AUGUSTA, Maine (WGME) – Maine Secretary of State and gubernatorial candidate Shenna Bellows says she has been doxed after coming out against ICE.

Bellows says her home address and personal contact information were spread online.

She says this has led to herself and members of her family receiving threats.

But for Bellows, this is not the first time she has been targeted. She says she was swatted in 2023 for calling to remove President Donald Trump from the ballot.

Bellows insists it's a scare tactic, and that she will not give in to fear.

"Unfortunately, when I spoke out against ICE and when I refused to allow ICE to have access to undercover license plates because a government agency and law enforcement should identify themselves as a government entity and law enforcement if they are going to be arresting people in the streets,” Bellows said.

Did Russia just help buy time for Iran to make a deal with the US?

Mediation efforts reportedly coincide with a pause in Washington’s military pressure on Tehran

After weeks of ratcheting up pressure on Iran and openly floating the use of US military force, President Donald Trump has in recent days struck a more cautious tone, leaving the door open to diplomacy even as Washington continues to reinforce its military posture in the Middle East. Some media reports suggest that mediation efforts, including Moscow, are underway to bring Washington and Tehran back to the negotiating table.

When asked about Tehran, Trump told reporters on Sunday: “Hopefully we’ll make a deal.” Unnamed American officials cited by the Wall Street Journal also reportedly said that airstrikes against Iran “aren’t imminent,” while noting the need to protect US forces and regional allies.

Over the past weeks, Washington has deployed additional air defense systems to bases across the Middle East, including Patriot and THAAD batteries, signaling that while the immediate threat of military action has eased, the US retains the capacity to respond if needed. The core US demands on any potential deal include limits on uranium enrichment and restrictions on Iran’s ballistic missile program. Iran maintains that its nuclear program is purely peaceful.

According to a report by the Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Jarida on Monday, the likelihood of an immediate US strike on Tehran has diminished and diplomacy has been given a new chance following intensive efforts by mediators – primarily Russia and Türkiye, along with Qatar.

Russian President Vladimir Putin presented a set of proposals during talks in Moscow last week with the head of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Ali Larijani, prompting Trump to “postpone” any decision on military action to allow further discussion of the initiatives, an unnamed source told the paper.

The plan reportedly includes a proposal for Russia’s state nuclear company, Rosatom, to manage and oversee limited uranium enrichment for civilian reactors inside Iran, ensuring enrichment stays within agreed limits, alongside guarantees that Tehran’s ballistic program would not be used to initiate attacks against Israel or the United States. Russia has repeatedly said it believes the Iranian nuclear issue should be resolved through political and diplomatic means.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has urged dialogue, warning that “any forceful actions can only create chaos in the region and lead to very dangerous consequences.” Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has stated that Moscow is ready to play a key role once again in reaching an agreement on Iran’s nuclear program, similar to its involvement in the 2015 deal.

Under the agreement, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Iran agreed to restrict uranium enrichment levels, reduce its stockpile of enriched uranium, and allow comprehensive inspections by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Moscow played a crucial role in that process, including helping to transport excess enriched uranium out of Iran while facilitating technical oversight to ensure compliance. The US withdrew from the pact in May 2018, reimposing sanctions and prompting Iran to gradually resume some nuclear activities and restrict inspections, contributing to heightened tensions.

Tensions have remained high since US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities last June and amid Washington’s promise to punish Iran for its crackdown on violent anti-government protests.

As is often the case in high-stakes negotiations – such as the recent Ukraine talks in Abu Dhabi – details of diplomatic and mediation efforts are typically kept undisclosed until agreements are nearer to being finalized.

Educated speculation:

MSTR, the massive bitcoin treasury company is headed towards S&P 500 inclusion. It qualified a while back, but because of its size and growth, the further out the decision to include gets, the tighter the needle will be to thread. At inclusion decision, most stocks get a small single digit percentage boost as passive strategies are required to allocate. Most of the allocation takes place before the actual inclusion date, particularly by smaller active investors. What makes MSTR different is a couple things. Most S&P 500 stocks ultimately find that about 20% of the float gets allocated to the passive strategies over time, but MSTR already has a narrow float with lots of strong hands. The share volume traded is pretty huge because of the volatility, but the amount of money that would come in would still launch it northward. More importantly, is that the inclusion would be one of the greatest last signals of Bitcoin taking over the world. It wouldn't just be another stock getting included, it would be a signal that Bitcoin is in 1st place. That would tighten the grip by hodlers and attract a lot of non-passive investors. You could see a 30-100% pop in the stock price just because of the inclusion but with long-term increases because of it's role in the economy. MSTR, its bond stocks, and other similar Bitcoin treasury companies are eating the premiums on real estate, stocks, bonds, and other asset categories that have all been used as savings vehicles because of the inability to earn interest in savings accounts. All that money flowed from the banks and into assets, propping them up, long ago, which is why everything is so fucking expensive. Most of that premium will eventually going to flow into Bitcoin-related vehicles, and S&P 500 inclusion would be the signal that the race has begun. So, next time you wonder WTF is happening in the market recently, i.e. gold, silver, etc., understand that people are getting their black powder ready for something BIG. I think MSTR is it. It's going to be the biggest company in the world one day, and ironically enough, the smartest tradfi minds are only beginning to get it. A few have moved into the new world already, and all indications are that a metric shit ton of randos, autists, and everyday folk are already way ahead of the game. Buy or don't. I'm not here to sell the idea. It's not to dismiss lots of other factors and variables. Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., chair of the House Oversight Committee, rejected what he called a last-minute "special treatment" offer from Bill and Hillary Clinton to cooperate in the committee's Jeffrey Epstein investigation.

The rejection was just days before the House is expected to vote on holding them in criminal contempt of Congress.

For months, the Clintons have said they would not comply with subpoenas from the Republican-led committee, branding the subpoenas invalid and portraying the probe as political retaliation.

They had promised to fight Comer "for as long as it took."

But after some Democrats joined Republicans on the Oversight Committee to recommend criminal contempt referrals — a first step toward sending the matter to the Justice Department — the Clintons shifted tactics and proposed limited cooperation.

In a Saturday letter to Comer obtained by The New York Times, their lawyers said former President Bill Clinton would agree to sit for a four-hour transcribed interview with the full committee.

The lawyers asked that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who has said she never met or spoke to Epstein, be allowed to submit a sworn declaration instead of testifying.

They added she would agree to an in-person interview if required, but only "with appropriate adjustments for the paucity of information she has to offer in this matter," according to the letter.

Comer turned them down on Monday morning, calling the offer "unreasonable."

He said four hours would be inadequate for Bill Clinton, describing him as a "loquacious individual" who could try to run out the clock.

"Your clients' desire for special treatment is both frustrating and an affront to the American people's desire for transparency," Comer wrote in a Monday letter to the Clintons' lawyers.

Comer also rejected Bill Clinton's request to limit the interview to matters directly tied to Epstein. The former president, Comer wrote, "likely has an artificially narrow definition in mind" of what is relevant.

Comer said he is concerned Bill Clinton would refuse to answer questions about "his personal relationship with Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, ways in which they sought to curry favor with powerful individuals and alleged efforts to utilize his power and influence after his presidency to kill negative news stories about Jeffrey Epstein."

Bill Clinton was acquainted with Epstein, the convicted sex offender who died in federal custody in 2019. He has said he never visited Epstein's private island and cut off contact 20 years ago.

Flight logs show the 42nd president took four international trips on Epstein's private jet in 2002 and 2003.

Philippe Reines, a longtime Clinton adviser, criticized the Oversight Committee Democrats who backed the contempt recommendations.

"Republicans are gonna Republican," Reines told the Times. "It's the Democrats who are disappointing, navel-gazing like this is a legitimate exercise in law and democracy."

A House vote could come as early as Wednesday. After a contempt vote, referrals would go to the Justice Department.

Contempt charges can include a fine of up to $100,000 and up to one year in jail. The Clintons previously accused Comer of a process "literally designed to result in our imprisonment."

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — In a dramatic surveillance video, the owner of a local smoke shop appears to defend himself with a sharp object from three would-be thieves – identified only as juveniles – after one of them jumped the counter.

This happened at the Smokestrom Smoke Shop on West Sahara near Decatur on Wednesday, Aug. 3.

In the video, two juveniles are seen entering the smoke shop wearing masks. The owner is heard asking “Why are you guys wearing masks like that?” When the juveniles don’t reply, Nguyen is heard asking them “to just leave.”

“At first I thought they were normal customers and then I realized they had like ski masks on,” said Nguyen. “I had to assume they had a firearm so I just wanted to make sure I could protect myself.”

When 8 News Now asked Nguyen if he saw the firearm he replied, “no but I couldn’t take that chance.”

One of the juveniles is seen grabbing what appears to be a mug off the counter by the cash register and walking toward the door. Nguyen is heard telling the juvenile that he could take it but to please “leave the coins.”

The juvenile is seen reaching over the case and grabbing something else, turning, and running out the door.

The other juvenile is seen jumping over the glass case, at which point Nguyen, who can be seen in the video grabbing a sharp object from next to the register, runs at him and apparently stabs him at least seven times.

“It was kind of adrenaline rush and fight or flight even thinking about it now my heart rate is a little bit elevated,” Nguyen said.

The masked juvenile who was stabbed can be heard screaming “I’m dead, I’m dead” before collapsing to the floor.

“I don’t think he planned on getting stabbed that day obviously, but if you try robbing a store you are taking a risk. This is a small business obviously,” Nguyen added.

Nguyen is then seen dropping the masked juvenile near the front door and calling 911. The juvenile who was stabbed can be heard asking the owner “don’t let me die.”

Police have arrested the juveniles who are seen apparently trying to rob the store and the person who was stabbed was taken to the hospital.
