Ørsted’s Revolution Wind Project Hit with Federal Stop-Work Order at 80% Completion

The U.S. Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has ordered Ørsted’s Revolution Wind project to halt all offshore activities, delivering another setback to America’s emerging offshore wind industry. The directive, issued on August 22, 2025, comes as the project has reached 80% completion with all foundations installed and 45 of 65 planned wind turbines already in place.

Revolution Wind LLC, a 50/50 joint venture between Ørsted and Global Infrastructure Partner’s Skyborn Renewables, confirmed it is complying with the order and “taking appropriate steps to stop offshore activities, ensuring the safety of workers and the environment”.

The company stated it is “evaluating all options to resolve the matter expeditiously,” including engagement with permitting agencies and potential legal proceedings. Ørsted aims to resume construction to meet its commercial operation date in the second half of 2026.

In its directive to Ørsted, BOEM cited the need “to halt all ongoing activities related to the Revolution Wind Project on the outer continental shelf (OCS) to allow time for it to address concerns that have arisen during the review that the Department is undertaking pursuant to the President Trump’s Memorandum of January 20, 2025,” which suspended all federal approvals for wind energy projects and ordered a comprehensive review of existing wind energy projects.

The agency specifically mentioned concerns related to “protection of national security interests of the United States and prevention of interference with reasonable uses of the exclusive economic zone, the high seas, and the territorial seas.”

Revolution Wind holds fully approved permits, including its Construction and Operations Plan approval letter received on November 17, 2023, following a nine-year review process. The project has secured 20-year power purchase agreements to deliver 400 MW of electricity to Rhode Island and 304 MW to Connecticut, with the capacity to power over 350,000 homes.

The company noted that South Fork Wind, an adjacent project using identical turbine technology, “delivered reliable energy to New York at a capacity factor of 53% for the first half of 2025, on par with the state’s baseload power sources.”

This development follows similar action against Equinor’s Empire Wind project, which faced a temporary stoppage earlier this year. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum had cited “concerns about the previous administration’s approval process” for that suspension.

While Empire Wind’s stoppage was eventually lifted after a month, the interruption had significant financial consequences. Equinor reported “a significant impairment of $763 million related to its Empire Wind 1 offshore wind project and South Brooklyn Marine Terminal development” in its second quarter 2025 financial results.

Ørsted is now “evaluating the potential financial implications of this development” and will “advise the market on the potential impact of the order” on its recently announced plan to conduct a rights issue.

The company emphasized that Revolution Wind has already created hundreds of local union jobs, contributing to “approximately 4 million labour union hours to date” across Ørsted’s U.S. offshore wind projects, with 2 million hours specifically from Revolution Wind.

Revolution Wind has 60 days to file an appeal if it chooses to contest the determination.

Poland could ban naturalization of Ukrainian Nazi sympathizers

The country’s citizenship law should reject the ideology of Stepan Bandera, President Karol Nawrocki has said

Polish President Karol Nawrocki wants to amend the country’s citizenship law to say that the naturalization of Ukrainian nationalists is undesirable.

Warsaw and Kiev have long been involved in a dispute over crimes committed by nationalists during World War II and their lionization in modern Ukraine.

During a press conference on Monday, Nawrocki weighed in on recently-adopted changes to the citizenship law, and said his office was working on additional amendments. He said the law should include the slogan “stop Banderism,”referring to the ideology of Nazi collaborator Stepan Bandera.

The Ukrainian nationalist movement committed mass atrocities during the war, including mass killings of ethnic Poles.Modern Ukraine treats Bandera and his followers as national heroes, which has poisoned Kiev’s relationship with Warsaw for decades.

The president said Poland and Ukraine can only have normal relations “on the foundation of truth” and suggested thatWarsaw should outlaw Banderite symbols, equating them with banned Nazi and Communist iconography.

His other proposals include tougher penalties for illegal border crossings. Nawrocki said the changes would help Warsaw and Kiev fight “Russian propaganda” and benefit “honest, hard-working Ukrainian citizens who live within the Polish system, fulfill their obligations, work hard, and are treated equally to those who do not fulfill such obligations.”

Hey anons just want to say thank you regarding my post last thread about skin cancer fears on my toenail. A few weeks ago a friend dropped something on my toe, can't remember what it was (it was at a farm party and I had been smoking, can't drink). You guys calmed be down and talked reason and joked with me and it brought me out of my anxiety spiral. I do think its just a bruise thing and I feel mentally a lot better. The SPHEREx images show 3I/ATLAS as a point source with no dust coma or tail. The observations reveal a cloud of carbon dioxide (CO2) around 3I/ATLAS out to distances of at least 348,000 kilometers, corresponding to a mass loss rate of about 70 kilograms per second.

These icy fragments evaporate in the sunlight and create the spherically symmetric CO2 cloud around 3I/ATLAS, as observed by SPHEREx.

The modest level of CO2 mass loss amounts to the ablation of a millimeter thick layer from the surface of a 46-kilometer object over a period of 10 years.

In other words, a relatively thin outer layer is sufficient to maintain the observed cloud of CO2 gas around 3I/ATLAS. What lies under this outer skin remains unknown.

A way to resolve the discrepancy between the mass reservoir of rocky material in interstellar space and the unexpected discovery of a large object that measures tens of kilometers in diameter, is that 3I/ATLAS was not drawn from a population of rocks on a random trajectory but instead — its trajectory was designed to target the inner Solar system.

This possibility is consistent with the alignment of this trajectory with the orbital plane of the planets around the Sun, a coincidence of a part in 500 for a random occurrence (as discussed here).

Given the puzzling characteristics of 3I/ATLAS, we should use all telescopes at our disposal on Earth and in space to observe it (as discussed here).

As the Sun turns on the heat on 3I/ATLAS in the coming months, it could reveal its true nature. Ecclesiastes was not aware of interstellar objects when he argued that “there is nothing new under the sun.”
