Diplomatic ties severed with Iran after ASIO names it as behind antisemitic attacks

Iran was behind at least two antisemitic attacks on Australian soil, ASIO believes, prompting the Australian government to sever diplomatic ties with the country.

Appearing in the prime minister's courtyard on Tuesday, the spy agency's director-general, Mike Burgess, said Melbourne's Adass Israel Synagogue attack from last December and Sydney's Lewis Continental Kitchen attack from last October were ordered by Iran and believed the country was behind further attacks.

"They put lives at risk, they terrified the community and they tore at our social fabric. Iran and its proxies literally and figuratively lit the matches and fanned the flames," he said.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said Iran was responsible for "extraordinary and dangerous acts of aggression" and attempts to "undermine Australian cohesion".

"The Australian people want two things. They want killing in the Middle East to stop, and they don't want conflict in the Middle East brought here. Iran has sought to do just that," he said.

"They have sought to harm and terrorise Jewish Australians and sow hatred and division in our community."

Iranian ambassador to Australia Ahmad Sadeghi and three other officials have been expelled, with seven days to leave. Operations at Australia's embassy in Tehran have been suspended, with all Australian diplomats already out of the country.

Foreign Minister Penny Wong said it was the first time since World War II that Australia had expelled a foreign ambassador.

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) will also be designated as a terrorist organisation, pending legislation.

Mr Burgess said the IRGC directed the attack through a series of "cut-outs" or third parties, and that some perpetrators were paid.

Massive explosion levels three homes in St. Louis

One home explodes, houses on either side burn down, 20 houses deemed unlivable.

Gas company said they hadn't detected any leaks, but could be an appliance had a leak or something. I asked a friend who works for the gas company and he said nobody really knows what caused it.

Just from knowing St. Louis, my gut tells me the news isn't giving the real reasons behind these similar cases. Back when all those food processing places were "catching fire" I remember thinking that it had to be coordinated. Two things come to mind:

1. Insurance fraud. Somehow maybe there is a kind of "explosion insurance" that pays off really high.

2. Destruction of evidence. If a pedo knows they're about to get arrested or caught, a story like this would probably cover that. Police don't want copycats, so they would never report it that way. The second explosion mentioned, the guy has the same name as someone on the sex offender registry. Couldn't verify this, but with more digging could be checked.

3. Domestic terrorism/bad guys having poor procedure and accidentally blowing up while making bombs. Wouldn't get reported for the same copycat reasoning.

4. Appliances shipped from China with known defects in the gas lines. China probably knows the equation for if it happens too many times they'd recall them but under a certain amount they wouldn't. This seems unlikely because of how localized the explosions are to one specific small area. Maybe someone working at an appliance place or as an appliance repairman could do it, but that seems far fetched.

Love to hear anon theories, as this pattern is both very obvious, but seems illogical/no explanation on the surface.
