Ottawa tried to renegotiate the document, first ratified in 1964, in December hoping to get it signed and sealed before Trump was re-elected.

“You have millions of gallons of water pouring down from the north with the snow caps in Canada, and all pouring down and they have essentially a very large faucet,” Trump said during the election campaign in September, referring to the Columbia River.

“You turn the faucet and it takes one day to turn it, and it’s massive, it’s as big as the wall of that building right there behind you. You turn that, and all of that water aimlessly goes into the Pacific, and if they turned it back, all of that water would come right down here and right into Los Angeles.”

For students of Canadian history, the Columbia River’s headwaters originate near Cranbook on the western slopes of the Rocky Mountains. David Thompson crossed Athabasca Pass in the winter of 1811 — another period of conflict with the Americans — ultimately opening a 2,000 kilometre trade route to the Pacific Ocean.

According to his SEDI filings, Carney first received grants for both DSRs and options on December 16, 2022 followed by further option grants on Feb. 16, 2023 and Feb. 16, 2024," the executive told the Western Standard.

"The DSR and option grants total 537,258 shares. Carney purchased a further 1,878 DSRs under an employee purchase plan for a total holding of 539,136 shares. There is no price provided for the 1,878 DSRs he purchased, so I assumed the closing price on the date of purchase."

"The weighted average exercise price on the aggregate DSRs and options is approximately $47.55 per share," said the executive.

"The number is approximate because the grants are recorded in $US and I’ve converted them to $CDN based on FX conversions on the day before the grants were made. Brookfield stock closed on Feb. 19, 2024 at $86.26 per share, so Carney’s holdings are in-the-money to the tune of $20,869,325."

While Carney worked at Brookfield — first as vice chair and head of ESG and impact fund investing starting in August 2020, and later as chair from August 2022 until January, 2025.

A Canadian military organization shared a photo last week of a CAF member in full uniform wearing a Palestinian-style keffiyeh, a clothing item frequently used today by activists to show solidarity with anti-Israel terrorist groups such as the PLO and Hamas.

The Canadian Joint Operations Command shared the photo to promote “World Radio Day” as the fully uniformed individual kneels over a map with a radio and a rifle underarm. Notably, the servicemember is not in a desert setting – where historically keffiyeh’s or shemaghs, as they are alternatively known, have been worn by non-Arab soldiers to protect their faces from sand.

The scarf around his neck appears to be a keffiyeh. This traditional Middle Eastern headscarf has been used as a symbol of armed resistance against Israel since the Arab revolt in the English territory of Palestine in 1936 during the period known as the “Arab Revolt.”

The two main demands of the armed uprising were an end to Jewish immigration and an end to the British occupation of the region. The rebels’ leadership ordered every man to wear the keffiyeh to show solidarity and give cover to the fighters who wore them so the British wouldn’t be able to distinguish combatants from civilians.

Later, the headscarf became repopularized by the former leader of the Palestine Liberation Organization, a listed terrorist entity in Canada, Yasser Arafat. Arafat famously shaped the keffiyeh into a map of Palestine, which included Israel. It’s used today by anti-Israel protesters to show solidarity with the people of Palestine against Israelis. It has also been worn by anti-Israel terrorists in the killing of Israeli citizens.

“The clothing article in question, and as appearing within said photo, is a remnant of Afghanistan-era garb as worn by many soldiers during and since that mission, particularly during training events and exercises,” Cheryl Forrest a representative for the Department of National Defence told True North. “Members have certain discretion to wear preferred articles of clothing to guard against the elements, notably during training activities, provided these items comply with dress standards.”

A look at the Facebook post by the CJOC shows viewers of the post engaging in it as if it were a political statement. One user said, “Free Palestine,” and used a Palestinian flag emoji. NBC Universal has settled a lawsuit on behalf of MSNBC with a doctor the network falsely accused of committing numerous hysterectomies on female detainees at an ICE facility in rural Georgia.

The stories aired on MSNBC shows back in September 2020 hosted by the likes of Nicolle Wallace, Chris Hayes and Rachel Maddow, as well as various NBC News reports.

Amin was even dubbed as the “uterus collector,” despite no evidence he ever engaged in such activities.

The obstetrician-gynecologist responded to the reports by filing a lawsuit against NBCUniversal, demanding $20 million in punitive damages and a further $10 million in compensatory damages.

His lawsuit accused the network of portraying him as “an abusive, unethical, and dishonest physician who treated and operated on immigrant women in an abusive fashion, without consent, and motivated by profit instead of quality healthcare.”

Last June, U.S. District Judge Lisa Godbey Wood ruled that “the undisputed evidence establishes that multiple NBC statements are false.” Continue…

The Distant Early Warning Line (DEW Line) runs north of the Arctic Circle from Alaska in the west to Baffin Island in the east, then continues across Greenland.

It was built by the United States, with the cooperation of Canada, at the height of the Cold War in the 1950s as a defence against the Soviet Union.

Most of the self-sufficient bases on this line had a paved runway, with equipment and personnel necessary to keep the runway cleared. The bases had to be operational for the dozens of fighter planes that were kept at the ready by U.S. Strategic Air Command, in case Soviet jets came over the North Pole.

Most of those sites fell into disuse, and the DEW Line became the North Warning System. Not much has happened since then.

Although the federal government has promised to address the deterioration of our defences, nothing of substance has been done by Ottawa to deal more effectively with the defence of our vast North. Similarly, although the government has promised to modernize its NORAD (North American Aerospace Defence Command) commitments, it has been largely ignored.

USAF Public Affairs described the photo, taken by an onboard camera designed to monitor the X-37's "health and safety," as showing Earth in the distant background during a series of "experiments in a highly elliptical orbit in 2024."

"As part of the X-37 B's seventh mission, the vehicle executed a series of first-of-its-kind maneuvers, called aerobraking, to safely change its orbit using minimal fuel," the public affairs office said.

The top-secret spaceplane, built by Boeing and operated by the Air Force Rapid Capabilities Office and the Space Force, has spent years in space quietly conducting classified missions. Its real purpose has yet to be revealed.

With each successive top-secret mission, the X-37B spends long and longer time in orbit:

OTV-1: launched on Apr. 22, 2010 and landed on Dec. 3, 2010, spending over 224 days in orbit.

The agency reported on the matter on Saturday, citing three US officials familiar with the plans. According to Reuters, the Ukrainians were threatened with an “imminent shutoff” of Musk’s Starlink satellite service during a meeting between Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky and Trump’s envoy, Keith Kellogg, in Kiev this week, should they not sign the deal on rare earths with Washington.

Musk took to his social media platform X later in the day, denying the existence of such plans and accusing Reuters of “lying.”

His remarks followed the 2019 decision to deny accreditation to Rebel News Network and the True North Centre for Public Policy at that year’s televised leaders' debates. In an affidavit, Rebel News alleged that the Gallery’s governance raised serious conflicts of interest. “The government-influenced Canadian Parliamentary Press Gallery governing access to official Ottawa media availabilities has outright banned Rebel News,” it stated.

Gallery accreditation decisions are made behind closed doors by an executive committee, where a majority of members currently represent CBC and Canadian Press. Of the 46 media companies accredited, 39 receive federal grants and subsidies.

Survey finds majority of Canadians support deeper immigration cuts

A federal survey has revealed that a 16% reduction in Canada’s immigration quota this year did not go far enough, with many Canadians calling for even deeper cuts.

According to the report, 54% of Canadians believe too many immigrants are coming to the country. The strongest support for further reductions came from Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Ontario.

The survey also found that the recent cuts outlined in the Immigration Levels Plan failed to meet public expectations.

Last October, the federal government announced plans to lower the number of annual landed immigrants from 471,800 to 395,000 in 2025.

However, according to the 2025 Online Tracking Survey, 52% of respondents still felt that number was too high. Even when informed that 395,000 represented a 20% drop from previous targets, 44% of respondents maintained that the figure remained excessive.

When asked why they felt this way, 40% cited housing concerns, 25% worried about unemployment, and 22% believed Canada should prioritize its own citizens. Another 9% mentioned concerns over insufficient social or cultural integration.

Regional breakdowns showed that 61% of Albertans felt immigration levels were too high, followed by 59% in Saskatchewan, 58% in Ontario, and 56% in British Columbia. Other provinces also reflected similar sentiments, with lower percentages recorded in Québec (44%) and Newfoundland and Labrador (39%). Continue…

Scientists at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have discovered cancer cells originating in a common tapeworm may take root in people with weakened immune systems, causing cancer-like tumors. It is the first known case of a person becoming ill from cancer cells that arose in a parasite – in this case, Hymenolepis nana, the dwarf tapeworm.

The report, in the Nov. 5 issue of the New England Journal of Medicine, raises concern that other similar cases, if they occur, may be misdiagnosed as human cancer – especially in less developed countries where this tapeworm and immune-system-suppressing illnesses like HIV are widespread.

“We were amazed when we found this new type of disease – tapeworms growing inside a person essentially getting cancer that spreads to the person, causing tumors,” said Atis Muehlenbachs, M.D., Ph.D., staff pathologist in CDC’s Infectious Diseases Pathology Branch (IDPB) and lead author of the study. “We think this type of event is rare. However, this tapeworm is found worldwide and millions of people globally suffer from conditions like HIV that weaken their immune system. So there may be more cases that are unrecognized. It’s definitely an area that deserves more study.”

As Jim Hoft reported earlier this month, Trump signed a landmark executive order that ensured biological men could not compete in women’s sports.

The executive order directs the Department of Education to enforce Title IX based on biological sex, threatening to withhold federal funding from educational institutions that allow transgender women to compete in women’s sports. In the event that the Department of Education is dismantled, other agencies will take over.

On Monday night, a biological boy calling himself “Katie Spencer” from Greely High School in Cumberland, Maine, easily won first place in the girls’ state championship meet.

Fox News reported that he outleaped every female by at least half a foot.

Adding insult to injury, Spencer’s pole vault was the main reason his track and field team won the Class B state championship meet by ONE POINT.

The three People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) vessels have traversed the Australian coastline for the past week with no indication of their motives, and came within 150 nautical miles (277 kilometres on land) of Sydney on Feb. 19.

Several flight have been re-routed, including Qantas and Emirates aircraft, following advice that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) warships had been “live firing in international waters” on Feb. 21.

“As a precaution, we have advised airlines with flights planned in the area,” an Airservices Australia spokesperson said.

“We are also working together to coordinate advice to operators and pilots.”

Australian and New Zealand Defence Forces have been tracking the flotilla since last week.

The weapons firing is understood to be taking place 346 nautical miles (640 kilometres) off Eden, south of Sydney in New South Wales, according to a Defence Department spokesperson.

In a statement, Air New Zealand said it “has modified flight paths as needed to avoid the area, with no impact on our operations.”

Qantas and its subsidiary Jetstar told RNZ they are working with the Australian government to monitor the situation.
