Putin and Trump ‘will prevent WWIII’ – Kremlin envoy

Peace in Ukraine is close because the two leaders are engaged in dialogue, Kirill Dmitriev has said

Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart, Donald Trump, are bringing the end of the Ukraine conflict closer, Kirill Dmitriev, a presidential aide on international economic affairs, has said. He added that the diplomatic efforts of the two men could prevent World War III.

Dmitriev, who is also the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), the country's sovereign wealth fund, wrote on X on Saturday: “Stalin, Roosevelt & Churchill won WWII. Putin & Trump will prevent WWIII.”

He accompanied his post with a picture of the Soviet, US, and British leaders made during the historic 1945 Yalta Conference, which laid the foundations for the post-war order after the defeat of Nazi Germany.

He also pushed back against former US ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul, who suggested that Moscow is not serious about negotiations to end the conflict and urged more Western weapons for Ukraine.

“Wrong. Peace is close precisely because of Trump-Putin dialogue. Idiotic [former US President Joe] Biden’s approaches failed. Isolation attempts failed. Sanctions failed.Dialogue, respect, understanding each other, problem-solving to find [a] long-term solution is the way,” Dmitriev said.

Breaking a long hiatus in top-level talks between the US and Russia, Putin and Trump have held several phone conversations and met face-to-face in Alaska in mid-August. While no ceasefire agreement was reached at the Alaska summit, the two sides praised the engagement as highly productive. Following the talks, Trump said that Ukraine cannot hope to join NATO or reclaim Crimea.

On Friday, Putin struck a cautiously optimistic tone about the prospects for ending the conflict, noting that “there is light at the end of the tunnel,” but noted that if no diplomatic solution is found, “we will have to reach all the goals through arms.”

Moscow has insisted that a sustainable resolution to the conflict is possible only if Ukraine commits to neutrality, demilitarization, denazification, and recognizes the new territorial reality on the ground.

Heart inflammation caused by covid “vaccines” is a potential time bomb

In May, the US Food and Drug Administration ordered Pfizer and Moderna to expand the warning labels on their covid-19 vaccines to include a heightened risk of heart inflammation, specifically myocarditis and pericarditis, in males aged 16 to 25.

Although the FDA has not characterised it as such, others have noted that the risk of myocarditis is a potential “ticking time bomb” because of its often-symptomless nature.

Last month, Michel Chossudovsky shared an article published by Slay News in May, adding an introduction to it. Commenting on Chossudovsky’s article, Denis Rancourt said, “Wow. Just wow. This is social engineering repair, referred to as ‘cooling the mark out’ in criminal psychology. It is also the repair or return towards some democracy, in a period of runaway totalitarianism.”

Russia Hits Ukraine Gov’t Building Amid Drone and Missile Strikes on Kyiv

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) – Russia hit Ukraine’s capital with drone and missiles Sunday in the largest aerial attack on the country since the war began, killing at least two people and leaving smoke rising from the roof of a key government building.

Russia attacked Ukraine with 810 drones and decoys, Ukraine’s Air Force said.

Yuriy Ihnat, a spokesperson for Ukraine´s Air Force, confirmed to The Associated Press that Sunday´s attack was the largest Russian drone strike since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine began. Russia also launched 13 missiles of various types.

Ukraine shot down and neutralized 747 drones and 4 missiles, according to a statement from the Air Force.

Hits from nine missiles and 54 drones were recorded at 33 locations across Ukraine, and the debris of shot down targets fell at eight locations, the Air Force said.

Associated Press reporters saw a plume of smoke rising from the roof of Kyiv´s cabinet of ministers building, but it was not immediately clear if the smoke was the result of a direct hit or debris, which would mark an escalation in Russia´s air campaign, which has so far spared government buildings in the city center.

The building is the home of Ukraine’s Cabinet, housing the offices of its ministers. Police blocked access to the building as fire trucks and ambulances arrived.

Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klitschko said two people were killed and 20 were injured in the attack.

“For the first time, the government building was damaged by an enemy attack, including the roof and upper floors,” said Ukraine’s Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko. “We will restore the buildings, but lost lives cannot be returned.”

“The world must respond to this destruction not only with words, but with actions. There is a need to strengthen sanctions pressure – primarily against Russian oil and gas,” she said.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy echoed her sentiment in an online statement. “Such killings now, when real diplomacy could have started long ago, are a deliberate crime and a prolongation of the war,” he said. He called for sanctions on Russia and for strengthening Ukraine’s air defenses.

The two people killed were a mother and her 3-month-old child, whose bodies were dug out of the rubble by rescuers, said Tymur Tkachenko, the head of Kyiv’s city administration. Initially Tkachenko said the child was 1 year old. At least 10 locations in Kyiv were damaged in the attack, he added….

Russia denies targeting Ukrainian government building

Moscow’s forces attacked an industrial and logistics facility in Kiev, the Defense Ministry has said

Russian forces have carried out a long-range strike on Ukrainian drone assembly facilities, as well as an industrial enterprise in Kiev, the Defense Ministry in Moscow has said, adding that no other buildings were targeted. Ukraine earlier accused Russia of striking the building housing the Cabinet of Ministers in Kiev.

In a statement on Sunday, the ministry said themassive high-precision strike was aimed at facilities producing, repairing, and storing UAVs, as well as military airfields in the central, southern, and eastern parts of Ukraine.

Also targeted were the industrial enterprise ‘Kiev-67’ on the western outskirts of the Ukrainian capital and a logistics facility in the southern part of the city.

“The objectives of the strike have been achieved, all designated targets have been hit.No strikes have been carried out on other sites within the boundaries of Kiev,” the ministry stressed.

Earlier in the day, Ukrainian officials claimed that a Russian drone had crashed into the Ukrainian government building near Independence Square, with fire engulfing its top floors. They also claimed that the attack included more than 800 drones in total across the country.

According to Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky, four people died and 44 were injured in the attacks.

Russia has conducted drone and missile strikes on Ukraine for months, targeting military-related facilities and its defense industry. It has said the attacks are retaliation for Kiev’s strikes deep into Russia, which often damage residential areas and critical infrastructure. Moscow maintains that it never targets civilians.

Russian officials have also accused Ukraine of deploying air defenses in residential areas, suggesting that if Kiev were to abandon this practice, it could prevent casualties.

Who is behind the drug trade?

Stanislav Krapivnik says that the US government benefits from the drug trade and that the major US banks launder the drug money.

He argues that the US government’s actions, such as the invasion of Afghanistan, have significantly contributed to the global drug trade.

Domestically, the asset forfeiture system, which allows police to keep up to 80% of the value of assets seized during a drug bust, incentivises local police departments to allow the drug trade to continue in their towns. The police’s share of “bags of cash” from the sale of drugs is worth more than the share from confiscated drugs.

Stanislav Krapivnik is a Russian-American who was born in Donbass during the Soviet era and migrated to the United States as a child. He served in the US Army and participated in NATO missions in Romania, but left the service during NATO’s intervention in Yugoslavia in the 1990s, after which he returned to Russia. He is now a military affairs commentator and political analyst based in Russia, where he is known for his strong pro-Russian stance.

Krapivnik posts commentaries in the form of a podcast titled ‘In the Eyes of Truth’, in which he offers “political, military and social analyses of the real world.” On Friday, he published a commentary on who is behind the international drug trade. What has promoted this podcast is the recent events concerning Venezuela.

On 2 September, the US military conducted a precision strike on a suspected drug-carrying vessel in the southern Caribbean Sea, killing 11 people. The strike targeted a boat allegedly operated by the Tren de Aragua gang, which President Trump described as a designated foreign terrorist organisation acting under the direction of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.

The operation, carried out in international waters, is part of a broader military effort by the Trump Administration to combat drug trafficking in the region, including the deployment of seven US warships and a nuclear-powered submarine.

Explaining why he believes the US is targeting the drug supply rather than the drug demand, Krapivnik said, “The US government, on different levels, makes money off the drug trade.”

“All major US banks would collapse if they were denied drug money, big drug money. That’s where it gets laundered. It all goes right back to the US and gets laundered, and they’re making money off of it,” he said. “So, there’s already an incentive system in the US financial system … to support a drug trade.”

Suspect Behind Fatal North Carolina Train Stabbing Arrested, Charged with Murder

The suspect behind a fatal stabbing on a North Carolina train,which left a Ukrainian woman dead, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, according to multiple reports.

Decarlos Brown Jr., 34, was reportedly “arrested and charged with first-degree murder” after Iryna Zarutska, 23 was stabbed in the throat while riding the Charlotte light rail on August 22, according to WBTV News.

Per the outlet, recently released video footage “shows the moments leading up to and following” the stabbing. In an edited video of the incident, Brown is seen sitting in a seat on the train prior to Zarutska “entering the rail car and sitting down” in front of him.

One clip from the video reportedly shows Brown “taking out a pocket knife, unfolding it, standing up, and gearing up to attack Zarutska.” Brown reportedly stabbed Zarutska “three times in the throat area before walking away.”:

The first clip shows the stabbing suspect, identified as Brown, sitting on the rail car before Zarutska boards the light rail. Brown can be seen moving around in his seat and appears to be emotional.

The next clip shows one angle of Zarutska entering the rail car and sitting down in front of Brown. The clip that follows is another angle showing Zarutska entering the rail car and sitting down.

About one minute and 30 seconds into the video, Brown can be seen taking out a pocket knife, unfolding it, standing up, and gearing up to attack Zarutska. WBTV froze that clip moments before Zarutska is stabbed.

In the full video, WBTV observed the attacker swing his arm and stab Zarutska three times in the throat area before walking away. Zarutska looked visibly shocked by the attack, falling to the floor shortly after.

Another clip from the video appears to show Brown “walk away from Zarutska and move through the rail car,” with some passengers noticing blood dripping from Brown, according to the outlet.

Brown was reportedly ordered to “remain in jail and undergo a competency evaluation,” according to the outlet.

In response to the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) releasing video footage of the incident, Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles thanked “media partners and community members” for not sharing or reposting the footage “out of respect for” Zarutska’s family, according to WCNC News.

“The video of the heartbreaking attack that took Iryna Zarutska’s life is now public,” Lyles said. “I want to thank our media partners and community members who have chosen not to repost or share the footage out of respect for Iryna’s family.”

Lyles continued to express that it was a “senseless and tragic loss” and that her “prayers remain with her loved ones as they continue to grieve through an unimaginable time.”

M. Quentin Williams, a former Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agent and federal prosecutor, explained thatBrown’s attack on Zarutska “highlights broader issues surrounding mental health and public safety.” Williams also stated that the attack “happened so quickly” that Zarutska “was not in a position to respond.”

“It happened so quickly,” Williams said. “She was not in a position to respond. He caught the most vulnerable person on the train. She was in close proximity to him, she had her back to him, she also was doing something that diverted her attention away.”

‘It’s Embarrassing’: Mark Zuckerberg Roasted After Hot Mic Picks Up Comment to Trump

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg sparked a wave of mockery this week after he was caught on a hot mic suggesting to President Donald Trump he plucked a number out of his head, adding, “I wasn’t sure what number you wanted to go with.”

Zuckerberg joined Trump at a White House tech event on Thursday evening and sat next to the president. Trump asked Zuckerberg about Meta’s upcoming investments in AI infrastructure, “How much are you spending, would you say, over the next few years?”

“Oh gosh. I mean, I think it’s probably going to be something like, I don’t know, at least $600 billion through ’28 in the US,” Zuckerberg replied.

Later on a hot mic, Zuckerberg told Trump, “I’m sorry I wasn’t ready to do our– I wasn’t sure what number you wanted to go with.”

Throughout the event, Zuckerberg and the other tech titans present praised Trump and thanked him for hosting the event.

The friendly exchange between Trump and Zuckerberg is a far cry from Trump’s past rhetoric toward the tech leader, having regularly accused him of election-related crimes in the past. ” We are watching him closely, and if he does anything illegal this time he will spend the rest of his life in prison — as will others who cheat in the 2024 Presidential Election,” Trump threatened in August of 2024.

The hot mic moment quickly went viral online after it was clipped and edited together by influencers, including Acyn, and led to a bevy of criticism of the business leader for so explicitly deferring to the president.

Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon (D-PA) shared the clip and wrote, “It’s embarrassing how far Tech Billionaires will go to suck up to Trump. Now they are just making up numbers while screwing over the American People.”

Veteran reporter Paul Farhi added,“As June 30, Meta’s assets were valued at $295 billion. So $600 billion presupposes borrowing more than twice its book value. For *one year* of capital investment. It’s about the most ludicrous statement the CEO of a publicly traded company can make.”

U.S. Open Orders Broadcasters to Censor Reactions to Trump

An email obtained by Bounces includes instructions from the U.S. Open on supporting Trump's planned stagecraft during the National Anthem.

NEW YORK — Following up on the earlier news first reported by Bounces about Rolex’s invitation, I have further new information to report about the planning around presenting President Donald Trump’s appearance at the U.S. Open.

An internal email sent by the U.S. Tennis Association leadership to U.S. Open broadcasters, obtained by Bounces,requested that broadcasters censor any possible protests or other reactions to President Donald Trump’s presence at Sunday’s U.S. Open men’s final between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz.

Here’s the key text from the USTA email obtained by Bounces:

“With respect to Broadcast Coverage, the President will be shown on the World Feed and the Ashe Court Feed during the opening anthem ceremony. We ask all broadcasters to refrain from showcasing any disruptions or reactions in response to the President’s attendance in any capacity, including ENG [Electronic News Gathering] coverage.”

The USTA’s plan to show Trump during the anthem, one of the noisiest and bombastic portions of Sunday’s events, is already an effective way to insulate Trump from likely booing. But the preemptive instructions outlined by the USTA in this email—asking broadcasters to censor and avoid any possible protest or negative crowd reaction to Trump for television audiences watching around the world—is further complicity in broadcasting Trump’s desired stagecraft for his first appearance at the U.S. Open in a decade.

The email also attached the USTA’s US Open social media policy, as well as “talking points and additional facts regarding the President’s visit.” The only attached “talking point,” however, was just a statement that “President Trump is planning to watch the US Open Men’s Singles Final from a suite as a sponsor guest.”

As previously first reported on Bounces, that unnamed sponsor is Rolex, the Swiss watchmaker which may be looking to curry favor with Trump during his visit to their luxury suite in hopes of lowering the high tariffs he has imposed on imports from Switzerland.

(Rolex PR has still not replied to Bounces’inquiry about its motivations for inviting Trump to its U.S. Open suite.)

“We appreciate your understanding and cooperation,” the USTA email to broadcast personnel concludes, adding that any further questions can be brought either to the USTA Television’s managing director Patti Fallick or director of broadcasting Dayna Navatta.

If the crowd reacts anything like they did when Trump last appeared at the U.S. Open 10 years ago, he will be boisterously booed.

Though Trump being shown on the large video screens around Ashe would make for the most obvious occasion for booing or other dissent to erupt, U.S. Open attendees are also capable of chanting or booing in protest of Trump at other times of the match, which may be unavoidable for broadcasters to successfully censor if they cause any significant disruption to the match.

Belgium’s Security and Home Affairs Minister Bernard Quintin wants to put soldiers on Brussels’ streets to fight escalating drug violence, a plan that is nearing realization.

“The army has to defend the integrity of the territory. Usually, soldiers do this at our borders or far beyond them. But the war against drug crime also falls under the protection of our territory,” Quintin told De Standaard in an interview published Saturday.

The Belgian capital has been plagued by a spate of drug-related shootings. Last month, Brussels prosecutor Julien Moinil decried the escalating violence, counting 57 shootings this year, 20 of which happened over the summer.

The prosecutor — under police protection following threats from traffickers — had previously asked for €10 million to improve safety in Brussels, but said that authorities weren’t giving him the resources he needs. He warned that innocent citizens risk being pulled into the spiraling violence: “Anyone in Brussels could be hit by a stray bullet.”

In the run-up to budget negotiations, Belgium’s Justice Minister Annelies Verlinden is asking for an additional €1 billion for her department.

Quintin, a Brussels local, has branded the security situation of his hometown “catastrophic,” slamming traffickers’ brazen attitude in the city in an interview with POLITICO in May.

“I’m exaggerating, of course, but currently we’re almost in a situation where a guy comes in, unfolds his little chair, and sets up his little table and his parasol,” he said then.

Under the new plan, Quintin told De Standaard, soldiers would operate in mixed teams, patrolling together with police. Their operations would be focused around metro stations and certain districts, such as Peterbos in the Anderlecht commune in the southwest of Brussels.

The political decision to deploy soldiers has already been taken, but the details still have to be ironed out, Quintin said. He is pushing for implementation “as soon as possible.”

The legal framework to put soldiers on the streets is ready and the draft will soon be sent to the Council of Ministers, Defense Minister Theo Francken confirmed Saturday on X. “Our capital, Brussels, is a disaster in terms of security. We need to take back control,” Francken wrote.

Their plan has already raised questions: “Could we perhaps start with the €10 million Julien Moinil (Brussels prosecutor) requested to address the insecurity in our capital? No legal framework is needed for that,” commented Frédéric De Gucht, who represents the Flemish liberal Open VLD party in Brussels.

Quintin’s proposal is part of a broader “large cities” plan, which also includes increased camera surveillance among other measures. Besides the Brussels region, that plan also comprises the cities of Antwerp, Ghent, Liège, Charleroi and Mons.

Authorities’ attempts to clamp down on drug crime in Brussels come against a backdrop of prolonged political paralysis in the capital, as the Brussels region has so far failed to establish a government following elections in June 2024.

David Leisterh, the Brussels leader of Quintin’s French-speaking liberal MR party, told La Libre on Saturday that it could become necessary to organize new elections. The national leader of his party, Georges-Louis Bouchez, repeated Friday night that Brussels will “inevitably” be placed under control of the national government.

DOJ says names of two associates Epstein wired $100k and $250k to should stay secret

The Justice Department request came after NBC News asked a federal judge to unseal the names of two people Epstein paid and helped protect from prosecution.

The Justice Department on Friday asked a federal judge overseeing the case of deceased sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein to deny a request from NBC News to unseal the names of two associates who received large payments from him in 2018, court documents show. The Justice Department cited privacy concerns expressed by the two individuals as the reason for not making their names public.

The first associate received a payment of $100,000 from Epstein and the second associate received a payment of $250,000, both in 2018, days after the Miami Herald began publishing a series of investigative stories where victims criticized a plea deal he received in Florida in 2008.

As part of the plea agreement, Epstein secured a statement from federal prosecutors in Florida that the two individuals would not be prosecuted.

The payments became public after Epstein was indicted and arrested in New York in 2019 and asked to be released on bail. Federal prosecutors in New York filed a memorandum on July 16, 2019, that argued Epstein should remain in jail to prevent him from tampering with witnesses.

They cited the payments he made to the two individuals, which began two days after the Miami Herald began publishing its stories on Epstein’s plea deal, also known as a nonprosecution agreement, or NPA.

Prosecutors wrote that on Nov. 30, 2018, Epstein “wired $100,000 from a trust account he controlled, to an individual named as [REDACTED] a potential co-conspirator — and for whom Epstein obtained protection in — the NPA.”

Prosecutors also wrote that “this individual was also named and featured prominently in the Herald series.”

Prosecutors added that “the same records show that just three days later, on or about December 3, 2018, the defendant wired $250,000 from the same trust account to [REDACTED], who was also named as a potential co-conspirator — and for whom Epstein also obtained protection in — the NPA.”

The prosecutors continued: “This individual is also one of the employees identified in the Indictment, which alleges that she and two other identified employees facilitated the defendant’s trafficking of minors by, among other things, contacting victims and scheduling their sexual encounters with the defendant at his residences in Manhattan and Palm Beach, Florida.”

Prosecutors said in the filings that Epstein’s payments may be evidence of “efforts to influence witnesses.”

“This course of action, and in particular its timing,” they said, “suggests the defendant was attempting to further influence co-conspirators who might provide information against him in light of the recently re-emerging allegations.”

Last month, NBC News sent a letter asking U.S. District Judge Richard Berman to unseal the redacted names because Epstein is deceased, the criminal proceedings have ended, and the Justice Department said in a memo in July that there would be no additional charges filed against uncharged third parties.

Berman gave federal prosecutors until Sept. 5 to respond.

In a Sept. 5 reply letter, Jay Clayton, the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, wrote, “Individual-1 and Individual-2 are uncharged third parties who have not waived their privacy interests; indeed, both Individual-1 and Individual-2 have expressly objected to the unsealing of their names and personal identifying information in the July 2019 Letter.”

Clayton said the two unnamed individuals sent letters to the U.S. attorney’s office expressing their concern but that those letters are under seal.

The judge has given NBC News until Sept. 12 to respond to the Justice Department’s request that the names remain secret.

It is not known when Berman will make a ruling on NBC News’ request.

All the Water on Planet Earth

How much of planet Earth is made of water? Very little, actually. Although oceans of water cover about 70 percent of Earth's surface, these oceans are shallow compared to the Earth's radius. The featured illustration shows what would happen if all of the water on or near the surface of the Earth were bunched up into a ball. The radius of this ball would be only about 700 kilometers, less than half the radius of the Earth's Moon, but slightly larger than Saturn's moon Rhea which, like many moons in our outer Solar System, is mostly water ice. Finnish MP reveals past in prostitution

Anna Kontula has said she worked as an escort from age 16 before switching to politics

Finnish MP Anna Kontula has revealed that she was a sex worker for years before entering politics. In an interview with the new outlet Helsingin Sanomat (HS) published on Saturday, Kontula said she is not ashamed of the experience, adding that it helped shape her political career.

Kontula, 48, is serving her fourth term in the Finnish Parliament. While she has long campaigned for sex workers’ rights, she had never spoken publicly about her own experience.

Kontula told HS she began escorting at 16 while living in a student dorm, and saidthe choice came from both financial hardship and curiosity. “If I wanted to somehow make ends meet… it was a pretty rational solution,” she explained.

She worked in the industry on and off for nearly two decades and became an outspoken advocate. In 2002, she co-founded the sex workers’ union SALLI and published articles challenging public perceptions of the industry. When Finland passed a 2006 law partly restricting the purchase of sex, she saw it as a partial victory, noting it included protections for trafficking victims.

Kontula has served in parliament since 2011, continuing to campaign for sex workers’ rights. When asked why she decided to speak out now, she told HS: “Talking about the topic now can bring benefits to social debate [on sex work] and its direction.” She has announced she will not seek reelection and is training to become a social worker, including providing safe-sex education.

Kontula’s coming out has already drawn criticism. In an opinion piece published in HS on Sunday,legal psychologist Pia Puolakka called it “worrying” that the MP described sex work as “just work among others,” and argued that “normalizing sex work does not make society freer or fairer.”

“The task of a civilized state is to guarantee conditions in which no one has to sell their intimacy,” Puolakka wrote.

Prostitution is legal in Finland with some exceptions. Although Kontula was a minor when she began sex work, Finnish law did not prohibit it at the time. However, the 2006 legislation partially criminalized the purchase of sex, making it illegal to buy from minors, trafficking victims, or those involved in procurement.

Trump gearing up for meeting with Xi – CNN

The potential talks could take place in October in South Korea, the network has reported

US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping could meet in October in South Korea during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, CNN reported on Saturday, citing sources. This comes amid trade tensions between the two countries.

According to three unnamed Trump administration officials, the president and his top advisers “are quietly preparing” to travel to the APEC meetingand hold talks with the trade ministers of member states. The APEC summit is scheduled for late October to early November in Gyeongju, South Korea.

The officials added that “there have been serious discussions about a bilateral meeting” between Trump and Xi on the sidelines of the forum, but “no firm plans are in place.”

Trade tensions between the US and China have been running high. In early 2025, Trump imposed sweeping tariffs as high as 145% on Chinese goods, prompting reciprocal tariffs of 125% from Beijing. South Korea condemns mass detention of its citizens in US

Around 300 South Korean nationals were swept up in an immigration raid at a Hyundai plant in Georgia, Seoul has said

South Korea has lodged a protest after the US immigration authorities detained hundreds of workers at Hyundai’s electric vehicle manufacturing complex in Georgia.

The raid took place on Thursday at the construction site of a battery plant in Bryan County near Savannah, a joint venture between Hyundai Motor Group and LG Energy Solution that employs around 1,200 people. US Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) said the operation was part of an inquiry into unlawful employment practices.

The Atlanta office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives reported that 450 “unlawful aliens” were taken into custody.

South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun said around 300 of those detained were South Korean nationals, including employees of partner firms visiting on business trips.Many reportedly entered the US on short-term business visas or under the Visa Waiver Program, but the immigration authorities concluded that their activities at the site did not match the purpose of their stay.

“The economic activities of our investment firms and the rights of our citizens must not be unfairly infringed upon during US law enforcement operations,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Friday, according to local media. “We have also conveyed our concerns and regret through the US Embassy in Seoul, urging them to ensure that the legitimate rights and interests of our citizens are fully protected.” (They are breaking the law, but they think these illegals have a right to be in the U.S. illegally, the U.S. does not adhere to the UN NWO mandates, like the EU and others do.)

National Centre RUSSIA opens first branch office in Vladivostok

It will be “a space where ideas are born, and everyone feels pride in Russia and its future,” says the Centre’s general director

The first branch office of the National Centre RUSSIA has opened in Primorye, established by order of President Vladimir Putin.

The ceremony took place on the Sports Embankment in Vladivostok, with Governor Oleg Kozhemyako attending. “This is truly a focal point for residents and visitors, where they can learn about landmarks, projects, and achievements of the region, and see how we are shaping the future of our cities and Vladivostok as an agglomeration,” he said.

He noted this opening is only the first step in developing the Centre in the Far East.A congress hall and youth spaces will soon appear, and the site will expand with modern infrastructure for Vladivostok residents. During the ceremony, Kozhemyako awarded the Centre’s General Director Natalia Virtuozova the Primorsky Krai Medal For Special Contribution to Development (1st degree). Other staff involved in establishing the branch were also honored.

“Primorye is a special region — Russia’s gateway to Asia, where traditions and cultures meet, and friendship with neighbors is daily life. We believe the branch will be a new center of strength, a cultural hub, a space where ideas are born, and everyone feels pride in Russia and its future,” said Virtuozova.

Vladivostok Mayor Konstantin Shestakov added that the opening became possible through the joint efforts of a large regional team. “I thank everyone who contributed,” he said.

The festive program featured a performance by the Vladivostok musical band TES’LA and a large flag procession on the renovated Sports Embankment. Attendees joined the “Wonderful Distant Future” dance flash mob, first held at the “Russia” Expo in Moscow. The first thousand guests received handmade Patriotka brand kokoshniks.

Since September 1, the Centre offers the free daily tour program “Discover Primorye” (except Mondays, 10:00–20:00). Visitors may register online or join existing groups.

Laser connects plane and satellite in breakthrough air-to-space link

Air and space were linked together in a recent flight test by General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) and Kepler Communications where a laser system was used to communicate between a standard aircraft and a low-Earth orbit satellite.

Radio has revolutionized the world by making it possible to communicate not just across miles but light years.

It's so ubiquitous that we take it for granted, but it also has its limitations – not the least of which is that it only has limited bandwidth that can handle only so much data per second.

It's a problem that's already become acute in the field of space exploration, where reliance on antiquated radio systems means it can take days to download data that a deep space probe can collect in minutes.

For years NASA and other space agencies have been experimenting with optical communication systems that use laser beams instead of radio beams, but the technology also has great potential when it comes to terrestrial applications.

Optical communications are of particular importance for defense applications.

Where at one time soldiers and sailors made do with fluttering flags or flashes of light to send simple messages, the modern warfighter is part of a global digital network where data rushes about like water out of a firehose and satellites act as a vital link in that network.

While maintaining the sort of precise line-of-sight links required for lasers is relatively easy for ground stations, land vehicles, or warships, for aircraft in flight it definitely comes under the heading of tricky.

It's one thing to link to a distant satellite using a deep space network radio telescope with a laser transceiver installed, it's another for an airplane banking across the sky to maintain communications with a satellite in low-Earth orbit arcing towards the horizon.

To overcome this bottleneck, General Atomics used its Optical Communication Terminal (OCT) system mounted on a De Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter aircraft to establish contact with a Space Development Agency (SDA) Tranche 0-compatible Kepler satellite in low Earth orbit.

Developed as part of SDA’s Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture, the 12-inch (30-cm) OCT uses a 10-watt laser that can push data at a rate of 2.5 Gbps across a distance of 2,970 nautical miles (3,417 miles, 5,500 km) and can track its satellite target at 25° per second.

However, during the test, the exchange rate appears to have peaked at about 1 Gbps.

"Our team achieved a proof-of-concept milestone," said Scott Forney, president of GA-EMS.

"The airborne OCT completed pointing, acquisition, tracking, and lock with the Tranche 0-compatible satellite, then transferred data packets to validate uplink and downlink capability.

Our OCT is designed to close a communications gap, enabling secure, robust data transfers to support tactical and operational missions."

“By pairing Kepler’s on-orbit optical capabilities with GA-EMS’ OCT, we’ve shown what’s possible when space and aviation systems work seamlessly together,” added Robert Conrad, president of Kepler US.

“This achievement builds on our milestone of establishing bi-directional space-to-ground communications with Kepler’s SDA Tranche 0-compatible satellites and reinforces how commercial space operators will be partners in delivering secure, high-throughput connectivity for the defense community and the broader commercial sector.”

South Korea charters plane to fly home over 300 workers detained by ICE at Georgia Hyundai plant

South Korea's foreign minister is considering a trip to the U.S. to meet with the Trump administration after hundreds of South Korean nationals were arrested in Georgia this week at an electric vehicle battery plant.

"We are deeply concerned and feel a heavy sense of responsibility over the arrests of our nationals," Foreign Minister Cho Hyun said at an emergency meeting in Seoul, according to the national Yonhap News Agency.

He said South Korean President Lee Jae Myung called for all-out efforts to swiftly resolve the matter, Yonhap reported, "stressing that the rights and interests of South Korean nationals and the business operations of South Korean companies investing in the United States must not be infringed upon."

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested 475 people, most of them South Korean nationals, in a raid Thursday at a massive electric vehicle battery plant under construction in Ellabell, Ga., near Savannah. The plant is a joint venture between Hyundai Motor Group and LG Energy Solution.

On Sunday, Presidential chief of staff Kang Hoon-sik said that South Korea and the U.S. had finalized negotiations on the workers' release, with South Korea planning to send a charter plane to bring more than 300 workers home, as soon as remaining administrative steps are completed.

ICE released video of what officials say is the largest single-site enforcement operation in the history of the Homeland Security Investigations. It shows officers shackling workers and loading them onto Georgia prison buses.

"This operation underscores our commitment to protecting jobs for Georgians and Americans," said Steven Schrank, special agent in charge of homeland security investigations for Georgia and Alabama, during a news conference announcing the operation. "We are sending a clear and unequivocal message that those who exploit our workforce, undermine our economy and violate federal laws will be held accountable."

He said it was not an operation where agents simply rounded up people and put them on buses, but the result of a months-long investigation. The workers, Schrank said, were either illegally present in the U.S. or working unlawfully.

The suspect has cast ballots in her pet’s name twice, the prosecutors say

A California woman has been charged with registering her dog to vote and casting ballots in her pet’s name in two elections, the Orange County Attorney General’s Office said on Friday.

Prosecutors said Laura Lee Yourex “self-reported” her actions in 2024 and now faces five felony counts. If convicted on all charges, she could serve up to six years in prison.

According to the statement, Yourex submitted a mail-in ballot under the name of her dog, Maya Jean Yourex, in the 2021 gubernatorial recall election, which was counted. She attempted to do so again in the 2022 primary election, but that ballot was rejected.

This eclipse occurs just 2.7 days before the moon reaches perigee, or its closest point to Earth. That makes the moon appear slightly larger than usual, adding to the spectacle.

Viewing tips for tonight

Beat the clouds: Check your local forecast and have a nearby backup spot.

Give it time: The drama builds slowly — plan to watch before, during and after totality.

Low horizon? In parts of Europe, the moon rises already eclipsed. Pick an observing spot with a clear view of the eastern horizon.

No kit required: Binoculars help with detail, but aren't essential.

Because the moon will sit deep within Earth's umbra — the darkest part of our planet's shadow — expect a rich, dark red hue during totality.

Protesters in Paris demand Macron’s resignation (VIDEOS)

The French president’s rating has sunk to record lows amid a budget deficit

Thousands marched through Paris on Saturday, demanding the resignation of President Emmanuel Macron andcalling for France to leave the EU.

Macron’s approval rating has dropped to the lowest level since he took office in 2017, amid a spiraling budget deficit and growing discontent with his government’s financial policies.

Around 80% of French people say they do not trust Macron, according to a poll conducted for Le Figaro and published on Wednesday.

Trust in Prime Minister Francois Bayrou, the fifth to hold the post in less than two years, has also fallen to record lows.

Protesters carried placards reading “Let’s stop Macron, let’s stop the war” and “Frexit,” a French play on Brexit.

The rally was organized by former National Rally politician Florian Philippot and his Euroskeptic party, the Patriots, which opposes arms deliveries to Ukraine and warns against further escalation with Russia.

Left-wing activists and trade unions are planning separate strikes and protests on Wednesday, with the slogan ‘Let’s block everything’.

Bayrou is facing a no-confidence vote on Monday as he seeks support for his proposed budget, with France struggling under a fiscal deficit of 5.8% of GDP – nearly double the EU’s 3% limit. His plan includes cuts to public sector jobs, welfare programs, and pensions, measures the opposition has denounced as prioritizing military spending over social support.

After years of political scheming by the left, President Trump is bringing Space Command (SPACECOM) headquarters back to its rightful home in Huntsville, Alabama.

This was never supposed to be about politics. After a thorough and highly competitive selection process, Huntsville was chosen as the best home for SPACECOM in 2021.

In fact, three different Air Force Secretaries – including Joe Biden’s Secretary of the Air Force, Frank Kendall – have confirmed that Redstone Arsenal is the best home for U.S. Space Command.

Unfortunately, Joe Biden made this political when he disregarded the Air Force, Government Accountability Office (GAO), and DOD’s Inspector General – who all validated the process – and announced he was keeping it to Colorado instead.

This is particularly concerning because the current location was only meant to be temporary and is spread out between four buildings, two of which are unsecure in a residential area, not even on a military base.

This is a serious national security issue and needs to be addressed. Luckily, President Trump and Secretary Hegseth have taken action to fix the problem.

It’s important to understand how we got here. In 2020, the U.S. Air Force conducted a study to determine the best site for constructing SPACECOM’s permanent home.

The process was extremely thorough and considered 66 different locations in 24 different states. Out of ALL of the options, Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville was overwhelmingly chosen as the preferred location for the headquarters in 2021.

After inauguration, Joe Biden immediately suspended the relocation and then, ultimately in 2023, went against the “best military advice” in the country and kept SPACECOM HQ in Colorado Springs.

Beyond the independent reviews that have confirmed Huntsville as the best location for SPACECOM, it’s also just common sense.

Huntsville already has the infrastructure needed to support SPACECOM, unlike Colorado Springs, which STILL has communication and personnel challenges, according to the GAO report.

Not to mention that moving HQ to Huntsville will save American taxpayers more than $420 million.

Redstone Arsenal already has a robust presence in related industry and government organizations like NASA, Missile Defense Agency, and Space Development Agency.

Additionally, Huntsville will have the housing, infrastructure, and resources needed to support all of the jobs this would bring to the state.

SPACECOM would bring at least 1,700 workers and their families to the Rocket City and would create thousands of jobs for Alabamians.

Knowing the facts, it is hard to argue that it makes sense for SPACECOM to be anywhere other than Redstone Arsenal.

The delegation has tirelessly worked in unison to reverse this disastrous political cronyism.

Thankfully, President Trump and Secretary Hegseth are putting our nation’s security first and moving SPACECOM to the place where it will be most effective and provide the most value to taxpayers.

President Trump, Secretary Hegseth, and Secretary Meink are restoring merit and integrity to the military. Space is the next frontier and will play an enormous role in future potential conflicts.

It is imperative that the United States is positioned to dominate this domain. Alabama is just the place to ensure that happens.

I’m excited to see the state and its residents realize their full potential by providing this critical capability in support of our nation.

SpaceX passes 2,000 Starlink satellites deployed in 2025 with Saturday launch

SpaceX deployed its 2,000th Starlink satellite of the year when its Falcon 9 rocket following a flight from Vandenberg Space Force Base on Saturday morning.

The mission, dubbed Starlink 17-9, carried 24 broadband satellites into a polar, low Earth orbit. Liftoff from Space Launch Complex 4 East happened at 11:06 a.m. PDT (2:06 p.m. EDT / 1806 UTC).

SpaceX used its Falcon 9 first stage booster B1075, which launched for a 20th time. Some of its previous missions include Transporter-11, SDA-0A and 16 batches of Starlink satellites.

Eight minutes, 19 seconds after liftoff, the first stage landed on the drone ship, ‘Of Course I Still Love You.’ This was the 149th touchdown on this vessel and SpaceX’s 501st booster landing to date.

Space-Age technology to help in return of rare butterfly

A medieval castle in Lincolnshire is using Space-Age technology to create a new home for one of the UK's rarest butterflies.

The owners of Grimsthorpe Castle have equipped their English Longhorn Cattle with GPS collars as part of a grand plan to reintroduce Duke of Burgundy.

Estate managers are working with Butterfly Conservation to bring back the species, which until a few years ago could be found flying in the grounds of the estate.

Threatened species

Duke of Burgundy is one of the most at-risk butterflies in the UK. Between 1982 and 2019 its distribution across the country plummeted by 89%.

One of the main causes is loss of habitat, and specifically the loss of its main caterpillar foodplants – Cowslip and Primrose.

In the past, Duke of Burgundy could be found across Lincolnshire and the East Midlands, but with changes to land use, habitat destruction and a steady increase in light pollution, the species died out.

Its last outpost in the East Midlands was, for many years, a discrete site on the Grimsthorpe Castle Estate, but even there the numbers gradually dwindled until disappearing about three years ago.

Now, with the benefit of more scientific knowledge, Grimsthorpe Castle is working with Butterfly Conservation's Lincolnshire Branch volunteers to restore the habitat to the point where Duke of Burgundy could be re-introduced.

Cattle intervention

This restoration includes targeted grazing by English Longhorn Cattle to control the grasses and scrub and allow the naturally occurring Cowslips to recolonise the area.

Cowslips will only flourish if the grasses and other plants are grazed off at the right time of the year to allow for seed setting and germination.

Jim Handley, Head of Gardens and Landscape at Grimsthorpe Castle said:

"This is an area of rugged hillside with lots of scrubby clumps which are ideal for sheltering the caterpillars as they grow in the early spring, but we couldn't possible get electric fencing up so, with a grant from Butterfly Conservation, we bought GPS controlled collars to teach our cattle to graze precise parts of the site at exactly the right time of the year.

That, combined with our estate team and volunteers pruning back the scrub and bushes, is really restoring the area to the kind of habitat the butterflies need."

The hard work is now showing signs of success.

Dr Ian Paterson from Butterfly Conservation's Lincolnshire Branch explained: "This is the third year we have been working on the site and this year we did see the cowslips beginning to reappear.

We will carry on with this work next year and the following spring we should be in a position to asses whether the site is ready to accept the first caterpillars from a Butterfly Conservation donor reserve in the south.

"The main reasons this glorious butterfly disappeared from our landscape were avoidable human changes to the environment, so there is no reason that, with love, care and a bit of science, it couldn't thrive in Lincolnshire again."

Putin and Trump ‘will prevent WWIII’ – Kremlin envoy

Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart, Donald Trump, are bringing the end of the Ukraine conflict closer, Kirill Dmitriev, a presidential aide on international economic affairs, has said.

He added that the diplomatic efforts of the two men could prevent World War III.

Dmitriev, who is also the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), the country's sovereign wealth fund, wrote on X on Saturday: “Stalin, Roosevelt & Churchill won WWII. Putin & Trump will prevent WWIII.”

He accompanied his post with a picture of the Soviet, US, and British leaders made during the historic 1945 Yalta Conference, which laid the foundations for the post-war order after the defeat of Nazi Germany.

He also pushed back against former US ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul, who suggested that Moscow is not serious about negotiations to end the conflict and urged more Western weapons for Ukraine.

“Wrong. Peace is close precisely because of Trump-Putin dialogue. Idiotic [former US President Joe] Biden’s approaches failed.

Isolation attempts failed. Sanctions failed. Dialogue, respect, understanding each other, problem-solving to find [a] long-term solution is the way,” Dmitriev said.

Breaking a long hiatus in top-level talks between the US and Russia, Putin and Trump have held several phone conversations and met face-to-face in Alaska in mid-August.

While no ceasefire agreement was reached at the Alaska summit, the two sides praised the engagement as highly productive. Following the talks, Trump said that Ukraine cannot hope to join NATO or reclaim Crimea.

On Friday, Putin struck a cautiously optimistic tone about the prospects for ending the conflict, noting that “there is light at the end of the tunnel,” but noted that if no diplomatic solution is found, “we will have to reach all the goals through arms.”

Moscow has insisted that a sustainable resolution to the conflict is possible only if Ukraine commits to neutrality, demilitarization, denazification, and recognizes the new territorial reality on the ground.

Macron’s government is collapsing. Here’s why Ukraine should worry

A €44 billion austerity gamble, strikes in the streets, and promises to Kiev are about to go up in smoke

France’s government is once again on the verge of collapse. Prime Minister Francois Bayrou faces near-certain defeat in a confidence vote over a disputed austerity plan, a showdown that threatens President Emmanuel Macron’s authority at home andcasts doubt on Paris’ ability to deliver on its ambitious promises abroad – including security guarantees for Ukraine.

1.France in meltdown – how bad is it this time?

Bayrou has staked his survival on a confidence vote scheduled for Monday, September 8. At issue is an austerity package worth €44 billion, meant to shrink France’s deficit from 5.4% of GDP in 2025 toward 4.6% in 2026.Under EU fiscal rules, the official ceiling is 3%, so Brussels is pressuring Paris to cut deeper. But the plan – which includes reducing public holidays and raising healthcare contributions – has triggered anger at home. Trade unions are preparing strikes, while opposition parties from the far left to the far right have pledged to vote against Bayrou.

With his government already in a minority, few in Paris believe he can survive.

2.Macron’s friend, savior, or dead weight?

Francois Bayrouis one of the most familiar names in French politics. He leads the centrist Democratic Movement (MoDem) and has been mayor of the city of Pau since 2014.Back in 2017, his endorsement was crucial for Macron, giving the then-upstart candidate credibility in the political center. As president, Macron briefly made him justice minister, and after Michel Barnier was forced out in late 2024,Bayrou was elevated to prime minister to hold together Macron’s fragile coalition. But with his budget collapsing and support evaporating, the man once hailed as a stabilizer is now being blamed for dragging Macron further into crisis.

3.How did one budget plan blow up the PM’s career?

In France, governments can invoke Article 49.3 of the Constitution to force a bill through the National Assembly, the lower house of parliament, without a vote. The mechanism has existed since 1958 and is legal, but risky: once Article 49.3 is triggered, opposition lawmakers have 24 hours to file a no-confidence motion. If that motion passes, the government falls. ==Bayrou’s decision to use 49.3 turned his €44 billion austerity plan into a survival gamble.

Bayrou chose confrontation over compromise. By tying his austerity program directly to a confidence vote, he hoped to project resolve. The package included unpopular measures such as cutting public holidays and raising healthcare charges.Instead of rallying deputies behind him, the move united nearly every opposition faction, The far-right National Rally, the Socialists, and the leftist France Unbowedall declared they would vote him out, filing no-confidence motionsthat set up a showdown on Monday. What was meant to be a show of strength turned into political suicide.

4.Macron without Bayrou – what’s left of his power?

If Bayrou falls, Macron is left exposed: he’s going to have to pick between two bad options. He can install a Socialist prime minister to get a budget through parliament,effectively conceding control of domestic policy. Or he can gamble on snap elections, which polls suggest would hand more seats to Le Pen’s National Rally. With Macron’s approval ratings already scraping historic lows, either choice would deepen the sense of a weakened presidency.

Commentators warn that if markets lose confidence in France’s ability to control its 5.4% of GDP deficit and 110% debt-to-GDP ratio,the country could face a crisis reminiscent of Britain’s “mini-budget” turmoil under Liz Truss.

5.Where does Bayrou actually stand on Ukraine?

On foreign policy, Bayrou has been a vocal supporter of Kiev. In March 2025, he openly criticized Washington for pushing Ukraine to negotiate peace with Moscow, calling such demands “unbearable.” He argued that pushing concessions would humiliate Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky and amount to rewarding Russia. Inside Macron’s government, Bayrou has been one of the strongest advocates of sustained European backing for Ukraine, insisting that Paris must stand firm.
