UK Emergency Alert on 7th Sept
A national emergency alert test will be conducted across the UK on Sunday, 7 September 2025, at approximately 3 PM BST.
Mobile phones and tablets connected to 4G and 5G networks will receive a test message, triggering a loud siren sound and vibration lasting up to 10 seconds.
The alert will clearly state it is a test and that no action is required.
Test Details: The test is a routine check of the UK's Emergency Alerts system to ensure it functions correctly during life-threatening emergencies.
It marks the second national test, following the first in 2023.
Alert Content: The message will read: "This is a test of Emergency Alerts, a UK government service that will warn you if there’s a life-threatening emergency nearby. You do not need to take any action. In a real emergency, follow the instructions in the alert to keep yourself and others safe. Find simple and effective advice on how to prepare for emergencies at gov.uk/prepare. Visit gov.uk/alerts for more information or to view this message in Welsh."
Public Awareness: National Highways has been displaying warning messages on motorway overhead gantries since 27 August 2025, including "PHONE ALERT TEST – 7 SEP" and "MOBILE PHONE ALERT TEST 7 SEPT", with more specific messages ("PHONE ALERT TEST – 3PM") to be shown on the day itself.
The government has also run a public information campaign, including a video in British Sign Language.
Opting Out: Users can disable the alerts through their phone settings, though the government advises keeping them on for safety, especially for vulnerable individuals like victims of domestic abuse, who can find specific guidance on how to opt out.
