If you are in Canada, say "I invoke right to silence" and say "no comment" again and again if the police talk to you.
If you are in the USA, say "I invoke the 5th amendment" and say "no comment again and again if police wants to talk to you.
You really need to treat them like adversaries to defend against their social engineering attempts. You need a mindset that if they are nice to you, they are trying to poison your drink, gather DNA from you etc. etc.
The only way to win against them is to have bankrupt morals and play dirty just like them. Read their investigator handbooks to think like them. "Blue wall of silence, 36 stratagems, 3 dark triads etc."
