Former Federal Reserve Adviser Sentenced to 38 Months in Prison After Lying About Sharing Restricted Information With Suspected Chinese Intelligence Operatives (Video)

Former Federal Reserve senior adviser John Harold Rogers, 64, was sentenced today to 38 months in federal prison.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, Rogers was sentenced in connection with making false statements to federal investigators about sharing restricted Federal Reserve information with Chinese intelligence operatives.

As The Gateway Pundit previously reported in detail when Rogers was arrested and indicted in late January 2025, the longtime Fed economist exploited his position of trust for years.

Rogers worked as a Senior Adviser in the Federal Reserve Board of Governors’ Division of International Finance from 2010 until his retirement in 2021.

He had access to highly sensitive, non-public information, including proprietary economic data sets, deliberations on tariffs targeting China, briefing books for Fed governors, and critical insights into upcoming Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) decisions and interest rate moves.

Prosecutors alleged that beginning as early as 2018, Rogers passed this information to co-conspirators tied to the People’s Republic of China’s intelligence and security apparatus.

These individuals posed as graduate students at a PRC university. They allegedly lured Rogers with gifts, an all-expenses-paid beach vacation, and a lucrative part-time “professor” position at Fudan University in Shanghai, for which he was paid approximately $450,000 in 2023 alone.

The stolen data could have allowed China to manipulate U.S. markets in a manner similar to insider trading, giving Beijing a massive advantage in buying or selling U.S. bonds and securities with advance knowledge of Fed policy shifts.

In February 2020, when questioned by the Federal Reserve Board of Governors Office of Inspector General (FRB-OIG), Rogers lied about accessing and passing sensitive information and about his associations with the Chinese contacts.

During the trial in February 2026, jurors declined to convict Rogers on the more serious economic espionage conspiracy count.

They did, however, find beyond a reasonable doubt that Rogers lied when questioned by federal investigators, falsely denying that he had shared restricted Federal Reserve information outside the institution.

At Wednesday’s sentencing, U.S. District Judge Dabney Friedrich emphasized Rogers’ deliberate efforts to conceal his conduct, including using personal email accounts and taking steps to hide his communications.

Rogers maintained he never knowingly worked for Chinese intelligence and insisted he had been manipulated, but the court concluded his false statements warranted a significant prison sentence.

Minneapolis Daycare Owner Fahima Egeh Mahamud Pleads Guilty to $5.45M Fraud in Child Care and Feeding Our Future Schemes

Fahima Egeh Mahamud, former CEO of Future Leaders Early Learning Center in Minneapolis, pleaded guilty in federal court to one count of wire fraud and one count of conspiracy to defraud the United States. She admitted to schemes that fraudulently obtained more than $4.6 million from Minnesota's Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP) through false claims and approximately $850,000 by falsely claiming to serve of meals daily (at times up to 60,000 per month) through the federal Feeding Our Future nutrition program.

Prosecutors noted that her center received the highest amount of CCAP funding in Minnesota in 2025 (around $3.7 million that year alone, with over $10 million across recent years). Much of the money was allegedly used for personal gain, including real estate purchases, while minimal or no services were provided. Mahamud reportedly attempted to flee the country, booking a flight to London on the same day she notified the state of the center's closure.

The daycare, located near George Floyd Square at 36th and Chicago Avenue, gained national attention after appearing in a viral December 2025 video by independent YouTuber Nick Shirley. His investigation into apparently empty or minimally operational taxpayer-funded facilities prompted intensified state and federal scrutiny across Minnesota. The center closed in January 2026.

Under his plea agreement, Mahamud faces a recommended sentence of 27–33 months in prison. She has been released on conditional bond pending sentencing, which has not yet been scheduled. Continue…

Residents of the small leafy Oxfordshire village of Piddington have delivered a thunderous rebuke to Westminster's latest asylum experiment.

With roughly 180 adults casting ballots on July 4, 175 backed holding a referendum on breaking away from the United Kingdom in protest against plans to house up to 1,250 single adult male asylum seekers at an adjacent former Ministry of Defence Site.

That works out to a 96% yes vote in a community of around 370 people where decisions about their future are being made without them.

This really is an unbelievable story and just about sums up the UK right now.

Utility companies have already received instructions to prepare power, water and sewage connections, with work eyed for late August or early September. No detailed public proposal or full impact assessment has been published. Locals say the site was never built for this purpose and sits next to a children's play area and reserve.

The Czech Supreme Court has upheld a suspended prison sentence imposed on a former dissident who publicly wore clothing displaying symbols associated with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

According to Echo24, botanist Pavel Křivka walked through Pardubice in April 2024 wearing a black sweatshirt bearing a large white letter ‘Z’ and the Russian words “For Victory.”

Lower courts convicted him of publicly approving a crime against peace and sentenced him to six months in prison, suspended for two years. An appeal to the Supreme Court has now been rejected.

“Freedom of expression is one of the fundamental rights of a democratic society, but it has its limits,” court spokeswoman Gabriela Tomíčková said.

“According to the Supreme Court, public support or approval of the most serious international crimes exceeds the limits of expression which is entitled to full constitutional protection,” she added.

The court said a person does not need to make a speech or explicitly attempt to persuade others to commit an offense. Publicly displaying symbols can itself constitute a crime when their meaning is sufficiently clear.

Judges also rejected Křivka’s argument that the Z symbol does not appear on an official list of prohibited imagery. They ruled that its meaning must be assessed in context and said the combination of the letter Z and the “For Victory” slogan could not reasonably be interpreted as anything other than support for Russian aggression.

The court said Křivka’s education and experience in public and political life meant he would have understood the symbolism. He had also repeatedly expressed opinions on Russia and Ukraine.

Prosecutors described the hoodie as “warmonger clothing” and argued that Křivka intended to stir hostility toward Ukraine and Ukrainians. His lawyer maintained that wearing clothing he liked was not illegal.

The letter Z first appeared on Russian military vehicles during the February 2022 invasion before becoming a wider propaganda symbol used at rallies, on billboards, on clothing and across Russian social media.

Křivka had previously criticized the rulings of the lower Czech courts. “I did not commit any propaganda for war or genocide or anything like that. I walked down the street in standard clothes, clothes that I bought in China when I was there to teach Czech. We have much more freedom in China than in the Czech Republic,” he said in February, as cited by Novinky.cz.

China beats Musk’s Neuralink to commercial brain-chip implant

Chinese surgeons have implanted a brain-computer interface in a patient with limited hand mobility, in what is described as the world’s first commercial procedure using an approved non-invasive device of its kind.

The procedure was carried out on Monday at a hospital in Shanghai. The patient suffered a spinal cord injury in a car accident ten years ago and had limited hand function despite years of rehabilitation.

During the operation, a coin-sized implant was placed on the surface of the patient’s brain. The device is designed to capture brain signals and send them to a computer, which translates them into commands for a robotic glove.

According to officials, the operation went as planned and the patient is recovering, with vital signs stable. They added that the implant had successfully captured stable, high-quality brain signals.

The implant, known as NEO, was developed by Chinese start-up Neuracle and approved by China’s medical regulator in March, allowing it to move beyond clinical trials and be used commercially in hospitals.

The milestone has put Neuracle ahead of Elon Musk’s Neuralink in the race to commercialize implantable brain-computer interfaces. Although Neuralink has also implanted chips in humans and claims to have 21 people enrolled in trials worldwide, it has yet to receive full commercial approval in the US. Continue…

Carney announces nearly $2B deal for 190 more armoured vehicles

Prime Minister Mark Carney announced a nearly $2-billion agreement with General Dynamics Land Systems-Canada on Thursday to build 190 additional armoured combat vehicles for the Canadian military.

The vehicles will be designed and assembled at the company’s plant in London, Ontario, under a four-year agreement with the federal government.

The purchase will expand the Canadian Armed Forces’ planned fleet of Armoured Combat Support Vehicles from 360 to 550.

Carney said the vehicles will give Canadian soldiers greater protection against mines, improvised explosive devices and enemy fire.

“In a more dangerous and divided world, Canada’s government is ensuring the women and men of our Armed Forces get what they need, when they need it,” he said.

“Through this new partnership, GDLS-Canada will design, build, deliver and sustain the next generation of armoured combat vehicles here in Canada.”

The additional 190 vehicles will be used for training exercises at military bases across the country, according to the Prime Minister’s Office.

Armoured Combat Support Vehicles are based on the military’s LAV 6.0 platform and can be configured as ambulances, command posts, troop and cargo carriers, electronic warfare vehicles and mobile repair and recovery vehicles.

The existing fleet of 360 vehicles was ordered from General Dynamics in 2019 through a contract valued at approximately $2.1 billion.

The first vehicles were accepted in 2020, with the fleet reaching initial operational capability in January 2025. Full operational capability for the original order is expected in 2028.

Canada has also donated or committed 89 Armoured Combat Support Vehicles to Ukraine.

The government said vehicles originally built for the Canadian military and donated to Ukraine will be replaced by the contractor.

Canada’s total spending on Ukraine related supports has recently topped $26.7 billion.

The Carney government said the new agreement will create or sustain more than 6,000 jobs annually across Canada over the next eight years.

Those estimates include work at General Dynamics and more than 600 Canadian suppliers operating in over 100 communities.

The supply chain includes steel produced by InterPro in Regina, thermal imaging systems designed by Thales Canada in Saint-Laurent, Quebec, and specialized components manufactured by IMP Aerospace and Defence in Enfield, Nova Scotia.

Companies selected for the framework commit to investing in Canadian research, employing Canadian workers and expanding domestic supply chains.

Ottawa, in turn, acts as an anchor customer and assists companies in accessing export markets.

Protesters Smash Windshield of NS Premier’s Vehicle

Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston’s vehicle was “swarmed” by a group of protesters who smashed the windshield following a July 15 speaking event, according to the premier’s office.

The incident occurred following remarks that Houston delivered at an Annapolis Valley Chamber of Commerce event at Acadia University, which is located in Wolfville, N.S., about 90 kilometres northwest of Halifax.

“Following that event, an extreme faction amongst a group of protesters turned the event violent,” the premier’s office wrote in a July 15 update.

“While we always respect the right of the public to peacefully protest, what happened after the event was the farthest thing from peaceful.”

The update specified that the vehicles of Houston and his staff were “swarmed by rioters” who stopped them from leaving the university, pushed law enforcement, and then climbed on top of Houston’s car and smashed the windshield while he was inside.

No injuries or arrests had been publicly confirmed as of July 15, and the RCMP and Acadia University did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Epoch Times. Continue…

The 63-year-old Tutors have entertained audiences across Canada and the United States as the Snowbirds’ aircraft for 55 years.

An Alberta judge has extended an order temporarily freezing the assets of separatist lawyer Jeffrey Rath and his law firm as part of an ongoing legal dispute over millions of dollars in trust money from a First Nation treaty settlement.

As part of the extended and expanded order, Rath and his law firm are required to give the lawyers for Tallcree First Nation sworn evidence identifying their financial assets and their location by July 27. They must also provide sworn evidence and accounting records for all fees and charges paid out of Tallcree First Nation’s trust account by Aug. 4.

Rath must also undergo further examination under oath about his assets on or before Aug. 11.

Tallcree First Nation alleges Rath improperly charged millions of dollars to a trust established to hold settlement money for its members, including funds earmarked for minors, and that the trust may have paid much of its own court-ordered repayment. Rath disputes the allegations.

The judge’s order will remain in effect until 60 days after a final ruling, or until the Tallcree First Nation either discontinues the matter or has it dismissed. Alternatively, the order will end if Rath gives $15 million to the receiver to be held in trust pending the outcome of the legal proceedings.

The order freezing Rath’s assets was initially issued by Alberta Court of King’s Bench Justice Michael Marion on July 10, according to documents first obtained by Global News. The order had remained in effect until July 15, when the hearing took place. Continue…

Ontario will continue to experience some of the world’s most hazardous air quality today as wildfire smoke covers much of the province.

Environment Canada has issued an air quality warning for much of central and southern Ontario as smoke from wildfires raging in the province’s northwest cause another day of poor air quality and heightened health risks.

Environment Canada issued its highest warning early on July 16—10+ or very high risk—for the Greater Toronto Area and several other large urban centres, including Kitchener, London, Hamilton, Windsor, and Sarnia.

Areas as far east as Belleville and as far north as Sault Ste. Marie and North Bay were under the same 10+ air advisory.

“During heavy smoke conditions, everyone’s health is at risk regardless of their age or health status,” the agency said in an advisory. “Limit time outdoors. Reschedule or cancel outdoor sports, activities and events.”

A change in wind direction from northwest to northeast has brought better air quality to some sections of eastern Ontario. Kingston was classified as a six or moderate risk by Environment Canada during the early morning hours and Ottawa was a three, or low risk. Continue…

Environment ministers from across the provinces and the federal government wrapped up a meeting in Calgary on Wednesday with a message that conservation policies need to be balanced against the need for economic development.

The spirit of willingness to accept trade-offs between industry and the environment seemed to differ from Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment meetings under longtime environment minister Steven Guilbeault.

Alberta Environment Minister Grant Hunter said at a press conference at the end of the meeting that his focus was on amplifying a “significant shift in the national conversation” that’s moving governments toward more pragmatic environmental policies that boost, rather than hinder economic activities.

“Not long ago, the economic consequences of environmental policies were too often treated as a separate consideration, or even as something that should not be part of the discussion,” said Hunter

“Today, there is a growing recognition that the decisions we make as environment ministers have major implications for investment, jobs, affordability, competitiveness and Canada’s ability to get major projects built,” he added.

Hunter said that the very location of the annual meeting exemplified this change in thinking, happening as it was in the city headquarters of the oil and gas industry. The fossil fuels sector was previously seen as targeted by the former prime minister, Justin Trudeau, and Guilbeault.

A Hamilton, Ont., podcaster is liable for more than $40,000 in damages and legal costs after saying on a livestream that married rivals of his were biological siblings whose incestuous relationship caused their son’s autism.

As part of the ruling, Ontario Superior Court Justice A.J. Goodman ordered Tuesday that political content creator Spencer Butts reimburse $20,000 in legal costs incurred by plaintiffs Ryan and Tanya Davies, the husband and wife co-hosts of the popular conservative podcast Northern Perspective.

Butts, who represented himself in court, chose not to file any materials relating to the reimbursement, according to a filing obtained by National Post.

Goodman found in late May that Butts made defamatory comments about the Davies during an April 17, 2025, livestream analyzing that evening’s federal election leaders’ debate. He awarded the couple $25,000 in damages.

While giving “shout outs” to fellow conservative content creators during the broadcast, Butts said that the Davies “very well might be brother and sister, which would make another thing make sense, which would be way too mean of me to say but you can all infer.”

The couple has a nine-year-old son who lives with autism and a global developmental delay, whose condition they’ve spoken about publicly. In 2023, they appeared on a local Hamilton TV news segment criticizing the Ford government over cuts to provincial autism funding.

Goodman said in a 31-page decision that Butts crossed a legal line by saying the couple engaged in unlawful and highly taboo sexual activities.

“Incest is a crime in Canada, and carries a high level of stigma,” wrote Goodman.

Goodman also found Butts further defamed the Davies’ by saying their supposed blood relation would “make another thing make sense,” reasoning that their son’s condition was widely known in conservative influencer circles. Continue…

An 86-year-old Sault Ste. Marie woman lost close to a million dollars to a deepfake of Prime Minister Mark Carney she saw on Facebook.

She is one of a growing number of Canadians being defrauded by artificial intelligence. Scammers are using AI to fake the faces of people the public trusts, and selling investments that do not exist.

Judy Skene, a retired pharmacist, saw a Facebook ad in July 2025 in which a deepfake of Carney told viewers to put $350 into a cryptocurrency platform, SooToday reported. The video claimed the money would be backed by the Bank of Canada, Skene told CTV News. Carney never made it.

A deepfake is video or audio generated by AI to make a real person appear to say or do something they never did. They are being used to impersonate politicians, celebrities, financial experts and government officials, said Jeff Horncastle, client and communications outreach officer at the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.

“The advertisement is usually only the first step,” Horncastle said.

Once someone clicks or hands over their contact information, a fraudster may call posing as an investment advisor, Horncastle said. The victim may then be directed to a professional-looking trading platform, encouraged to buy cryptocurrency or asked to hand over remote access to their computer. The platform may display fabricated profits, he said.

Skene’s case followed that pattern. She signed up and paid, and a caller told her the money had already tripled, CTV News reported. The scammers sent her a link that gave them access to her computer, where they found her investments, her longtime friend Pat Probert told SooToday.

Over several months she cashed in a $650,000 registered retirement income fund, mortgaged her Bay Street condo for $300,000 and took a $35,000 cash advance on her credit card, according to SooToday. The scammers promised her $40,000 a month in dividends if she kept investing, SooToday reported.

The deepfake supplies the credibility, but the fraud itself still runs on social engineering, Horncastle said. Fraudsters use the image and voice of someone Canadians recognize to lower their guard. Continue…

In a decision released this week, Nova Scotia Supreme Court Justice Ann Smith struck the lawsuit brought by the Unified Fisheries Conservation Alliance against the Sipekne'katik First Nation, concluding the court lacked jurisdiction because the claim did not raise a legal issue the court could decide.

The alliance, which represents thousands of commercial fish harvesters across the Maritimes, argued that the Sipekne'katik First Nation has conducted an unlawful commercial lobster fishery in St. Mary's Bay for years by fishing outside federally regulated seasons and without commercial licences. The group asked the court to affirm that the federal Fisheries Act and its regulations apply equally to all commercial harvesters.

Justice Smith rejected the application, writing that the alliance was not challenging the validity of any federal law or government action and therefore had failed to raise a "justiciable issue" suitable for judicial determination. She also ruled the organization lacked standing to seek declarations about treaty rights because it is not a party to any treaty between the First Nation and the Crown.

The dispute stems from the Sipekne'katik First Nation's self-regulated "moderate livelihood" lobster fishery, launched in 2020 following the Supreme Court of Canada's landmark Marshall decision, which recognized a treaty right for Mi'kmaq people to earn a moderate livelihood from fishing. Ottawa has never fully defined what that right entails, leaving ongoing disagreements over licensing, seasons and enforcement.

With this final rule, USCIS officers are empowered to assess all pertinent facts on a case-by-case basis for each applicant,” USCIS said in a press release.

“The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has issued a final rule rescinding the 2022 Biden-era regulation regarding public charge determinations, further aligning immigration law with Congressional intent that aliens in the United States be self-reliant and not dependent on taxpayer-funded government benefits,” USCIS said.

”Under the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA), an individual applying for a visa, admission, or adjustment of status is inadmissible to the United States if deemed likely at any time to become a public charge.”

USCIS spokesperson Zach Kahler said in a statement, “The Trump administration is upholding the rule of law and protecting American taxpayers from subsidizing aliens who may become dependent on public benefits. USCIS is committed to safeguarding the safety, security, and financial well-being of Americans.”

BEIJING (AP) — A landslide Friday in the southwestern Chinese city of Chongqing buried residential buildings, forced more than 1,100 residents to evacuate and trapped an undetermined number of people, state media reported.

State broadcaster CCTV said at least 10 people were rescued from the debris, and that search and rescue operations were ongoing.

CCTV said the landslide occurred at around 9:08 a.m. in Chongqing’s Pengshui County. Massive amounts of rocks and soil washed downslope, burying more than 10 residential buildings.

Images by CCTV showed part of a mountainside collapsing onto a residential area. Several buildings were located next to the collapse site, while rescue crews combed through the debris. The National Weather Service has issued a tsunami threat warning near the coast of Chiapas, Mexico.

The USGS initially measured the quake at 7.4 magnitude but downgraded it slightly to 7.3 after review.

The agency expects the event could be felt across the state of Chiapas and into Oaxaca, Tabasco, Veracruz, and in parts of Guatemala and El Salvador, according to initial maps.

Local officials have not yet reported damage or injuries from the earthquake.

The change in wind patterns has provided some respite to eastern Ontario, as air quality measurements have fallen below a level seven—the threshold at which severe air quality alerts are issued.

Before her death, Noelia had publicly spoken about surviving multiple sexual assaults in television interviews, including a gang rape at a nightclub and other attacks.

She never named the perpetrators, and Spanish authorities have never identified any suspects.

After reading the diary, her mother said she finally understood many things about what her daughter had endured and decided to take action by filing formal complaints to pursue justice.

The Department of Homeland Security announced a new rule on Thursday, reducing the duration that foreign journalists, students, and cultural exchange visa-holders can stay in the country.

The new rule replaces the previously unspecified period of time that immigrants were admitted to the United States, known as “duration of status,” with a fixed number of days they will be allowed to stay.

“This decisive shift restores integrity to the nation’s immigration system, combats rampant visa abuse, and strengthens national security through regular vetting. A fixed period of admission is currently in place for many other types of nonimmigrant visas,” the Department of Homeland Security said.

With the exception of some Chinese nationals on I visas for representatives of foreign information media, journalists from other countries will be granted “admission for a fixed time period until they complete the activities or assignments consistent with the I classification, not to exceed 240 days.”

Chinese reporters face a much stricter 90-day limit.

According to the final rule’s public inspection version, “There were 37,330 admissions for I nonimmigrant foreign media representatives in the United States in FY 2024, over double the 16,753 admissions into the U.S. in 1985 and a nearly 15 percent increase from the prior fiscal year”

It also places restrictions on student F visas and cultural exchange J visas.

Exchange and student visas will only be granted for the duration of their programs, not to exceed four years.

An Italian court sentenced 32 people to a total of more than 170 years in prison on July 16, over their role in a 2018 bridge collapse that claimed the lives of 43 people.

The former head of Italian motorway operator Autostrade per l'Italia (ASPI), Giovanni Castellucci, received the longest sentence of 12 years in prison for his role in the disaster, which saw the Morandi motorway bridge near the city of Genoa fall apart during a rainstorm on the morning of Aug. 14, 2018.

Michele Donferri Mitelli, another former senior manager at the publicly traded motorway management company, was given an 11-year sentence, with a further 30 defendants receiving custodial sentences.

Others sentenced included managers and engineers from ASPI's engineering subsidiary SPEA, as well as former officials from Italy's Infrastructure and Transport Ministry.

Of the 57 people who stood trial, a further 25 were either acquitted or cleared due to the statute of limitations, Italian outlet La Repubblica reported.

The Genoa courtroom fell silent as presiding judge Paolo Lepri read the verdicts for around 45 minutes, with 400 relatives of the victims, lawyers, journalists, and members of the public listening, Reuters reported.

Egle Possetti, president of the Committee for the Remembrance of the Morandi Bridge Victims, called the verdicts "important" and "positive."

This 'north-south corridor' as it is sometimes reference, will become all the more important as the US-Iran conflict drags on with no end in sight.

British Columbia’s attorney general says the provincial NDP government is urging Ottawa to change the Criminal Code to criminalize what it calls “residential school denialism.” Niki Sharma made the comments Thursday during an event in Surrey where the province demanded the designation of a site for ash scattering. She was asked about a recent Assembly of First Nations resolution calling on the federal government to treat residential school denialism as hate speech.

“We’ve also been calling on the federal government to take action through the criminal code,” Sharma said. She added: “We have seen an unprecedented and terrible rise in residential school denialism here in the legislature and in Victoria. We as a government have solidly condemned it.”

The comments come after British Columbia controversy over statements made by independent MLA Dallas Brodie and other former Conservative MLAs regarding the Kamloops Indian Residential School site and the 2021 ground-penetrating radar findings.

Brodie has publicly said the number of confirmed child burials at the former school site is zero and questioned aspects of media coverage surrounding the findings. Indigenous organizations and government officials have described similar claims as residential school denialism.

The AFN passed an emergency resolution this week calling on Canada to create stand-alone legislation making residential school denialism a criminal offence under hate speech laws. BC Assembly of First Nations Regional Chief Terry Teegee said there has been an “exponential” increase in anti-Indigenous hate across British Columbia and Canada according to The Western Standard.

Previous attempts to introduce similar measures at the federal level include private members’ bills from NDP MP Leah Gazan. Those proposals sought to amend the Criminal Code to make publicly denying, downplaying, condoning, or justifying the residential school system a form of willful promotion of hatred against Indigenous peoples.

A proposed amendment to the federal Combatting Hate Act that would have criminalized residential school denialism was defeated in the Senate in June.

Senator Patti LaBoucane-Benson, who opposed the amendment, said it risked “watering our wine and not going for the full force of what should happen with residential school denialism.”

The BC government has not introduced its own provincial legislation on the issue. Canada spent about $8 million previously to try to discover the "heartbreaking truth" about mass graves, or unmarked graves at the Indian Residential School in Kamloops, British Columbia, only to find that there were no bodies recovered at all. The publicly confirmed number from these investigations is 0 recovered bodies as of 2026. Department of Crown-Indigenous Relations Carolane Gratton said that the substantial funding was used for fieldwork, records searches, and securing the grounds of the school, Western Standard reports, but no remains were ever uncovered.

In 2021 the First Nations in BC announced that they had discovered the graves of 215 children on the grounds of the school. International criticism of Canada and their residential school system was swift and furious. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau even went out to the site with a teddy bear to express his compassion. "What happened decades ago isn’t part of our history, it is an irrefutable part of our present," Trudeau said.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) published a recall notice this week for canisters of garlic powder sold at Dollarama.

The retail chain is pulling the spice, part of the Heavenly Spices line, from its shelves because of bacillus cereus contamination, the notice said. The spice is sold in a 70-gram container and was available in stores both across Canada as well as online.

The recall was initiated by the company, and has been categorized as Class 2 by the CFIA, indicating a moderate risk that consuming the food may lead to short-term or non-life-threatening health problems.

“Do not use, sell, serve or distribute the affected product,” the recall notice said.

However, prosecutors appealed one of the acquittals, arguing that King’s sentence was too lenient, resulting in the appeal court’s ruling released July 17.

The Freedom Convoy was a loosely affiliated protest movement that saw participants park hundreds of trucks and vehicles in downtown Ottawa in early 2022 to demonstrate against restrictions and vaccine mandates during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The blocking off of areas of downtown Ottawa by protesters lasted for about three weeks from late January until mid-February.

Anand told reporters on July 17 that it was “very difficult” to compare the progress of U.S.-Mexico trade talks with those involving Canada because Ottawa and Mexico City are negotiating different issues with Washington.

“But the starting point for Canada is very much that with both the United States and Mexico, the trade and investment relationship is fundamentally important, and we are committed to protecting and strengthening those relationships, both bilaterally and trilaterally,” she said.

Following the two foreign ministers’ meeting in Ottawa, Anand announced that Canada would provide $12.1 million in funding for projects in Mexico and other Latin American countries.

Zhang Xinyan was elected last year to the Toronto-based “Hong Kong Parliament,” established by Hong Kong democracy activists overseas in response to the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) control of Hong Kong.

Zhang, who is a Falun Dafa practitioner, fled China to Thailand in 2014. Falun Dafa, also known as Falun Gong, is a spiritual meditation practice that is persecuted by China’s communist regime. Practitioners of the discipline in China are subjected to arbitrary arrests, torture, killings, and even live forced organ harvesting.

After Zhang was elected to the “Hong Kong Parliament” in 2025, Hong Kong police issued an arrest warrant for her and placed a HK$200,000 (US$25,000) bounty on her and other members of the Parliament, charging them under the notorious National Security Law. The law, enacted by the CCP in Hong Kong in 2020, has been used by authorities to arrest and imprison protesters and pro-democracy activists.

While in Thailand, Zhang obtained refugee status with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). Toronto-area based Chinese democracy activist Sheng Xue says she helped send Zhang’s case to Global Affairs Canada last year, and Zhang was approved for resettlement in Canada. However, Thai authorities detained her in May, alleging that she had overstayed her visa.

How Ontario First Nation escaped raging wildfire that burned down their community

Chief Helen Paavola was on a plane to Ottawa when the fire reached her community. She spent the morning calling for help and was told the smoke was coming from a wildfire that was still at a safe distance. Before long, the fire was on top of the community.

Namaygoosisagagun First Nation, also known as Collins, is north of Lake Nipigon. Its members got themselves out Monday in a handful of small boats.

The evacuation was done by them. There was no federal, provincial help. There was no other ministry or any entity or whatever you want to call it out there to help them. They did this on their own,” Paavola said.

“The bravery that they showed is incredible. And they deserve to have the recognition for their bravery.”

Every home is gone. Everyone in the community survived.

The report says another employee was dismissed for working remotely from a "country of concern" without authorization, while three others were terminated over alleged criminal activity.

Blacklock's Reporter says the annual report, Addressing Misconduct and Wrongdoing at Global Affairs Canada, does not identify the employee accused of contacting a foreign government or name the country involved.

It says an investigation resulted in the employee's security clearance being revoked before their employment was terminated.

Another employee was fired after investigators determined they had been working remotely from a country considered a security concern without departmental approval.

The report does not identify the country. Canada currently maintains sanctions against two dozen countries, including China, Iran and Russia.

Global Affairs Canada recorded 227 misconduct complaints during the year, up slightly from 218 the previous year.

Following investigations, 92 complaints were substantiated.

In addition to the 25 dismissals, another 11 employees resigned before disciplinary action could be completed.

The report also details the dismissal of three employees accused of engaging in potentially criminal conduct.

"Three employees exploited their employment status to engage in serious unlawful activities of a potentially criminal nature," the report states. "All three employees were terminated."

Other dismissals involved theft, financial misconduct and workplace violence.

Two employees were fired after an office fistfight, while another case involved an employee allegedly using a government-issued acquisition card for personal purchases.

That employee resigned before disciplinary proceedings began.

Many other cases resulted in suspensions or written warnings rather than dismissal.

The report cites incidents involving bullying, yelling, intimidation, insulting language, throwing objects at co-workers, timesheet fraud, expense fraud, falsified résumés, fake doctor's notes, chronic lateness and misleading supervisors.

One employee was disciplined after a substantial amount of cash went missing while replenishing a departmental cash fund. Investigators attributed the loss to procedural negligence.

Global Affairs said employees' willingness to report suspected misconduct may indicate growing confidence that complaints will be investigated.

"The steady willingness of employees to come forward with concerns and report potential misconduct and wrongdoing may reflect growing confidence that issues will be taken seriously and addressed appropriately in our department," the report states.

The department said it remains committed to fostering a workplace culture based on integrity, honesty, trust and respect.

Prediction markets allow users to buy and sell contracts tied to the outcomes of future events, from elections and sporting events to economic data and geopolitical developments. Polymarket has surged in popularity over the past two years, with billions of dollars in trading volume, while drawing scrutiny from regulators over whether its event contracts constitute illegal gambling or unlicensed financial products.

Bear Involved in Deaths of 2 People in Northern Saskatchewan

Two people died in a suspected bear attack near La Ronge in northern Saskatchewan on July 15, according to Saskatchewan’s Ministry of Community Safety.

The bodies of two individuals were found in the area of McTavish Lake, the ministry said in a news release.

The bear suspected to be involved was located and euthanized by conservation officers following the incident, the release says, adding that a necropsy would be performed on the bear’s body at Western College of Veterinary Medicine.

The ministry said the RCMP was initially involved in the investigation, but is no longer involved since the cause of deaths was deemed unsuspicious. A Texas police officer is being honored with the Southlake Police Department’s Meritorious Conduct Award after he saved a man from a burning vehicle last month.

Police body camera footage released by the Southlake Department of Public Safety shows the moment along Texas State Highway 114, where, within minutes of stopping the car with heavy smoke coming out, the entire vehicle was engulfed in flames.

The car is seen driving by the parked police car emitting smoke, then coming to a stop about one minute later. Immediately upon stopping, the car ignites in flames.

Corporal Joshua Swisher ran from his car, screaming, “Get out of the car now! Get out! Get out! Get out!”

Upon realizing the driver was stuck inside, he smashed the window and pulled the man out, then ensured no one else was in the car.

Within a minute, according to timestamps, the vehicle was seen on cruiser dashcam footage completely on fire as firefighters arrived at the scene. Continue…

Florida Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna is fighting back hard against a classic Swamp smear.

On Saturday, the Wall Street Journal published a report alleging that Rep. Luna told associates in the summer of 2024 that she knew President Trump would select Sen. JD Vance as his running mate and that she tipped off popular MAGA influencer Rogan O’Handley (better known as DC Draino) so he could place a winning bet on the prediction market platform Polymarket.

The Journal’s claim, based on anonymous sources and a person “familiar with the conversation,” suggested Luna bragged about the tip during a lunch and even teased O’Handley for not betting bigger.

The CFTC is reportedly looking into aspects of political betting, but Luna’s office made clear the real story is very different.

The US military is bombing Iran for what is now the ninth straight day of renewed fighting, in a campaign which has expanded to include both civic and military infrastructure, also as Iranian retaliatory attacks keep up the pressure on the Gulf states, and have reached into Jordan, which deadly effect on an American base there.

Iranian authorities have said at least 50 people were killed and more than 500 after the return to war in the last three weeks. State media has reported that eight were killed in a single bridge strike on Friday.

The Pentagon said Sunday a third US servicemember was killed in northern Iraq Sunday, in what's being described as an accidental death during a "controlled detonation" of a downed Iranian attack drone.

The US has identified that Lieutenant Tyler James Feehan, 25, of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, and Private Isabella Gonzales, 19, of Carrollton, Texas, were killed in the Jordan attacks Friday. They were there as part of the ongoing 'counter-ISIS' mission, the Pentagon further indicated.
