Everyone is frustrated because they want to see the Epstein files and I do too, but here are the facts:

As of today, the DOJ has completed a review of over 5 million documents, conducted by over 500 attorneys, and they are ready to be released NOW.

However, Obama appointed Judge Paul Engelmayer has ordered a SECOND review of those documents and is now requiring certification of those documents by U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton, while simultaneously blocking the appointment of a special counsel. This is causing MAJOR delays.

I will be bringing forward a bill to IMPEACH Judge Engelmayer for obstructing the release of the Epstein files and failure to appoint special counsel! Release the files!

The FCC on Wednesday issued guidance to ensure thatprogramming on broadcast television must complywith political equal opportunities requirements and =end what one expert referred to as “DNC TV,==” Breitbart News has learned exclusively.

Decades agoCongress put protections in place through the Communications Act of 1934to ensure that broadcast television ensures equal access to legally qualified candidates for office regardless of political affiliation. Under Section 315 of the Communications Act,if a broadcast station permits any legally qualified candidatesto use its facilities, thenit shall provide equal opportunity to all other legally qualified candidates for that office.

Congress in 1959 adopted limited exceptionsto the equal opportunities requirements by amending Section 315 to exempt the equal opportunities requirement by a legally qualified requirement for any bona fide newscast, bona fide news interview, bona fide news documentary, or on-the-stop coverage of bona fidenews events.

The FCC Media Bureau guidance noted thatCongress amended Section 315to reflect concern that broadcast stationswould too broadly apply the exemptions in service of a political agenda.

“Indeed, the FCC has specifically noted that certain programs thatmight otherwise be exempt would be excluded from an exemption category if the program was ‘designed for the specific advantage of a candidate,'” the guidance stated. It continued:

The federal equal opportunities regulations operate to prevent broadcast television stations, which havebeen given access to a valuable public resource(namely, spectrum),from unfairly putting their thumbs on the scale for one political candidate or set of candidates over another. These regulations, which do not apply to cable channels or other forms of distribution, represent, in codified form the decision by Congress thatbroadcast television stations have an obligation to operate in the public interest— not in any narrow partisan, political interest. [Emphasis added.]

NBC gave President Donald Trump free commercial time in November 2024 during a NASCAR race after former Vice President Kamala Harris appeared on Saturday Night Live for one minute and 30 seconds.

Then-Commissioner Carr said at the time thatthis was a “clear and blatant effort to evade the FCC’s Equal Time rule.”

He wrote, “The purpose of the rule is to avoid exactly this type of biased and partisan conduct— a licensed broadcaster using the public airwaves to exert its influence for one candidate on the eve of an election. Unless the broadcasteroffered Equal Time to other qualifying campaigns.”

The equal political opportunities exemption changed in 2006when the FCC determined the interview portion of The Tonight Show with Jay Leo qualified as a bona fide news interview. This was the first time that the exemption applied to a late-night talk show, which primarily offers entertainment, not news coverage.This decision runs counter to a 1960 precedentwhen the Commission decided that the Jack Paar program, also referred to as the Tonight Show, was not deemed to have bona fide news interviews.

The FCC emphasized in its guidance that thebroadcast television industry has taken the 2006 staff-level decision to mean that virtually all similar entertainment programs, including daytime or late night,are exempted from equal opportunities requirementunder the bona fide news exemption.

“Importantly, the FCC has not been presented with any evidencethat the interview portion of any late night or daytimetelevision talk show program on air presently would qualify for the bona fide news exemption,” the FCC Media Bureau guidance wrote.

Daniel Suhr, the president of the Center for American Rights (CAR), praised FCC Chairman Brendan Carr’s guidance in an interview with Breitbart News.

“We’re thrilled that Chairman Carr is taking anotherimportant step on behalf of viewers to ensure better broadcasting and the end of left-wing biason the part of the networks. I think we all know that daytime and latenight talk shows have really just become DNC TV,he said.

“As the President rightly saysthey are just arms of the Democratic Partyat this point. I think you need to look no further than the Media Research Center statistics that show you know, 99 percent of guests are liberal and left wing.One hundred percent of politicians are Democrats on, you know, [Stephen] Colbert or [Jimmy] Kimmel or The View, and… none of that is in the public interest.”

“The fundamental premise of the FCCs and really Congress’s policy in this area is that that we need equal access and that theairwaves should not be twisted into a propaganda machine for just one party,” he added.

The View enflamed controversy recently after an actress tearfully claimed that her mother had shielded her eyes from allegedly seeing a lynching victim “hanging from a tree” when she was a child living in Columbus, Ohio. As Breitbart News reported,according to America’s Black Holocaust Museum, there has never been a lynching in Columbus.

The Media Research Center (MRC) found thatThe View often has to issue “legal notes” when they would accuse someone of a crime or controversial statements or practices. Some controversial claims on The Viewinclude:

• Claiming that Ginni Thomas, the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, was at the head of the protests at the Capitol on January 6, 2021.

• Multiple members of the showimplied and/or claimed that President Trump and Elon Musk stole the 2024 presidential election.

• Sunny Hostin, one of the show’s hosts, said Trump was “certainly” “guilty of insider trading” for sending out a social media post touting the stock market.

CAR last September filed a complaint against late night television host JimmyKimmel, saying that his jokes overwhelmingly attack the Republican Party over Democrats, he “lopsidedly” hosts Democrat politicians, and that his donations to Democrats represent a financial conflict of interest under FCC policy.

Suhr remarked, “This FCC decisionmeans Hollywood hosts and network executives can no longer feature Democrat candidates while shutting out Republicans.”

The CAR president described the yearssince the 2006 staff-level as an “abdication” of the FCC’s responsibility to enforce the public interest ruleand said that Carr is “rightly taking up the responsibility Congress has given the Commission and is starting to enforce the law again in a meaningful way.”

Carr moved to revive the enforcement of the public interest rule after Jimmy Kimmel falsely said that Charlie Kirk’s assassin may have been part of “MAGA.”

“When you have a broadcast license, there’s a public interest standard, which means you have to operateconsistentlywith the public interest, and one of the things that the FCC has in our case law and our precedent is this concept of a news distortion complaint==,” Carr said last September.

The Media Research Center “pored through every report about the situation in Minneapolis which aired on ABC’s World News Tonight, CBS Evening News, and NBC Nightly News, from January 7 through January 17, 2026,” reports Newsbusters. “We found a total of 121 minutes and 26 seconds of coverage devoted to the topic, of which a whopping 93 percent was negative toward federal immigration officials.”

That’s a fatwa.

In 1989, a “fatwa” was issued against author Salman Rushdieby Grand Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, Iran’s then-“supreme leader,” and the fatwa was a call for all Muslims to murder him.

Europe Prepares To Unleash Anti-Coercion "Trade Bazooka" Against Trump: Here's What's In It

While president Trump took military force over Greenland off the table (for now at least) during his Davos speech, this makes a bruising diplomatic showdown virtually assured. And ahead of whatever trade escalation the Trump admin may announce next, EU leaders toughened their position and want the European Commission to ready its most powerful trade weapon against the US if Donald Trump doesn't walk back his Greenland threats.

According to Politico, which cites five diplomats with knowledge of the situation, Germany joined France in saying it will ask the Commission to explore unleashing the Anti-Coercion Instrument (ACI) at the emergency EU leaders' summit in Brussels on Thursday evening. Berlin's move brings the EU closer to a more forceful response, with Trump’s escalating rhetoric about the Danish territory and its supporters having prompted key capitals to harden their stance on how Europe should react.

“The resolve has been there for a few days,” one of the diplomats said. “We have felt it in our bilateral talks ... there is very broad support that the EU must prepare for all scenarios, and that also includes that all instruments are on the table.”

So what exactly is the ACI?

Europe's "trade bazooka" has a 10-point list of possible measures on goods and services. They include:

Curbs on imports or exports of goods such as through quotas or licenses.

Restrictions to public tenders in the bloc, worth some 2 trillion euros ($2.3 trillion) per year. Here the EU has two options: Bids, such as for construction or defence procurement, could be excluded if U.S. goods or services make up more than 50% of the potential contract. Alternatively, a penalty score adjustment could be attached to U.S. bids.

Measures impacting services in which the US has a trade surplus with the EU, including from digital service providers Amazon, Microsoft, Netflix or Uber.

Curbs on foreign direct investment from the United States, which is the world's biggest investor in the EU.

Restrictions on protection of intellectual property rights, on access to financial services markets and on the ability to sell chemicals or food in the EU.

The EU is supposed to select measures that are likely to be most effective to stop the coercive behavior of a third country and potentially to repair injury.

What does the ACI allow?

The ACI offers a broad and flexible array of countermeasures: its aim is not merely to reciprocate, but to provide the EU with calibrated responses depending on the nature and impact of the coercion:

Trade measures are the first type of possible responses. These could consist of the imposition or increase of customs duties, import/export quotas or licenses and limitations on the free movement of certain products.

Services and non-tariff measures can also be introduced. The instrument also provides responses in the services sector, for example restrictions on the provision of cross-border services, limitation of access to certain service markets, changes in access criteria or licensing for third-country providers.

Controls on FDIs and public procurement are probably the most powerful aspects of the ACI. They allow the EU to impose restrictions on access to EU public procurement markets for entities of a coercive third country; they may limit foreign direct investment (FDI), particularly in sensitive sectors, or impose conditions on investors from third countries in strategic areas.

The ACI also allows action on intellectual property rights, financial market access or certain export controls & licensing, reflecting the need to cover broader economic areas where coercion may manifest. That said, the ACI does not allow everything. In particular, restrictions must be targeted at specific entities of the coercive country and proportionate to the harm caused. Broad investment bans in the third country would exceed this framework. In addition, measures must comply with WTO rules and relevant bilateral investment treaties; broad restrictions on a major partner like the US could raise serious legal challenges.

A top lawyer at Goldman Sachs who worked as Barack Obama’s White House Counsel is facing the music after her close links to Jeffrey Epstein are revealed in HUNDREDS of released emails.

Kathryn Ruemmler met with Epstein DOZENS of times, and was mentioned in scores of emails between the late pedophile and his legal team.

The bank is looking closely at the situation, after the revelation that the already convicted sex offender knew her sushi order of avocado rolls by heart.

“He also visited apartments she was considering buying and asked his assistant to check whether Ruemmler could get a first-class upgrade, per the outlet. […] The disgraced financier also listed the former Obama counsel as a backup executor of his will, which raised further questions inside Goldman Sachs.”

The high-powered lawyer behaves like the rest, regrets ‘ever knowing’ Epstein.

But the depth of the friendship revealed in the emails took Goldman Sachs bosses by surprise. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that ‘a plan has been devised to remove Ruemmler from the company’.

“’It was my job to engage with people and companies that had serious legal and public relations problems. Many were under criminal investigation, and many had been convicted of crimes,’ Ruemmler told the WSJ.”

“Ruemmler said she had not represented Epstein, but that he ‘informally reached out to me for advice from time to time just as he did with numerous other prominent lawyers throughout the country’.”

Epstein also referred clients to her, she added.

Emails released by the House Oversight Committee show the nature of the relationship: in September 2014, he wrote: ‘You need to talk to boss.’ Ruemmler replied: ‘Agreed, but I need to be prepared to say yes before I talk to him.’

“’Understood,’ Epstein said. ‘It comes down to high risk / reward / low risk / reward. professional, emotional. and financial.’

She responded that ‘most girls do not have to worry about this crap.’ Epstein shot back: ‘Girls? Careful i will renew an old habit’.”

Yes, you read it right – she described herself as a ‘girl’, and Epstein is comfortable enough to make pedophile jokes.

Nigel Farage’s Reform UK partywill legally challenge attempts by the governing left-wing Labour Party to cancel local elections this Mayin an apparent bid to stymie the rising populist party.

Nearly four million voters are facing the prospect of having their voices stifledthis year, as 28 local councils have applied to delay elections scheduled for May.

The councils have argued thatthey do not have time to hold elections this year, as they are in the process of restructuring how council governments operate. However,opposition parties have accused the councils of using the planned restructurings as an excuse to hang on to power.

Indeed, a JL Partners=survey last week found that Nigel Farage’s Reform UK party would have won 20 councils, including ten controlled by the governing Labour Party. Overall, theleft-wing party has applied to delay elections in 22 councils, according to The Telegraph.

The upstart party was given some hope on Tuesday, with High Court judge Justice Chamberlain ruling that afull hearing on the matter was warrantedand that one will be held next month between February 19 and 20.

In comments provided to Breitbart London, a Reform UK spokesman said: “We said we would fight Labour every step of the way on this and we are doing so.Labour are disgracefully trying to deny democracy. We are determined to win this case next month.”

Reform MP Sarah Pochin said that thepostponement of votes of 3.7 million people would represent an “unprecedented and deeply worrying assaulton our democracy that should alarm anyone who believes in free and fair elections.”

The Runcorn & Helsby lawmaker also cited previous commitments from government ministers to “crack on” with the council elections this year,quipping that it therefore represented yet another “U-turn” from Labour.

Head of policy for Reform, Zia Yusuf, added: “Reform will defend democracy against this authoritarian government and its Tory enablers.Let the people vote.”

Such arguments have apparently convinced the Speaker of the House of Commons, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, who reportedly said in a letter leaked to ITV that while he understands the argumentsfor postponing elections, he does “not believe in cancelling elections and personally believe[s] that the local elections on May 2026 should take place.”

Regardless, the local elections — complete or not — are set to be a major litmus test for Prime Minsiter Sir Keir Starmer, whose approval rating has cratered since winning a strong majority in the 2024 general election.Should the party suffer heavy defeats in May, there could be leadership challenges against the PM as the party prepares to face Brexit boss Nigel Farage at the 2029 general election.

The European Parliament has sent the agreement with South America’s Mercosur bloc for judicial review amid protests

The European Parliament has voted to refer a trade agreement with the South American bloc Mercosur to the EU Court of Justice (CJEU). The move comes amid criticism of Commission President Ursula von der Leyen for bypassing normal EU procedures and widespread protests from farmers across the bloc.

On Saturday, the EU signed a trade pact with Mercosur members Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay. The agreement, which is projected to create the world’s biggest free trade zone, still requires approval before it can take effect.

On Wednesday, the EU Parliament voted 334 in favor to 324 against, with 11 abstentions, to ask the CJEU to determine whether the deal is compatible with the bloc’s rules. The move now significantly delays the pact that had been negotiated for 25 years, and could potentially derail final approval.

Kraft Heinz shares are down about 7.5% in New York premarket trading, the biggest drop in just under four years, after the company filed an 8K allowing Berkshire Hathaway to sell up to 325.4 million shares of stock if it chooses to do so.

Kraft Heinz's permission to sell is not an actual sale. No shares have been sold as a result of this filing, and Berkshire is not obligated to sell anything.

The proposed sale of the 325.4 million shares by Berkshire represents about 28% of the packaged-food company. This comes as the company recently announced plans to split into two.

Bloomberg noted, "After years of underperformance, Kraft Heinz announced in September that it would separate into two public companies, essentially undoing its $46 billion mega-merger from a decade ago. During the farmers’ protest in Strasbourg, ahead of the European Parliament’s vote on the Mercosur trade deal, police used tear gas against demonstrators seeking an appeal to block the agreement. Officers reportedly were forced to throw stun grenades at the protesters as they tried to enter the parliament building.

Israel prevents Palestinian committee members appointed by Trump from entering Gaza

The new violation comes as France has rejected Trump’s invitation to join the so-called 'Board of Peace,' which critics say aims to rival the UN

Israel has blocked members of the Palestinian technocratic committee meant to administer Gaza from entering the besieged strip, Hebrew media outlets reported on 20 January.

Israel is “refusing to allow” their entry, Palestinian sources told Israeli newspaper Haaretz.

The technocratic committee was supposed to enter Gaza this week via the Rafah border crossing and take over civil administration. However, Israel is refusing to open the crossing in violation of the ceasefire agreement and despite US calls to do so.

According to Israeli reports, the committee members still do not know when or how they will begin their work in Gaza due to the rejection of their entry via the crossing.

“Israel’s Security Cabinet decided Sunday night not to open the Rafah Crossing at this time,” Israeli news site Ynet reported on Monday evening.

The reports come as Washington is planning to hold a signing ceremony in Davos, Switzerland, to officially launch the Gaza ‘Board of Peace,’ led by US President Donald Trump.

The signing is expected to take place on Thursday at the World Economic Forum in Davos at 10:30 am.

However, some countries are unwilling to join.

A source close to French President Emmanuel Macron told AFP that France “does not intend to answer favorably” to the invitation to join the Gaza ‘Board of Peace.’ This was confirmed by the French president’s office.

The board’s charter “goes beyond the framework of Gaza and raises serious questions, in particular with respect to the principles and structure of the United Nations, which cannot be called into question,” Macron’s office said.

In response, Trump threatened a 200 percent tax on French wine imports to the US. The UK and several EU officials are also hesitant about the plan, according to multiple reports.

Trump has demanded that countries seeking to join the ‘Board of Peace’ must pay $1 billion, Bloomberg and Times of Israel reported over the weekend, citing the board’s charter.

Former UK premier Tony Blair, who was designated as a member of the board, has rejected the $1 billion buy-in.

“Some countries would likely refuse to join the Board as a result of Trump’s terms. Others may agree in principle to joining the Board of Peace but decline to pay the fee for permanent membership, they added. They would then either seek to negotiate it away or quit the board if Trump insisted on the idea,” sources told Bloomberg.

World leaders are said to be wary of the plan due to language in the board’s charter suggesting that Trump may seek to transform the body into an alternative or rival to the UN.

“Durable peace requires pragmatic judgment, common-sense solutions, and the courage to depart from approaches and institutions that have too often failed,” according to a draft of the charter seen by Reuters. It added that there is a “need for a more nimble and effective international peace-building body.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin has also been invited to join. The Kremlin said the proposal was being studied.

The board is supposed to comprise 15 world leaders. Former Bulgarian politician Nikolay Mladenov has been designated the director-general.

Trump has named Secretary of State Marco Rubio, his son-in-law Jared Kushner, West Asia envoy Steve Witkoff, and Blair as chairs of a second ‘Executive Board’ which will be overseen by the ‘Board of Peace.’

The ‘Executive Board’ is meant to be tasked with overseeing the technocratic committee.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has accepted US President Donald Trump’s invitation to join the Board of Peace, the premier’s office announced Wednesday, as Sweden and Norway became the latest nations to say they would not be joining, and Spain said European leaders were working to consolidate a common position.

The proposed board would be chaired for life by Trump and start by addressing the Gaza conflict before expanding to other wars, with member countries required to pay a $1 billion fee each to earn permanent membership.

Western diplomats say the board could undermine the work of the United Nations.

Netanyahu has previously criticized Washington’s decision to place senior representatives from Turkey and Qatar on the Board of Peace’s operational arm for Gaza, called the Gaza Executive Board, making it initially unclear whether he would want to legitimize that panel’s makeup by joining the Board of Peace.

Over the course of the investigation, authorities seized 1 000 tonnes of chemicals, potentially removing 300 tonnes of synthetic drugs from the EU drug market

A large-scale law enforcement action, conducted within the Europol-coordinated operation Fabryka, led to the dismantling of a criminal network operating across the European Union. On Friday, 16 January, coordinated efforts took place in Poland, as well as in Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands. These actions targeted a network suspected of importing a large quantity of precursors used for the production of synthetic drugs in labs across multiple countries. Additionally, the network engaged in money laundering activities to further its illicit operations. The year-long operation Fabryka involved law enforcement and judicial authorities from Belgium, Czechia, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, and Spain.

Over the course of the investigation, law enforcement authorities determined that the network may have imported over 1 000 tonnes of precursors – enough to produce over 300 tonnes of synthetic drugs such as MDMA, amphetamine, and cathinone. The illegal activities are estimated to generate billions in criminal profits for the involved criminal networks. The criminal assets flow into the legal economy, creating significant risks of market distortion, unfair competition, and the systematic infiltration of legitimate businesses by organised crime.

The investigation commenced in 2024 based on intelligence shared by the Polish Police, specifically from the Drug Crime Unit of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław. The information supplied by the Lower Silesian police officers was pivotal in initiating the case and facilitating subsequent international cooperation within the taskforce. Between February 2025 and January 2026, over 20 action days were conducted, targeting connected criminal groups, their production facilities, and storage sites across Europe. The operation culminated in a coordinated action day against the alleged wholesale network responsible for importing and distributing precursor chemicals.

This network was responsible for the importation, repackaging, and distribution of precursors used in the production of synthetic drugs. The chemicals, sourced from China and India, entered the EU through various countries and were transported to Poland for repackaging and further distribution to illegal labs across the EU. Since the beginning of the investigation in 2024, Europol supported action days targeting different cells of the network as well as connected groups involved in lab production of synthetic drugs.

FBI Director Kash Patel tells Just the News that "paying openly anti-Trump activists to identify Americans using questionable technology is a stunning abuse of bureau authorities."

The Biden-era FBI made more than $100,000 in payments to informants who were members of an anonymous group of tech sleuths known as the "Sedition Hunters" to gather and analyze video evidence in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot and Arctic Frost probes despite the group’s significant anti-Trump fervor and known ties to foreigners, according to memos reviewed by Just the News.

The payments are due to be disclosed by FBI Director Kash Patel to Congress along with acknowledged concerns that the Christopher Wray-run bureau’s approval of certain members of the Sedition Hunters as confidential human sources may have violated bureau policies in the Domestic Investigation and Operations Guide (DIOG) concerning informant bias, informant secrecy, foreign influence, and contracting transparency, officials said.

Government officials said group members were first engaged in January 2021, just days after the Capitol riot, to assist making arrests in the January 6 case by identifying potential defendants using facial recognition software. The group members received at least $150,000 in payments for that work and other work related to the Arctic Frost probe into whether Trump supporters violated the law by promoting alternate electors to be considered for the certification of the 2020 election.

Biden-era FBI knew paid foreigners were using spyware to identify J6 arrestees

One of the earliest emails from the FBI’s Washington field office that oversaw that work showed the FBI was clearly aware the group had foreign connections and may actually be using software from overseas to identify American citizens for arrest, according to a copy of the email reviewed by Just the News.

The late January 2021 email from the FBI's Washington field office stated that “we have a sedition hunter from the United Kingdom running facial recognition software” with the tipster telling the bureau that this UK-based so-called sedition hunter “just found this possible match” to an alleged January 6 suspect a few minutes prior, sharing the picture with the FBI.

FBI Director Kash Patel told Just the News on Tuesday night he is concerned that the paid informant relationship with Sedition Hunters members was inappropriate, and he was committed to working with Congress to develop rules to avoid such entanglements in the future.

"The American people deserve the truth about how the FBI was weaponized against them. Paying openly anti-Trump activists to identify Americans using questionable technology is a stunning abuse of bureau authorities and a clear violation of longstanding informant rules," Patel said in a statement to Just the News.

"Under my leadership, the FBI will fully disclose these actions to Congress and ensure the bureau never again serves partisan or political ends instead of the Constitution," he added.

Officials said the FBI believes it has fired all supervisors who were involved in the informant relationship, but is doing an audit to make sure he didn't overlook any players.

Witkoff announces talks with Putin on Thursday

The Kremlin has confirmed the talks with the US envoy will take place in the coming 24 hours.

US special envoy Steve Witkoff has saidhe will meet Russian President Vladimir Putin this weekto discuss the settlement of the Ukraine conflict.

Witkoff made the announcement while speaking to CNBC on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos on Wednesday. “Well, look, ⁠we have to go meet him on Thursday,” Witkoff said, referring to Putin.

He noted that there has been “great progress” in settling the conflict in recent weeks, but said territorial disputes remain the key sticking point.

Witkoff also noted that he would be accompanied by US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner. “Jared and I will leave Thursday night and arrive in Moscow late at night, and then go over to the UAE afterwards for working groups,” he said.

According to Witkoff,the meeting will take place at Russia’s request. “They’ve asked for the meeting. The Russians have invited us to come.And that’s a significant statement from them… So I think everybody is embedded in the process and wants to see a peace deal happen.”

Witkoff said the talks will bebased on Washington’s 20-point peace plan. “We’re massaging it and harmonizing it, and I think we’re down to land deals now – that’s been the 800lb elephant in the room– and I think we have some very, very good ideas around that,” he stated.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed Witkoff and Kushner’s upcoming visit. He also noted that “it is important for us to obtain all the information on the discussions between Americans, Europeans, and Ukrainians” and the relevant proposals.

Witkoff’s comments come following his meeting with Kirill Dmitriev, a key special envoy to Putin, in Davos, on Tuesday,after the Kremlin said Moscow intended to pass “certain information” to the US on the settlement talks.

Witkoff met Putin at least six times in person in 2025 as part of efforts to advance peace talks, with the most recent five-hour talks taking place on December 2. At the time, Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov said that “no compromises have been found as of yet,” adding that “some American proposals are acceptable to Russia... others are not.”

PORTLAND, Maine — U.S. Department of Homeland Security officials said they have launched “Operation Catch of the Day,” a targeted U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement effort in Maine.

ICE Deputy Assistant Director Patricia Hyde told Fox News the operation has resulted in about 50 arrests so far. Hyde said the agency is targeting about 1,400 individuals in Maine.

Hyde also criticized Maine’s law enforcement ban on collaboration with Immigration and Customs Enforcement, saying it has hindered operations.

She told Fox News “agitators” in the state impeded enforcement actions, but added that the agency will continue until it has arrested all its targets.

DHS did not immediately provide additional details on the specific locations of arrests or the identities of those targeted.

Westbrook Mayor David Morse said in a social media post that ICE has been actively conducting operations and detaining people in Westbrook Tuesday and Wednesday.

"At least one peaceful US citizen observer from Westbrook was targeted for intimidation by a masked federal law enforcement officer this morning," Morse said. "This is outrageous behavior from a federal authority, and I stand by our citizens’ rights to peacefully observe and/or protest."

Reports of increased ICE activity spread across southern Maine on Tuesday, prompting brief school lockouts and rising anxiety among immigrant communities.

Two Portland schools—Deering High School and Lincoln Middle School—briefly locked their doors around 9 a.m. after reports of ICE agents possibly on nearby Brighton Avenue. No threat was found, and the lockouts were quickly lifted, district officials said.

"This is an understandably tense time in our community, as reports and rumors of immigration enforcement actions grow," a statement from Portland Public Schools said. "The Portland Public Schools will continue to follow our protocols for keeping students and staff safe, while also staying focused on our core work of teaching and learning. We will continue to provide updates directly to our PPS community as we have information to share."

Lewiston Mayor Carl Sheline said Tuesday afternoon there is an "increased presence of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Lewiston." He said he is basing that on posts he's seen online and what he's heard throughout town. Sheline has not been able to confirm that with ICE.

"I know, given the national news, this may cause anxiety, fear or uncertainty for some in our community. In moments like this, what matters most is how we show up for one another and that we remember who we are and what we stand for as Mainers: the rule of law, the right to peacefully protest, and compassion for our neighbors," Sheline said in a statement. "I ask everyone to remain calm and peaceful, act lawfully and rely on verified information. I urge you to know your constitutional rights. If you encounter an ICE agent, it is very important to remain calm."

He told NEWS CENTER Maine earlier that the city is working on finding ways to support one another.

Elsewhere, Penobscot Nation Chief Kirk Francis urged tribal members to carry tribal identification amid reports of federal detentions of Native Americans in other states. He said no ICE activity had been reported on tribal lands in Maine but cautioned members to stay informed.

"We know that many of you have heard reports of ICE interactions involving individuals who are, by law and by birthright, citizens of Tribal Nations," Francis said in a statement. "News and social media reports indicate that ICE has detained several Native Americans throughout the country and have conducted raids on facilities located on Tribal lands. The Tribal government has verified that some of these reports are true, and some are false."

Gavin Newsom was informed at the 11th hour that his talk with Fortune at USA House in Davos was canceled.

Newsom had been invited to speak on Wednesday at an event sponsored by USA House, which for the first time was recognized by the U.S. government as the country’s official headquarters at Davos. But an organizer told his office that they had opted to not include any U.S. officials in the talk focused on CEOs and other business leaders.

In a private exchange of messages obtained by POLITICO, a Newsom administration official accused the USA House of bowing to political pressure from the State Department — an accusation the organizer denied, while emphasizing the governor was still welcome in the venue — in a microcosm of the larger geopolitical tensions on display.

The back-and-forth reflected the political sparring match playing out at the gathering of the world’s elite. Newsom, the Democratic governor of California and a likely 2028 presidential contender, attended to trumpet California as an alternative to the vision laid out by Trump officials who also gathered in Switzerland.

In the exchange, an event organizer denied to a Newsom official that the organization had “un-invited” Newsom or acted under any political imperative. USA House did not immediately respond to POLITICO’s request for comment.

Newsom has planned to use the gathering to excoriate what he casts as the Trump administration’s abuses of power, framing California — and implicitly himself — as a better partner to European allies who are reeling from Trump’s effort to claim Greenland. He challenged European counterparts this week to confront Trump, calling the president “pathetic.”

White House officials have not been shy about punching back. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent mocked the governor from a Davos stage earlier on Wednesday, saying Newsom “may be the only Californian who knows less about economics than Kamala Harris” and warning the Trump administration is “coming to California” to crack down on alleged fraud. Bessent also appeared to hint at the cancellation.

“I was told he was asked to give a speech on his signature policies but he’s not speaking,” Bessent said, “because what have his economic policies brought? Outward migration from California, a gigantic budget deficit, the largest homeless population in America.”

The episode is reminiscent of a spat when Newsom traveled to Washington last month and accused the Trump administration of declining to make an official available for a meeting about California’s longstanding request for more federal wildfire aid.

Hundreds of thousands of residents left the Ukrainian capital this month alone, Vitaly Klitschko has said

Zelensky blamed the mayor for the situation, saying in a public address last week that Kiev is less prepared for the energy crisis than other cities like Kharkov. Klitschko dismissed the criticism as unfounded and said the Ukrainian leader turned down his requests for a meeting to discuss the crisis. The mayor also maintained that electricity generation is the responsibility of the federal government, not the city.

Opposition MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak blamed both Zelensky and Klitschko for the crisis, saying they “need to stop pointing fingers at each other.”

Zheleznyak added, however, that his “first question is to Zelensky, especially after all these corruption scandals.” According to the lawmaker, the city has had a military administration connected to the president for four years, and “the largest municipal budget in the country.”

Ukraine was hit by a massive corruption scandal in November 2025, which involved a close associate and business partner of Zelensky, Timur Mindich – who allegedly ran a $100 million kickback scheme in the energy sector, which heavily depends on Western aid. The scandal led to the resignations of several ministers, including Energy Svetlana Grinchuk, and Zelensky’s then-chief of staff, Andrey Yermak.

Kiev Mayor Vitaly Klitschko has warned thatthe Ukrainian capital is moving toward a “humanitarian catastrophe,” in an interview with The Times published on Tuesday. He also publicly exchanged blame for the situation in the city with Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky.

Around 5,600 apartment buildings remain without heating, Klitschko told the British paper, calling the situation “critical.”He urged residents to leave the city of 3 million and said 600,000 have already done so this month alone.(where are the people supposed to go?)

President Donald Trump announced a dramatic breakthrough in his bid to acquire Greenland after striking a deal with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

Trump said he will scrap tariffs scheduled for February 1st following what he described as 'very productive' talks on a framework agreement covering the entire Arctic region.

U.S. military forces apprehended the sanctioned motor vessel Sagitta without incident this morning in the Caribbean, marking the seventh tanker seizure in recent weeks as Washington intensifies its crackdown on sanctioned vessels linked to illicit oil trades involving Venezuela and Russia.

The operation was conducted by U.S. military forces in support of the Department of Homeland Security, according to U.S. Southern Command. “Through #OpSouthernSpear, the @DeptofWar is unwavering in its mission to crush illicit activity in the Western Hemisphere in partnership with @USCG, @DHSgov and @TheJusticeDept,” the command said in a statement posted to X.

“The apprehension of another tanker operating in defiance of President Trump’s established quarantine of sanctioned vessels in the Caribbean demonstrates our resolve to ensure that the only oil leaving Venezuela will be oil that is coordinated properly and lawfully,” SOUTHCOM added. “As the joint force operates in the Western Hemisphere, we reaffirm that the security of the American people is paramount, demonstrating our commitment to safety and stability.”

According to maritime intelligence firm TankerTrackers.com, the Sagitta (IMO 9296822) had served Russia’s oil export operations for three years before being sanctioned by the U.S. Treasury on January 10, 2025. The vessel then shifted to exporting fuel oil out of Venezuela in August 2025 under what TankerTrackers described as a “zombie alias.”

Video of the tanker shared by SOUTHCOM appears to show the Sagitta is currently unladen.

The tanker was designated by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) because U.S. Treasury determined it was part of Russia’s “shadow fleet” used to move Russian crude above the G7 $60 price cap, helping Moscow evade sanctions and fund the war in Ukraine. OFAC identified its owner as Sunne Co Limited, an entity Treasury says operates in Russia’s energy sector and manages multiple tankers engaged in high-risk, opaque trades.

Equasis data shows the ship was built in 2005 and is registered to Hong Kong-based owner Camellia Jackson LTD. Its current flag is listed as “Not Known” as of January 2024; it was previously registered in Panama.

OFAC cited several key violations: the Sagitta made port calls at Russian terminals where crude was consistently sold above the $60 per barrel cap, violating the G7 mechanism designed to restrict Kremlin revenue. The ship was operating part of a network of aging, often anonymously owned tankers that use murky corporate structures, frequent flag changes, and opaque management to conceal Russian oil movements.

The Sagitta was one of ten tankers OFAC listed as being owned by Sunne Co Limited, which Treasury designated for “operating in the energy sector of the Russian Federation economy.” All Sunne vessels were identified as blocked property under Executive Orders 14024 and 13662. Treasury noted that several vessels in this network have also carried sanctioned Iranian oil, underscoring what officials called serial sanctions-busting behavior.

As a result, all U.S. property interests in the Sagitta have been frozen, U.S. persons are barred from dealings with the vessel, and non-U.S. parties risk secondary sanctions for providing services such as bunkering, insurance, or port access.

The latest seizure follows a pattern of aggressive enforcement actions by U.S. authorities since President Trump announced a “complete blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers entering or leaving Venezuela” on December 16, 2025.

Last week, on January 15, U.S. military and Coast Guard forces seized the sanctioned motor tanker Veronica in another pre-dawn boarding operation. Marines and sailors from Joint Task Force Southern Spear, operating from the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78), took control of that vessel without incident, with support from the Navy’s Amphibious Ready Group, including USS Iwo Jima (LHD 7), USS San Antonio (LPD 17), and USS Fort Lauderdale (LPD 28).

The military and Coast Guard have now seized six vessels in recent weeks in international waters, part of a campaign that has included the January 3 capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. Earlier seizures include the Olina on January 9, the M Sophia and Marinera (formerly Bella 1) on January 7, and the VLCC Skipper and tanker Centuries in December.

The crackdown has drawn sharp criticism from Moscow. Russia’s Foreign Ministry has labeled the operations “the illegal use of force” and warned it could retaliate by seizing U.S.-flagged ships.

“These operations are backed by the full power our elite joint force team deployed in the Caribbean,” U.S. Southern Command said.

Two Routes to Dissolution

The Japanese Constitution provides two ways for dissolving the lower house. The most commonly applied method is set out in Article 7. House Oversight Chairman James Comer confirmed Wednesday that Ghislaine Maxwell will be deposed by the committee on February 9 in connection with its investigation into Jeffrey Epstein.

​Nearly a year after President Donald Trump signed an executive order to protect “children from chemical and surgical mutilation,” Leor Sapir, who assembled a team of experts to produce the HHS review, emphasized that doctors relying on unproven gender-affirming guidelines are misleading patients.

​Sapir, an HHS report author and senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute, told The Epoch Times there is no solid evidence that puberty blockers, hormones, or surgery benefit children who reject their sexual identity, but that evidence exists that these procedures can cause harm.

​The 409-page HHS report states that psychotherapy, rather than unproven medical interventions, has greater benefits for children with gender dysphoria, reinforcing the need for evidence-based approaches.

“Fraud is not just a feature, or, I should say, it’s not just something that happens in this field. It’s almost fundamental to the field itself,” Sapir said during an interview with American Thought Leader host Jan Jekielek that aired Jan. 15.

Three Palestinian journalists, one of them a contributor to the French news agency AFP, were killed Wednesday in an IDF strike in central Gaza. The military said its forces identified several suspects operating a drone linked to Hamas in an area that posed a threat to troops

Immediately after the identification, and in light of the danger, the IDF “carried out a targeted strike against the suspects who were operating the drone,” it said. According to the military, “the strike was carried out in accordance with the required chain of approvals.”

Palestinian sources said the strike hit a vehicle belonging to the Egyptian Committee for the Reconstruction of Gaza, near the American Hospital in central Gaza, in the al-Zahra area. Following the incident, Egypt lodged a strong protest with Israel and demanded clarifications. The case was reported by several international media outlets, including The New York Times.

According to Palestinian sources, the three journalists killed were Mohammed Salah Kashta, Abed al-Raouf Shaat and Anas Ranim. Abed al-Raouf had been employed by AFP since February 2024 but was not carrying out work for the news agency at the time of the strike. The last report he filed for AFP was on Monday.

Hamas said that “the targeting of a vehicle belonging to the Egyptian aid committee in central Gaza, in which three photojournalists were killed while carrying out their work in displacement camps, constitutes a war crime and a grave violation of the cease-fire agreement.” The group accused Israel of continuing attacks on civilians and aid facilities and called on mediators and guarantor countries, led by the United States, to intervene immediately to enforce the agreement and condemn Israel.

An eyewitness to the strike told AFP that the three journalists had been “using a drone to film the distribution of humanitarian aid by the Egyptian aid committee when a vehicle accompanying them was struck from the air.” Mahmoud Azzam, who was also present, said the area where the strike occurred “was considered safe and humanitarian.”

Mohammed Mansour, a spokesman for the Egyptian Committee for Aid to Gaza, said that “a vehicle belonging to the committee was attacked during a humanitarian mission,” described the strike as “a crime,” and said all vehicles belonging to the Egyptian body bear its logo.

Earlier, the IDF said: “IDF forces identified a number of suspects operating a drone linked to Hamas in central Gaza, in an area that posed a threat to the forces. Immediately after the identification, and in light of the risk posed by the drone, the IDF carried out a targeted strike against the suspects who were operating the drone. The strike was carried out in accordance with the required chain of approvals. The details of the incident are under review.”

Last British soldiers evacuate the United States

On November 25, 1783, the last British soldiers evacuate the United States.

The signing of the Treaty of Paris ended hostilities between the United States and Great Britain on September 3, 1783. Sir Guy Carleton, commander of British forces in North America at the time, received orders in August to begin planning the evacuation of all remaining British troops from the United States.

The evacuation plans dragged on because of large numbers of Loyalists descending on New York in a panic to flee the country. Nearly 30,000 Loyalists and escaped slaves left with the British, most ending up in Quebec or Nova Scotia.

General Carleton finally announced the last of the troops would be leaving at noon on November 25th. George Washington waited outside the city until the British left and their flag was removed from a pole at the Battery at the southern end of Manhattan (A battery is a military fortification with guns or cannons). Wiley British soldiers had hoisted their Union Flag on a greased pole on their way out of the city.

Several attempts were made to get the flag down, but were unsuccessful due to the grease. Eventually, American soldier John Van Arsdale was able to climb the pole by nailing pieces of wood to the pole and climbing up on them. He tore the British flag down and replaced it with the American Flag. Shortly after, a triumphant General George Washington entered the city and marched down Broadway to the Battery.

For a hundred years after, Evacuation Day was celebrated around the United States, but especially in New York City. Evacuation Day was New York City's biggest celebration of the year for a century and the evacuation was commemorated with a game of boys competing to take down a Union Flag from a greased flagpole in Battery Park. A descendant of John Van Arsdale would then climb the pole and put up a US Flag.

Once the Civil War came and Abraham Lincoln announced the annual Thanksgiving Day, Evacuation Day celebrations around the country tended to be absorbed by Thanksgiving Day celebrations. Evacuation Day was eventually lost because the date of November 25 was so close to the Thanksgiving date of the last Thursday of the month. The annual celebrations continued in New York, however, until World War I, at which time people seemed to lose their animosity toward Britain after its allied cooperation with the United States during the war.

Ramirez: As a Chicagoan, I know the terror that DHS can inflict with unlimited resources and unchecked power. You just saw some of that with what Congressman Magaziner just showed. Our constituents are being surveilled, they’re being threatened, they’re being tear gassed, and subjected to warrantless arrest, rammed with vehicles, they’re being kidnapped. And you’ve seen it, they’re also being disappeared. Yet, those, the— there are those in Congress who would still expand DHS’s budget and ICE capacity to enact Trump’s mass deportation agenda. And so I often get asked back in my district, how is this possible? How is it that they can behave this way? How can they tear gas a six month old baby? Isn’t Congress supposed to be a check on DHS?

Well, first I say to them that would require my Republican colleagues to agree that bringing senior ICE officials to testify before this committee is critical, and I do hear, Chairman, that that may happen in six weeks or so. I think it’s far too late. They should be here right now. Secondly, that would also suggest that DHS is behaving in ways outside its design. Now, let me be clear, DHS and ICE, it’s not rogue. Let me tell you why, because from its establishment, Congress empowered DHS to violate our rights under the pretense of securing our safety. Who feels safe right now under DHS? DHS was intentionally established with an overbroad mission and unchecked power, which has been expanded by Republicans with a blank check, unlimited personnel, and no guardrails whatsoever.

And Trump, with his authoritarian tendencies, is only making visible what so many communities have already known to be true. DHS is a threat to our collective safety and funding it only fuels our destruction and our human suffering. It’s why 32 people have died in detention in ICE’s deadliest year yet. US citizens are being shot and killed, and the agency doesn’t even know who they’re hiring and doesn’t seem to even care who they’re hiring. Yet, Trump’s campaign donors are profiting off the pain of our neighbors, including children, and so today I say enough.

I am introducing today the Melt ICE Act that would prohibit DHS from using funds to detain or monitor immigrants, effectively limiting ICE’s authority and ability to continue to cause pain and terror, while redirecting the funding that they have, taxpayer dollars that they’re using to kill us citizens, back into the communities impacted by ICE’s terror through wraparound services because we know that DHS is being used as a weapon to be pointed towards anyone the government considers a Public Enemy, and fascism always requires a Public Enemy. So, we must take the weapon away and hold those who have allowed our communities to be terrorized accountable.

Operation Of Australia's Largest Coal Power Station Extended To 2029

The 2,880-megawatt Eraring coal-fired power station will continue to operate until 2029, operator Origin Energy has announced.

The facility is the country’s largest power station by output and is situated on the banks of Lake Macquarie, north of Sydney in New South Wales (NSW).

In an announcement to the ASX (pdf), Origin said the move would reduce risks to system security, highlighted by the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) in its recent Transition Plan for System Security.

That report warned that, in NSW alternative energy assets required to “maintain system security are not currently scheduled to be operational before the announced retirement date of Eraring Power Station.”

“We’ve taken the decision to extend Eraring’s operations after assessing a range of factors, including the needs of our customers, market conditions and the important role the plant plays in the NSW energy system,” Origin CEO Frank Calabria said.

“Good progress has been made on the delivery of new energy infrastructure, including major transmission works and projects like our large-scale battery at Eraring, but it has become clear Eraring Power Station will need to run for longer to support [a] secure and stable power supply.”

The decision is aimed at providing more time for the delivery of renewables, storage, and transmission projects, he said. It also reflected uncertainty about the reliability of Australia’s ageing coal and gas fleet.

The company originally planned to close it in 2025, then extended it to August 2027 after the NSW Labor government struck a $450 million risk-sharing deal for the ageing facility, which committed the state to covering a percentage of losses up to $225 million per year if given advance notice by Origin.

About half of Australia’s national electricity grid is powered by black coal-fired power stations such as Eraring.

Government Welcomes Extension

The state’s Minister for Energy Penny Sharpe welcomed the announcement in a statement.

“My number one job is keeping the lights on and putting downward pressure on power prices. NSW is making real progress in replacing ageing coal-fired power stations. Since the election, we have increased the amount of renewable energy capacity in operation by almost 70 percent. That’s equivalent to Eraring’s capacity,” Sharpe said.

“Current energy security projections show NSW is expected to have sufficient energy supply when Eraring closes in 2029, thanks to new renewable generation and storage coming online.

“The agreement reached with Origin in 2024 gets the balance right and has so far not cost NSW taxpayers a single dollar.”

The guarantee is due to expire in August 2027.

The United States announced today that yesterday evening it took into custody 37 fugitives from Mexico facing a range of federal criminal charges around the country, including charges relating to narcoterrorism, providing material support to a foreign terrorist organization, firearms trafficking, human smuggling, money laundering, and various drug trafficking offenses, including conspiracy to traffic methamphetamine, fentanyl, and cocaine.

Among the fugitives taken into U.S. custody are prolific human smugglers, violent arms traffickers, and alleged members of dangerous drug cartels, including those designated as Foreign Terrorist Organizations and Specially Designated Global Terrorists, such as the Sinaloa Cartel, Cártel de Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG), Cártel del Noreste (CDN, formerly Los Zetas), and Cártel de Golfo (CDG) as well as additional drug trafficking organizations, such as the Gulf Cartel, La Linea, and the former Beltrán-Leyva Organization.

“The FBI has proven that we will hold dangerous criminals accountable for their egregious violent acts, no matter where they try to hide,” said FBI Director Kash Patel. “Today’s announcement of the return of dozens of fugitives from Mexico to face charges is yet another example of the FBI’s relentless work and partnerships here in the U.S. and in Mexico. We will continue to work to put a stop to these drug cartels, arms traffickers, and terrorists from bringing crime, drugs, and firearms to our city streets and neighborhoods.”

“The significance of this transfer cannot be overstated. Thirty-seven fugitives were brought from Mexico to the United States to face justice for alleged crimes that have spread violence, threatened public safety, and devastated families. Among them are individuals tied to the Sinaloa Cartel and the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, both designated Foreign Terrorist Organizations,” said Administrator Terrance Cole of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). “We thank the Government of Mexico for standing with us. DEA will keep driving forward with our U.S. and international partners to dismantle these terrorist cartels, cut off the fentanyl supply, and save American lives.”

“Leadership like President Trump’s and Attorney General Bondi’s to work diligently to bring all of these wanted criminals back to the United States reinforces their commitment to getting justice for their victims,” said Director Gadyaces S.
