Masked guards pull a blindfolded prisoner to his feet from a face-down position on the floor. He is marched into a corner, where Israeli soldiers have formed a barrier with riot shields, blocking the man from the view of a nearby security camera. He is surrounded and, as military guard dogs bark, there is movement from behind the shields.

It is not exactly clear from the leaked footage what is happening, but the Palestinian man – a suspected terrorist – was later admitted to hospital with severe injuries to his ribs and rectum. The video of the abuse at the Sde Teiman detention facility was first aired last year by Israel’s Channel 12 and led to an investigation.

However, before the inquiry could take its course, the leaked video prompted a backlash from politicians on the Right, including those close to Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel’s prime minister, who dismissed accusations against the guards as a “blood libel”.

After rumbling on for more than a year, the scandal reignited last week when Maj Gen Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi, the IDF’s chief legal officer, admitted to leaking the video.

She resigned from her post on Friday after making the admission. On Monday, authorities said that she had been arrested after disappearing for several hours on Sunday, leading to speculation over a possible suicide attempt.

Concerns over political influence on IDF On Sunday, Mr Netanyahu characterised the fallout from the leaked video as “perhaps the most severe propaganda attack against the State of Israel” in its history.

Israel Katz, the defence minister, said that anyone who fabricates “blood libels against Israeli soldiers was unworthy of donning IDF uniform”.

The incident in the southern Negev Desert has exposed, in the view of opponents to the current government, the creeping politicisation of the IDF. Maj Gen Tomer-Yerushalmi appeared to be a model servant of the state.

Only the second woman to rise to the position, in 2021 she was appointed chief military advocate – effectively the IDF’s top lawyer. However, the 51-year-old mother of three is now under investigation over the leak.

She had previously submitted an official statement to the High Court of Justice claiming she could not locate the source of the leak. If leaking the video was sufficient to end her stellar legal career in the IDF, allegedly lying about it to Israel’s top court could be enough to land her in jail.

She is due to be questioned by police this week over her actions, and after significant concerns for her welfare when her car was found abandoned near a cliff-topped beach near Tel Aviv, officials said she had been found “alive and well”.

Maj Gen Tomer-Yerushalmi’s rapid fall from grace has shocked Israel. But it is why she felt the need to leak the video in the first place that is driving the public row. The allegations of abuse at Sde Teiman against reservists from the IDF’s Unit 100, including a captain and a major, were already in the public domain before Channel 12 first broadcast the footage in Aug 2024.

The fact that the detainee was injured so grievously that he had to be admitted to a civilian hospital saw to that. With rumours of not just this incidentbut allegations of systematic abuse at Sde Teiman beginning to reach the international press, the Military Advocate General Office began an investigation, on Maj Gen Tomer-Yerushalmi’s orders.

It was the investigation into the IDF’s soldiers that first prompted backlash from senior figures within Israel’s government.

The abuse allegations after all were the last thing the government needed, with Israel’s international reputation tanking due to the brutality of the Gaza campaign and war crimes indictments for the prime minister in the offing.

Mr Katz, seen as both a Netanyahu yes-man but also personally ambitious, is already accused of holding up the sign-off of senior military appointments– most of which are traditionally beneath the purview of ministers – in an effort to ensure political loyalty among the high command.

At the same time,Yariv Levin, the justice minister, istrying to warn Gali Baharav-Miara, Israel’s attorney general, from any involvement in the fallout of the Tomer-Yerushalmi case.

It follows the significant public disquiet over the dismissal of Ronen Bar, the director ofShin Bet, Israel’s internal security agency, earlier this year after he launched an investigation into Qatari influence on Mr Netanyahu’s staff.

The worry is that while Israel has always had rumbustious politics, the neutrality of its professional military and security services, which have traditionally remained sacrosanct, is under threat.

A lawyer for one of the five military guards at Sde Teiman has now called for the prosecutions to be dropped, arguing that proliferation of the now notorious video means his client cannot get a fair trial. Whether or not that argument succeeds, Israel’s reputation as a country with the rule of law is once again in the dock.

Nigeria rejects ‘unilateral’ US military intervention

The African state’s government has warned that any foreign troop deployment on its soil without consent would be “diplomatically inappropriate”

Nigeria has rejected any unilateral US military intervention in fighting Islamist insurgents, declaring that external help must come with full respect for the West African country’s sovereignty.

Daniel Bwala, the spokesperson for Nigeria’s president, made the remarks on Sunday after US President Donald Trump said he ordered the Pentagon to prepare for potential troop deployments or airstrikes in Nigeria.

Trump on Saturday cited “record numbers” of Christians being killed in Nigeria and designated it a ‘Country of Particular Concern’. He threatened to cut all aid to the country unless the Nigerian government intervenes.

“If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet, just like the terrorist thugs attack our CHERISHED Christians!” Trump wrote on social media.

In a statement on Sunday, Nigerian President Bola Tinubu’s spokesperson said it “would not be diplomatically appropriate for the US to take unilateral action without engagement and consent” from Abuja.

“Nigeria remains a sovereign nation, and while collaboration with international partners in addressing insecurity is welcome, any form of intervention must respect our sovereignty,” Bwala added.

Africa’s most populous nation has grappled for years with insurgency linked to groups such as Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province.

Last month, US Congressman Riley Moore wrote to Secretary of State Marco Rubio calling for “immediate action to address the systematic persecution and slaughter of Christians in Nigeria.”

He asked Washington to designate the African country a ‘Country of Particular Concern’, calling it “the deadliest place in the world to be a Christian.”

Moore claimed that more than 7,000 Christians have been killed in Nigeria this year alone, with hundreds more kidnapped, tortured, or displaced by extremist groups.

Over 19,000 churches have been attacked and more than 50,000 people killed since 2009, he added.

Nigerian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa told RT that while the government understands Washington’s concern, “those that are being killed are not only Christians.”

“We are against the designation of Nigeria as a ‘Country of Particular Concern,’” he said, adding that Abuja is trying its “best to curtail the killing, not only stopping the killing of Christians, but stopping the killing” of Nigerians anywhere in the country.

Israel Charges Lebanon Is 'Dragging Feet' On Disarming Hezbollah, Threatens 'Deeper' Escalation

Israel’s Defense Minister Israel Katz threatened further escalation against Lebanon on Sunday, accusing the country’s President Joseph Aoun of "dragging his feet" and delaying the disarmament of Hezbollah.

"Hezbollah is playing with fire and the President of Lebanon is dragging his feet," Katz said in a social media post. "The Lebanese government's commitment to disarm Hezbollah and remove it from southern Lebanon must be carried out." He added: "The strictest enforcement will continue and will even deepen – we will not allow a threat to the residents of the north." Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also said during a cabinet session on Sunday that Tel Aviv "will not allow the Lebanon front to once again be a source of threat to Israel," saying additionally "We will do what is necessary to prevent that."

The latest threats came hours after an Israeli strike on south Lebanon’s Kfar Remman killed four people and injured several others. The Israeli army released a statement claiming the four were all members of Hezbollah’s elite Radwan Unit – including one who it said was a logistics officer.

"The terrorist facilitated the transfer of weapons and was involved in attempts to rehabilitate terrorist infrastructure of the Hezbollah terrorist organization… Three other terrorists from the Radwan Force in the Hezbollah terrorist organization were eliminated in the attack," it said.

The four killed in Kfar Remman were identified in Lebanese media as Mohammad Jawad Mustafa Jaber, Abdallah Khalil, Hadi Hamid, Mohammad Kahil. The strike brings the toll of Lebanese people killed by Israel since the start of last month up to at least 34.

One person was killed and others were injured in an Israeli strike on the southern Lebanese town of Kunin on October 31. A day earlier, an Israeli ground force stormed the Lebanese town of Blida and executed a municipal worker as he was asleep in Blida's municipal building.

Following the attack, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun instructed army chief Rudolphe Haikal to have the Lebanese Army confront any Israeli incursion into the south "in defense of Lebanese land and the safety of citizens." Israel has escalated its strikes on Lebanon significantly over the past few weeks.

US and China to reopen military hotlines – Hegseth

The US and China have agreed to reopen top-level military-to-military channels following a recent bilateral meeting of their top brass in Malaysia, according to War Secretary Pete Hegseth.

The communications are a key de-escalation mechanism that Beijing cut in 2022 after a formal visit to Taiwan, a self-governed region viewed by Beijing as an inseparable part of China, by then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Late last year, under the administration of then-President Joe Biden, the two sides resumed military dialogue regarding the Indo-Pacific region, but broader channels remained severed.

Hegseth met with Defense Minister Admiral Dong Jun at the ASEAN summit in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday, just days after US President Donald Trump and his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, sealed a trade deal that diffused weeks of tension amid a trade war flare-up.

“Admiral Dong and I… agreed that we should set up military-to-military channels to deconflict and deescalate any problems that arise,” Hegseth wrote on X on Sunday.

“We have more meetings on that coming soon,” he added.

However, just a day earlier, at the ASEAN meeting, Hegseth urged Beijing’s neighbors to strengthen their maritime forces to counter what he called “the threats we all face from China's aggression.”

He accused Beijing of “illegal activities” in the South China Sea, which Beijing claims as its sovereign waters, and which is the subject of a number of overlapping claims by its neighbors.

Dong hailed his talks with Hegseth as “successful,” in a statement cited by Xinhua news agency.

He also expressed hope that Washington will honor its commitment to not try to “contain” China or pursue conflict, as well as to take a clear stance against “Taiwan independence,” Xinhua cited.

While the US officially adheres to the One-China policy, it continues military cooperation with Taiwan and supplies the island with arms.

General Mills, Nestlé, Coca-Cola and other ultraprocessed food companies launched Americans for Ingredient Transparency to appear transparent while secretly protecting their products from scrutiny. The group actively blocks state-level food safety laws and undermines the Make America Healthy Again coalition’s efforts to improve the quality of the U.S. food supply.

Ultraprocessed food and agribusiness companies have launched a new organization, Americans for Ingredient Transparency (AFIT), to counteract efforts by the “Make America Healthy Again” (MAHA) coalition and others to improve the quality of America’s food supply.

AFIT is funded by large ultraprocessed food and beverage companies, including General Mills, Kraft Heinz, Nestlé, Tyson Foods, Coca-Cola and PepsiCo, and more than a dozen food industry trade associations.

These companies appear to be using the deceptively named AFIT not to promote transparency but rather to federally preempt tough new state-level food safety laws.

Their main purpose seems to be product defense for unhealthy ultraprocessed food and many of its unsafe artificial additives.

The suspicious activity report from 2019, released to the public under judicial order, flagged more than 4,700 transactions totaling over $1 billion. These transactions linked Epstein to heavy-hitters like Leon Black of Apollo Global Management, hedge fund heavyweight Glenn Dubin, lawyer Alan Dershowitz, and retailers mogul Leslie Wexner. The complexity and scale of financial activities raised serious red flags about money laundering and the financing of criminal enterprises.

JPMorgan did warn authorities. Yet, as reported by The Times last September, the bank kept moving Epstein’s money offshore and facilitating transactions, even those involving his sex trafficking victims, while key executives allegedly ignored the risks. People within JPMorgan repeatedly sounded the alarm, but no significant action was taken in time.

Leslie Wexner accused Epstein of looting “vast sums” from his trusts, where Epstein served as trustee for years. Transactions involving Leon Black included payments to women tied to Epstein, amounting to about $170 million. Epstein also played a role in brokering the sale of Dubin’s hedge fund to JPMorgan, collecting a $15 million fee, in addition to personal ties with Dubin’s family.

While none of these powerful associates face charges related to Epstein, the revelations demand accountability, especially as Congress now pressures JPMorgan’s CEO, Jamie Dimon, to testify about the bank’s complicity.

The documents illuminate Epstein’s deep ties to elite Silicon Valley figures too. Emails show efforts to recruit Google founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page as clients, with billions flowing through JPMorgan accounts under Epstein’s influence.

As Epstein’s death by suicide dominated headlines in 2019, an internal JPMorgan email even referenced a Times article on the event to senior executives, including Dimon himself.

Adding fuel to the fire, Republican Congressman Thomas Massie highlighted on X that efforts to hold those involved accountable face stiff resistance within the GOP. Despite securing enough votes to advance Epstein investigations, Massie was blocked by party leadership from bringing this critical issue before the House.

The sprawling financial network around Epstein remains one of the darkest corners of elite corruption. JPMorgan’s failure to act and the political cover-ups blocking justice only underscore the urgent need for greater transparency and accountability at the highest levels.

Officials say the strikes aren’t meant to destabilize Mexico’s government

The Trump administration has started planning for on-the-ground military and intelligence operations on Mexican soil to pursue drug cartels as part of what President Donald Trump has described as an “armed conflict” with narcotics trafficking organizations.

Personnel who would be involved in the operations from the Pentagon’s Joint Special Operations Command and the Central Intelligence Agency are already in “the early stages of training” for the missions, which two current U.S. officials described as not imminent, NBC News reported Monday.

Trump has designated the drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations.

The officials also said there are ongoing discussions within the administration on the size and scope of the missions, and no final decision has been made as to whether to authorize any of the planned operations, but if they get a green light, the JSOC personnel would operate under Title 50 of the United States Code, which provides a legal framework for covert intelligence operations.

If authorized, the planned missions would represent a significant escalation in Trump’s ongoing series of attacks against he has claimed to be drug cartel operations, which include at least 15 strikes against alleged drug smuggling boats in the Caribbean and western Pacific Ocean.

In September, the administration declared that the United States is formally engaged in an “armed conflict” with drug cartels that the president has labeled “unlawful combatants,” according to a notice to members of Congress.

The notice claimed cartels are “non-state armed groups” whose actions “constitute an armed attack against the United States” and are now engaged in a “non-international armed conflict” — or war with a non-state actor.

Asked last month why he won’t seek permission from Congress for his military campaign taking aim at South American regimes he claims are fueling a drug epidemic in the United States, Trump said his government is “just going to kill people” instead.

“I don’t think we're going to necessarily ask for a declaration of war. I think we’re just going to kill people that are bringing drugs into our country, OK? We’re going to kill them,” Trump said during a White House roundtable with administration officials.

“They’re going to be, like, dead, OK,” he said.

Ukrainian special forces struck two logistics facilities used by Russian troops in occupied Luhansk Oblast overnight on 3 November, according to the Special Operations Forces (SSO).

The shared footage suggests that the SSO has used medium-range FP-2 drones, carrying 105 kg of explosives. Separately, Ukraine’s SBU security service released footage of its own drone strikes on Russian positions and logistics points in occupied territory, using the same FP-2s.

Amid the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian war, Ukraine has been using long-range drones for several years. These drones are capable of covering distances from several hundred to over 1,000 km.

Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces said their units conducted strikes on two Russian military logistics targets in occupied Luhansk Oblast in the early hours of 3 November.

One of the strikes reportedly hit a fuel unloading point near the town of Dovzhansk approximately 150 km behind the lines. The SSO's footage shows a strike on a fuel train at the facility.

Another SOF strike reportedly destroyed a supply warehouse near the village of Rozkishne, Luhansk's southern suburb, around 90 km from the frontline.

The military didn't mention the type of the drones used in both strikes. However, the released footage shows a first-person view and interface consistent with FP-2 drones.

The FP-2 is a medium-range kamikaze drone capable of flying up to 200 km and carrying a 105 kg warhead. The drone features a first-person view camera, and videos of its strikes look similar to small FPV drone footage.

This drone type is known to be also used by Ukraine’s SBU, military intelligence agency HUR, and the Ukrainian Army's Unmanned Systems Forces.

Developed by Fire Point, the FP-2 is based on the company’s long-range FP-1 model, which can fly up to 1,400 km but carries a lighter payload.

The Ukrainian military stated that the successful strikes “created a fuel shortage and disrupted enemy logistics within the Russian ‘Center’ force grouping.”

SBU releases drone strike video from occupied territories

On the same day, Ukraine’s SBU security service released its own video footage showing drone attacks against Russian-used buildings in occupied territory. The agency did not specify the locations of the strikes.

According to the SBU, its Alpha unit carried out “a series of precise attacks” on Russian military positions and logistics infrastructure using FP-2 drones. The targeted sites included areas used for gathering vehicles and personnel involved in enemy logistics and troop distribution.

The SBU noted that the strikes were executed during the night and credited the drone’s explosive payload with ensuring the operation’s effectiveness. The agency emphasized that the targeted structures were critical to Russia’s operational planning and movement.

Ukraine’s military units are competing with each other by launching deadly drone attacks to earn points that can be used to buy more weapons.

The video game-style rewards system is proving to be very popular, Ukraine’s first deputy prime minister said, with hundreds of units participating.

Launched a year ago, it is now being expanded to reconnaissance, artillery and logistics operations, according to reports.

“It’s become truly popular among units,” deputy prime minister Mykhailo Fedorov told The Guardian.

“All the defence forces know about this and there’s competition for the points, for getting these drones, electronic warfare systems and other things to help them in warfighting.

“The more infantry you kill, the more drones you get to kill more infantry. This is becoming kind of a self-reinforcing cycle.”

Soldiers who launch successful strikes win points that can be exchanged to buy more weapons in an “Amazon-for-war” online shop called Brave1, including drones and autonomous vehicles.

At least 400 drone units are using the “Army of Drones Bonus System”, which killed or wounded 18,000 Russian soldiers in September, the newspaper reported.

This was double the number from last October, after Ukraine’s government doubled the rewards for killing Russian infantry from six to 12 points.

Drones and autonomous vehicles can be bought from the online marketplace with “e-points”, which are awarded to units for the verified destruction of enemy equipment or personnel.

A Kolibri 7 UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) was the cheapest drone that could be bought with points, going for 13,410 Ukrainian Hryvnia (UAH), the equivalent of £242.87.

The most expensive, the MACUVA BpAK, was on sale for 41,506,466 UAH, or approximately £751,724.73.

Mr Fedorov said that the decision to apply a points-based system to Russian casualties was one of many ways Ukraine was trying to be “more effective”.

“We’re at war for four years in a row, and it is hard,” he said. “We’re just finding ways to be more effective. We’re thinking of this as just part of our everyday job.

There’s little to no emotional reflection here. It feels like just technical work.

“Because if you don’t stop the enemy, he will kill your servicemen and after the servicemen are dead, he’s going to come to a city and he’s going to conquer, raze and kill civilians.”

He warned that Russia appears to be developing its own gamified system, citing Ukrainian intelligence sources.

Drones have become a key weapon for both Kyiv and Moscow.

Russia has drastically increased its drone strikes this year; the summer saw an increase in frequency of intense overnight strikes in a move experts told The Independent was meant to induce panic in Ukraine’s population.

Kyiv faced a wave of 818 drones and missiles in an overnight attack on 7 September, one of the largest of the war so far.

More than 41K Wisconsin voter registrations don't match driver, ID database, state data shows

A judge ruled state regulators must check voter registration information with state identification database to ensure the voter rolls are accurate.

An increasing number of Wisconsin voter registration information does not match information from the state’s Department of Transportation.

There are more than 41,000 voter registrations in the state without matching Department of Transportation records such as drivers licenses or identification cards, a number that is nearly double the total from 2020, according to Wisconsin Election Commission data acquired by the Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty.

The data is required by the Help America Vote Act but WILL was denied further information from the databases to verify what the specific discrepancies were.

They include 11,174 registrations without a driver’s license number, up from 4,885 in 2020 and 24,733 cases where a name does not fully match WisDOT information, up from 15,260 in 2020.

“We’re not in any way saying that these 40,000 votes were fraudulent votes,” Lucas Vebber, deputy counsel for the WILL, told The Center Square. “We don’t know that. We don’t even know if these 40,000 names were even voters in the election. We know that they’re on the voter registration list and it’s certainly likely, of course, that some of them voted.

“But we don’t know because we don’t know who voted and we don’t know what all the discrepancies are. It could be something innocuous, it could be something more serious. But our point in the letter is just saying this is serious enough that questions need to be answered and we need a little more transparency here from the government.”

WILL sent a follow-up letter to the U.S. Department of Justice on the issue after urging the department earlier this fall to take a deeper look at the issue.

A Waukesha County judge ruled in an unrelated case earlier this month that the WEC must check voter registration information with state identification information to ensure the voter rolls are accurate but a stay was placed on that ruling until the results of a hearing scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Friday.

The WEC data showed that the name and date of birth don’t match on 680 registrations, just the date of birth doesn’t match on 3,110 and there were no WisDOT matches found for 2,069 registrations.

WILL has urged the WEC to explain why it has different processed to vet online voter registration information than hand-written forms.

Netanyahu won’t OK terrorists’ passage into Hamas-controlled area

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ruled out on Monday the safe movement of some 200 Palestinian terrorists from the Yellow Zone in Gaza, under the control of the Israel Defense Forces, to the territory ruled by Hamas, Channel 12 News reported.

This came on the back of an earlier report that Israel green-lit their safe passage under the condition they lay down their arms.

“The IDF chief of staff’s position is that these terrorists should be eliminated. Allowing their passage unarmed—only in exchange for the fallen hostages held [in Gaza],” Channel 12 cited anonymous senior IDF officials as saying.

Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich responded to the initial report on X, calling the move “complete madness” and appealing to the premier to prevent it.

Former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett also reacted to the news, saying that “IDF soldiers managed to capture dozens of terrorists in tunnels in the Rafah area.

Our dear soldiers are closing in on them. Their choice is to surrender or die. These are terrorists with blood on their hands.

“Some of them probably attacked Israel on Oct. 7, [2023]; others recently murdered three of our dear sons,” Bennett added, referring to IDF Master Sgt. (res.) Yona Efraim Feldbaum, Maj. Yaniv Kula and Staff Sgt. Itay Yavetz, who were killed in October in the southern Gaza Strip.

An Israeli security source told Channel 12 News on Monday that Israel has agreed to allow their passage “to protect the lives of our soldiers and to disarm [the terrorists] on their own ground. That way we’ll also be able to search for additional hostages.”

A second official said, “The moment they agree to lay down their weapons and to move unarmed, they are no longer classified as terrorists.”

Also on Monday, the IDF said that several terrorists were identified crossing the Yellow Line toward Israeli troops in the southern Strip.

The military “from the air and the ground eliminated the militants” to remove the threat they posed to the troops, the military said.

“IDF Southern Command forces are deployed in the area in accordance with the ceasefire agreement framework and will continue to act to remove any immediate threat,” the army added.

On Sunday, Al Jazeera reported that Hamas via mediators had asked Jerusalem to permit the passage of hundreds of terrorists isolated in underground tunnels and other pockets in Gaza that are surrounded by Israeli forces.

According to the ceasefire terms, the IDF withdrew to a designated area that runs north, center and south through the Gaza Strip. Thus, some 53% of the Palestinian territory is in Israel’s control, where many terrorists are believed to still be in hiding.

The terrorist group later on Sunday handed over to Israel the bodies of three deceased hostages.

The IDF and the Prime Minister’s Office confirmed their identities on Monday morning. The remains were those of Col. Asaf Hamami, Capt. Omer Maxim Neutra and Sgt. Oz Daniel.

Terrorists still hold the bodies of eight hostages in the Gaza Strip.

They belong to six Israelis—Israeli-American dual national Staff Sgt. Itay Chen, Meny Godard, Lt. Hadar Goldin (whose remains were taken in 2014), Sgt. Maj. Ran Gvili, Dror Or and Israeli-Argentinean dual national Lior Rudaeff—Tanzanian agricultural intern Joshua Mollel and Thai agricultural worker Sudthisak Rinthalak.

Hamas is required to return all of the captives—living and deceased—as part of the U.S.-backed ceasefire agreement.

The leak of a video allegedly showing Israeli soldiers sexually abusing a Palestinian prisoner is the “most serious public relations attack against Israel,” Benjamin Netanyahu has said.

The footage, filmed at the Sde Teiman base near the Gaza border, showed soldiers leading a blindfolded detainee away and surrounding him with riot shields as they allegedly carried out the abuse.

Leaked to Israel’s Channel 12, it aired in August 2024 and caused an uproar.

The detainee was later treated for a ruptured bowel, severe anal and lung injuries, and broken ribs.

Five reservists were initially probed for rape, but their charges were later downgraded to “severe abuse,” according to a February indictment. All denied the charges, and the trial is ongoing.

The scandal reignited on Friday after the Israel Defense Force’s (IDF) top military lawyer, Maj. Gen. Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi, admitted that she had approved the video’s release and resigned from her post.

At a cabinet meeting on Sunday, Netanyahu decried the scandal, saying the leak “caused enormous reputational damage to Israel, to the IDF, and to our soldiers.”

“It is perhaps the most serious public relations attack Israel has experienced since its founding – I cannot recall one so concentrated and intense,” Netanyahu said, as cited by The Times of Israel, and called for “an independent and impartial inquiry.”

The leak followed the arrest of the reservists accused of abuse, which sparked right-wing riots demanding their release.

British drone strike hits terrorists in Syria

A Royal Air Force remotely piloted aircraft conducted an airstrike near Aleppo on 4 September 2025, the Ministry of Defence confirmed.

The operation formed part of Operation Shader, the UK’s ongoing contribution to the global coalition against Daesh in Iraq and Syria.

According to the MoD, the drone’s crew identified a known Daesh terrorist entering a vehicle during a reconnaissance patrol.

After tracking the target and confirming that no civilians were at risk, the aircraft carried out a precision strike that destroyed the vehicle and killed the individual.

Operation Shader is the UK’s contribution to the international campaign against the so-called Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.

The operation involves surveillance and air missions to support partner nations in maintaining regional security and preventing the group’s resurgence.

The strike was carried out by an RAF Reaper drone, which formally retired from service later in September 2025 after 18 years of operations.

First entering UK service in 2007, Reaper aircraft flew more than 173,000 hours in missions across Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria.

The platform is now being replaced by the MQ-9B Protector RG Mk1, which offers longer endurance, improved sensors and weapons, and the ability to operate within civilian airspace.
