- Public companies that are major investors and partners (Microsoft, Amazon, Nvidia, Alphabet) would face equity write-downs of their stakes plus reduced cloud/chip demand.
- Infrastructure spending (data centers, GPUs) priced into public markets at high growth rates would slow, pressuring Nvidia, the hyperscalers, and related names.
- Broad AI-sector sentiment and tech valuations (especially Magnificent 7 / Nasdaq) would likely re-rate.
- Future IPOs could transfer remaining risk into public indices and retail portfolios.
Overall
Retail and ordinary public-market portfolios are well insulated from direct equity wipeouts. Public markets would still experience diluted but meaningful second-order effects through the large public tech names and infrastructure demand, without the full systemic force of a broadly held public-company failure.
