US ‘Aggressively’ Building Trump’s Border Wall, DHS Chief Says
The acting secretary of Homeland Security pushed back on the narrative that President Donald Trump’s border wall is not being built, pointing out that construction has actually been going at an aggressive pace.
“So normally for a federal project of this scope, from the time you get funded to starting, it’s over two years,” Kevin McAleenan said Tuesday on Fox News. “We’ve already built the 2017 funding in less than two years. That shows how aggressively we’re moving out on this.”
McAleenan — who became acting DHS secretary earlier in April after Kirstjen Nielsen resigned — has been tapped by the Trump administration to lead the agency at a time when the U.S. southern border is experiencing record numbers of illegal migrants, many of them Central American families.
Trump has been forced to fight tooth-and-nail with congressional Democrats over border wall funding. The federal government experienced its longest shutdown in U.S. history as the two camps fought over how much money could be appropriated for wall construction. The White House is being sued after it declared a national emergency on the southern border, allowing it to allocate billions more in funding.
The new DHS leader said more military troops are needed to help alleviate the crisis.
“They helped us repel two attempts by a caravan to enter the United States by helping us fortify ports of entry,” he said to host Dana Perino, adding that their presence has helped free up border agents to enforce immigration laws. “They’re going to be helping us build the wall, too.”
McAleenan called for an overhaul of the country’s immigration laws, but cited two areas specifically that are in dire need of reform. Homeland Security agents, he argued, need to be able to detain migrant families together and also have ability to repatriate migrant children from noncontiguous countries.
The requests closely mirrored what former DHS secretary Nielsen asked of Congress in March. The since-axed secretary sent a letter to lawmakers asking them for legislative fixes that would address a number of issues that have contributed to the immigration crisis. Namely, current immigration laws are not well-equipped to handle the massive number of family units from noncontiguous countries, which has resulted in overcrowded detention centers across the country.

Prayer Request For Nunes, Trump Rightly Declares Him A Hero
Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., is receiving death threats on a daily basis.
A report Thursday from Your Central Valley, which covers news in Fresno, Calif., said Nunes is one of a few lawmakers who contend with such a regular danger.
"We take strong precautions, one of the concerns we have is not necessarily me, but people who attend the event that I'm at, and that's the biggest challenge right now," Nunes said.
Nunes' office did not immediately return a request for comment about whether they have notified House leadership or the House Sergeant at Arms about the death threats.
The interview comes days after the San Luis Obispo Tribune, another news outlet in Nunes' district, reported Nunes is attending a local Republican Party fundraiser for which invitations with an "unusual" message are being sent out.

The Fresno Bee reported recently the Fresno Republican Party had to reschedule a dinner event in April, where Nunes was set to be the keynote speaker, due to a social media fracas over his $250 million defamation lawsuit against Twitterthat also targeted some of its users, including parody account "Devin Nunes' Cow."
Nunes told Your Central Valley he won't be so easily deterred. "If you've slandered me, and people know who you are, they know their fake stories that they wrote," Nunes said. "Maybe some people stand for it, but I'm not going to stand for it."
Nunes, a nine-term congressman who is the ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee, recently put together eight criminal referrals as part of an investigation into origins of the Trump-Russia investigation.

It also touches on the “Wolfpack,” an “online gang” committed to harassing Feldman. “They produce YouTube videos with titles like ‘You Lowlife Feldman You Have Gone Too Far This Time,’” writes Rolling Stone, “and send out tweets saying, ‘If longing to see @Corey_Feldman get gang raped in prison is wrong, I don’t want to be right,’ and ‘I personally will never stop until CF is in prison or mental institution at best.’” Feldman believes they are mobilized by Corey Haim’s mother, Judy, who claims that Feldman is “desperately trying to destroy my son’s history, his image, his memory.”

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump denied on Thursday that he had ordered then-White House counsel Don McGahn to fire Special Counsel Robert Mueller from the Russia investigation, moving to undermine McGahn’s credibility ahead of a possible congressional testimony.
Trump’s move appears to be part of an effort by the White House to push back on attempts by congressional Democrats to pursue investigations related to Mueller’s probe into Russian election interference in 2016 and possible obstruction of justice by Trump.
“As has been incorrectly reported by the Fake News Media, I never told then White House Counsel Don McGahn to fire Robert Mueller, even though I had the legal right to do so. If I wanted to fire Mueller, I didn’t need McGahn to do it, I could have done it myself,” Trump wrote on Twitter.
A redacted version of Mueller’s report released last week mentioned conversations in June 2017, when Trump called McGahn to tell him he should direct Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who was overseeing the special counsel’s probe, to remove Mueller because of conflicts of interest.
The report cited “McGahn’s clear recollection” that the president directed him to tell Rosenstein that “Mueller has to go.” McGahn did not carry out Trump’s order, the report said.
Trump also tried unsuccessfully to get McGahn to dispute media reports that the president had attempted to fire Mueller, the report said.
Mueller’s report uncovered numerous links between the Trump campaign and the Russian government, and described how Trump tried to impede the Russia investigation.
But it said there was not enough evidence to establish that the Trump campaign engaged in a criminal conspiracy with Moscow, and did not reach a conclusion on whether Trump committed the crime of obstruction of justice.

A lawyer for McGahn declined to comment on Trump’s tweet.
Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani has repeatedly attacked McGahn’s veracity since the report’s release.

“NNSA and other [federal] agencies have critical national security support studies that JASON is performing or scheduled to perfom this year,” the notice explains, “and a gap in coverage … could be harmful to the completion of these studies.”
The new contract, to be awarded in June, would run through 31 January 2020. “During that timeframe,” the notice says, “NNSA will perform market research to determine a long-term strategy for obtaining JASON scientific support services.”

The U.S. economy is off to its best start to a year since 2015 and White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow says Federal Reserve should still add stimulus by cutting interest rates.
GDP grew by 3.2% in the first quarter, which Kudlow called “a blow out number.” He said the current economy is in a “prosperity cycle” that “is gaining momentum, not losing momentum”
“The inflation rate continues to slip lower and lower,” Kudlow told CNBC’s “Squawk on the Street” on Friday. “Even according to the Fed’s own spokespeople, from the chairman on down, that could open the door to a target rate reduction.”
Kudlow, director of President Donald Trump’s National Economic Council, said the argument for cutting interest rates was coming by the Fed’s own metrics.
“We are clicking on all cylinders, the inflation rate is coming down, the Federal Reserve will be looking at that,” Kudlow said.
Kudlow has advocated this view ever since Fed Chairman Jerome Powell said at the central bank’s March meeting that no rate cuts would be necessary this year. Both Kudlow and Trump have been outspoken that they think the Fed should stop shrinking its balance sheet and cut rates.

I've dug deap on vaccines and I'd say that we need to consider the realities. NOTHING marketed for profit by big pharma is GOOD for us. I'd argue that the two "vaccines" I'm a bit open minded about are actually more like "antidotes" than "vaccines". Blue State Blues: Republicans Cannot Win If ‘Ballot Harvesting’ Remains Legal
California Republicans are determined to take back the four congressional seats they lost in Orange County in 2018, among the seven the party lost statewide.
They have some political momentum, as Nancy Pelosi’s Democrats have proven incapable of doing anything except arguing about impeaching President Donald Trump.
Unfortunately, the tactic of “ballot harvesting,” introduced last November, has made it impossible for Republicans ever to win again.
“Ballot harvesting” involves using a third party, such as a well-trained political activist, to collect mail-in ballots on behalf of other voters and deliver them to the polls.
There is no vetting of ballot harvesters, and no limit to how many ballots they can deliver.
The tactic was legalized by then-Gov. Jerry Brown in 2016, over GOP objections. Hundreds of thousands of ballots were dropped off at polling places in 2018, making a difference in key races.
Democrats argue that ballot harvesting is necessary to ensure equal access to the polls — just like other innovations, such as early voting and same-day voter registration. They say that anything that makes it marginally harder to vote is undemocratic.
Democrats also accuse Republicans of trying to “suppress” the vote by pushing for safeguards to prevent fraudulent voting, such as requiring photo ID to vote or striking felons and non-citizens from voters’ rolls.
It is worth noting that what Democrats are doing in California, which they want to export nationwide, is virtually unknown in the rest of the world.
The international norm for democracy is in-person voting, with photo ID, and registration well in advance. Absentee voting tends to be restricted, and mail-in voting is rare.
Democrats, who like citing international practice on issues like health care, reject international standards when it comes to voting itself.
I personally observed elections in South Africa, just a few years after the end of apartheid, where the right to vote was considered especially precious by the country’s black population. Voters were still required to register to vote weeks in advance, and had to bring their government-issued photo ID to their polling places.
No one thought such practices “racist”; quite the opposite, since they protected black voting rights by ensuring the integrity of the vote.
Republicans, who believe fervently in American exceptionalism, want American elections to look like that — not because they want to follow the world’s example, but because that is closer to what our elections used to look like (and still do, in some states).
Democrats are, in effect, arguing for a new type of democracy — one that requires no effort from the voters, where elections are no longer a participatory process, but a mass recording of preferences.
Defeated Republicans and frustrated Republican voters have urged their party to compete with Democrats: “If one party’s harvesting ballots, both parties need to do it,” ousted Rep. Jeff Denham told the San Francisco Chronicle.
But there is a cultural difference between the parties. Democrat voters — especially newly-registered ones — might willingly hand their ballots to a stranger. But Republicans refuse to do so, even when approached by Republicans.
“When you go to a Republican household and ask for their ballot, you know what you get on the other side? You get the sound of a 12-gauge shotgun being clicked back and forth,” Republican National Committeeman Shawn Steel told Breitbart News Tonight this week, describing the party’s experiments with ballot harvesting in a recent special election.
The irony is by taking their right to vote seriously, Republican voters are being disenfranchised.
A democracy cannot function if there is such a wide gulf in ideas about what democracy actually is, and how it should work. But there is almost no remedy, because Democrats hold a supermajority in both houses of the state legislature, and ballot harvesting virtually ensures perpetual one-party rule.
The courts are the only option — and the liberal Ninth Circuit is presiding over a case in which Democrats are challenging an Arizona law banning the tactic.
Given the political bias of that appellate court, the only recourse may be the U.S. Supreme Court itself, which may not hear the case in time for the 2020 elections.
If Republicans are serious about competing in Orange County, among other places, they need to act with urgency. The U.S. Department of Justice should intervene in the Arizona case, and sue California for violating the voting rights of its citizens. French UN ambassador Francois Delattre was scathing of the decision to exclude the reference to sexual health, saying it undermined the dignity of women.
"It is intolerable and incomprehensible that the Security Council is incapable of acknowledging that women and girls who suffered from sexual violence in conflict, and who obviously didn't choose to become pregnant, should have the right to terminate their pregnancy," he said.
The removed phrase read: "Recognizing the importance of providing timely assistance to survivors of sexual violence, urges United Nations entities and donors to provide non-discriminatory and comprehensive health services, in line with Resolution 2106."
This line was thought to be a compromise from an earlier version, which included a more detailed description of the health services, "including sexual and reproductive health, psychosocial, legal, and livelihood support".
This language had been used before in previous resolutions related to sexual violence, US media report.
