The bloc’s foreign policy chief plans to “support Ukraine right now more than ever” while Moscow and Washington negotiate

Washington has fallen for “Russia’s narrative,” EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said on Monday. The accusation comes amid recent efforts by Washington and Moscow to begin resolving the conflict.

“If [we] look at the messages that come from the US, then it is clear that the Russian narrative is there, very strongly represented,”Kallas told journalists in Brussels, stressing that the bloc is planning to “support Ukraine right now more than ever.” (Only a highly conflicted and compromised person would come to that conclusion. Insinuating Trump is compromised by Russia is weak and abjectly stupid)

Kallas took office in Brussels as the EU’s high representative for foreign affairs and security policy, replacing Spain’s Josep Borrell in December last year.

A pronounced foreign policy hawk who, while she was Estonian prime minister demanded in 2023 that “all business with Russia must stop,”Kallas faced resignation calls over revelations her husband held a 25% stake in a (Russian) logistics company that provides services in the sanction-hit nation.

Since the Ukraine conflict escalated in February 2022, both the EU and the US have implemented multiple rounds of sanctions in an effort to isolate Russia. The penalties included disconnecting the country from the Western financial system, suspending nearly all trade and energy ties, and freezing Moscow’s foreign reserves—a measure condemned as “theft” by the Kremlin.

On Monday, the EU adopted its 16th package of Ukraine-related restrictions, marking the anniversary of the launch of the Russian military operation against Kiev’s forces in February 2022.

However, shortly after assuming office in January US President Donald Trump pivoted Washington’s stance on Ukraine. Trump recently claimed that Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky is responsible for the conflict’s escalation, and said that his presence at Washington’s meetings with Russia is unnecessary.

Meanwhile, media reports emerged that US envoys to theG7 and the UN have pushed for more cautious language in official statements, suggesting the use of “Ukraine conflict” instead of “Russia’s war of aggression.”

The first meeting of Russian and US officials in three years occurred last week in the Saudi capital of Riyadh. The talks have ignited a backlash within the EU with member states accusing the White House of reopening dialogue with Kremlin without prior consultation and sidelining Brussels from the negotiations.

EU’s chief diplomat backs Zelensky’s refusal to hold elections

Although the Ukrainian leader’s term ended last May, Kaja Kallas says there is “no need” for a vote while the conflict continues

TheEU's top diplomatKaja Kallas has announced that she supports Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky’s refusal to hold a presidential election.

Although Zelensky’s five-year presidential term expired in May 2024, no new elections have been held, with Zelensky claiming that it is “not the right time,” and citing martial law. Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly said that he no longer considers Zelensky a legitimate head of state.

Speaking on Monday ahead of a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels,Kallas said that “there is no need to hold elections” during wartime.(That’s how EU tells you they are all support dictators and are dictators. Where did she learn diplomacy?)

She noted the public feud last week when the US president claimed that Zelensky is “a dictator without elections” and accused him of funneling US aid into a “war that couldn’t be won.” Trump also claimed last week that Zelensky’s approval rating was at 4% and suggested that an election should be called.

“He refuses to have elections. He’s low in the real Ukrainian polls. How can you be high with every city being demolished?” Trump said, adding that in the meantime, the US is “successfully negotiating an end to the war with Russia.”

Zelensky responded by claiming that Trump is “living in a disinformation space” created by Moscow.

In tune with Zelensky,Kallas declared that “it’s clear that the Russian narrative is very strongly represented” in Trump’s statement. (That’s her best diplomacy)

She stressed thatfor any peace deal to be effective, it would need to involve the Europeans and the Ukrainians. (No one said they wouldn’t)

She was referring to recent high-level US-Russian talks in Saudi Arabia, which frustrated the EU. Member states criticized Washington for sidelining Brussels and Kiev during the negotiations.

“You can discuss whatever you want with Putin, but if it comes to Ukraine and Europe, then Ukraine and Europe also have to agree to this deal,” Kallas told journalists.

Last week, reports suggested that theEU is preparing a military aid package worth at least $6.2 billion for Ukraine. The package is expected to include 1.5 million artillery shells and air defense systems – one of the bloc’s largest military aid commitments since the escalation of the conflict in 2022.

Russia considers Zelensky “illegitimate” and recognizes only the Ukrainian parliament and its speaker. Russian officials have warned that any treaties he signs could be challenged and questioned.

Andrzej Duda’s chief of staff has insisted there was no shame in waiting for “our greatest ally”

The office of Polish President Andrzej Duda has rebuffed criticism of his meeting with US President Donald Trump, which detractors argue was far shorter than anticipated and followed an excessively long wait.

Polish media reported Duda had expected at least an hour with Trump, having flown across the Atlantic to attend the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Maryland on Saturday.

Bloomberg reportedthe officials met for ten minutes while Reuters noted that a “short” meeting had taken place, after Trump arrived late. (How much was Bloomberg paid for this propaganda?)

On Monday, Marcin Mastalerek, Duda’s chief of staff who accompanied him to the US, dismissed the criticism, saying the assessments of “so-called Twitter experts” lacked a basis in reality.

”The meeting didn’t conclude in 10 minutes, nor was it intended to last an hour,”he told Radio ZET, attributing the negative commentary to “political jealousy” from those who resent the strong rapport between Duda and Trump.

He furtherridiculed the idea that waiting for “the president of the greatest power, our greatest ally” could be seen as humiliating.

Duda was the first European leader to meet Trump in personafter the latter’s inauguration for a second term last month. Speaking to reporters during his visit, Duda expressed confidence that “there is no concern about a decrease in US presence in Poland” and urged Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky to pursue “calm and constructive cooperation” with Trump.

Poland has been one of Ukraine’s staunchest supporters in the conflict with Russia, a policy that the pro-EU liberal government of Prime Minister Donald Tusk has continued following a 2023 election victory over Duda’s allies from the conservative Law and Justice (PiS) party.

In stark contrast, Trump’s stance on Ukraine diverges significantly from that of his predecessor, Joe Biden. Trump advocates for a swift resolution to hostilities and has openly criticized Zelensky’s policies, including his refusal to hold elections. Washington is also seeking to recoup taxpayer dollars spent on supporting Ukraine by negotiating a minerals deal, which the Zelensky government has yet to finalize.

Amid growing tensions, Trump has labeled Zelensky a “dictator without elections,” warning that his opportunity to benefit from US goodwill is rapidly diminishing. In response, Zelensky has accused Trump of living within a Russian “disinformation bubble.”

The Panama Canal is one of the most strategically vital waterways in the world. An engineering marvel that transformed global commerce, this maritime shortcut solidified the U.S.' geopolitical power and drastically reduced the time needed to cross between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.

Now, President Donald Trump claims the crucial pathway is in Chinese hands, and his threat to "take it back" has left it at the crux of a high-stakes international standoff.

But does China really control a structure once built by the U.S. itself?

Fox News national correspondent Griff Jenkins headed south to find out in the latest Fox Nation special, "Showdown at the Panama Canal."

Standing in front of a massive cargo ship and blue waters at his back, Jenkins ventured into the history and geopolitical importance of the canal.

"This ship was in the Atlantic this morning, transiting to the Pacific. It will take them about eight hours," he explained.

As explored in the special, without the canal, the trip would take weeks — upwards of 25 to 26 days — and would require a trip around South America.

"The Panama Canal lets them cut through Central America, knocking between 8,000 and 10,000 miles off the trip and saving millions of dollars in fuel and other costs," Jenkins added.

But the strategic resource goes beyond sending containers and products globally. It's also a crucial military asset, enabling warships to quickly pass through in times of crisis, when they can't afford extra weeks of travel.

The dream conjured up by President Teddy Roosevelt was ultimately achieved through a treaty signed between the U.S. and freshly-independent Panama in 1903.

The canal remained under U.S. control until 1999, when control was ceded to Panama as a byproduct of treaties signed under President Jimmy Carter's tenure two decades prior.

Though now a symbol of Panamanian pride, President Trump has his sights set on the canal, warning of national security threats posed by alleged Chinese control.

Panama's president vowed earlier this month to end a key development deal with China after meeting with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and amid Trump's complaints.

A year ago, if someone had told me that the United States would pressure Ukraine into paying reparations, demand that Russia no longer be called an ‘aggressor’, float the idea of annexing Canada, and chide Western Europe for its lack of democracy –I would have laughed it off.Yet here we are, in February 2025, and what once seemed absurd has become reality.

It is no exaggeration to say that we are witnessing perhaps the most dramatic shift in US foreign policy since the early 20th century. Over a century ago, America entered World War I, laying the foundations for global dominance and the liberal world order. Today, in a dramatic reversal, Washington appears to be dismantling its own creation. The idealistic liberalism that shaped US foreign policy for decades is being replaced by cold, pragmatic realpolitik.

Trump’s America: A radical turn

This abrupt course-correction did not happen overnight. US President Donald Trump has been talking about fundamentally altering America’s role in the world since at least 2015. However, his first term saw more rhetoric than action, leading many to dismiss his words as bluster. Even when his second term began with an aggressive shake-up of the global order, it was unclear whether he was serious or merely testing the waters.

The Munich Security Conference this year provided clarity. After Vice President J.D. Vance’s historic speech, it became evident that the old United States – the one that upheld Western unity and global democracy – was gone. What remains is anew America, one that prioritizes self-interest over ideological commitments.

Prioritizing China, abandoning Europe

For Trump, China is America’s primary adversary. He views Beijing as an existential threat, accusing it of siphoning wealth from the US through trade imbalances and expanding its influence into the Western Hemisphere, long considered America’s untouchable ‘backyard’. To counter this, Washington must refocus its efforts – but excessive entanglements in regions of little value to the US have hampered this pivot.

Trump’s first order of business is reducing Washington’s commitments to Europe. This aligns with his longstanding ‘America First’ doctrine: the US should protect only its own interests and not bankroll European security out of some outdated sense of transatlantic solidarity. The ideological divide between Trump and Western European elites has grown too wide, and he has not forgotten how they mocked him and supported his domestic opponents.

With that in mind,Trump is determined to make Europe shoulder its own security costs. He expects NATO members to contribute their fair share and is not shy about pushing for leadership changes that align more closely with his views. By doing so, he hopes to free the US from what he sees as an unnecessary burden, allowing Washington to concentrate on the real geopolitical contest – its rivalry with China.

Can a lava flow extend into the sky? No, but light from the lava flow can. One effect is something quite unusual a volcanic light pillar. More typically, light pillars are caused by sunlight and so appear as a bright column that extends upward above a rising or setting Sun. Alternatively, other light pillars some quite colorful have been recorded above street and house lights. This light pillar, though, was illuminated by the red light emitted by the glowing magma of an erupting volcano. The volcano is Italy's Mount Etna, and the featured image was captured with a single shot during an early morning in mid-February. Freezing temperatures above the volcano's lava flow created ice-crystals either in the air above the volcano or in condensed water vapor expelled by Mount Etna. These ice crystals mostly flat toward the ground but fluttering - then reflected away light from the volcano's caldera.

NASA supercomputer reveals strange spiral structure at the edge of our solar system

The Oort cloud — the mysterious shell of icy objects at the edge of the solar system — might sport a pair of spiral arms that make it resemble a miniature galaxy, new research suggests.

The exact shape of the Oort cloud and how it is affected by forces beyond our solar system have, so far, remained mysterious.

Now, researchers have developed a new model that suggests the inner structure of the Oort cloud may look like a spiral disk.

They published their findings Feb. 16 on the preprint server arXiv, meaning the work has not been peer-reviewed yet.

The Oort cloud began as the unused remnants of the solar system's giant planets (Jupiter, Neptune, Uranus and Saturn) after their formation 4.6 billion years ago.

Some of these remnants are so large, they could be considered dwarf planets.

As these planets began orbiting the sun, their movements kicked the excess material far beyond Pluto's orbit, where they reside today.

The Oort cloud's inner edge sits roughly 2,000 to 5,000 astronomical units from the sun, and its outer edge is located between 10,000 and 100,000 AU away.

(One AU is approximately 93 million miles, or 150 million kilometers — roughly the average distance from Earth to the sun.)

This means that, even at its current speed of around a million miles (1.6 million kilometers) a day, NASA's Voyager 1 spacecraft won't reach the Oort cloud for 300 years and won't exit it for another 300,000.

This extreme distance means the bodies in the cloud are too small and faint — and moving too slowly — to be directly imaged even by the most powerful telescopes.

Most of our evidence for it comes from long-period comets — "snowballs" of ice and dust punted from the cloud to orbit around the sun by gravitational perturbations.

To better understand what the Oort cloud could look like, the researchers behind the new study used information from the orbits of comets and gravitational forces from within and beyond our solar system to build a model of the Oort cloud's structure.

One key to understanding the shape of the Oort cloud is "galactic tide" — the tugs made by stars, black holes and our galaxy's center that have a crucial influence on the Oort cloud's objects but, for objects closer to the sun, are masked by our star's gravity.

When the scientists ran this model through NASA's Pleiades supercomputer, it spit out a structure for the inner part of the cloud (the most densely populated region, located 1,000 to 10,000 AU from the sun) that resembles the spiral disk of the Milky Way.

According to the model, the arms of this inner Oort cloud stretch 15,000 AU from end to end.

To confirm this structure through observations, researchers will need to track the objects directly or pick out the light reflected from them from all the other background and foreground sources.

Both are incredibly difficult tasks that have yet to have any resources dedicated to them.

But the researchers think that, if we are to understand where comets come from, how our solar system evolved and the cloud's continuing impact on our cosmic neighborhood, it might be a good idea to start looking.

This week, President Donald Trump signed an executive order to cancel the visas of college students who protest in support of Palestine, opening the path to their deportation. A small company called Stellar Defense & Cyber Intelligence is ready to help by deploying AI technology to identify anonymous, masked pro-Palestinian protestors, through a campaign it refers to as "Operation Wrath of Zion."

Stellar is the maker of NesherAI, a bespoke facial-recognition tool which it claims is capable of deanonymizing pro-Palestinian protestors. The name "Nesher" is Hebrew for "eagle," the symbol for both NesherAI and the Terror Watch Agency, the brand under which it operates. Their slogan on social media is, "The Eagle listens, The Eagle watches, The Eagle knows."

Stellar's CEO is "Eliyahu" Hawila, who garnered headlines several years ago when he faced allegations of deceiving the New York ultra-Orthodox Jewish community by posing as a member despite being a Lebanese Muslim-a story he now disputes.

Stellar advertises NesherAI as "an intelligence and mass surveillance project powered by AI, designed to support law enforcement and community security organizations in tracking terrorists, threat actors, and violent criminals." The website also notes that the product is "marketed towards NGOs, activist groups, companies, and universities for profiling individuals with malicious intent, terrorist affiliations and online criminal behavior."

betar is a self-described "right-wing Zionist" youth movement that has made prominent use of the facial recognition tool. Together, they hope to feed the names of pro-Palestinian protestors to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and other law enforcement, according to statements made by both groups.

betar has ties to Menachem Begin, the leader of the Zionist terrorist group Irgun, founder of the Likud party, and former prime minister of Israel. According to its own history, betar's early members "were active instigators of disturbances and violence, frequently bombing Arab civilian areas in response to attacks and waging guerilla [sic] warfare against the British," sometimes referred to as "Jewish fascists."

Hubble Space Telescope Explores Colorful Veil Nebula

The Cygnus Loop is a large donut-shaped nebula located approximately 2,400 light-years away from Earth.

Also known as W78 and Sharpless 103, it is actually an expanding blast wave from a supernova explosion that occurred between 10,000 and 20,000 years ago.

Its name comes from its position in the northern constellation of Cygnus, where it covers an area 36 times larger than the full Moon.

The visual portion of the supernova remnant is known as the Veil Nebula, also called the Cirrus Nebula or the Filamentary Nebula.

“This nebula is the remnant of a star roughly 20 times as massive as the Sun that exploded between 10,000 and 20,000 years ago,” the Hubble astronomers said.

This new image is made up of observations from Hubble’s Wide Field Camera 3 (WFC3) in the optical part of the spectrum.

“This view combines images taken in three different filters, highlighting emission from hydrogen, sulfur and oxygen atoms,” the astronomers said.

“The image shows just a small fraction of the Veil Nebula. If you could see the entire nebula without the aid of a telescope, it would be as wide as six full Moons placed side by side.”

“Although this image captures the Veil Nebula at just a single point in time, it will help researchers understand how the supernova remnant has evolved over decades.”

“Combining this snapshot with Hubble observations from 1994 will reveal the motion of individual knots and filaments of gas over that span of time, enhancing our understanding of this stunning nebula.”

According to SpaceX, the Falcon 9 first-stage booster being is seeing its first flight.

This is rare, as SpaceX flies first-stages well over 20 times each. It is unknown how many first-stage boosters SpaceX currently has in rotation.

There will be no Florida sonic booms, as the newly flown first-stage will land on the Just Read the Instructions drone ship, which will be waiting in the Atlantic Ocean.

Ukraine conflict was ‘provoked’ – Trump adviser

The US promise of NATO membership for Kiev triggered the hostilities, Steve Witkoff has said

The Ukraine conflict was “provoked” and it is wrong to solely blame Russia, Steve Witkoff, a senior adviser to US President Donald Trump, has said. Moscow had to respond to a security threat created by the West’s promises to accept Ukraine into NATO, he stated.

Witkoff made the remarks in an interview published by CNN on Tuesday, in which he was asked whether Washington was choosing the right side by holding talks with Moscow instead of continuing to funnel aid to Kiev.

The situation is not black-and-white, with Russians being “the bad guys,” Witkoff told CNN’s Jake Tapper.

“The war didn’t need to happen, it was provoked,” he added. “It doesn’t necessarily mean it was provoked by the Russians.”

According to Witkoff, “there were all kinds of conversations… about Ukraine joining NATO”prior to the conflict that were treated by Moscow as a direct threat to its security and prompted it to respond.

The US official also spoke about Russia’s readiness to swiftly end the conflict through negotiations, pointing to the talks held in Istanbul in the spring of 2022, shortly after Moscow began its military campaign.

The peace process came to an abrupt end in May of that year when Kiev withdrew from the talks after then-British Prime Minister Boris Johnson urged it to continue fighting.

Russian officials “have indicated that they are responsive” to ending the conflict by engaging in “cogent and substantive negotiations” in Istanbul, Witkoff said, adding that the two sides “came very, very close to signing something.”

The Türkiye-facilitated Russian-Ukrainian peace talks in 2022 resulted in a preliminary agreement for a treaty that would have seen Ukraine become a neutral nation with a limited military, backed by security guarantees from major world powers, including Russia.

According to Witkoff, the preliminary Istanbul agreement could be used by Washington as a framework and a “guidepost” for a future peace deal.

Last week, Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky described the Istanbul talks as “an important reference point and the platform where the parties came closest to an agreement.” He also named Türkiye an “ideal host” for potential negotiations between Kiev, Moscow, and Washington.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly referred to the Istanbul agreements as a potential basis for any future peace deal with Kiev.
