The Hopi Indians have lived on the high desert of northern Arizona for thousands of years. This barren but beautiful landscape was the place where Hopi gods directed them to build a number villages made up of pueblos—what we today would call stone apartment complexes. The Ant People then escorted the Hopi into subterranean caves where they found refuge and sustenance.

"House Democrats hope to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment which would make discrimination against women illegal. The House will vote Thursday on a resolution they say would ratify the ERA.

Congress passed the ERA in 1972. It set a 10-year deadline for the amendment to be ratified by three-fourths of the states. Democrats argue the deadline was a date arbitrarily picked by Congress and states can’t rescind once they ratify.

But it’s unlikely that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell will allow that. The Justice Department is opposed and some Republicans say the ERA is really about abortion.

NCSU, which opened its Confucius Institute in 2007, hosted one of the largest Confucius Institutes in the United States. The Institute sponsored classes on campus for students and the public and has also served as the umbrella for four offshoots called “Confucius Classrooms” at two high schools and two other colleges in North Carolina. Its website boasts that over ten years, the Confucius Institute taught more than 30,000 students, saw 636,000 people attend its events, and trained 1,330 Chinese language teachers. Not a bad investment for the Chinese government’s cultural diplomacy.

But NCSU’s relationship with its Confucius Institute also became notorious. In 2009, the Institute pressured the university into disinviting the Dalai Lama. Despite the ensuing opprobrium, NCSU clung to its Confucius Institute.

Since then, NCSU has become strangely secretive. Two years ago, I went searching for the memoranda of understanding that the university signed with the Hanban (the Chinese government agency in charge of Confucius Institutes) and Nanjing Normal University to set up their Confucius Institute. NCSU claimed its signed memoranda were accessible and transparent, but its website linked to a university database open only to those with university email addresses. A professor there agreed to check the database for me, but even he could find nothing at all related to the Confucius Institute.

Gas Line Between Egypt and Israel Blown Up by Unidentified Attackers

Israel has reportedly been supplying natural gas to Egypt since late last year. The supply line was reportedly attacked late on Sunday in the Sinai Peninsula. There have been no reports on casualties yet.

According to Al Jazeera, the incident occurred late on Sunday in Egypt's Bir Al-Abd located in the northern Sinai area. The attackers reportedly remain unidentified as no militant or terrorist group has reportedly claimed the responsibility yet.

Netizens have shared alleged footage from the scene of the incident, blaming militants for the Sunday's attack.

Terrorists blew up these particular gas lines at least three times during the first six months of 2011 before Cairo suspended gas supplies to Tel Aviv, The Jerusalem Post said.

The new agreement on gas supplies between Egypt and Israel reportedly follows a $15 billion decade-long deal signed by Delek Drilling and Houston-based Noble Energy in February 2018 to supply 64 billion cubic meters (bcm) of natural gas to Egypt from the Leviathan and Tamar gas fields, located off Israel.

The Leviathan gas field, discovered in December 2010, is one of the largest young gas reserves in the world. According to the US Geological Survey, Leviathan’s volume of undiscovered reserves amounts to some 620 billion cubic meters of natural gas.

The Tamar gas field is located in Israel's exclusive economic zone, some 80 kilometers (50 miles) west of Haifa. It is considered to have proven reserves of 200 billion cubic meters.

Ukrainian ex-Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin has demanded that the State Bureau of Investigations (SBI) open criminal proceedings against former U.S. Vice President Joseph Biden for illegal influence on him as the prosecutor general of Ukraine.

“I ask you to register a criminal offense against me in the Unified Register of Pretrial Investigations by a U.S. citizen, Joseph Biden, which happened on the territory of Ukraine and abroad, namely, interference with the activities of a law enforcement officer, the responsibility for which is provided for in Part 2 of Article 343 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code. Immediately start a pretrial investigation and give written instructions to SBI investigators,” Shokin said in a statement to the acting SBI director delivered by Shokin’s lawyers.

Sinema unloads $33K from controversial donor

Congresswoman Kyrsten Sinema has quietly donated $33,800 to charity to erase her ties to Ed Buck, a prominent Democratic donor who has come under scrutiny after a male escort died of a drug overdose at his California home last year.

For Sinema, it is at least the second round of campaign cash cleansing in less than a year. In April, she donated to charity $53,400, the amount she received from those with ties to Backpage.com, a website that authorities say knowingly accepting ads offering sex with underage girls.

The latest problem involves the death of Gemmel Moore, a 26-year-old homeless man whom the Los Angeles Times described as a male escort who overdosed in Buck's West Hollywood apartment in July.

In November, Sinema's campaign gave $18,800 to UMOM New Day Center, a charity to help the homeless. At the same time, her Getting Stuff Done political-action committee also gave UMOM $15,000.

Breaking: Hunter Biden Ordered to Arkansas Court Next Week, Must Disclose Financial Information

Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden was ordered to Arkansas court next Wednesday to explain why he shouldn’t be held in contempt for violating court orders to reveal his financial information.

Hunter had a child with 28-year-old Lunden Roberts after meeting her at a DC strip joint where she worked as a stripper and she is in court demanding Hunter pay child support.

Ms. Roberts dragged Hunter Biden into a nasty court battle after he has ‘refused to pay child support for over a year’ and refused to pay her $11,000 legal bill.

Lunden Roberts told the court that Hunter Biden “had no involvement in the child’s life since the child’s birth, never interacted with the child, never parented the child,” and “could not identify the child out of a photo lineup.”

Hunter and his baby mama Lunden Roberts are due back in court on January 29 for a pre-trial hearing.

Hunter Biden must appear Jan. 29 in a Batesville courtroom and explain why he shouldn't be held in contempt for violating court orders to provide financial information in his Arkansas paternity case.

Independence County Circuit Judge Holly Meyer signed an "Order to Appear and Show Cause" on Monday, a day when Arkansas courts were closed to honor the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The judge's order was filed into the court record Tuesday.

The one-sentence order was prepared by Clinton and Jennifer Lancaster, attorneys for Lunden Alexis Roberts, the mother of Biden's 16-month-old child.

Facebook was forced to apologize Saturday after a “technical issue” caused Chinese leader Xi Jinping’s name to appear as “Mr. S–thole” when translated from Burmese to English in posts on its platform, the company said.

The blunder was noticed on the second day of Xi’s visit to the country to sign infrastructure-related agreements with Burmese state counselor Aung San Suu Kyi.

That meant Facebook users who translated headlines from local outlets would be treated to breaking news stories like, “Dinner honors president s–thole.”

Meanwhile, Suu Kyi’s official Facebook page was filled with the obscenity as she posted about her time with Xi.

Facebook’s system did not have President Xi Jinping’s name in its Burmese database, leaving the site to guess the translation, the company said in a statement. Testing the translations of similar words starting with “xi” and “shi” brought the same “sh–thole” results, it added.

“We fixed a technical issue that caused incorrect translations from Burmese to English on Facebook,” Facebook said.

“This should not have happened and we are taking steps to ensure it doesn’t happen again. We sincerely apologize for the offense this has caused.”

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — A review commissioned by the Archdiocese of Anchorage found credible evidence of sexual misconduct by 14 people who served in the archdiocese dating to 1966, a church leader announced Thursday.

The findings were made by a commission that the archdiocese said included a former police chief and two former prosecutors, one of whom is also a retired judge. The commission was charged with reviewing personnel files of “clerics and religious men and women” who served in the archdiocese dating to 1966, as well as reviewing allegations of sexual misconduct of lay volunteers and employees reported to the archdiocese.

Iran summons UK ambassador over his participation in ‘illegal rally’ following his arrest at anti-govt protest

The UK envoy’s detention during an anti-government rally in Tehran has sparked a diplomatic scandal. The envoy, summoned on Sunday by the Iranian Foreign Ministry, says he was at a “vigil” for victims of the Ukrainian plane crash.

“Today, Rob Macaire was summoned because of his unconventional behavior of attending an illegal rally on Saturday,” the Iranian Foreign Ministry said in a statement. It also demanded that the British government provide clarification on the matter.

The diplomat was briefly detained late on Saturday outside of Amirkabir University in Tehran, as part of a group of people attending a chaotic vigil – held for the victims of the Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752 crash – which turned into an anti-government rally. According to Iranian state media, the official was seeking “to organize, instigate and direct some radical and destructive actions.”

While many people brought candles and flowers to the event, seeking to mourn the dead, some showed up with anti-government banners and began chanting slogans, demanding “prosecutions and constitutional changes.” The event escalated into clashes between the police and protesters, who were ultimately dispersed.

The ambassador, however, maintains that he was only seeking to attend the vigil. The Ukrainian plane was accidentally downed by Iranian air defenses on Wednesday after the passenger jet was mistaken for an incoming cruise missile.

Federal Court Rules Cops Can Taser, Choke You Because Trouble Understanding Them is ‘Resistance’

MUSKOGEE, Okla. — (TRI) An Oklahoma federal court has refused to hold police responsible for brutalizing an African-American man who, despite complying with police orders during an arrest, was subjected to excessive force and brutality, including being thrown to the ground, tasered, and placed in a chokehold that rendered him unconscious and required his hospitalization for three days.

In granting the police officers’ motion to dismiss a Fourth Amendment lawsuit filed by attorneys for The Rutherford Institute on behalf of Jeriel Edwards, the court ruled that Edwards’ confusion and trouble understanding police directions constituted “resistance” that justified the force used by the four police officers involved in the violent arrest.

Institute attorneys argued that, as shown by dash cam video of the arrest, Edwards was peaceful, did not defy police orders, and did nothing to provoke the clearly unreasonable and excessive force employed by the police.

Affiliate attorney Andrea Worden is assisting in the defense of Edwards’ Fourth Amendment rights.

“If you ask police what Americans should do to stay alive during encounters with law enforcement, they will tell you to comply, cooperate, obey, not resist, not argue, not make threatening gestures or statements, avoid sudden movements, and submit to a search of their person and belongings,” said constitutional attorney John W.
