But.. Through Indirect Inheritance, sometimes a word is borrowed and completely replaces the original word. sometimes both the orginal and borrowed forms stay in the language, but with slight difference in their meanings and sometimes a borrowed word stops being used after a while and only the original form remains in the language. Even though a detailed examination of the sound correspondences often helps to unambiguously identify borrowed forms, sometimes the existence of competing forms that are the result of indirect inheritance makes the work of reconstruction and sub grouping difficult.
