You can be a good little drone, having nothing to hide. Many people are now increasingly using Tor but it's not in itself illegal to use it unless you live in somewhere like Russia, also you forget that bridges do exist to obfuscate traffic and hide that you're using tor in the first place using unlisted guard nodes or ones that you added yourself from a trusted source. Hell even snowflake proxies which anyone can basically run in their browser exist as well.
Unless you have a global threat actor to consider hiding yourself from who owns enough of the network to do sophisticated timing attacks in order to de-anonymize you that being extremely unlikely being 1 in a million chance.
VPNs and Tor are useful for those who need the protection or just want to get past any censorship/restrictions in their own country, it's likely you don't live somewhere with a more regulated internet but for those that do this is basically all they have.
