The USAF wants a deployable auto-cannon that can hit all 5 levels of drones. This to me means you need 50mm to reach high and far enough. But 50mm limits the magazine depth unless we add 20 ft ISO containers full of ammo attached via chutes.

The U.S. Air Force is exploring a ground-based, medium-caliber cannon capable of defending its overseas bases against everything from small drones to Group 5 unmanned aircraft and subsonic cruise missiles.
The request emphasizes magazine depth, raid handling, cost per engagement, transportability, integrated sensors and compatibility with existing command-and-control systems. In other words, the Air Force wants something that can engage numerous relatively inexpensive threats without exhausting a handful of extremely expensive missiles.
In this video, we examine what the Air Force is asking industry to provide, why sprawling and increasingly dispersed air bases need new defenses, and how this prospective cannon could fit alongside electronic-warfare and directed-energy systems such as THOR, Mjolnir, X-MADIS and SUADS.

Digital employees’ are coming to the Defense Logistics Agency
Nearly 200 agentic-AI bots are already running autonomously as the combat support agency pushes ahead with AI-powered tools, CIO says.
The Defense Logistics Agency is piloting AI agents that work autonomously—bots that its CIO calls “digital employees.”
“This is a new frontier for everyone,” DLA chief information officer Adarryl Roberts told reporters at DLA’s Industry Collider Day on Sept. 9 in Alexandria, Va.
The move builds on DLA’s increasing use of robotic process automation, or RPA, and the generative AI tools available to its 25,000 or so military and civilian personnel. In 2025, bots saved DLA an estimated 300,000 hours of work—some working around the clock to help the combat support agency get everything from food and fuel to medical supplies and clothing where it needs to go.
“We have approximately 185 to 190 bots that are running. I’d say about 90% to 95% of those are unattended bots,” Roberts said. “So, we really cracked the nut to have those unattended. Now, we’re moving from the bots to, ‘How can we have agentic agents working across [the department], based upon our data? So, we’re early in that journey.”
