I think you have the right general idea, but don't rest on your laurels. Look up many different resources for gesture drawing and observe a lot of gestures from other artists.

interesting Response.

what would you guys say are the most obvious weaknesses in my artwork.

Maybe it is hard to say since i didnt specify what my Goal is.

Also one unrelated question:

Is there an fiction writing board or a board for webcomics that arent trash or porn?

You should focus less on what you perceive your weaknesses to be and more on taking measured steps to general improvement. Saying you're bad at this or that specific thing would be redundant because from what you've shown you need to improve in pretty much every way. Don't take that as an insult, rather as an opportunity.

All art fields are way more competitive now thanks to the modern Internet. Back in the day there was at least the illusion that you had more potential than you really did.

A friend and I are working on a KND dating sim/trainer, right now we've no artfags at all it's just me and him and we're gonna make it in Ren'Py most likely.

Could anyone possibly give me a simple "sprite" for lack of a better word of Numbuh 86 simply standing, with 3 different facial expressions, them being neutral, angry, and happy

If anyone is able to do it, could it please be in an Artstyle similar to pic related, what's a WEG without an attractive artstyle, right?

Currently, we have many ideas and concepts in place, but we are still in the planning stage and getting things together. But right now, we are trying to get what we need to start laying the ground work for the game, and would appreciate any little bit of help we can get even if it is just basic assets.

INKTOBER 2016 STARTING OCTOBER 1ST! GRAB YOUR PENS ANONS!

http://mrjakeparker.com/ ( http://inktober.com/ )

Inktober rules:

1) Make a drawing in ink (you can do a pencil under-drawing if you want).

2) Post it online

3) Hashtag it with #inktober and #inktober2016

4) Repeat

Note: you can do it daily, or go the half-marathon route and post every other day, or just do the 5K and post once a week. What ever you decide, just be consistent with it. INKtober is about growing and improving and forming positive habits, so the more you’re consistent the better.

That's it! Now go make something beautiful.

I dunno what to draw!?

Consult the 2nd pic!

What tools should I use?!

First off: how do I learn color theory, shading, and all that? My anatomy is wonky, but that takes practice; I want to learn coloring first, then emotions, then learn gestures, and finally anatomy.

Until then, though… who do I commission/request, and would it be possible for them to record their process? I'm a furry btw, but feel free to mention anime/etc artists, although mention that they're anime/etc artists.

This is pretty much the exact opposite of how it's done tbh

As far as who to commission that's on you; you just search up people on deviantart, Patreon or the like and find someone whose style you like.

Study physics. Learn how modern ray-tracing rendering algorithms work. Read a bit about how human vision works (hint: differences in lightness/darkness stand out far more than differences in only color).

That will get you 90% of the way there.

Hey /loomis/

Got How To Draw by Scott Robertson and I was shopping around for ellipse templates. Why are these things so expensive? Aren't they just a printed sheet of plastic, like a ruler with holes punched out?

Shops were wanting close to 200 maplebux for a set of ten, used they were still over 100.

Does anyone here have a set? How much did you pay, in case they're cheaper in other countries?

Maybe we should adopt the /kpop/ strategy of just having a single thread. Once it hit bump limit, we start a new one. That way we maximize the overboard potential of what few posts we have everyday. We already mostly post in 2-3 threads. Just consolidate it into 1 if until we actually get enough users.

If only. People would rather split the community into 17 different boards than come together into one place that encompasses multiple related topics.

I've said this from the very beginning; we should gather together into a single board and use threads to organize different topics, and only make new boards if/when the single board starts to get too crowded for all the different interests. But no, everyone wants to be the owner of their own board and get people to go there.

Just draw a lot, man. You don't really need a set schedule but make sure you're drawing a couple hours a day. There are so many different subjects pertaining to art "art block" shouldn't be a problem. Keep in mind that professionals draw for at least 8 hours a day as part of their job and they probably drew nearly that much leading up to their employment.

Just going at it randomly doesn't seem very beneficial though, nor does it seem to be working for me. I imagine, much like working out the body, you need a proper upkeep routine to not only stay at your current level, but improve upon it.

For instance, you have a certain amount of time your work out your body. You may spend so much time working out your arms, so many reps, and after that you move on. Then the next day you'll focus on your legs and have a whole routine for them. I need that but for art.

Hello there anons, newfag here. Didn't know we had a board like this here on quadro^2chan, but now that I do, I think I may frequent it since I do have a thing for drawing and painting.

On to the point of my thread: Before I even found this board I found this video art course on Steam: http://store.steampowered.com/app/494900/

However as I am a poorfag I never bought it, other things come first. I don't even know if it's good. So tell me, is it good and more importantly, do you have a free download link somewhere?

Cheers anons

You got me, I'll admit I forgot where the coracoid process was-but if one really doesn't know what the ASIS, a major landmark, is they really haven't been paying enough attention. You can learn this stuff to some degree in many different places, whether you're able to internalize it or not is on the individual I guess. I don't think anyone is questioning Richer or Goldfinder's credentials but I don't see how studying them would yield you greater understanding than Peck, for example. As long as the text is authoritative and the drawings or photographs are accurate that's what matters most.

I surmise that if most people don't know that stuff it's because they don't study enough period, not that they haven't been exposed to the proper information. Repetition is extremely important, just as Jeff Watts has said and I'm sure your own instructors have emphasized. Most people, myself included, just aren't putting in the work they should be.

Something I've often wondered, should I learn the names in Latin or in English?

Also, what is important about names beyond discussing anatomy with other artists? I'll bet a lot of people do know what the coracoid process is because it's easily noticeable on one's own body if you explore it often as one should, but of course don't know it by name. Couldn't someone know about anatomy without knowing the names? Sorry if I'm being completely retarded here.

I don't think most of them have english names, fam.

In my personal experience it is fairly difficult to recall an anatomical feature in detail without knowing its name. I don't think it's entirely uncommon for some illustration-focused artists to be able to portray superficial anatomy. Personally I couldn't tell you the name of many visible anatomical landmarks but for what little it's worth I know they're there.

If you want to fully understand something, knowing its name if it has one is a good first step.

Excuse me. I apologize as I am new here, I don't normally show up on any art boards. But I've been reading for a bit, I think I understand. I know people say start with the basics, and I know people say start in realism before you deviate from it.

I mean I'm willing to learn, but for a while I couldn't stand realism. As weird as that sounds. What I mean is I was…at one point what you would call a "fantasist" without saying too much, I will say this I spent some of my life in an artificial existence.. In other words my imagination. And I hated how certain people tried to get me to draw the way they wanted. As you can guess I liked them animus..a lot so I tried to draw a lot of those.

Lemme skip to my main point. I suppose if I am to learn to get gud I need to step out of my comfort zone is that correct?

Also can someone direct me to resources for an absolute beginner?

I apologize if I was rambling. I tend to do that sometimes. I just hope I was able to make enough coherent sense.

If this discussion is not exactly relevant to this board. I apologize as well. Thank you for reading this far.

Yes, and that's something I'm struggling with that myself.

Don't worry about it, bud

Your problem is that you're symbol drawing.

If you want to learn to draw well in any style, first you have to learn to draw realistically. There is no way around this. Behind every mangaka you admire are thousands of life drawings.

The stuff on https://www.8ch.net/loomis/hub.html is excellent, as the other anon mentioned. Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain is an excellent book to start with. Read it and practice every day, even just a little. You'll see results fast. Save any reference photos you like in a folder so you don't spend more time looking for shit to draw than drawing like I do. You ```can``` get good

>Realism

Stop saying this.

What is confusing this novice is that when people say they need to draw realistically, they understand it as just another stylistic approach rather what they should really be focusing on. To teach others, we need to eliminate these words from our vocabulary and emphasize basic understanding of forms, construction, and basic mark making skills.

You need to understand forms and basic construction to break symbol drawing. That is the essence of learning fundamental drawing.

Mirror the image, then fix it. Then repeat until it no longer looks weird when you mirror it. Also this happens to me often too, but I tend to draw things being kind of angled, you can see it easily after mirroring the image and it's easy to fix like pic related.

>Lemme skip to my main point. I suppose if I am to learn to get gud I need to step out of my comfort zone is that correct?

Yes and no. If your comfort zone is drawing anime without trying to understand the shapes you're drawing, then yes you will. That doesn't mean you'll have to start drawing skeletons and realistic old men and memorizing muscle names, but you should look at real life people and see how their anatomy works, and compare it to whatever you're drawing to get clues why it looks wrong.

Funny you say this now, what with the news of ICANN stealing the Daily Stormers domain name, there is a lot of fear and prepping going on for if and when 8ch is brought down. We could try creating a rallying bunker for the art related boards just in case.

Domain names are completely inconsequential. 8chan will only die if the hoster (i.e. Jim) drops us or the net itself gets censored. Cloudflare might cause problems, but in theory we can always use the hidden service (that will kill the user count though).

I've wanted to get good for as long as I can remember, but I keep dropping art randomly and taking long breaks. Sometimes it's just hard to force mysef to draw without getting the urge to an hero. I'm too alone, too lost in the journey of learning.

When I try to look for an art community, it's always people drawing porn and/or with minimal interaction.

How do I find people who truly want to get good? Like REALLY good, not just drawing fap material or cartoon memes. I feel so alone in imageboards. It seems I can only dream of a tightly knit group of artists who help each other and improve together and share thoughts and insights as they learn.

If you've got money to burn go ahead, just wouldn't expect any results staggering results tbh.

BO should email Hotwheels and Co. to tell them to advertise this board at the top for while, since I've noticed those advertised there get some traffic.

Didn't Hotwheels create 8ch before the exodus? I do agree that the gamergate censorship on both half /v/ & /pol/ led to 8ch's first significant infusion of users, but I thought the site was kicking around in obscurity for at least a half a year before it happened.

Wanted to thank you guys for helping me with technical drawings about a year ago.

With your help I passed my technical drawing module with distinction.

You guys are awesome, keep it up.

Yes it technically existed before the exodus but it probably had a couple dozen users, tops. None of the art boards even existed before the exodus, for example and because 99% of the people who draw here are loyal to specific-interests boards and not to "drawing" itself these boards have been more or less abandoned.
