Chapter 14
Reposting the few first pages from the old thread
Cg14pg1
{Lower left side of the page} Ouch ow ow ow ouch, burning in the hallway
TN: "you have to be this japanese…" the title has musical notes in it, so I suppose it's a reference or a pun involving a song. I guess we can translate this literally, maybe leave the musical notes as a clue.

>So…
>hot…

Men take up chastity as a manly responsibility, I can see that. But what about the men that eschew this social pressure and take money for sex, like in the original comic? They'd be pretty much self employed 100% of the time, wouldn't they? There wouldn't be much risk or intimidation.

You don't really need an entomologist, wikipedia is a link away.
Also termites are quite taxonomically distant to ants way above the class rank (Blattodea, Hymenoptera). Blattodea belong to the Dictyoptera superclass (along with Mantises) that in turn might group with other primitive insects, like grasshoppers and crickets, stick insects and earwigs, previously classified as "Hemimetabola" (Greek for half-changed, referring to not undergoing radical metamorphosis between nymph and adult stages).
Hymenoptera are among the most highly evolved classes of insects that along with the Coleoptera (Beetles), Lepidoptera (moths and butterflies), Diptera (flies, midges, mosquitos) and other advanced insects, like fleas and flying scorpions, comprise the Whole-o-metabola, insects that would never guess what they looked like babies.

> Ants and termites are as closely related as Humans and Gliding lemurs or rabbits are.
By taxonomic rank it's even further. Rabbits, rodents, treeshrews and especially gliding lemurs are the closest relatives of Primates, and all belong in the same superorder or infraclass (Euarchonta and Euarchontoglires). Flying lemurs are to humans what mantises are to termites. Termites are to ants what kangaroos are to great apes (including humans).

The more I think about it, I dunno if she would go that far. The one we are watching is trying to be careful, and I don't know how much they have in common as far as their nature goes. Maybe she just keeps committing weird social faux pas everywhere, like stripping in class, wearing towels into the bath, and staring at shirtless guys.

panel 1
I'd adjust the writing on the right to make it match the writing on the left like this:
>そういえば当たり前すぎて気にしてなかったけどプールじゃ男子上脱いでたな…
"Come to think of it, while I naturally thought it was an obvious thing to do, the boys were shirtless at the pool…."
For the writing on the left:
>じゃあ確かに何のために今男子は上着を脱ぐどころか着崩しすらしないのよ?
Breaking it up: "Then really (じゃあ確かに) for what purpose right now (何のために今) are the boys, never mind removing their shirts, (男子は上着を脱ぐどころか) not even loosening their clothes? (着崩しすらしないのよ?)"
Cleaning that up: "If that's so, then why won't they go shirtless now, or at least loosen their clothing?"
panel 2
>…まあ元の世界で暑いんだからスク水で授業うけろよーとか男子が言い出したらうるさいスケベとか死ねとか言い返すだろうしな…
"…Actually, in my world, (…まあ元の世界で) if the boys said something like 'It's hot so let's all have class in our swimsuits' (暑いんだからスク水で授業うけろよーとか男子が言い出したら) we'd reply with 'shut up pervert' or 'die'…. (うるさいスケベとか死ねとか言い返すだろうしな…)"
>羞恥心とはいかに常識と状況によって作られている幻想であるのか…
"Maybe (であるのか…) what we call 'shame' (羞恥心とは) is an illusion created from (作られている幻想) common sense and the current situation… (いかに常識と状況によって)
That comes off pretty wordy but it's meant to directly contrast how Ishikawa actually feels in the next page.

Since guys are still stronger than girls and still did the fighting throughout history, they're probably okay with going out alone (they're still prudes though). Maybe female rapists are on the rise now that people can get tasers and other nonlethal weapons.

It looks like men do most labor jobs, just like in this world. Only sexual morals are reversed, so I'd assume rape accusations are handled the same, only reversed (crazed women perverts are hunting innocent pure men! The horror!).

I made a grammatical error in my suggestion for panel 3: since it's "male doctors" it should be "a woman showing her breasts to them" instead. Alternatively it could go
"A male doctor would understand this too, so he didn't think a woman showing her breasts to him was a pervert…."

How do fetishes work in the world of moral reversal?
If the male tries to assfuck the female and she refuses it, would she be a lesbo?
>destroy her asshole
>she can't ask you to stop because it hurts
>she has to keep her femininity and endure the pain
>if she still asks you to stop you can keep going and say "be a girl"

You're assuming dudes are allowed to be tops. Your scenario would likely end up with crushed nuts.
The chapter with the fujos show that guys are mainly bottoms and fetishes like tittyfucking are unheard of. Unless the grill is a sub in the same manner some dudes are into femdom I think it's safe top say your scenario would be as unlikely as a grill pussy-polishing a guy's back in ours.

This post is like a real life version of the insect societies speech.
>Unless the grill is a sub in the same manner some dudes are into femdom
So basically I either go for a 40 year old creep or I'd have to find an unkempt girl who shlicks all day long to anime and has a room that smells like stale juices. But then I'd have to inquire her about her fetishes while remaining a pure manden because a few perverts still don't like maledom. Sounds troubling.
What do world of moral reversal boys talk about? clit sizes? I know 3DPD women talk about dicks fairly often, the conversation just rarely escapes to someone of the opposite gender.

Ch15pg5

ビチビチ = sound of the expulsion of soft matter mixed with water; diarrhea, etc. sounds; watery?
メンタル = mental. (TN: I can't think of how this loan word is any different to the American useage. Then again, Americans use this word without really knowing its meaning too so…)
無駄に = pointlessly, futilily, uselessly,
乙女 = little girl, virgin
のまま = as
無駄に乙女のまま = obstinately the same girly (thing) as before, "stupidly, this part is still the same", "for some reason, (x) is still girly (like before) (TN: this could use some work)

>Yeah, in the daytime we go see which trees have sap coming out of them, then we go check them again at night.
>That way, when the Rhinoceros and Stag beetles rustle around…
=3==========
>But if checking for sap is a pain then we could get some fruit dipped in alcohol…
<I have lots of apples at home right now too!
>NO WAIT wait wait!
>In what kind of sad circumstance would three women end up collecting Rhinoceros beetles!?
Vocabulary
カブトムシ = Rhinoceros beetle, aka Trypoxylus dichotomus
採集 = collecting, gathering, sometimes 'hunting'
そうすると = that way (if (N. subj.) do that), if (subj.) (action) then (good thing) (future outcome)
カブトムシや、クワガタが、ガサコソと・・・ = that way, kabuto-mushis or kuwagatas can gasagoso (rustle/funny sneaky sound), rhyimg words that make her look silly.
浸す = immersed, soak, dip, steep, moisten, wet, dunk
酒 = sake, alcohol.
TN: Sake is shorthand for alcohol in standard Japanese, but since English came along they also use the word alcohol commonly in some places, so it's still hard for me to tell which she means by this. I could look it up for kuwagata beetles but i don't care.
何が悲しくて…xらなきゃいけないのよ! = lit. what is sad, what sad circumstance, what sadness caused x to have to happen.
TN: I'm not 100% confident on this line either tbh since it seems ungrammatical to me.
Ch15pg7
=1==========
>why?
>Because isn't it just fun to catch Rhinoceros beetles and Stag beetles?
>ARE YOU A GUY!?
TN: yes, guy, not gay. fyi
=2==========
>Well, I guess catching Rhinoceros beetles is a hobby popular with men that could lead to dating after all
>But does that mean that women should be going out and doing it alone?
>Wouldn't that just be sad?
=3==========
>To thing you would suggest that without a hint of ulterior motive…
>I guess that's what makes Ichikawa popular with the guys
>She's different like this
=4==========
>Huh? Is collecting Rhinoceros beetles a hobby that makes you popular with men?
<Yeah… nah… It probably is popular among guys, but that's not…
Vocabulary
男ウケのいいモテる趣味ではあるのよね = lit. [men like well] [popular (sexually) hobby] [it is] [isn't it], it is indeed a hobby popular with men and could lead to us becoming popular
下心 = Secret intention, ulterior motive, lit. below/lower/lesser heart/soul
男にモテるだけのことはある = that's what makes (N.) so popular with men
xにyだけのことはある = x is what makes y so
こういう所が違うのね = lit. this place is different, she's different in places like this.
TN: I think place should be hiragana or a more difficult kanji. I'm not sure about this but I think it was from American influence that people started using "place" as in 'location' rather than the native Japanese word maybe in the 70s but I could be confused with another word. Some words like this also used to have slightly different pronounciation before primary education was a thing and everyone got fixed into a writing based way of speaking.

>regarding lack of ? in nip text
Japanese uses the particle か to indicate questions. They have also adopted the question mark ? as a way to convey tone, but it's not strictly necessary.
>elipses mid dialogue
Japanese sentence structuring is a lot different than most western languages. Sometimes when structuring a translated sequence, we have to change teh order in which words come up
>まあ
may also be interpreted as "you see" in an embarassed way, so it could be "nah… you see…"
>dropping ?
Nips tend to ask a lot of rethorical questions. It's even a cultural thing, to not be too assertive. So in some cases a sentence structured as a question can be interpreted as an affirmative.

>Pg7,
>Panel 1, Bubble 3.
this is a question. the ? and ! reflect the tone in jap, obviously question mark isnt a japanese character so they dk how to use it! its called a hatena mark which means "i wonder now", so the tendency is to only use it in situations where you would say "hmmm i wonder", and thus is used less in cases like this. that also explains why they love '!?' so much, which is strictly speakign ungrammatical in english
>panel 2, bubble 2 and no "?" in original text
の is short for のか and か is basically like the jap question mark. as common as it's being short for it is that の has become a question mark in its own right and accordingly is used slightly differently
>bubble 3
でしょ means "isnt that right?" thus the '?'
>panel 3, bubble 1 has the ellipses mid dialogue and not at the end
see >>82442
>panel 4, floating text starts "・・・いや・・・まあ" which would be denial first, but then admittance. "…Nah …Well maybe (explanation)" but it does sound somewhat better.
in addition to what >>82442 said i'll just add that it's not how they said that you aim to translate, it's what WOULD they say if they were speaking english or the star treck AI was translating what they said. you can translate completely faithful or beautiful, but never both. sometimes neither is the best option.
>Pg8
>Panel 1, bubble 1 drops the "?"
<^^
also note that a previous post noted a mistranslation here. it should read:
>It could be an excuse to bring a guy into an unpopulated forest at night.
feel free to adapt to what was just discussed if you must have a '?'

no, game is my translation of Nampa
it originaly means to visit or stop at a port and now means "to hit on" or "the act of flirting, often with a woman, in order to take her home".
1. seducer; smooth talker; ladies' man; playboy; playgirl
2. picking up women; hitting on womenUsually written using kana alone, Colloquialism, See also 逆ナン, usu. written as ナンパ
7. Nanpa, also transliterated as nampa, in Japanese culture is a type of flirting and seduction popular among teenagers and people in their twenties and thirties. When Japanese women pursue men in a fashion similar to nanpa, it is called gyakunan
this was so obvious i wouldn't even include it in a vocabulary, but adding -shi to nampa, is designating the individual as a master of such a thing, and masters of flirting do we have the anglosphere? afaik the most famous are the "gamers" who game women into having sex with them. ik the use of game is slightly separate to this but if I was worried so much about that I would have just written nampa master and made a TN about it.
There was also comment suggesting to translate her name as "Crotch Sap-sensei" which i think is uncalled for and didn't use but perfectly valid since its close to the literal meaning and she probably wont come up in future chapters at all. But then, wouldn't we feel stupid if she did?

The "mountain" thing is referring to forests around the base of the mountain- basically hiking. It's shortened to just "mountain" because Japanese people often contrast it to the sea when it comes to going somewhere for summer vacation- much like "going to the sea", where they just mean the beach instead of renting a glass-bottomed boat or something.
The omake relies on this distinction because Kanzaki asks about going to the (nearby) forests outside town instead of bothering to go out to the (farther, mosquito-less) ones by the mountains.

Chapter 16
16-01
{Left margin, title} Never mind the low-profile classmate
=1==========
>Urisugi has been absent for two days, due to health issues.
>Apparently he has been hospitalized
>And won't be coming to the school for a while.
>Well, I'll take your attendance now…
=3==========
<…absent for two days?
<I didn't even notice.
16-03
=1==========
>So this Urisugi is in the hospital….
>But who is that person in the first place?
=2==========
>Come on Kanzaki, at least remember the faces of your classmates.
>Erm… I guess he left a weak impression…
=3==========
<Geez, I also didn't notice, even though it has been two days.
<Talk about having a weak presence…
=4==========
>Hey, if this were an eroge, in a group with the "orthodox hot guy", the "cute hot guy", and the
"beefy hot guy"
>He would be like the "variety character" who blends right in.
>AAH, that guy! I got it now!
>DON'T COMPARE YOUR CLASSMATES TO EROGE
CHARACTERS!
TN: I tried and I tried, but I didn't get the reference.
Maybe "色物キャラ" has another meaning that I'm not
picking up
11-04
=1==========
>Wait… You don't see that as a compliment?
>HOW SO!?
=2==========
>We might be calling him "Variety", but
>There would be no point in it if he was an ugly character
in the first place.
>Despite his flaws, he has to have the looks to be a
"catchable" character in an eroge.
=3==========
>See, unlike the "orthodox hot guy", the "variety hot
guy" has this way about him…
>And when it's time to take your pick, he's quite nice!
>Some other things too, are not that unusual about him…

16-02 panel 4
>He would be like the "variety character" who blends right in.
TN: 色物キャラ are the extra-weird types. As an example, Street Fighter has "standard" types like Ryu and Ken, somewhat unusual types like Zangief and E. Honda, and really wild designs like Dhalsim and Blanka. The last type is 色物キャラ. It's got a negative connotation, but not to the point you would use a truly negative term (like "freak") so maybe something like "weirdo".
<He would be like the "weirdo character" who blends right in.
11-04 panel 3
>Some other things too, are not that unusual about him…
"or some such (なんてことも) isn't unusual, after all… (珍しくはないわけだし…)"
なんてこと is referring to her previous bubble, as if she were putting it in quotes.

Now that you mention it, I think you brought 色物キャラ up before, but I can't remember the occasion. I won't forget it again.
Also, this manga is still by far the hardest one to translate. Good practice, but more tiring for sure.
16-05
=1==========
>I'm telling you, to be described as an eroge character is a good thing.
>If a woman's reaction to a man is "If I could do him, I would totally want to!", then that's the greatest compliment she can give!
>Uh… really, are you serious?
=2==========
>Right… If you asked me wether I would also do him if I could…
>I would totally do him!
*Is that the impression you got from the person whose face you couldn't even remember a moment ago?
=3==========
*Let's fire up the "male intuition" again…
*Well… Men could pay for sex with any unknown woman in a brothel, so…
>That kind of talk should be natural… I suppose?
16-06
=1==========
>And you Ichikawa?
>What do you think of Urisugi?
=2==========
>Nah… Funny you ask…
*…I have never even spoken to him before…
=3==========
*The most we've ever interacted was in my original world…
*When, in a rental store, our eyes met when he came out of the adult section…
16-07
=2==========
>Well.. he is a boy after all.
>I'll just pretend I didn't see anything…
>Even if I brought it up, nothing good would come out of it anyway.
=3==========
[2days later]
<Let's see what's next.
16-08
=1==========
*I had to watch as he went and borrowed another erotic DVD. And that's all I can remember of him…
>That's some "funny you ask" for sure…
>What's with all that juicy erotic stuff you had that I didn't know of?
>Wha-!?
<Whaddya mean!?
=2==========
*CRAP! I think I just told them that story by accident!

16-05 panel 3
>*Let's fire up the "male intuition" again…
"…Seriously, (…まったく) male sexual intuiton (男の性的な感覚って) is really the lowest… (本当にサイテーね…)"
サイテー is 最低, or "the lowest", casually meaning "really bad/the worst". Also, まったく technically means "really" or "seriously" but has also become an expression of exasperation like "sheesh" or "ugh".
<Ugh, male sex instincts really are the worst…
16-08 panel 1
>What's with all that juicy erotic stuff you had that I didn't know of?
"Something like 'He's a pervert'(スケベだって事くらい) is the only thing I know [about him] (しか知らないわよ)"
<All I know is that he's a pervert.

>Depression and panic syndrome are usually the most common mental disorders, but those have different symptoms.
The use of パニック病 here is odd since the most common medical terms appear to be パニック障害 (panic disorder) and パニック発作 (panic attack). The closest thing an English-speaking doctor would say is probably "panic disorder", so I swapped that in.

The original line is やあ ("yaa"), which is just "Hi" or "Hey". Ichikawa's question about being needed is really only a polite thing to say, which is why the teacher and doctor simply ignore it. That can come off as strange in English, so turning it into a brief acknowledgement does make sense, but if it reads strangely, then replacing it with "Hey, it's been a while, Ichikawa-san" would work too.

Some groups make all text all-caps or use all-cap fonts. It's fine if you don't, but try keeping consistency. Sfx capitalization doesn't matter. The last page has the only dialogue that's not all-caps.

Dang, for some reason I keep reading some bubbles as bold or emphasized at glance, even though they aren't. Something about the spacing or the sans-serif kanji messes with my eyes maybe.
>make the outline less soft/more defined
That's mostly thanks to Free Software Quality(tm). The steps between stroke sizes at around 1-5 are too big so I sometimes try to tweak it with a drop shadow (which requires me to re-set like 5 different settings every time because they reset every time and the defaults are utterly fucked (and sometimes I need to do all of that twice when I forget that you can't move nor copypaste styles, and thus should put it on a group layer instead)), but the spread option of a drop shadow even at 100% won't make it hard edged. Also the drop shadow positioning doesn't work correctly at all which caused me to spend like 10 fucking minutes trying to figure out how to make the "pin pon" text look correct. It's this kind of stuff that previously made me leave typesetting to others, I'm too stubborn to install some botnet onto my computer but all of the free alternatives are complete shit.
>all text all-caps or use all-cap fonts
I considered this but I couldn't find a good font for mental monologue. I wanted it to be different from the main font but everything looked like a title or shouting or just worse than the one I ended up using.
And of course free software(tm) doesn't provide a button to change the text to uppercase, which makes it even harder to try fonts. Well, that's the least of the problems when it comes to trying or using fonts, but I'll try to refrain from ranting about these programs any more because I'd solo this thread into bumplimit.
Anyway here's a go at vertical text. I can't decide if it looks okay or not.

Originally it was supposed to be connected to the other bubble- the entire sentence was "But... I wonder, if that boy, with the same symptoms as me... is really coming to this world once he gets better...?"
If the change is made as suggested, the first half should be changed as well.

I was trying to say to avoid exactly that. Run the sentence along the side like >>71339
>That's mostly thanks to Free Software Quality(tm)
I never bother with (what I'm assuming you're using) GIMP when I first tried it and disliked it quick. That was years ago. Is outlining text built into the text tool?
I would've also wasted time trying to do the Pin-pon drop shadows on paintnet and probably not gotten it as nice. I don't know how much time it took just now to figure out a good way, but it was way more than 10 minutes. Ironically, it's mostly issues that a single step in size or blur changes it too much. It'd get really jagged/aliased, or too soft and blurry. Working with small images and text make tiny changes look obvious.
>It's this kind of stuff that previously made me leave typesetting to others, I'm too stubborn to install some botnet onto my computer but all of the free alternatives are complete shit.
The text editor I use in paintnet is from an add-on. It's pretty good (I don't know how it compares to tools in other programs) except that you have to put coordinates to it's position. It's fine at first, but when you need to reposition it several times for each bubble or when word-proofing something, it gets tedious and wastes time not being able to drag it around. And you can't simply select the text and change it, you need erase the text, open the tool and type it out again and, if the settings changed from the last time you used it, (the last settings are kept, thankfully) reselect them including coordinates. The add-on doesn't outline text, so I have to use an outline-object tool afterwards too.
Going back to fix several things gets tedious, so I got discouraged this time. I didn't realize most text this chapter was inside bubbles.
>And of course free software(tm) doesn't provide a button to change the text to uppercase
I'm not aware of any editor in general that does that. Did you try the caps-lock button?
Anyway

I'd replace it with "original", but otherwise I agree with this guy.

On 17-06, there's one minor error that was mistakenly let through proofreading. The guy's name is Urisugi, not Uesugi.
For reference, check the furigana on the raw page at >>101451 (うりすぎ).
Much less important, on 17-19, it would read better if Kawashima thinks "I've never even been on a date with a boy before..." instead of "in".

If there's nothing else then here's all the pages. I still don't know what to do with the credits page but I added another option, pick which ever.

Chaika was a good option. The others aren't bad either, though.

Will they keep releasing free chapters in their website? Was vol.01 used as free publicity for vol.02?

When a new chapter comes out it'll show up in the translation thread >>113205 and get posted there too. Otherwise it's at mangadex.
