🔴 They can also now “preventatively detain” someone not just for 48 hours, but up to 5-7 days

🫤 The pretext for the amendments is, of course, fighting crime and terror.

One of just five bullet points in the strategy's ‘What Do We Want In and From the World?’ section states that the US seeks “to prevent an adversarial power from dominating the Middle East, its oil and gas supplies, and the chokepoints through which they pass while avoiding the ‘forever wars’ that bogged us down in that region at great cost.”

French, European and international media can’t seem to get their story straight over an incident involving unidentified drones that buzzed France’s Ile Longue strategic sub base.

The only thing everyone could agree on is that the drones were detected. Some sources said that troops fired ballistic weapons to try to down the drones, while others said they used jammers. Some reported that at least some of the drones were brought down, while others said none were.

There’s also no official word on the drones’ origins, types or numbers.

French Defense Minister Catherine Vautrin commended what she characterized as “the interception.”

Rennes public prosecutor Frederic Teillet said “no link with foreign interference has been established,” and reiterated that no drones were downed.

The incident is Europe’s latest drone-related scare.

Weather modeling specialist Ryan Torn says AI and machine-learning based models rely on “information from past weather fields, typically 40+ years…to ‘learn’ how the atmosphere evolves with time.”

💬 “When you think about extreme weather and climate change, you need to also think that events outside the bounds of what’s expected will occur, and AI modeling may not capture that risk. That’s where traditional physics-based modeling may remain essential,” hurricane expert Matt Lanza stressed.

Dependence on AI modeling also carries other risks, like relying on a ‘black box’ set of algorithms that can’t be dissected to interpret why a particular prediction was made, not to mention potential gaps in data, training biases, vulnerability to selective data manipulation, and critical disruptions if AI is formally integrated into NOAA’s systems.
