also joked about how the president-elect was going to implement mass deportations of illegal aliens while working with Elon Musk, who he correctly pointed out is both the wealthiest African-American and person in the world.
“That’s right, he is African American,” Rock said. “Oh, he’s serious. Trump is not playing. He’s got Elon. They’re going to put them in a rocket ship–call it ‘SpaceMex,”
Rock concluded his speech by talking about how Joe Biden corruptly pardoned his son, Hunter.
‘I gotta hand it to Joe, he don’t move as fast as he used to, he don’t talk as fast as he used to,’ Rock said, ‘but that middle finger still works,’ he laughed, referring to the shocking pardon.
Conservatives certainly won’t like all of what Rock had to say. But, notably, SNL is again poking fun at liberals, and the funniest hits were against them.

During the meeting, Murkowski seemed rattled by the prospect of being held accountable for her obstructionist actions.
“I think it’s going to be hard, quite honestly,” Murkowski lamented last Thursday’s event.
“I think it’s going to be hard in these next four years because you have an administration coming in that has had an opportunity to see how things work, what didn’t work.
“Now we’ve had four years to think about it, and the approach is going to be: everybody toe the line, everybody line up. We got you here. If you want to survive, you—you better be good. Don’t get on Santa’s naughty list here, because we will primary you.
“My friend Joni Ernst, who is probably one of the more conservative, principled Republican leaders in the Senate right now, is being hung out to dry for not being good enough, and you’re going to get primary. Well, what’s this all about? Why are we doing this to ourselves?
“I think we’re getting a little bit of a preview now of what it’s going to mean to be allegiant to party. I don’t think that that’s going to help us as a Republican Party, believe it or not. I think it’s going to energize and charge up the Democrats to say, “All right, the Republicans are going to overreach, they’re going to overreact, and so we’re going to have an opportunity.””

Top aides and people close to Kamala Harris have divided over whether she should head home to run for California governor in 2026— and it all comes down to whether they believe she could win the Democratic nomination for president in an expected competitive primary in 2028.
Some believe a repeat run, after quickly improving her reputationand raising more than $1 billion over her surprise 100-day race, should be hers for the taking. Others worry that in a longer campaign, against some of the other major Democratic contenders who already sat out 2024 in deference first to Joe Biden and then to her, Harris might fizzle out and follow her loss to Donald Trump with the humiliation of being rejected by her own party.
The governor’s race, meanwhile, looks like a lay-up: Harris was elected statewide three times and served 10 years combined as state attorney general and US senator, and when asked by CNN, several major candidates made clear either directly or through aides that they would likely step aside if she got in.
In CNN’s conversation with over a dozen current and former Harris advisers and other top California Democratic players, the only consensus around the vice president is that she likely can’t do both, since that would essentially require launching a presidential campaign soon after being sworn in as governor.
Getting into the governor’s race, top Harris advisers believe, would require making her intentions clear at the latest by the summer of 2025. That means Harris will need to decide very soon after Trump’s inauguration if she will quickly give up on her dream of being president – which she feels got short shrift from the circumstances of this year – and instead go for a job that, while one of the most powerful in American politics, would clearly be a fallback.
Harris would have to think of running for governor as “more of a capstone than a stepping stone,” said one person who has advised her in the past. “If you’re thinking of running for president in 2028, the worst thing you can do is run for governor in 2026.”
Another person close to Harris told CNN that the gamble of skipping the governor’s race is worth the potential payoff.
“Running for governor would be a step down, and it would interfere with her ability to run for president again,” the person said. “I don’t know if she’s going to run for president again, but a shot at running for president again is worth giving up running for governor.”
‘Not going quietly into the night’
Several people who have spoken with the vice president directly told CNN that she remains undecided herself, unsure how to channel feelings she has, for now, worked into stock lines like “you haven’t seen the last of me,” and “I’m not going quietly into the night” repeated to supporters who ask her what’s next.
More than one person has noticed she has not shut down the conversation when the topic of running for governor has come up.
In the meantime, Harris has kept a noticeably low profile, appearing at just a handful of public events since her concession speech, while her thank-you phone calls with donors and other supporters have often gone long, with tears on both ends, according to people familiar with the calls. She did host many staff from her office and from her campaign for a holiday party at the Naval Observatory this past Wednesday, and a smaller group of close friends and supporters for a black tie dinner there on Friday night.

Democrats are not planning an all-hands resistance to President-elect Trump.
At least not in 2016 style, when lawmakers, activists, volunteers and millions of angry voters mounted a party-wide effort to curb his newfound influence in Washington.
Where so much was once unprecedented, Trump is now familiar. Ahead of January 2025,the lack of a unified Democratic rebuttal to his second term is the latest sign that the party’s just beginning to soul search, trying to figure out what went wrong before banding together to bash the GOP.
“The one thingwe seem to know is the strategy of being an anti-Trump party didn’t workany better than when we became a primarily anti-Bush party,” said Max Burns, a Democratic commentator. “In that transformation, we seem to have become unclear about what our actual pro-Democrat message is.”
“It’s more like Republicans post-1960 than anything,” he said, “where the loss led to a real round of questioning about what our values are and what our strategy is.”
On the one hand, the month-and-a-half postelection period can seem like decades, as D.C.’s political class awaits the unpredictable transition of power.On the other, it’s just a blip in what many expect to be a long undertaking to redefine the Democratic Party beyond Trump’s shadow.
As voters who found sympathies with Trump inch closer toward a home with the GOP, liberals and moderates are in the messy process of figuring out their ideals, how to unite around them and how to message everything to the rest of the country. Results showed it’s not motivating enough to be against the MAGA president-elect, challenging a doctrine party loyalists have clung to over the past eight years.
While some still insist Trump’s reelection remains an existential threat, those voices have become more muted.Democrats’ “save our democracy” rhetoric, a fear-based approach effective in past cycles, tanked this time, and many want a new way of operating after losing significant power.
The 2017 pomp and circumstance of rage solidarity has also died down. Back then, America’s raw political divisions and fear of the unknown prompted thousands to pour into the streets, protesting what they saw as Trump’s misogyny with a “Women’s March” and similar advocacy uprisings.
“It is clear that fighting back against Trump and MAGA will definitely look different this time than it did in 2017 because the circumstances are different,” said Rahna Epting, executive director of MoveOn PAC.
“But there is energy to organize and push back that we know is there. The key will be understanding that we have to be strategic with how we deploy that energy,” she said.
Indeed,Democrats are slowly unpacking their recent losses with constituencies whom they saw move even further away from their party, questioning if being fully against Trump is the right approach.
“We’re clearly not persuading labor, or Hispanics, or young people the way we used to, because our message is so vague now that it’s hard to grab onto and rally behind,” said Burns. “Voters are angry, and they want populism, and they’ll take a bad version over none at all, so Trump gets to sell his sham populism largely unchallenged.”
Progressives have started to try a new tactic.Some in the Senate and House have expressed a willingness to consider — or, even in some cases, enthusiastically embrace — Trump’s goals and administration picks. It’s different from the tone ahead of his first term, when the sheer shock value of many of his choices burned through any goodwill Democrats may have been willing to offer.
Some on the left are challenging Democrats’ default to reject Republicans just for the sake of party loyalty.
“I think the hypocrisy of opposing an idea you agree with because somebody on the other side also agrees is what is seen as one of the biggest problems with the two-party system right now,” said a former campaign adviser to Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.)

This is the Air Force radiation sniffer plane deploying after North Korea’s nuclear test
The U.S. Air Force will soon deploy a WC-135 Constant Phoenix aircraft to test for radiation near North Korea, part of the U.S. military’s ongoing effort to determine what the country’s provocative nuclear bomb test entailed.
The use of the so-called nuclear “sniffer plane” was confirmed on Tuesday by an official at the Pentagon, speaking on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the operation. The aircraft collects air samples and debris, and is a modified version of a C-135B or EC-135C Boeing airplane. It will determine whether the explosion was actually a hydrogen blast, as North Korea has claimed. That assertion has been viewed with widespread skepticism by nuclear weapons experts.
“We’ll know for sure once the WC-135 gets air samples,” the defense official said.
The Constant Phoenix was commissioned by Army Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower in September 1947, as he gave the Army Air Forces — a precursor of the Air Force — responsibility for detecting atomic explosions worldwide, Air Force officials said. The mission was initially assigned to the WB-29 aircraft, but was swapped over to WB-50 and eventually the WC-135 by 1965.
Air sample missions have been carried out routinely since, with the WC-135 playing a key role in tracking radioactive debris after the disaster at the Chernobyl nuclear plant in the Soviet Union in 1986, according to an Air Force fact sheet. The WC-135 is currently the only aircraft in the service carrying out air-sampling missions, with crews from the 45th Reconnaissance Squadron at Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska typically manning them. Equipment on board is operated by members of the Air Force Technical Applications Center.

The WC-135 typically flies directly through a potential radioactive plume, with protection from radioactivity incorporated into the plane so that airmen on board do not need to wear hazardous materials suits, said Susan Romano, a spokeswoman at Offutt Air Force Base for the testing center. She would not confirm the deployment of the WC-135, citing Air Force policy, but said that the testing center has recorded underground seismic activity in the area of where North Korea claimed the explosion occurred.

Israel To Deploy Remote Automated Weapons In West Bank For First Time
The Israeli military is preparing to deploy remotely controlled automated weapons across occupied West Bank checkpoints to target Palestinians, according to a report by the Israeli Army Radio on Sunday.
The system, named "Roeh-Yoreh" ("See-Fires"), is an advanced weaponry structure developed by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems. It includes a tower with sophisticated surveillance equipment and a remote-controlled lethal fire mechanism.
The Israeli military plans to deploy dozens of Roeh-Yoreh systems in strategic locations across the West Bank, including settlement entrances and key control points, according to the report.
The goal, it added, was to prevent armed attacks and infiltrations into illegal Israeli settlements. The manufacturing of these systems for the West Bank has already begun.
