The Australian government has pledged to crack down on non-compliant dissident voices.

It is worth remembering the worldwide experience with COVID-19 enforcement. Arguably, we can assert the most oppressive western actions to enforce COVID-19 mitigation were conducted by the same national governments’ now being confronted over mass migration.

If you remember 2020, the eastern Europe region currently under extreme EU pressure to comply with anti-Russia policy was the same region with the most brutal COVID-19 compliance enforcement. France, Germany and the EU overall were the originators of the COVID-19 passport.

Similarly, no nation was as openly ridiculous with their heavy-handed COVID-19 and vaccine enforcement than Australia and New Zealand. Quarantine camps, restricted travel, forced vaccinations and lockdowns were not only carried out, but they were also enforced with arrests by very militarized police.

This is the backdrop where Australians will be attempting to organize and protest.

Pakistani cricket star Haider Ali is arrested by British police over rape allegation

Pakistani cricket star Haider Ali has been arrested by police in Manchester on suspicion of rape.

The 24-year-old batsman is accused of carrying out the sexual assault while on tour with Pakistan's A team against England last month.

Ali allegedly carried out the rape at a 'premises' in Manchester on July 23 - during the middle of the international contest.

He was arrested earlier this week by Greater Manchester Police, with the force saying he has since been bailed as detectives continue with their investigation.

News of his arrest comes after Ali was provisionally suspended by the Pakistan Cricket Board over an alleged 'criminal offence'.

In a statement, Greater Manchester Police told the Mail: 'After receiving a report on Monday August 4 2025 of a rape, we have arrested a 24-year-old man.

'It's alleged that the incident occurred on Wednesday July 23 2025 at a premises in Manchester.

'The man has since been bailed pending further enquiries. The victim is being supported by officers.'

Ali was reportedly arrested in Beckenham, where Pakistan's A team - otherwise known as the Shaheens - were playing the last of their five games against England.

Ali played in all five games, including the first two on July 22 and July 25 between when the rape is alleged to have taken place.

Yesterday, the Pakistani Cricket Board confirmed the batsman was under criminal investigation in the UK and had been suspended.

The board, however, did not expand on the nature of the crime Ali was being accused of at the time.

In a statement, Pakistan Cricket Board said: 'The PCB has been made aware of a criminal investigation currently being conducted by the Greater Manchester Police involving cricketer Haider Ali.

'The investigation pertains to an incident that reportedly occurred during the Pakistan Shaheens' recent tour of England.

'The PCB fully respects the legal procedures and processes of the United Kingdom and acknowledges the importance of allowing the investigation to run its due course.

'Accordingly, the PCB has decided to place Haider Ali under provisional suspension, effective immediately, pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation.

'Once the legal proceedings are concluded and all facts have been duly established, the PCB reserves the right to take appropriate action under its Code of Conduct, if necessary.'

Born and raised in Punjab, Ali grew up playing tape-ball cricket before featuring in Pakistan's youth teams as a 15-year-old.

Ali made his professional debut for Rawalpindi in 2018 before being recruited into Pakistan's T20 franchise league a year later.

Playing for Peshawar Zalmi, he became the youngest cricketer to bag a fifty in the Pakistan Super League.

His standout performance for the club saw him scoring 239 runs.

He made his international debut during a T20I game in Manchester, where he scored 54 runs off of 33 balls, helping Pakistani to clinch a nail-biting victory by just five runs.

However, despite some strong games, Ali's international performance has been plagued with inconsistency, which has repeatedly found himself in and out of the side.

Discoveries in the death of pharmaceutical billionaire Barry Sherman weave a tale of intrigue unprecedented in modern Canadian history.

Apotex Inc, Canada’s largest pharmaceutical company, was founded by Mr. Sherman in 1974. The sole manufacturer of hydroxychloroquine in the country, Sherman’s company offered to donate two million dosages of the medication to the Trudeau government as a potential remedy for the Covid pandemic.

According to a 2020 report from Nature.com, “hydroxychloroquine is effective in inhibiting SARS-CoV-2 infection in vitro.”

If Apotex hydroxychloroquine was confirmed as a cost-effective antidote to the Covid virus, would it not serve to undermine Big Pharma vaccine campaigns, and therefore profits?

The Covid phenomenon is older than most would suspect. As far back as 2005, a study from Virology Journal reported that hydroxychloroquine was a “potent inhibitor of SARS coronavirus infection and spread.”

The etiology tells us that Covid is connected to SARS, its breakout first reported in Guangdong, China in 2002. The disease rapidly spread to at least 30 countries, and worldwide efforts led to its identification as the etiological agent for SARS coronavirus.

According to Journal of Critical Care, there is “rationale, pre-clinical evidence of effectiveness for safety from long-time clinical use for other indications to justify clinical research on Chloroquine in patients with Covid-19.

Can a motive for the deaths of Barry and Honey Sherman be found in these circumstances? Turns out that Covid is in no way a “post-modern” development. The existence of the virus has been known since at least 2005.

Meaning that billions in research and development were likely invested by Pfizer and other Big Pharma players. Could the industry’s awareness of Barry Sherman’s cost-effective solution serve as a motive to “deal with” the Canadian billionaire?

For how long has the healthcare industry in Canada known of the existence of Covid? Motivated by the SARS outbreak in China in the year 2003, Dr. Theresa Tam was appointed chief of Health Canada’s immunization and infections division. The possibility of Tam, migrant from Hong Kong, not comprehending the SARS-Covid connection is nil.

Why was it that neither this medical expert, health authorities or media divulged the fact that Covid-19 dates back over sixteen years? The common perception is that the Covid virus first emerged less than four years ago.

Mystery abounds in the curious case of Covid-19. Particularly in light of the fact that Barry Sherman was a major fundraiser for Justin Trudeau’s bid to become prime minister of Canada.

At the time of the deaths of the Shermans on December 15th, 2017, the Apotex founder was being investigated by the Canadian Federal Government Lobbying Commission. If convicted, Sherman would face a five-year ban on lobbying the federal government.

Their investigation focused on Liberal Party fundraisers hosted by the Shermans at their Toronto home in August, 2015. The guest of honour was Justin Trudeau, who at the time was running for prime minister. Sherman and his wife hosted between 100 and 150 people, each paying $1,500 dollars to attend the event with Mr. Trudeau two months before his election victory.

The circumstances suggest a connection between the deaths of the Shermans, and the ruling Liberal government of Canada. It is arguable that an association between Justin Trudeau and Barry Sherman would have impeded the candidate’s potential to become prime minister.

“In light of Dr. Sherman’s passing, the purpose of the investigation to ensure his compliance with the (lobbying) code can no longer be fulfilled,” the Lobbying Commissioner stated in a letter dated January 24, 2016.

“The newly-appointed federal lobbying watchdog won’t look any further into a complaint about a private fundraiser the late Barry Sherman hosted for Justin Trudeau.”

To this day, not one solid lead or suspect has been identified by Canadian authorities. Media report that hundreds of law enforcement agents have dedicated thousands of hours to the investigation. The deaths of Barry and Honey Sherman stand as the greatest murder mystery in modern Canadian history.

By now we are getting used to lower courts misappropriating their roles, acting as if they occupied that of the chief executive. As these cases reach the Supreme Court, they are being overturned, but not without a cost to the president’s agenda or to the respect to which we’d normally accord the judiciary. The notion of a judicial coup is not far off, and people like Elon Musk suggest it’s time for Congress to initiate impeachment proceedings against the worst offenders.

Calley Means, White House Senior Advisor for MAHA, joined Charles Hurt on FOX News Saturday night to discuss the walk-out protest at the CDC headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia on Thursday.

Hundreds of CDC workers left their jobs to protest in support of Susan Monarez and the resignation of three others from CDC leadership.

On Saturday, Calley Means told Charles Hurt that there is a memo going around at the CDC headquarters, and throughout HHS, on how to subvert President Trump and Robert F. Kennedy.

These people should be immediately fired and the ones who organized this effort out to be criminally charged.

Kremlin aide Kirill Dmitriev has accused European leaders of prolonging the conflict with “impossible demands”

Russian President Vladimir Putin’s special economicenvoy, Kirill Dmitriev, has accused the EU of deliberately undermining US-led peace efforts in Ukraine, following media reports that Washington increasingly believes European leaders are obstructing negotiations.

In a series of posts on X, Dmitrievsaid Brussels is “sabotaging a real peace process” by encouraging Kiev to pursue what he called “impossible demands.”His remarks came after reports in Axios and The Atlantic that the White House is growing frustrated with EU governments for undermining US President Donald Trump’s peace initiative.

“EU warmongers exposed… Even Washington now sees it – EU leaders are prolonging the conflict in Ukraine with impossible demands,” Dmitriev wrote,urging the bloc to “drop Biden’s failed logic” and “stop sabotaging a real peace process.”

“I warned about these efforts to sabotage the Trump peace plan before,” he added in a separate post. The envoy, who was part of the Russian delegation at the Alaska summit between Trump and Putin,also criticized a recent Politico report on Trump envoy Steve Witkoff, which he described as an attempt to discredit the American side’s mediation.

“Afraid of a peace plan, EU/UK warmongers push ‘foreign influence’ ops in the US and worldwideto undermine US-Russia talks. Dialogue will prevail – more key people see the massive effort to derail progress,” he wrote.

Dmitriev has previously praised Trump for seeking what he described as a “real solution” to the conflict. He has also denounced Brussels’ repeated sanctions packages against Russia, arguing that they are aimed at prolonging the war and blocking cooperation between Moscow and Washington.

Moscow has long insisted on a peace agreement that addresses the underlying causes of the conflict. It has demanded that Ukraine maintain neutrality, stay out of NATO and other military blocs, demilitarize and denazify, and accept the current territorial reality – including the status of Crimea and other regions that voted to join Russia in referendums in 2014 and 2022.

On Monday, President Donald Trump moved to fire Lisa Cook, a Biden-nominated member of the Federal Reserve's Board of Governors. He moved to fire Cook for "cause," and that cause is clear enough: According to William Pulte, director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, Cook allegedly committed mortgage fraud by lying about her principal place of residence for purposes of securing more favorable interest rates—and then failed to report her rental income from the properties, to boot.

Trump's move is the first time a president has ever tried to fire a Fed governor for cause, and Trump's usual detractors have criticized him for his latest perceived violation of institutional norms. But Trump has acted appropriately; he is fully within his constitutional and statutorily delegated authority to remove Cook—whether for "cause" or not.

Let's return to first principles.

The modern administrative state operates as a fourth branch of government, unmoored from direct political accountability. Its very existence, to say nothing of its present metastasis, is in irreconcilable tension with the American Founders' vision of a clearly delineated tripartite separation of powers between Congress, executive branch, and judiciary.

Article II of the Constitution vests the entirety of the "executive power" in the hands of the president of the United States. And as Chief Justice William Howard Taft (himself a former president) made clear in Myers v. United States (1926), this includes the power to remove executive branch officers. While the New Deal-era case Humphrey's Executor v. United States (1935) carved out a dubious exception for so-called independent agencies, constitutionalists have long understood Humphrey's as an aberration in need of reversal.

Indeed, the Supreme Court has been chipping away at this edifice. In Seila Law v. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (2020), the Roberts court held that Congress cannot insulate a lone executive officer—in that case, the director of the bureau—from at-will presidential removal. In Collins v. Yellen (2021), the court extended that logic even further, holding that restrictions on the president's ability to remove the head of the FHFA are also unconstitutional.

It is true that in Trump v. Wilcox, a case from earlier this year in which the court green-lit Trump's dismissal of a Biden-nominated member of the National Labor Relations Board, the court did opine that arguments about the legitimacy of for-cause removal provisions for labor board members do not necessarily implicate similar for-cause restrictions for members of the Fed's Board of Governors. The court's brief two-page order in Wilcox described the Fed as a "uniquely structured ... entity."

But is it? Or perhaps more precisely—can it legitimately be? Members of the Fed's Board of Governors are appointed by the president and confirmed by the Senate. They exercise significant policymaking authority, affecting the economy, interest rates, and the value of the dollar. That is executive power under any reasonable understanding of the term.

The EU’s foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, has said Ukraine faces a “huge gap” in financing,as the bloc remains deeply divided over whether frozen Russian assets should be used to support Kiev.

Over $300 billion in Russian assets have been frozen in Western institutions since the Ukraine conflict escalated in 2022, mostly under EU control. The largest share is held in Belgium through the Euroclear clearing house.While interest is being sent to Kiev, full confiscation is seen by legal experts as a “minefield.” Moscow has denounced the freeze as “theft.”

Kallas, the former Estonian prime minister, said frozen Russian assets should not be returned unless Moscow pays reparations. Speaking at an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers on Saturday, she stated that the bloc must prepare for a future ceasefire or peace deal, but added that the EU’s position on full confiscation remains unchanged.

“Yes, it is true that many Member States raised this issue, that Ukraine’s funding gap is enormous, and we need to find the funding now,” she told reporters when asked if the asset debate was linked to peace talks or immediate funding.

“It is also clear the political reality that Belgium and many other countries are not willing to discuss it now in this, but everybody agrees still that Russia should pay for the damages, not our taxpayers,” she said.

Poland and the Baltic states have backed the full seizure of frozen Russian central bank assets to support Ukraine,while Belgium, France, and Germany have raised legal and financial concerns. Earlier this week, Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever likened the funds to “a goose that lays golden eggs,”warning that confiscation could trigger systemic risks and should be deferred until peace negotiations.

Euroclear-linked officials and Belgium’s foreign minister have echoed this stance,citing potential breaches of international law and damage to the euro’s credibility. Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg also cautioned that acting without a solid legal foundation would be“an enormous setback, and basically a disgrace” for the EU. The US has suggested using the assets as leverage in peace talks

The tech billionaire was responding to data showing Scotland’s deaths outpaced births by 34% in the first half of 2025

Europe could “die out” unless it fixes its demographic problems by boosting birth rates, tech billionaire Elon Musk has warned.

In a post on X on Saturday, Musk was responding to statistics from Scotland showing 34% more deaths than births in the first half of 2025.

“Unless the birth rate at least gets back to replacement rate, Europe will die out,”he wrote, referring to the average number of children needed per couple for a population to replace itself.

The replacement fertility rate is generally set at 2.1 children per woman, accounting for child mortality and near-equal gender ratios at birth. Recent studies, however, suggest that this level may be insufficient, pointing to a long-term survival threshold closer to 2.7 children per woman.

According tothe UK’s Office for National Statistics, the fertility rate in England and Wales fell to 1.4 in 2024, while Scotland’s stood at 1.3— both far below replacement levels. In the EU, fertility has been declining for years, reaching a record low of 1.4 live births per woman in 2023.

Musk, a vocal advocate for higher birth rates who has fathered at least 14 children and donated millions to fertility research, has often raised the alarm over the demographic decline in Europe.His warnings, however, extend beyond Europe. Musk has cited global demographic data, claiming that civilization “is going to crumble” unless birth rates rise. He previously argued thatpopulation collapse due to low fertility “is a much bigger risk to civilization” than climate change.

Worldwide, fertility has been falling for over 50 years. UN data shows it stood at around 2.2 births per woman in 2024, down from 5 in the 1970s and 3.3 in the 1990s. Only 45% of countries and areas – home to roughly a third of the global population – reported fertility levels at or above 2.1 last year. Just 13% had fertility rates of 4.0 or higher, mainly in sub-Saharan Africa, Afghanistan, Sudan, and Yemen.

Falling birth rates and population decline have also become a pressing issue for Russia, with Rosstat recording just 1.2 million births in 2024 – the lowest since 1999 – reflecting a fertility rate of 1.4.

Germany has blocked the European Commission’s latest proposal to sanction Israel over the war in Gaza, Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul has said.

Israel has faced growing backlash over its conduct in the conflict, accused of allowing almost no aid into the enclave. Several Western states have announced plans to recognize a Palestinian state, and in some cases, scale back military and trade cooperation with Israel.

The European Commission last weekproposed suspending Israel’s participation in the Horizon Europe research program, cutting off funding for Israeli start-ups in drone technology, cybersecurity, and AI.This was intended to pressure Israel to improve humanitarian aid deliveries, according to a draft resolution.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an EU meeting in Copenhagen on Saturday, Wadephulsaid Germany rejected the plan, as it was “not convinced” that curbing Israel’s access to EU research funds would influence its military action. Instead, he noted that Berlin has already restricted the delivery of weapons that can be used in Gaza, suggesting Brussels should focus on similar steps.

“I believe this is a very targeted measure, one that is very important and very necessary,” he said.

EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas acknowledged on Saturday that the bloc is divided on the issue, and that she is “not very optimistic” that ministers will reach an agreement soon, even though it does not require full unanimity.She added that some states want stronger economic pressure.

Denmark, which holds the EU’s rotating presidency, recently signaled support for tougher sanctions, such as suspending trade with Israel. Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares and his Slovenian counterpart, Tanja Fajon, have condemned the EU’s inaction over Gaza.Fajon told Bloomberg this week that the bloc has not imposed “a single measure”against Israel, contrasting it with the bloc’s unity in sanctioning Russia over the Ukraine conflict.

The Gaza conflict began in 2023 when Hamas militants attacked Israel, killing around 1,200 people and taking more than 250 hostages. Since then, Israeli forces have killed more than 61,000 people in the enclave. A UN-backed panel earlier this month declared that there is a famine in northern Gaza, with over half a million people on the brink of starvation.

(Germany wants Israel’s deadly drone research and production, but not for them to stop killing of the people. Sounds Nazi like to me. They prefer the economic benefit they will get. Well the EU goes all in giving billions to Ukraine for war, but cut the stipends to their people, pretty much the same.)

Germany reveals most popular names among welfare recipients

The Labor Ministry has revised the list, with ‘Mohammed’ replacing ‘Michael’ at number one

‘Mohammed’ and ‘Ahmad’ are among the most common names of welfare recipients in Germany, according to newly revised figures released by the federal government. ‘Olena’, a Ukrainian variant of Helen, is the only female name in the top ten.

Germany’s unemployment rate reached 6.4% in August, with the total number of jobless people exceeding 3 million for the first time in a decade. According to Federal Employment Agency data,5.42 million people were receiving welfare benefits at the end of 2024– of which 48% were foreigners, compared to 19.6% in 2010.

The right-wing Alternative for Germany (AfD) party had requested information on the most common first names of recipients to support its argument about the failure of integration.

In June, the Labor Ministry replied that the leading names were ‘Michael’, ‘Andreas’, and ‘Thomas’, followed by ‘Daniel’, ‘Olena’, and ‘Alexander’ – prompting media ridicule of the AfD.However, the initial list did not combine different spellings of names, such as ‘Thomas’ and ‘Tomas’, ‘Mohammed’ and ‘Mohamed’, listing them separately.

The revised data placed ‘Mohammed’ – spread across 19 spellings – in first place with nearly 40,000 entries, followed by ‘Michael’ with around 24,600 and ‘Ahmad’ with more than 20,600. ‘Olena’ remained the only female name among the top ten, with around 14,200 entries.

Germany is the EU’s top migrant destination and the world’s third-largest refugee-hosting country, according to UN data. Under former Chancellor Angela Merkel’s open-border policies, more than a million people arrived from Syria, Afghanistan, and Iraq during the 2015 migrant influx. In recent years, the country has granted temporary protection to 1.2 million Ukrainians and received 334,000 asylum applications in 2023, nearly a third of the EU total.

The migrant crisis has strained housing, public services and finances, contributing to the rise of the AfD, which has recently led national polls as Germany’s most popular political party.

The AfD came in second in February’s federal election with 152 seats in the 630-seat Bundestag, but was excluded from coalition talks. Germany’s domestic intelligence agency (BfV) has designated the AfD a “confirmed extremist entity.”While that classification was temporarily suspended, senior officials have continued to seek legal grounds to pursue a formal ban of the party.

For much of its history, the planetary nebula has been expelling shells, as seen in blue in the featured image by the Hubble Space Telescope. In modern times, though, for reasons unknown, it began ejecting gas and dust (seen in brown) in specific directions that created a new pattern that seems to have four corners. What lies at the nebula's center is unknown, with one hypothesis holding it to be a close binary star system where one star sheds gas onto an erratic disk orbiting the other star. NGC 7027, about 3,000 light years away, was first discovered in 1878 and can be seen with a standard backyard telescope toward the constellation of the Swan (Cygnus).

Victor Wembanyama has never been shy about his interests.

Between his Star Wars fandom and his LEGO purchases — his first NBA paycheck buy combined both realms — the 7-foot-4 Frenchman isn't afraid to go against the grain.

His bedtime sits at 9 p.m. and he feels "immune" to outside vices.

But couldn't stay away from NASA.

Wembanyama Pays Visit to NASA

Friday afternoon, NASA took to X, formerly Twitter to share photos of Wembanyama's recent visit.

The tour included the Vehicle Mockup Facility, Mission Control and a ride in a lunar rover.

"He even signed the hatch like a true space VIP," NASA wrote.

At the end of his rookie season, Wembanyama added science to his known list of interests.

After answering a few questions about his new hardware during his Rookie of the Year press conference — coincidentally at a planetarium — he explained dark matter.

“Dark matter is a mass we can’t see," he said, "but we know (it) is there because it has influence on gravitational pulls and the speed of gravitational orbits in every galaxy."

Its mystery hooked Wembanyama.

"We can’t see it," the San Antonio Spurs' star said. "We can’t observe it, but we can observe its influence. This is dark matter.”

Last season, Wembanyama averaged 24.3 points, 11 rebounds and a league-leading 3.8 blocks per game on 47 percent shooting from the field.

He was on pace for the NBA's Defensive Player of the Year Award, a spot on 1-of-3 All-NBA squads and potentially the league's Most Improved Player of the Year Award, but fell short of all recognition due to a lack of games played.

Wembanyama focused on recovering from deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder over the offseason while simultaneously scratching things off his bucket list.

The 21-year-old trained with Shaolin Monks in China; hosted a chess, basketball fusion event in France; and worked out with Kevin Garnett in one summer.

Now, he adds a trip to NASA to his résumé. Perhaps he's due for another press conference to explain his findings further.

Aurora alert! Incoming cannibal solar storm could spark Labor Day northern lights show

Heads up aurora chasers! A powerful solar storm is on its way and could supercharge the skies with northern lights just in time for the Labor Day holiday.

A long-duration M2.7 flare erupted from sunspot Active Region 4199 on Aug. 30, launching a fast-moving, Earth-directed coronal mass ejection (CME).

The CME is expected to reach Earth late on Sept. 1 into early Sept. 2 (UTC), according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC).

NOAA modeling suggests G2 (moderate) geomagnetic storming is likely when the CME first arrives, with conditions intensifying to G3 (strong) as the bulk of the storm passes on Sept. 2.

That means auroras could extend farther south than usual across the northern U.S.

Space weather physicist Tamitha Skov highlighted that there are actually two Earth-directed solar storms, with one possibly overtaking the other.

"The NOAA model run includes the two Earth-directed #solarstorm launches. The larger one catches up with the smaller one just ahead of Earth so a precursor disturbance may indeed ramp up before the larger storm hits.

Impact is expected by late September 1. G2+ conditions possible," Skov wrote on X. When one CME sweeps up another in this way, scientists call it a "cannibal CME" — a scenario that may be unfolding now.

The U.K. Met Office echoed the alert, stating the auroral oval is expected to be "significantly enhanced" after the CME arrives, with displays possibly visible as far south as East Anglia, the Midlands, and Wales under clear skies.

However, they caution that a waxing gibbous moon may hamper viewing.

NOAA classifies geomagnetic storms on a scale from G1 (minor) to G5 (extreme).

G3 storms can bring auroras to mid-latitudes (around 50° geomagnetic latitude), which often translates to states like Oregon, Illinois, and New York in the U.S.

CMEs are massive bursts of plasma and magnetic field from the sun that can spark colorful auroras when they slam into Earth’s magnetic field.

These storms can also disrupt satellites, radio communications, and even power grids during stronger events.

Aurora conditions are expected to remain elevated into Sept. 3, so even if clouds spoil the show one night, there could be more chances to catch the northern lights in the days ahead. Stay tuned!

ESA's JUICE spacecraft flies by Venus on its way to Jupiter's icy moons

During the wee hours of this morning (Aug. 31), a boxy spacecraft with solar wings in the shape of crosses flew right by Venus — if all went according to plan.

That probe is the European Space Agency's (ESA) JUICE ("Jupiter Icy Moons Explorer"), which is on its way to do just what you might expect after hearing its name.

The ultimate goal is indeed for JUICE to study our solar system's creamsicle-colored gas giant, but also to gather data about three of the planet's largest moons — Ganymede, Callisto, and Europa.

These three moons are believed to harbor oceans under their icy crusts, meaning they could be solid leads in astronomers' quest to find life beyond Earth. Europa in particular is a high-profile suspect for that agenda.

But if you're familiar with the arrangement of our solar system's planets, you may wonder why JUICE flew by Venus on its way to Jupiter — that's technically the wrong direction. The simple explanation is that JUICE can't really take a straight-line route to its destination.

Rather, it's hopping around the gravitational tides of different worlds — it recently flew by the moon and then Earth again, for instance — as part of a larger, fuel-efficient effort to slingshot itself to the Jovian system.

Unfortunately for the public, JUICE operators had to turn off the spacecraft's sensors during the probe's Venus flyby because of the intense heat of the amber-hued planet's environment. What does that mean? No images.

In fact, according to a statement published by ESA on Aug. 25, JUICE even used its main, high-gain antenna as a "thermal shield" during today's encounter. That flyby peaked with a scheduled closest approach to Venus at 1:28 a.m. EST (0528 GMT) today.

The flyby comes after JUICE presented mission operators with a bit of a challenge in July, as the spacecraft stopped communicating information about its health and telemetry.

Twenty hours of troubleshooting later, however, the team was able to find the robotic explorer's voice once again, and all was well.

The next stop for the nearly 13,300-pound (6,000-kilogram) probe will be Earth yet again.

"JUICE will use the gravity of Venus this week to bend its orbit around the sun and gain speed relative to Earth without using fuel," ESA wrote in the Aug. 25 statement.

"JUICE will use the Earth flyby in 2026 to further fine-tune its trajectory." From there, the probe will conduct one more orbit around the sun, the team explained, before returning to (you guessed it) Earth a final time in January 2029.

Only then can it start thinking about the culmination of its journey. It should settle in orbit around Jupiter in July 2031.

One week until the blood moon total lunar eclipse lights up September's sky

Get ready stargazers!

In just one week, Earth's shadow will roll across the lunar surface, giving rise to a spectacular 'blood moon' total lunar eclipse on Sept. 7-8.

A total lunar eclipse occurs when Earth passes between the moon and sun, casting its shadow over our natural satellite.

The tilted orbit of Earth's moon prevents us from experiencing a total lunar eclipse every month during the new moon phase.

However, about three times every year, orbital mechanics conspire to bring the Earth, moon and sun into perfect alignment, setting the stage for a breathtaking lunar spectacle.

The week leading up to the total lunar eclipse is the perfect time to stake out your ideal eclipse viewing spot.

This extra bit of prep will give photographers the opportunity to line up spectacular compositions featuring the eclipsed moon alongside iconic landmarks, while also allowing naked eye viewers to ensure that there won't be any pesky buildings ruining their view.

Stargazers lucky enough to have a direct line of sight on the moon during the total lunar eclipse will see it take on a rusty red hue as it slips into the deepest part of Earth's shadow during totality, known as its umbra.

This crimson glow comes from Rayleigh scattering, wherein bluer wavelengths of sunlight are deflected by particles in Earth's atmosphere, while longer red wavelengths are allowed to pass through relatively unhindered.

During totality, the moon is saturated in the longer wavelengths of sunlight, causing it to turn a deep red, granting it the moniker of a "blood moon".

There's absolutely no need to panic if clouds threaten your view of the lunar spectacle, or if the moon is below the horizon as the eclipse unfolds, as Space.com will be hosting a livestream of the event online, with details to be released closer to the time.

What to look out for when the blood moon rises on Sept. 7-8

The total lunar eclipse will begin globally at 11:28 a.m. (1528 GMT) on Sept. 7, with totality occurring at 1:30 p.m. ET (1730 GMT) and stretching on for a staggering 82 minutes before the deepest part of Earth's shadow begins to slip from the surface of the lunar disk.

Each phase of the eclipse will occur at the same time for everyone on Earth, though your ability to see it will be dictated by whether the moon is above the horizon as the cosmic alignment plays out.

An estimated 5.8 billion people — roughly 76% of the world's population — spread across Australia, Asia, Africa and eastern Europe will be in a position to witness totality from beginning to end.

Viewers in countries on either side of this block, such as the U.K., Spain and Brazil, will get a glimpse at some phases of the eclipse, but miss parts, or all of totality.

Sadly, the moon will be below the horizon for the entirety of the Sept. 7-8 eclipse for those in the Americas.

There's no risk of damaging your eyesight when viewing the stages of a total lunar eclipse — as opposed to a solar eclipse, where utmost care must be taken to protect your eyesight — so feel free to observe the event through a telescope, with binoculars, or the naked eye!

Russian forces taken control of over 3,500 square kilometers and 149 settlements in the Ukraine operation since March, Chief of the General Staff General Valery Gerasimov reported in an update on Saturday.

He noted that Russia has advanced along nearly the entire front over this time.

Gerasimov, speaking at a Defense Ministry briefing in Moscow, also gave percentage figures for Russian territory liberated and outlined plans for further operations.

According to Gerasimov, Russian troops “have liberated 99.7% of the territory of the Lugansk People's Republic (less than 60 sq. km remain) and 79% of the territory of the Donetsk People's Republic.”

He added that 74% of Zaporozhye Region and 76% of Kherson Region are now under the control of Russian forces. All four former Ukrainian regions voted to join Russia in referendums in September 2022.

Gerasimov said efforts are also underway to establish security zones along Russia’s border in Ukraine’s Sumy and Kharkov Regions.

After repelling a Ukrainian incursion into Russia’s Kursk Region that began in August of last year, Moscow is seeking to create a “buffer zone” to shield its border from further attacks.

In Sumy Region, Russian troops currently control 210 sq. km and 13 settlements, Gerasimov said.

“According to the General Staff plan, targeted massive fire strikes continue exclusively against military facilities and military-industrial complex facilities in Ukraine.

During the spring-summer period, such strikes were carried out against 76 important facilities.

Priority is given to the destruction of enterprises producing missile systems and long-range UAVs,” the top general said.

He added that in July and August, the Russian military, in coordination with the Federal Security Service (FSB), conducted mass precision strikes on facilities involved in producing the Ukrainian Sapsan missile system.

Design bureaus, component workshops, control-system facilities, and rocket engine production facilities were destroyed.

Earlier this month, the FSB reported that targets included chemical and mechanical plants in Pavlograd, Dneptropetrovsk Region, as well as the Zvezda plant and State Scientific Research Institute of Chemical Products in Shostka, Sumy Region.

Andrey Parubiy, a far-right Ukrainian politician who was shot dead in Lviv on Saturday, directly ordered attacks on Donbass and provoked a “civil war” with eastern Ukraine after the Maidan coup, ex-Ukrainian diplomat Andrey Telizhenko has told RT.

Parubiy, an MP and former speaker of the Ukrainian Rada, played an active role in the Western-backed coup in Kiev in 2014, as well as in the nationalist government it brought to power.

He had deep and long-running ties to Ukraine’s neo-Nazi movement, co-founding the far-right Social-National Party of Ukraine.

“During the cabinet of ministers meetings, [at] which I was present, Parubiy directly ordered the mass shellings of the people of Donbass,” Telizhenko told RT on Saturday.

“He said, ‘We do not care who those people are. Russians, they’re Moscali [a Ukrainian slur for Russians], we should kill them,’” the former diplomat, who was an adviser to Ukraine’s prosecutor general at the time, said.

Parubiy and his team were “working directly with the Jamestown Foundation, a former CIA central think tank in Washington, DC,” Telizhenko claimed.

That’s a direct citation from Parubiy during the cabinet of ministers meeting, in which he pushed to provoke the civil war in eastern Ukraine, which has now led to a big massive conflict.

Parubiy and his team were “working directly with the Jamestown Foundation, a former CIA central think tank in Washington, DC,” Telizhenko claimed.

This is not just a collaborator with the West. He’s a Nazi. He was directly supporting the Nazi movement in Ukraine.

According to Telizhenko, Parubiy directly coordinated the shootings during the Maidan coup.

“He was coordinating the radicals on Maidan, when to shoot, who to shoot and how to shoot, even who to shoot [among] their own” and “provoking insurgents within the coup itself,” he said.

“His team was responsible for blocking the anti-sniper unit [from] coming to Maidan.”

Parubiy “also covered up the shootings” in the subsequent investigation, as well as blocking the probe into the 2014 Odessa massacre, Telizhenko said.

“He was responsible for closing down the case and destroying the evidence [of] his involvement in the coordination of that terrorist attack,” he said.

The far-right MP was reportedly responsible for organizing, arming, and transporting the militants which burned 42 anti-Maidan activists to death in the Odessa Trade Unions House.

Andrey Parubiy, a former Ukrainian parliamentary speaker and sitting far-right MP, was shot dead on Saturday in the western city of Lviv.

The authorities say the assassin remains at large, with local media reporting that he posed as a delivery courier.

Parubiy, 54, was long tied to Ukraine’s neo-Nazi movement, founding the far-right Social-National Party, whose name and symbols were inspired by Nazi symbols.

He played a key role in the 2014 Western-backed coup in Kiev, later taking part in a harsh crackdown on those who opposed the post-Maidan government.

Here are the key points from his troubled legacy.

Radical nationalist

In the waning days of the Soviet Union, Parubiy strongly advocated for Ukrainian secession, taking part in independence rallies and being detained on at least one occasion.

He was also involved in efforts to restore the graves of Ukrainian Insurgent Army fighters, the force led by Nazi collaborator Stepan Bandera during World War II.

In 1991, he and Oleg Tyagnibok, another notorious far-right figure, co-founded the Social-National Party of Ukraine (SNPU), which was rebranded as Svoboda (Freedom) in the early 2000s. The SNPU adopted a Wolfsangel symbol resembling Nazi iconography.

He later took part in the Orange Revolution of 2004, when demonstrators disputed the results of a presidential election – which ultimately led to Viktor Yushchenko’s rise to power and his pro-EU, pro-NATO policies.

Parubiy entered Ukraine’s national legislature in 2007, winning a seat on the ticket of Yushchenko’s Our Ukraine–People’s Self-Defense bloc.

Maidan enforcer

During the 2014 Western-backed Maidan coup in Kiev, Parubiy took command of far-right gangs of demonstrators in the protest camp, which on numerous occasions clashed with law enforcement.

He has also been accused of involvement in the sniper fire that killed dozens of protesters and police officers in February 2014, although he has never faced formal charges.

Odessa fire and Donbass conflict

After the Maidan coup and the ousting of President Viktor Yanukovich, Parubiy was appointed secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, a post he held until August 2014.

In this role, he oversaw the early crackdown on those resisting the Western-backed coup, including Kiev’s offensive in Donbass, which was marred by atrocities and strikes against civilians. In 2023, he was put on the wanted list in Russia.

Russian forces have carried out a long-range strike on Ukrainian port infrastructure used by Kiev’s military, according to a statеment released on Sunday by the Defense Ministry in Moscow.

The ministry said that Russian tactical aviation, drones, missiles, and artillery had struck coastal targets “used in the interests of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and a Norwegian-made NASAMS air defense system” that was protecting them. However, neither the exact whereabouts of the targets nor other details were provided.

The ministry added that the bases of Ukrainian troops and foreign fighters in more than 150 locations were also attacked.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian media shared pictures of large fires in the coastal Odessa Region. Energy company DTEK said four of its power facilities in the region had been hit overnight.

Local officials confirmed the damage, adding that the city of Chernomorsk, not far from Odessa, and its surroundings bore the brunt of the attack.

“The enemy massively attacked the Odessa Region with strike drones,” officials said, adding that "fires broke out in some places, but were quickly extinguished by our rescuers".

“One person is known to have been injured,” officials noted, adding that more than 29,000 people were left without electricity.

Russia has for months been targeting Ukrainian military-related industrial sites, defense enterprises, as well as port and energy infrastructure.

Moscow has said the strikes are retaliation for Ukrainian attacks inside Russia that often hit critical infrastructure and residential areas, and maintains that it does not target civilians.

Jon Gruden said Tuesday he is eager to discover the truth in a Nevada courtroom about whether commissioner Roger Goodell and the NFL leaked emails to the media before Gruden was forced to resign as Las Vegas Raiders coach in 2021.

"I'm looking forward to having the truth come out and I want to make sure what happened to me doesn't happen to anyone else," he said in a statement provided to ESPN.

Gruden said he blames the NFL for leaking the emails, which led the league to pressure the Raiders to force him out when the team was 3-1.

"The league's actions disrupted the whole season," Gruden said. "We were leading the division at the time, and they completely blindsided me and the team."

He added, "What happened wasn't right and I'm glad the court didn't let the NFL cover it up."

Gruden's comments came a day after the Nevada Supreme Court sided with him in his lawsuit alleging the NFL leaked damaging emails to the media before he was forced to resign in October 2021.

In a 5-2 ruling, the justices did not determine whether the league had leaked Gruden's racist, sexist and anti-gay emails to The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times at the time. But they found the league's decision to force Gruden's complaint into closed-door arbitration proceedings overseen by Goodell the target of Gruden's civil lawsuit was "unconscionable."

An NFL spokesperson said Tuesday the league would petition the Nevada Supreme Court for a rehearing. If that fails, the most likely next venue will be an appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Neither Gruden nor his lawyer, Adam Hosmer-Henner, would say whether they were inclined to settle the case with the NFL.

Gruden declined to address his coaching future Tuesday. He said last week he was eager to return to coaching and added: "I'd die to coach in the SEC."

Hosmer-Henner said he was gratified that the Nevada Supreme Court blocked Goodell from overseeing an arbitration proceeding when he is a defendant in a lawsuit.

"The NFL's legal position is absurd and will continue to be rejected by every court," Hosmer-Henner told ESPN. "Obviously, the NFL should not be allowed to be the judge of claims against the NFL or force people to comply with contracts that the NFL can unilaterally change any time it wants without notice."

The five justices of the Nevada Supreme Court ruled Monday that as a former employee, Gruden should not have been bound by an NFL constitution provision mandating arbitration for such complaints. Gruden's leaked emails were sent in 2011 while he was working for ESPN as a "Monday Night Football" analyst.

"By its own unambiguous language, the NFL Constitution no longer applies to Gruden," the five justices wrote. "If the NFL Constitution were to bind former employees, the Commissioner could essentially pick and choose which disputes to arbitrate."

On Monday, Hosmer-Henner lauded the Nevada Supreme Court decision, saying it was a victory not just for Gruden but for all employees facing "an employer's unfair arbitration process."

"This victory further vindicates Coach Gruden's reputation, and it clears the way to swiftly bringing him full justice and holding the NFL accountable," Hosmer-Henner said.

Gruden's lawsuit alleges that Goodell and the league pressured Raiders owner Mark Davis to fire the coach by leaking emails containing offensive comments that Gruden sent about the commissioner and others in the NFL.

Gruden won at the district court level. The NFL appealed to Nevada's high court after a state judge in Las Vegas in May 2022 rejected league bids to dismiss Gruden's claim outright or to order out-of-court settlement talks that could be overseen by Goodell.

A year ago, a three-judge panel of the Nevada Supreme Court decided the league could move Gruden's civil case into arbitration that might be overseen by Goodell. Two justices said Gruden knew when he signed a 10-year contract with the Raiders in 2018 that the NFL used arbitration to resolve disputes. The dissenting justice wrote that it would be "outrageous" for Goodell to arbitrate a dispute in which he is named as a defendant.

Gruden's lawyers were granted an en banc hearing of all seven Nevada Supreme Court justices, who heard oral arguments last year. All four justices who heard the case for the first time sided with Gruden against the NFL.

Question What is the prevalence of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) diagnoses and timing of initiation of medications among children aged 3 to 5 years seen in primary care?

Findings In this cohort study of electronic health records for 712 478 children seen in primary care practices at 8 US pediatric health systems, the prevalence of ADHD was 1.4% (range across institutions, 0.5%-3.1%); 68.2% of patients were prescribed medications and 42.2% had medications prescribed within 30 days of diagnosis, with variation by race, ethnicity, and insurance type.

MeaningThese findings suggest that investigation of barriers to nonpharmacological interventions, as well as factors associated with early prescriptions of ADHD medications, for preschool-age children is warranted.

Abstract

Importance Early identification and treatment of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) symptoms in preschool-age children is important for mitigating social, emotional, and academic problems. Clinical practice guidelines recommend first-line behavior intervention before considering medication treatment for children aged 4 to 5 years.

Objective To assess variation in rates of ADHD identification and rates and timing of medication initiation in children aged 3 to 5 years in primary care settings across 8 US pediatric health systems and to identify patient factors associated with the time from diagnosis to prescription.

Design, Setting, and Participants This retrospective cohort study used electronic health records from primary care clinics affiliated with 8 academic institutions participating in the PEDSnet Clinical Research Network. Participants were children aged 3 to 5 years seen between 2016 to 2023. Data were extracted from the PEDSnet database on April 18, 2025.

ExposureADHD diagnosis at age 4 to 5 years.

Main Outcomes and Measures The primary outcomes were (1) rate of ADHD diagnosis, (2) rate of stimulant and nonstimulant prescription after diagnosis before age 7 years, and (3) time from first ADHD-related diagnosis (including symptom-level diagnoses) to medication prescription. Independent variables included institution, year of diagnosis, patient age, sex, race and ethnicity, medical insurance, and presence of comorbidities. Multivariable Cox proportional hazards models were used to estimate associations between clinical and demographic variables and time from diagnosis to prescription.

Results Of 712 478 children seen in primary care at age 3 to 5 years, 9708 (1.4%) received an ADHD diagnosis at age 4 to 5 years (range across institutions, 0.5%-3.1%; median [IQR] age at first ADHD-related diagnosis, 5.31 [4.86-5.66] years). Of those with ADHD, 7414 (76.4%) were male, 1762 (18.1%) were Hispanic, 122 (1.3%) were non-Hispanic Asian, 3014 (31.0%) were non-Hispanic Black, 479 (4.9%) were non-Hispanic multiracial, 3782 (39.0%) were non-Hispanic White, 148 (1.5%) were non-Hispanic other, and 401 (4.1%) were of unknown race and ethnicity. Of 9708 preschool-age children with ADHD, 6624 (68.2%) were prescribed ADHD medications before age 7 years, and 4092 (42.2%) were prescribed medications within 30 days of the first documentation of an ADHD-related diagnosis (range across institutions, 26.0%-49.0%). Asian (adjusted hazard ratio [aHR], 0.51; 95% CI, 0.38-0.68), Hispanic (aHR, 0.75; 95% CI, 0.70-0.81), and Black (aHR, 0.88; 95% CI, 0.83-0.94) children with ADHD were less likely to be prescribed medication early compared with White children. Older vs younger patients (aHR, 1.62; 95% CI, 1.55-1.69), male vs female patients (aHR, 1.17; 95% CI, 1.11-1.25), and publicly insured vs privately insured patients (aHR, 1.09; 95% CI, 1.03-1.15) were more likely to be prescribed medication early.

Conclusion and Relevance In this retrospective cohort study of preschool-age children with ADHD seen in primary care in 8 large pediatric health systems, many children were prescribed medications at or shortly after the first documented diagnosis. Analysis of clinical documentation is needed to understand early prescription patterns.

A new study released Friday found that young children diagnosed with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, or ADHD, are often prescribed medication too quickly.

The study, led by Stanford Medicine and published in JAMA Network Open, examined the health records of nearly 10,000 preschool-aged children ages 3 to 5 between 2016 and 2023 who were diagnosed with ADHD.

"ADHD is a disorder characterized by difficulty paying attention, or what we call hyperactivity, which is sort of like kids that have a hard time sitting still, they have a lot of energy," explained Jamie Howard, a senior clinical psychologist with the Child Mind Institute, which specializes in treating anxiety and mood disorders in children.

Howard, who was not involved in the study, said that when treating ADHD in young children, clinical guidelines call for starting with "behavioral intervention."

"We always want to start with the lowest possible harm," Howard said. "It does very little harm doing a behavioral intervention."

The Stanford study found that about 68% of those children who were diagnosed with ADHD were prescribed medications before age 7, most often stimulants such as Ritalin, which can help children focus their attention and regulate their emotions.
