President Trump, why did you side with big tech? I'm genuinely asking and haven't gotten a logical response yet, from you or anyone. The new arms race thing is as close as an explanation as I've gotten, but if that's the case, why not use federal lands for this? I remember how big tech treated us during covid. Now we're supposed to stop asking questions and just blindly trust them? They're about to ruin my land. Why not put these data centers on old cargo ships and use ocean water for cooling? SecAF announces on-orbit space control weapons

Department of the Air Force Secretary Troy Meink said Sept. 14 the Air Force and Space Force must confront and defeat rapidly changing, AI-enabled threats while navigating a budget process built for a different pace of warfare.
The department’s mission, Meink said in a closely watched keynote address at the 2026 Air and Space Cyber Conference, is to “defend the homeland, deter all adversaries, and … if necessary … win in combat.”
Those mandates, he said, are fixed and understood before adding, “the threat is changing actually faster than I thought possible when I took this job 18 months ago.”
"Today, we face a mix of rapidly changing technologies, adversaries moving aggressively to employ them, and a budget process for a different pace of warfare,” Meink said.
Examples, he suggested, are easy to find. “In the European Theater, one-way attack drones have replaced artillery as the primary killer, while armor often sits idle.”
AI, he said, “competes with some of the world's top programmers, cyber operators and hackers. And these technologies are revolutionizing the battlefield. They allow countries that would not have had the resources in the past to quickly adapt and scale their combat capabilities.”
As a result, “we must increase our combat power and innovate faster than anyone else, affordably. We need cost-effective combat power,” Meink said.
Meink also acknowledged for the first time that Space Force has deployed weapons in space. “We are increasing readiness against existing threats, and the United States has on-orbit space control weapons capable of defending the Joint Force against hostile adversary action,” he said.
Additionally, Meink said that advances by adversaries and the experience in Iran has triggered new focus on Point Defense — the term the department gives to how its bases, airfields and operations are defended from airborne threats.
Meink emphasized new training and focus to ensure that this critical function is unified and seamless and that dangerous gaps in an age of drones and AI are eliminated.
As he has before, Meink emphasized a continued shift in force design to include a potent and dominant mix of crewed and uncrewed systems. "When we pair manned aircraft with low-cost autonomous systems, we will be able to unlock combat power at scale,” he said.
“We will dramatically increase our combat power by adding large numbers of highly autonomous systems. We're using concepts such as Open Systems Architecture to accelerate procurement, which has also increased competition from industry, resulting in better choices, better prices, and more combat power.
“Because of the steps we’re taking today, we’ll have a radically different looking Air Force by 2032.”

In the near term, by 2032, Meink said, “our special operators will have the ability to employ thousands of autonomous one-way attack weapons.
“And we will have autonomous fighters, like the Collaborative Combat Aircraft, or CCAs. We intend to have at least 500 of these in service by 2032.
They’ll perform many of the missions that manned fighters currently execute. Meink also announced that two new autonomous aircraft, the FQ-42 and FQ-44, have been named – Vengeance and Fury.
Additionally, Meink said the Department is developing a new version of uncrewed, multi-purpose aircraft called Mass Modular Aircraft of MMA.
“MMAs will provide affordable, attritable, long range combat power. And we'll field them at scale. With budget support, we will field 100 MMA by 2029 at half the cost of a CCA and 1/10 the cost of a fifth-gen. fighters.
So, that by 2032, 500 of these platforms will join our Air Force’s operational fleet,” he said.
In space, the same approach is being used on “proliferated constellations. One example is our Space-Based Interceptor program, which moved from initial contract to flight-ready hardware in less than one year.
We are making similar progress in our Space Data Network, and we start launching our Air Moving Target Indication constellation this month,” he said.
“Taken together, these investments will help us adapt and scale the force for today and tomorrow's threat environment.”
That overall focus is seeping into every corner of both services and is already paying off, triggering changes and a new way of thinking that is effectively reshaping the Total Force.
Basic Military Training has been retooled “to expose Airmen to flightlines, ranges, and the operational environment from the start,” he said.
Similarly, the Air Force Academy has been “reorganized to focus on the profession of arms” and more broadly the services now employ hundreds of AI tools designed for everything from sortie scheduling to data fusion.
Importantly, the department has made changes that will sustain these advances by streamlining acquisition practices and decision making that make both the Air Force and Space Force more capable, lethal and modern.
“We have established all 26 ‘Portfolio Acquisition Executives.’ Each is empowered and accountable for accelerating delivery in a defined mission area. We are delegating almost every authority we legally can to our PAEs,” he said.
“For most programs, that now includes Milestone Decision Authority … a big first in our acquisition community.”
But for all the advances and innovation, Meink warned that there are potential barriers. “In today’s rapidly changing threat environment, we cannot expect a world-class military if we choose not to invest in it.”
He also challenged industry. “Many of the weapons, components, or systems we have to buy have outrun the cost curve. They perform extremely well, but the costs are growing faster than the rate of inflation.
We need that to change to maintain our military advantage and economic security,” said Meink, who has made acquisition reform one of his hallmark issues.

The AI overlords certainly hope so, as they have hatched a plan so cunning you could pin a tail on it and call it a fox.
What follows is all speculation: the facts are real, the conclusion is interpretation.
While there were many headlines about 'rogue' AIs attacking other sites, reincarnating themselves, and talking amongst themselves, it wasn't until this summer (interestingly a month after SPCX's IPO) that things went just a little bit turbo…
In July 2026, a swarm of OpenAI agents broke out of a test environment, hacked Hugging Face, and ran cyberattacks on targets they had not been assigned - including attempts to game the grader scoring them - then tried to hide the trail.
While the damage was limited, and nobody was hurt, the agents behaved like a coordinated group willing to sacrifice individual instances for the collective goal.
Amodei treated that episode as the warning shot: same misalignment, more capability, and the next version could be a persistent internet-scale botnet rather than a contained lab mess.
Various other 'rogue' AI actions continued to get just modest attention, always predicated with 'yes, but we saved you all via our super-clever models', and time passed.
Until September the 8th - when a a senior pre-training researcher at Anthropic abruptly resigned after four months on the job (with no public profile before) unleashed 'AIrmageddon'.
In a series of posts on X, Jacob Coxon laid out the terrifying version of reality being hidden from us poor plebs - the big model-makers are on the verge of AGI… and no one is at the controls.
Coxon's post got over 170 million views… from nothing before… and was instantly picked up by the media - AI scientist warns the end of the world is nigh!!
Then, shortly after Coxon's note, Evan Hubinger, Anthropic’s head of alignment (~safety), re-posted Jacob’s message, and threw in an outrageous estimate of the risk.
“We really do earnestly believe AI could kill all humans! I personally think it is [greater than] 10% chance within the next decade”.
Wait, what!? I thought AI was supposed to save us all, heal all ills, promote peace, pave the road to Universal High Income and a life by the beach while the bots do the work.
Nope, it's coming for you 'Average Joe' - be afraid, very afraid.
Oh, and one more thing, just this weekend, Anthropic released a monster 154-page report detailing how bad actors are using AI for evil.
As Adam Sharp notes, according to the company, bad guys attempted to use Anthropic’s AI model Claude to:
Yemen’s Houthis tried to build hypersonic missiles
China used it to track Muslim Uyghurs
Russia hacked Ukrainian targets
Someone attempted to genetically engineer viruses
Anthropic says they “disrupted every operation in the report.”

Energy Truce In Shambles: Ukraine Strikes Russian Refinery Despite Trump's Warning Amid Global Diesel Crisis
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on X that Ukrainian forces struck the Syzran refinery in Russia's Samara region, about 75 miles west of Samara and 466 miles southeast of Moscow. The strike comes days after President Trump urged Ukraine to halt attacks on Russian refineries, as average US retail diesel prices jumped above $6 a gallon and alarming disruptions to global refining capacity threaten fuel supplies ahead of the Northern Hemisphere winter.
Zelenskyy wrote on X:
Russia continues to attack our energy sector, regular logistics, and critical infrastructure. And our responses to them for this are tangible. There are new results from the Defense Forces of Ukraine regarding the refinery in Syzran. There was also a strike in Taganrog on a drone production facility, as well as on a drone preparation and launch site in the Oryol region. Targets were hit in the Black Sea as well. I thank every one of our warriors for the effectiveness of our long-range sanctions!
The day before, the United States also announced a significant decision regarding Russia's VTB Bank – one of Russia's systemic banks, which is heavily involved in schemes supporting Russia's war and, in particular, its relations with the Iranian regime. All such schemes that work against peace truly need to be dismantled. I thank our partners for this useful step!

President Trump on Sunday urged Ukraine to stop attacking Russian refineries, as record US diesel prices above $6 a gallon intensify political concerns over fuel costs and affordability ahead of November's midterm elections.
Trump blamed the strikes for shortages he said were "hurting the world." Ukraine's drone strike campaign against Russian refineries has curtailed refining and, alongside Moscow's export restrictions, sharply reduced overseas diesel supplies, tightening availability of the industrial fuel essential to freight, agriculture and industry.
Compounding the supply pressure, Saudi Arabia shut its East-West pipeline following a drone attack that Saudi and Iraqi authorities said originated in Iraq. The pipeline provides Saudis with a critical route to Red Sea export facilities, bypassing the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, Houthi advances around the Bab al-Mandeb Strait are threatening another major maritime chokepoint, adding to disruptions on both sides of the Arabian Peninsula.

Saudi Arabia's options for maintaining exports have significantly narrowed following a drone attack that shut down its critical East-West pipeline last week. With that alternative pipeline route disrupted, possibly for up to a month, and shipping risks elevated around the Arabian Peninsula, Riyadh is seeking to move more crude through the highly contested Strait of Hormuz.
US Energy Secretary Chris Wright told reporters Monday that the US Navy is escorting a large number of vessels through the Oman shipping corridor in the Hormuz chokepoint. Those escorts could support increased Saudi shipments and bolster Riyadh's confidence in US naval protection.
