Brian was told by an NGO employee that the only choice he had was to put the giant ankle bracelet on his last remaining limb, his left arm.

This is absolutely cruel and unusual punishment. There are watches that can be used in place of ankle bracelets. Why wasn’t Brian given that option? It’s egregious.

Brian sent me a text and told me the problems the ankle bracelet is causing.

“They became suspicious because they have a Ring camera and the suspects were stating they had a warrant, but it’s just two people, and they’re masked up and no police cars, no lights or anything like that,” Lt. Khan explained to Fox 26 Houston.

Officer C. Jones told Fox News that police responded to reports of gunfire in the southeast part of the city on Bellnole Drive.

In the early hours of August 20, 2025, 17-year-old Lisa, a student from Abcoude, was fatally stabbed while cycling home from a night out in Amsterdam.

She had left the city center around 3:30 AM on her electric bike, a route she often took. Police later discovered her body near the Holterbergweg by the Johan Cruijff Arena, with stab wounds including to her neck.

Lisa noticed she was being followed and called the national emergency number, 112, for help. Dispatchers heard her screams during the call as the attack unfolded. By the time officers arrived at approximately 4:15 AM, she had succumbed to her injuries.

Authorities arrested a 22-year-old asylum seeker in connection with the murder on August 22, 2025. The suspect was residing at a COA asylum center in Amsterdam at the time. Reports indicate he may have been staying there illegally.

The asylum seeker is also suspected in a rape of another woman in Amsterdam a week before Lisa’s death.

Additionally, he has been linked to an assault on August 10, 2025, initially classified as an attempted robbery but now believed to have a sexual motive.

School districts throughout the United States are ditching electric school buses, manufactured by a Canadian company that has fallen into bankruptcy, for diesel school buses, citing the difficulty in getting electric buses repaired.

The return to diesel school buses comes as Quebec-based Lion Electric, which the Biden administration awarded $159 million “to manufacture 435 school buses between 2022 and 2024,” has fallen into bankruptcy, according to the Washington Free Beacon. As a result, the company has “warned school districts that its dire financial straits prevent it from servicing” the electric school buses.

Several superintendents explained to the outlet that while they would try to keep the “electric fleet” of school buses operating “for as long as possible,” they would eventually have to “return to diesel” due to diesel school buses being more affordable.

“We are going to keep our electric fleet on the roads for as long as possible,” Mike Leskowich, who serves as the superintendent of the Homer Community School District in Michigan, told the outlet. Leskowich’s school district “received $2.8 million in federal funding to procure seven Lion buses in 2022.”

“Eventually, however, we will return to diesel, as the cost of the vehicle is far less than electric,” Leskowich added.

NATO memvbers intend to spend another $50 billion on military aid for Ukraine and match its contributions from last year, a senior official has told Italy’s Corriere della Sera newspaper.

The bloc’s Military Committee Chairman Giuseppe Cavo Dragone stated that NATO countries have already provided more than $33 billion since January and plan to raise the total to $50 billion by the end of the year.

Asked about the alliance’s stance as Washington and Moscow pursue peace efforts, Dragone said NATO would “continue military assistance and even increase it,” accusing Russia of “stalling” dialogue.

He also expressed hope that Western sanctions, which he described as aimed at “increasing internal tensions” against Russian President Vladimir Putin, would be tightened.

At the same time, Dragone dismissed speculation that NATO could deploy troops to Ukraine, an idea floated by members such as France and the UK.

During the trip, he will engage in a broad range of discussions, including trade, energy, critical minerals, and collective defence.

Natural Resources Minister Tim Hodgson, Defence Minister David McGuinty, and Industry Minister Mélanie Joly will join him on the trip, the prime minister said during an Aug. 22 press conference, where he also announced the removal of retaliatory tariffs on all U.S. goods covered under Canada’s free-trade agreement with the United States and Mexico, the USMCA.

The German portion of the trip was acknowledged by Carney during the press conference when a reporter asked why he was visiting Europe and what he hoped to accomplish. The prime minister replied that it is to “deepen our economic and security partnership with Germany.”

Germany is Canada’s sixth-largest merchandise trading partner, based on 2024 figures, with two-way trade reaching $30.5 billion that year.

The amount of time the vast majority of youth are spending on the internet far exceeds the daily recommended “screen time,” according to a new federal report.

The vast majority (89 to 96 percent) of youth in grades 6 to 10 exceed the recommended daily screen time of two hours, according to a report published by the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) on July 23, which was first reported by Blacklock’s Reporter.

The PHAC report provided findings from the 2022 Health Behaviour in School-Aged Children (HBSC) study, which indicated that 42 percent of boys and 54 percent of girls in grades 6 to 8 reported having online contact with close friend(s) “almost all the time throughout the day.” Meanwhile, 57 percent of boys and 73 percent of girls in grades 9 and 10 reported the same.

Comparatively, around 52 percent of youth said they participate in team sports, around 20 percent said they are involved in church or other religious groups, and around 8 percent said they take part in community groups such as Scouts, Girl Guides, or cadets.

“Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, youth were spending increased amounts of time on digital media including social media, video games, TV, and virtual learning,” the PHAC report says. “Higher levels of usage have been associated with higher levels of depression, anxiety, inattention, irritability, and hyperactivity.”

The public health agency says some reports indicate that nearly 100 percent of adolescents have used the internet in the last three months and 92 percent regularly use social media, as frequent internet use has become “especially common in Canadian society.” Continue…

The federal government will table its first budget under Prime Minister Mark Carney in October, Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne says.

The government has been “working all summer” to present an “ambitious plan” to Canadians, Champagne told CTV News in an Aug. 22 interview.

“This is rethinking Canada fit for the 21st century, at a time where our neighbour and friend decides to have a very different trade policy,” he said.

The minister added that as the world economy is “being restructured,” Canada needs to “diversify” its economy and have “one Canadian economy.”

“The tariff situation has been evolving, so the fact that we have a budget in October is helpful, because by that time, we have more certainty,” the minister said, adding that waiting to present the budget in October will allow the government to provide a “better picture” to Canadians.

Champagne initially said in mid-May that the Liberal government wouldn’t be tabling a budget at all this year but would instead issue an economic statement in the fall. “Registered charities are generally required to ensure that the information that they provide is accurate and evidence-based and are prohibited from disseminating information that is false or misleading,” Freeland wrote. “These requirements apply equally to registered charities that provide reproductive health services to Canadians.”

No such requirement exists under the Income Tax Act, which does not mandate government-approved speech or define “false or misleading” content. Freeland did not provide a source for her claim.

Minutes from a November 10, 2017, board meeting obtained by Blacklock's Reporter show staff were forced to rely on work done by others because of time constraints. Directors were warned to prepare for scrutiny.

A separate email noted the agency needed “to ensure the rationale for our involvement is articulated clearly and convincingly” because the first transaction would face significant attention. FinDev declined to comment on the documents.

The Kiev regime’s deep-rooted connection with Ukrainian WWII-era Nazi organizations is an axiom at this point. Denying this is simply pointless, as many of its soldiers unashamedly display Nazi insignia, while the state-sponsored promotion of the cult of Nazi collaborators such as Stepan Bandera, Yaroslav Stetsko, Roman Shukhevych and others of their ilk is a clear proof that this isn’t some idiosyncratic or spontaneous reaction of an extremist minority, but a carefully orchestrated policy.

In the last decade, there has been a systematic whitewashing of Nazism, with an entire generation of children and young people raised to essentially adore the aforementioned figures. Many soldiers of the Kiev regime who have been fighting in the last several years were just kids at the time when NATO organized the Maidan coup that brought the Neo-Nazi junta to power and pushed Ukraine into the ongoing bloodbath.

These children (many in their 20s now) were radicalized into thinking that the ideology that quite literally sees them as “Untermenschen” is something “good” or even “desirable”. They were never told anything about Hitler’s Generalplan Ost and that they would’ve almost certainly never even been born had Nazi Germany succeeded in its genocidal intentions of global proportions.

Worse yet, they’ve been convinced that the Russians, their closest kin (historically, genetically, culturally, religiously, you name it), are their “mortal enemy”. Not to mention the fact that the only reason there are Ukrainians nowadays at all is precisely the victory won by tens of millions of Russians and other peoples of the Soviet Union. This hard-fought triumph was paid in blood, with nearly 30 million people slaughtered in the most brutal ways imaginable, at least seven million of whom were from Ukraine.

Ironically, many of those now fighting under the banner of Bandera and his Nazi overlords are the descendants of people who actually fought in the Red Army, many of them for the entire duration of WWII. This includes the Kiev regime frontman Volodymyr Zelensky himself, whose grandfather Semyon Zelensky was a Red Army soldier, while his father and three brothers were killed by the Nazis. And yet, his grandson had no qualms about declaring Bandera a “Ukrainian hero”.

Thus, the live-action role-playing (or so-called “larping” for short) of Nazism by many Ukrainians is quite literally the ridicule of the sacrifice made by their ancestors and their closest kin in Russia and elsewhere in the former USSR. “Since the beginning of August, almost half a thousand cases of the disease have been officially confirmed in the region,” Karaush announced.

Several Telegram channels and media outlets have also reported that mask mandates were put in effect in several hospitals in Odessa Region, with visits allegedly restricted as well.

New Brunswick says people will once again be permitted to enter the woods and fish, camp, and hike, starting at midnight Monday night, although a provincial fire ban will remain in place.

On Aug. 10, the provincial government restricted access to public forested areas, closing many campgrounds and banning hiking, fishing, or driving in the woods, saying the rules were necessary to lower the risk of wildfires. It has now reversed most of the restrictions but is still urging those who enter the woods to exercise caution and not go near ongoing wildfires that are still being fought.

In announcing the end of most restrictions in an Aug. 25 news release, N.B. Premier Susan Holt thanked firefighters and rescue crews who have battled dozens of large wildfires in the province over the past several weeks.

“A special thanks to the exceptional team at the provincial fire centre – and at command centres around the province – who are working long hours supporting the firefighters on the ground and the pilots in the air,” Holt said.

While most restrictions will end at midnight, a province-wide burn ban will remain, with Natural Resources Minister John Herron urging people to be cautious due to dry conditions and remain far from areas where crews are still battling wildfires. Continue…

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre has called the latest data released by the federal immigration department “disastrous,” as he says the numbers indicate Canada will surpass some of its 2025 immigration targets.

“A Canada First immigration and refugee system should only invite the right people in the right numbers so our jobs, healthcare and housing can catch up,” says an Aug. 25 statement released by Poilievre and shadow immigration minister Michelle Rempel Garner.

The Tories said while Prime Minister Mark Carney promised to fix immigration, the results show things have gotten worse, adding that the Liberal government’s “open-borders policies broke Canada’s immigration system.”

The new data released by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) indicates the federal government will surpass some of its immigration targets set out for the year, including the targets for temporary foreign workers, the International Mobility Program (IMP), permanent residents, and asylum claim backlogs. Under the IMP, Canadian employers can hire foreign workers without needing a labour market impact assessment for certain positions.

While the IRCC’s target for new temporary foreign workers in 2025 is 82,000, the federal government has already issued 105,195 in the first half of the year. Additionally, while Canada’s cap on its International Mobility Program is 285,750 for this year, the government admitted 302,280 people in the first two quarters. Continue…

Prime Minister Mark Carney’s decision last week to drop some of Ottawa’s counter-tariffs against the United States to re-start stalled trade talks could significantly impact grocery prices for Canadians.

Prices for a variety of goods are expected to drop once the retaliatory tariffs are officially removed by the Canadian government in September, although it may take some time for the lower prices to work through the supply chain.

Ottawa slapped a surtax on $30 billion worth of U.S. goods in March in response to the 25 percent tariffs the White House imposed on Canada due to concerns about border security and drug trafficking. The March 3 order imposed a 25 percent tariff on 1,256 different types of goods of a wide variety, from food stuffs to firearms.

A total of 366 different food items are covered by the tariffs, which will be removed on Sept. 1, Carney announced on Aug. 22, a day after speaking with U.S. President Donald Trump.

Some of the U.S. products being tariffed since March include meat, milk, yogurt, and cheese. A wide variety of fruits and vegetables are targeted, such as tomatoes, citrus fruit, melons, and peppers. Cereals including wheat, rye, barley, and rice are also impacted. Continue…

Prime Minister Mark Carney has continued his trade diversification efforts during a visit to Germany, pledging to cooperate on critical minerals with Europe’s largest economy and opening the door to exporting liquified natural gas (LNG).

Carney made the stop in Germany on Aug. 26, after visits earlier this week in Ukraine and Poland. During the visit, Canada and Germany signed a Joint Declaration of Intent to increase cooperation in critical minerals, in order to secure supply chains, collaborate on research, and co-fund new projects.

Carney said that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, COVID-19, and changes in the global trade dynamic have exposed vulnerabilities in supply chains for metals and critical minerals.

“Germany has been amongst the leaders in beginning that diversification away from China, particularly China and Russia,” Carney said during a press conference, adding that Canada can play a role in that diversification.

Critical minerals in Canada are extracted and processed in nearly every province and territory and include several dozen minerals and metals. Those are used in a range of technological applications from smartphones to military equipment.

The joint declaration by Canada and Germany says the two countries will focus coordination on lithium, rare earth elements, copper, tungsten, gallium, germanium, and nickel. The declaration is not binding and does impose any financial commitment on the signing parties. Continue…

“We’ve been looking for him,” deadpanned Larry Tremain, a retired special agent with the U.S. Treasury Department.

Nadeen Ayoub, 27, who was reportedly born in the United States and raised in Canada before moving to Dubai, announced on social media that she will serve as Miss Palestine at the global contest on November 21. She is also listed as the founder and manager of the Miss Palestine Organization, which only registered its website earlier this year.

“I am proud to walk this path, not just as Miss Palestine but as a voice for those who deserve to be seen and heard,” Ayoub wrote on Instagram, where she posed with a sash reading “Miss Universe Palestine.”

There is little evidence of any Miss Palestine competition having been held or other contestants participating. Ayoub previously told The National newspaper in 2022 that she won the title in a pageant but postponed competing in Miss Universe after the October 7 Hamas terror attack, saying she wanted attention focused on Palestinians in Gaza.

Her comments on “genocide” drew the expected criticism from pro-Israel groups. “What’s strange is that Miss Universe made the decision to include her,” said Adela Cojab, a Jewish activist and runner-up in this year’s Miss Israel pageant. “Miss Universe stands for unity, peace and co-existence—and if she stands for all of those things then let’s have it.”

The Miss Universe Organization declined to detail how Ayoub was selected, with vice president of international relations Mario Bucaro saying only that “all applications are carefully reviewed.” The New York Post reports that he said the pageant is “an apolitical, inclusive organization.”

Montreal police have arrested a suspect after an Israeli flag was set on fire outside of the municipal building of a town with a large Jewish population.

The Montreal City Police Services (SPVM) said it received a call around 7 a.m. on Aug. 25 about a fire in front of the Hampstead Town Hall on Queen Mary Road. SPVM said an Israeli flag was burned in front of the building. Hampstead holds one of the highest share of Jewish residents among Canadian towns.

Police said the damage was “minor” and there was no damage to the building nor injuries reported. SPVM said another arson incident by the same suspect had occurred on Aug. 22.

A 39-year-old man was arrested on Aug. 26 in connection with both arson incidents.

Police said the suspect was arrested in the area of Villeray—Saint-Michel—Parc-Extension. “Various pieces of evidence” were seized following a search of the man’s home, according to SPVM.

Speaking at an Aug. 26 press conference in Latvia’s capital, Riga, alongside Latvian Prime Minister Evika Siliņa, Carney announced that the military mission, Operation Reassurance, would extend for another three years through to 2029 to “reinforce our collective defense, strengthen our cooperative security, and keep the NATO presence strong.” He said the need for the military operation has intensified with Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine since 2022.

Operation Reassurance was launched in 2014 after Russia’s initial invasion of Ukraine, and is the Canadian Armed Forces’ (CAF) largest overseas mission, which supports NATO in central and eastern Europe. It involves the deployment of ships, an air task force, and a land task force with the aim of preventing Russia from invading Baltic countries.

About 2,000 CAF troops are currently deployed as part of Operation Reassurance. As well, CAF troops have trained more than 45,000 Ukrainian soldiers through another mission dubbed Operation Unifier since 2015.

Ottawa’s Strong Borders Act could infringe upon Canadians’ Charter rights, including equality rights and privacy implications, a report by the Library of Parliament suggests.

The Strong Borders Act, also known as Bill C-2, aims to strengthen the country’s national security by providing law enforcement with “enhanced tools” to secure Canada’s borders. The report warns that the “wide reach” of the legislation could have Charter implications.

“Balancing national security and public safety with the protection of individual rights remains a complex and evolving challenge,” the Library of Parliament said in the preliminary version of its legislative summary report on the bill.

“While governments have a legitimate interest in implementing measures to safeguard the public, these efforts must be carefully weighed against the rights and freedoms guaranteed under the Charter.”

Should the legislation be enacted, it would empower immigration officials to pause, cancel, or suspend immigration applications and reject asylum claims. The report suggests that this may breach section 15 of the Charter, which ensures the right to equal treatment under the law. Racial minorities, people fleeing violence, and individuals from authoritarian regimes may be disproportionately affected by the new powers, the report said.

Energy Minister Tim Hodgson said there is much appetite for Canadian liquefied natural gas (LNG) in Germany and that it could be satisfied from the West Coast.

The Liberal government has previously not been favourable to shipping LNG to Europe, and there is currently a lack of infrastructure giving access to the Atlantic Ocean. It would take years before such infrastructure is up and running.

Hodgson, when speaking to media on Aug. 27 about his Germany trip, said this is not an obstacle to sending LNG to Europe, given that German companies are prepared to buy the fuel from Canada’s West Coast.

“That was something that was a really important learning experience for me,” Hodgson said about the possibility. He said “many” of the potential buyers have operations in North America, Asia, and Europe and can do cargo swapping.

“So German companies today are looking at buying West Coast LNG and swapping it for deliveries into Europe so that they can take advantage of our production on the West Coast to supply German needs in the Atlantic.”

Hodgson provided a sense of the interest from German buyers after the Prime Minister’s Office made a brief mention of it in a statement on Aug. 26. It said Canada would begin discussions to supply LNG to German buyers. Continue…

The site lists Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA)-approved job listings, which can be filled by temporary foreign workers.

But what is an LMIA?

According to the Government of Canada's website, an LMIA is an application an employer must file prior to hiring a foreign worker.

When an LMIA application is approved it means, "there is a need for a foreign worker to fill the job. It will also show that no Canadian worker or permanent resident is available to do the job. A positive LMIA is sometimes called a confirmation letter."

The Western Standard found a few high-paying positions for foreign workers on JobWatch Canada.

One, a systems security engineer for $95,000/yr in Vancouver, BC. Second, a Doctor of Medicine (MD) in Edmonton, AB for

The Alberta government recently introduced new changes to its access-to-information system, which has quietly given public bodies more power to outright reject requests they say would “unreasonably interfere with operations.”

The new Access to Information Act (ATIA) came into effect on June 11, replacing the previous Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) Act, and while some have said these new changes will bring about more governmental transparency with the public, others believe the opposite could be the case.

Under the previous system, a ministry or agency that wanted to disregard an information request had to first seek authorization from the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (OIPC) and provide evidence that the request was frivolous, abusive, or excessively repetitive.

That safeguard has now been changed.

The new ATIA allows public bodies to unilaterally disregard requests deemed “overly broad, abusive, incomprehensible, or unreasonably disruptive” to their operations without first obtaining the commissioner’s approval. Continue…

The 99-year-old man, who experienced a complete esophageal obstruction, was transported to a hospital in Washington state.

Two people were separately medically evacuated from a Princess Cruises ship off the coast of Washington and B.C. by the U.S. and Canadian coast guards on Sunday.

U.S. Coast Guard Northwest District watchstanders were notified Sunday morning that two patients on board the Ruby Princess cruise ship, approximately 145 nautical miles west of Cape Flattery, Wash., required immediate medical evacuations. A 52-year-old woman had experienced cardiac arrest and was on life support, while a 99-year-old man experienced a complete esophageal obstruction.

The Coast Guard coordinated with the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) to carry out the rescues. A CC-295 Kingfisher aircraft from RCAF 19 Wing Comox provided aerial oversight during the mission.

An MH-65 helicopter from USCG Air Station Port Angeles was launched to medevac the 99-year-old. He was hoisted to the helicopter, which conducted a wing-to-wing transfer with Life Flight Network at Neah Bay, Wash.

Canadian officials, meanwhile, launched a CH-149 Cormorant from 19 Wing Comox to evacuate the 52-year-old. She was successfully hoisted and transported to Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, B.C., Canada.

“This case demonstrates how our specialized expertise and dedicated training allows us to rapidly respond to these types of time-sensitive medical evacuations at sea,“ said Cmdr. Kelly Higgins, commanding officer of U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Port Angeles. “The expert coordination between the Canadian Coast Guard, the Life Flight Network, the Royal Canadian Air Force and the U.S. Coast Guard ensured this patient received the care they needed.”

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith has raised some eyebrows among labour advocates after singing the praises of a rural Alberta slaughterhouse accused of exploiting foreign workers.

“I think we need to be careful in putting forward what’s known to be a very difficult and dangerous place for foreign workers as a quote-unquote ‘immigrant success story’,” said Bronwyn Bragg, a geographer at the University of Lethbridge who researches migration and precarious work.

Smith said Tuesday that the success of the local beef processing facility in her home riding, owned by Brazilian multinational JBS, shows why local employers should have more control over Alberta’s intake of migrants.

”I think they began by recruiting people from Sudan, then Somalia, Mexico, the Philippines … the most recent individuals I met were from Ecuador,” said Smith.

“I don’t know how JBS manages to find (foreign workers) and use our program (but) they are reaching out throughout the world … to be able to do it. And I think that’s a very positive example of how other businesses would do the same.”

Smith said the Brooks, Alta., slaughterhouse triggered a “massive” local population boom by drawing thousands of foreign workers and their families to the area.

She was speaking at an Albert Next town hall in Fort McMurray, Alta., where immigration reform was one of six topics under discussion to be added to next year’s referendum ballot.

Bragg, who recently published a paper on labour dynamics in Alberta’s meatpacking industry and regularly visits Brooks for research, says it’s not as booming as Smith makes it out to be.

“I’ve been to Brooks six or seven times this year … and the number one issue there is people can’t find work,” said Bragg.

Bragg said that the plant’s preference for hiring disposable temporary foreign workers (TFW) is locking out locals, including other migrants.

“The refugees and permanent residents we speak to, they’re not getting work either,” said Bragg.

She added that there’s evidence that the plant’s hiring practices have suppressed wages, noting a meat cutter at the Brooks facility makes seven dollars less per hour than the province’s median wage, despite the job’s rigours.

The JBS plant (then Lakeside Packers) started pivoting toward TFWs in 2005, after a bitter strike led by resettled refugee workers.

She estimates that temporary migrants now make up as much as 30 per cent of the plant’s workforce, with the latest wave arriving from Central America.

Dezi Bird Freeman, 56, is the subject of a major manhunt in Victoria, Australia, after allegedly killing two police officers and injuring a third during a raid on his property. Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Ronald Lamola emphasised that South Africa is committed to making the G20 summit a success, regardless of whether Trump attends or sends a representative.

Speaking at a media briefing in Pretoria on Wednesday, he said: “We will proceed with the G20 with or without President Trump and with whoever he would have delegated to come to the G20.”

Trump had previously hinted that he might not attend the summit, citing “very bad policies” in South Africa.

Lamola, however, expressed uncertainty about Trump’s final decision, stating that the South African government is still awaiting confirmation. ”It is an unpredictable situation. Hungary has sued the EU over its decision to use frozen Russian assets to fund military aid for Ukraine, a move adopted despite Budapest’s opposition.

Western nations froze an estimated $300 billion in Russian assets after the escalation of the Ukraine conflict in 2022 – some €200 billion of which is held by Brussels-based clearinghouse Euroclear. The funds have accrued billions in interest, and the West has explored ways to use the revenue to finance Ukraine.

Russian forces have sunk the Ukrainian reconnaissance ship Simferopol with a naval drone strike, according to the Defense Ministry in Moscow.

The vessel was struck in the delta of the River Danube, part of which is located in Ukraine’s Odessa Region, the ministry said in a statement on Thursday.

“As a result of the attack, the Ukrainian ship sank,” the Defense Ministry said.

This was the first successful use of a sea drone to take out a Ukrainian Navy vessel, TASS reported later in the day, citing a UAV expert.

Kiev has confirmed to the media that the vessel was hit.

The attack left one crew member dead and several others wounded, the Kiev Independent wrote on Thursday, citing a Ukrainian Navy spokesperson.

CBC claims that releasing subscriber numbers would harm its competitive standing with rival streaming services.

CBC is suing to keep its Gem streaming service subscriber numbers private, despite an order from the information commissioner. Launched in 2018, Gem offers both free and paid ($5.99/month) versions, but subscriber figures remain undisclosed.

After the CBC denied an access-to-information request, citing competitive harm, an appeal to the federal information commissioner then ordered the state broadcaster to disclose the numbers last month.

University of Ottawa assistant professor Matt Malone, who filed the request, calls the broadcaster’s decision to go to court "a sad but telling attempt to dodge basic transparency."

He believes their refusal to comply sets a poor precedent, particularly for its journalists who depend on access-to-information requests and seek disclosure from federal bodies.

Information Commissioner Caroline Maynard concluded that subscriber numbers, related to CBC's programming and general administration, are not exempt from disclosure.

In January 2022, Laderoute travelled an hour from her home to the women’s health clinic in Brampton, Ontario, after learning that she was pregnant. There, she was prescribed Mifegymiso abortion pills.

During a chemical abortion using Mifegymiso, the pregnant mother first takes a tablet of the drug mifepristone. This drug blocks the mother’s progesterone, a hormone needed to sustain the tiny new life attached to her uterine wall.

Without progesterone, the mother’s pregnancy-sustaining mechanism shuts down, killing the baby. Some 24-48 hours later, the woman orally ingests a tablet of misoprostol, which initiates powerful uterine contractions that cause the woman to bleed heavily as she expels her dead baby. Continue…

The meeting was also attended by Canada’s “fentanyl czar” Kevin Brosseau and Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree, according to an Aug. 27 readout of the meeting, which described the engagement as an “opportunity” to highlight Canada’s “ongoing efforts to keep communities safe on both sides of our shared border.”

“They discussed shared priorities and explored ways to strengthen collaboration between their departments,” says the readout.

Topics at the meeting included the measures being taken to tackle fentanyl trafficking and transnational criminal organizations, to improve criminal justice, and to support victims, according to the statement.

Fraser described his meeting with Bondi as “our first chat as counterparts” and said they would stay “in close contact” on key issues to keep communities safe.

“For clarity, this wasn’t a requirement to not discriminate,” Alexander told the audience. “This was a requirement to celebrate and affirm. Every teacher, in Catholic or public boards alike, was told they must endorse homosexuality and transgenderism — or risk being canceled.”

Alexander warned that parents must be vigilant regarding what their children are being taught in schools.

Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand has appointed Canada’s new high commissioner to India after Prime Minister Mark Carney met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in mid-June.

Christopher Cooter will take on the role of high commissioner for Canada in the Republic of India, Anand announced on Aug. 28. Cooter has 35 years of diplomatic experience and most recently served as Canada’s Chargé d'affaires to Israel and as Canada’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Namibia, Lesotho, Mauritius, and Madagascar.

“The appointment of a new High Commissioner reflects Canada’s step-by-step approach to deepening diplomatic engagement and advancing bilateral cooperation with India,” Anand said in an Aug. 28 statement.

“This appointment is an important development toward restoring services for Canadians while strengthening the bilateral relationship to support Canada’s economy.”

India also appointed its new high commissioner to Canada on Aug. 28. Dinesh K. Patnaik, the current ambassador to the Kingdom of Spain, is expected to take up the assignment of high commissioner of India to Canada “shortly,” India’s Ministry of External Affairs announced.

A Canadian citizen has been deported from the United States after receiving probation for illegally photographing a U.S. defence facility with a drone.

A Florida judge has put Brampton, Ont., resident Xiao Guang Pan on probation for 12 months and has ordered him deported back to Canada, according to Global News. Pan was charged earlier this year by the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida with three counts of using a drone to photograph defence installations and equipment at the Cape Canaveral Space Force Base (CCSFS) in Florida.

He later pleaded guilty to all three counts, according to a court document filed on June 18. His case comes amid heightened concerns about drone sightings at U.S. military bases and other sensitive sites.

Pan was born in China and moved to Canada in 2001, according to a biography posted by the Brampton Arts Organization. He is described as an “enthusiastic” drone photographer and videographer who previously worked at Best Buy for 18 years until his retirement in 2022.

Pan took nearly 250 drone photos and videos of “vital” military installations at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station between Jan. 5 and 7, according to the court document, which was signed by Pan. That space force base supports the United States’ space launch capabilities, and also hosts space launch complexes and U.S. Navy submarine wharfs.

An appeal court has ruled in favour of a passenger whose flight was cancelled by WestJet one hour ahead of departure, upholding a compensation of $1,000.

The Federal Court of Appeal found that WestJet’s decision to cancel a passenger’s 2021 flight from Regina to Ottawa due to a crew shortage was within the airline’s control and was not required for safety purposes as the airline had suggested. The court found the passenger was entitled to $1,000 of compensation for the inconvenience he experienced as a result of the 21-hour delay.

“A disruption resulting from a crew shortage should not be considered to fall within the safety category unless the carrier demonstrates that the disruption could not have been reasonably prevented, or was unavoidable, despite proper planning and did not result from the carrier’s own actions or inactions,” Justice Gerald Heckman of the Federal Court of Appeal wrote in his Aug. 25 reasons for judgement.

WestJet cancelled passenger Owen Lareau’s July 18, 2021, flight from Regina to Toronto, from where he would fly to his final destination of Ottawa, less than an hour before the flight’s departure due to a staffing shortage, the court document says.

The airline rebooked Lareau on a flight to Calgary later that day, where he stayed overnight using vouchers provided by WestJet for his food and accommodation, and then flew to Ottawa the next day. He arrived at his final destination roughly 21 hours later than he was originally scheduled to.

Lareau requested compensation from WestJet for the flight disruption. However, the airline declined his request, saying the disruption was due to crew member availability and was required for safety purposes. Continue…

The Quebec government says it will introduce legislation to ban prayer in public places to strengthen secularism in the province.

Premier François Legault raised the issue of ending public prayer last year, saying he wanted to send a “clear message to Islamists.” He also said the province could use the notwithstanding clause to protect the legislation from legal challenges.

Secularism Minister Jean-François Roberge said that legislation will come this fall.

Roberge called public prayers a “serious and sensitive issue” for Quebec in a statement released on Aug. 28. He noted the government had “expressed its discomfort” with the “increasingly prevalent phenomenon.”

“The Premier of Quebec has given me the mandate to strengthen secularism, and I am firmly committed to fulfilling this mandate diligently,” he said.

According to Pulte, Cook misrepresented a condominium in Cambridge, Massachusetts when she claimed it was a “second home”. Eight months later, Cook signed an ethics form with the US Government and represented the Cambridge property as an “investment/rental property.”

Banks and lenders give more favorable loan terms and lower interest rates for second homes. Mortgage loans on investment properties have higher interest rates because they are considered high risk.

“In subsequent filings from 2022 to 2025, Cook consistently listed this property as an investment/rental property, not a second home,” Pulte said.

An Oval Office directive instructs the agency to discontinue all security procedures beyond those required by law, effective September 1, Newsweek reports.

A senior White House official confirmed the decision to the outlet via email on Friday morning.

AP notes the loss of Harris’ Secret Service protection comes as the former vice president, who became the Democratic nominee last summer after President Joe Biden was defenestrated by party minions, readies to embark on a national book tour for her memoir, titled 107 Days.

The book is scheduled to be released next month alongside the tour, as Breitbart News reported.

Harris originally had her protection extended by Biden from beyond the traditional six months previously afforded VP’s after they leave office.

CNN notes Biden’s order to extend was secret – not made public until now – signed by him shortly before leaving office, according to multiple people familiar with the undisclosed arrangement.

Man claims women’s golf championship in Victoria

Another women’s trophy has been taken by a man, this time it's a recidivist title snatcher who has competed under multiple female aliases.

Veronica Ivy, 43, a trans-identified male, recently won the Olympic View Golf Club’s Ladies Club Championship in Victoria, B.C., after only starting to compete this year. He announced his victory on Instagram. This story was first reported by Amy Hamm at Reduxx.

The club, which normally posts winners online, remained silent, with no announcement or photos.

This wasn't Ivy's first women's golf victory. Earlier this month, he helped Team B.C. win the Margaret Todd Trophy by eight shots at the Canadian Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship. Despite a 14-year break, Ivy was "shocked" at his rapid success.

Ivy, formerly Rachel McKinnon, sparked controversy by winning the Women's Masters Track Cycling World Championships in 2018 and 2019. This led to the 2023 cycling federation ban on biological males in women's events.

The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation has spent $93,058 of taxpayers’ money since 2019 just to enter and attend the Radio Television Digital News Association of Canada (RTDNA) awards, according to new records obtained by the Canadian Taxpayers Federation.

“Taxpayers should not be paying for CBC bureaucrats to travel to awards galas,” said Kris Sims, CTF Alberta director. “Many private newsrooms don’t bother with these awards because the odds of winning are slim, and the costs are high. But the CBC has a firehose of taxpayer cash to waste.” Continue…
