Ukraine’s top general admits ‘difficult’ battlefield situation

The Russian military has been steadily pushing back Kiev’s forces along the entire front line in recent months

The battlefield situation for Kiev’s forces remains “difficult,” Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief Aleksandr Syrsky has admitted, as Russian troops continue to make advances along several sectors across the front line.

Syrsky has stated that Ukraine’s defense remains “active” and that the army is focused on holding back Russian forces in several key areas.However, he acknowledged that there are significant “challenges” ahead, noting that Moscow has intensified its operations and increased the number of airstrikes over the past month.

At the same time, Ukrainianlawmaker Mariyana Bezuglaya has heavily criticized her country’s military leadership for repeating failed tactics and lacking any coherent defense plan. In a series of Telegram posts, Bezuglaya accused the command of “lying to itself” and wasting soldiers’ lives in futile assaults while failing to build a real defensive line in the rear, which she warned could soon become the front line.

Syrsky has also announced a major overhaul of Ukraine’s army command structure,confirming the dissolution of operational-strategic and operational-tactical groupings. The general said the move aims to simplify management and improve efficiency.

However, Vladimir Rogov, a member of Russia’s Civic Chamber, has claimed that Syrsky’s restructuring is actually part of aninternal power struggle within Ukraine’s command, which he described as a “jar of spiders gnawing at each other.”

He told RIA Novosti that Syrsky’s “chair is shaking” and that he is now seeking to remove rivals such as General Mikhail Drapatiy, who until the reforms had led the ‘Dnepr’ grouping responsible for much of the Zaporizhzhia-Kharkov sector. ==Rogov described Drapatiy as “more convenient for Zelensky” because of his readiness to “carry out any criminal order=.”

Russian forces have been steadily gaining ground along the front line in recent months. Chief of the Russian General Staff Valery Gerasimov has said Moscow’s troops are advancing in nearly all directions, while Ukrainian units are focusing on crisis points to slow the offensive.Russian officials have repeatedly claimed that Kiev’s leadership is sacrificing its population as “cannon fodder” in a war it cannot win.

(I agree they are just keeping the war going without much success. So Bidan and Zelensky stating they will fight to the last Ukrainian, was and is true. Zelensky will invite Africans to come and fight when they have no more.)

Mainstream media rejects Pentagon’s new press rules

US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has sent a ‘goodbye’ emoji to the outlets protesting his policy

Media outlets including the Washington Post, the New York Times, CNN, AP, and Reuters have saidtheir journalists will not sign new Pentagon press access rules introduced by US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth.

Under the updated policy, journalists could be deemed “a security or safety risk” if they reach out to employees at the recently renamed Department of War for sensitive information to be used in their reporting on the US military. The media workers have been told by the Pentagon to sign the new rules by Tuesday or give up their press passes on Wednesday.

The Washington Post said in a statement on Monday thatthe proposed rules “undercut First Amendment protections by placing unnecessary constraints” on journalists. The New York Times accused the Pentagon of threatening to punish reporters for “ordinary news gathering.”

The Wall Street Journal, CNN, AP, Reuters, NPR, and The Atlantic are also among those to reject the Pentagon’s demand.

Broadcaster Newsmax, which is seen as supportive of the administration of US President Donald Trump, said that “we believe the requirements are unnecessary and onerous and hope that the Pentagon with review the matter further.”

Most of the protesting outlets said their journalists will continue to cover the US military thoroughly even if they lose their press credentials.

Hegseth responded to the refusal to sign the new policy by posting a ‘goodbye’ emoji on X under the statements by the Washington Post, NYT, and other media organizations.

The secretary of war said on Monday that therules were about making sure that “press no longer roams free… wear visible badge… [and] no longer permitted to solicit criminal acts.”

The Pentagon Press Association, which represents reporters working at the Department of War, said last weekthat Hegseth has been “systematically limiting access to information about the US military” since the arrival of the Trump administration at the White House.

Hegseth previously removed NBC News, the NYT, and Politico from their office spaces at the Pentagon, although their journalists maintained access to the building. He also banned reporters from accessing most hallways at the Department of War’s headquarters without an official escort.

Illinois Activist Judge Orders ICE to Tear Down Security Fence Protecting Federal Facility

U.S. District Court Judge LaShonda Hunt, a Biden-appointed federal judge in Illinois, has ordered the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and ICE to dismantle a security fence protecting the federal immigration processing facility in Broadview, Illinois, a facility that has been the site of violent protests and anti-ICE riots since the launch of President Trump’s Operation Midway Blitz earlier this fall.

Judge Hunt granted the Village of Broadview’s emergency motion for a temporary restraining order, finding that the Department of Homeland Security and ICE acted “ultra vires,” beyond their lawful authority, when they ordered an eight-foot fence to be installed across Beach Street without local consent.

In her 18-page ruling, Hunt blasted DHS for ‘commandeering municipal property’ and declared the fence a public safety hazard that interferes with local emergency access, particularly for fire trucks and ambulances responding to incidents at or near the facility.

“…As a result of the Federal Defendants prohibiting the Village from having unencumbered access to its municipal street, the Village argues it is prevented from applying its ordinances to ‘protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public, ‘ which constitutes irreparable harm. The Court agrees,” Hunt wrote.

The fence was installed after violent demonstrations erupted outside the ICE processing center following a crackdown on hundreds of criminal illegal aliens across Chicago and its sanctuary suburbs.

ICE officials insisted the barrier was necessary to protect staff and detainees, citing incidents of vandalism, tire-slashing, and blocked vehicles by anti-ICE protesters.

Moscow contrasts Trump’s Time ‘triumph’ cover with Biden portraits

The outlet used to print flattering photos of the ailing Democratic president, Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman has said

Time magazine’s latest cover celebrating US President Donald Trump’s Middle East diplomacysharply contrasts with the way it used to promote his Democratic predecessor, Joe Biden, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has said.

The magazine used a photo of Trump showing the president from a low angle,emphasizing his chin folds, for a cover story marking what it called his “triumph” in brokering a ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas.Trump himself described the image as “really weird,” though he called the accompanying article “relatively good.”

“Considering the complimentary photos of Biden that the same outlet used to print despite his fragility, this is Time exposing itself,” Zakharova commented on Telegram on Tuesday, adding thatwhoever selected the photo was likely “soaked with malice and hatred.”

During Biden’s presidency, sympathetic media allegedly worked to conceal signs of his physical and cognitive decline, repeating White House claims that clips showing him stumbling or appearing confused were deceptively edited “cheapfakes.” That narrative collapsed after Biden’s poor showing in a televised debate against Trump, which led Democratic Party leaders to pressure him to withdraw from the race.

Time printed Biden on its cover multiple times, including in June 2024 for a story titled ‘If He Wins’ detailing his ultimately-aborted presidential campaign. The then president was shown in a black-and-white photo in the Oval Office.

The latest Time feature praised the ceasefire agreement negotiated by the Trump administration, which is intended to end the violence triggered by Hamas’ October 2023 attack on southern Israel. The truce, endorsed at an international conference in Egypt, has been hailed by several Arab states as a diplomatic breakthrough.

Poland is not able to indefinitely accept new waves of Ukrainian refugees and must focus on adapting those already living on its territory.

This was stated by the head of the Polish Presidential Bureau of International Policy, Marcin Przydach, on RMF24 .

According to him, there are currently about 1.5 million Ukrainian citizens in Poland. At the same time, only 26 thousand Ukrainians have received Polish citizenship over the past five years, which indicates slow integration. Przydach emphasized that the excessive number of newcomers may exceed the state’s capabilities for adaptation and enculturation of migrants.

“When the scale exceeds the possibilities of inculturation, problems begin. We do not want such problems in Poland. I think we are already at the limit – we cannot accept any more,” Przydach noted.

He also warned that separate areas are already beginning to form in the country, where mostly migrants live. That is why the authorities consider it necessary to focus on integration processes for those Ukrainians who already live in Poland.

In the context of migration, Przydach noted thatPoland is open to accepting war refugees, but the decision to accept migrants should be made by the state itself, not by European institutions.

“Each state has the right to decide whether to accept such migrants for permanent residence or only provide them with assistance, for example, in the form of support for refugees on the spot,” the minister said.

As a reminder, the Polish Senate supported without any amendments the bill on foreigners and assistance to Ukrainians who are in the country due to the war . The document extends the legal status of Ukrainian refugees until March 4, 2026, but at the same time tightens the conditions for providing financial and social support.

Also, Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Iryna Vereshchuk stated that Ukraine should prepare a social support system for refugees who plan to return from abroad.

Authorities in Kiev have officially reduced the heating season by one month due to gas shortages

The authorities in Kiev have officially shortened the national heating season by one month amid mounting gas shortages and infrastructure failures, while the mayor of a major central Ukrainian city has described Ukraine’s heating situation as dire.

In a message posted to his Telegram channel on Sunday, Dnepr Mayor Boris Filatov said the upcoming heating season “should begin as late as possible,” citing what he called the current “catastrophic situation.” He urged residents to take all possible steps to endure the coming months, stressing that the winter “will definitely not be easy.”

The mayor’s remarks came as the Ukrainian government issued a decree on Monday setting this year’s heating season from November 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026 – one month shorter than usual. Newsmax Obtains Dashcam Video Contradicting Alec Baldwin's Car Crash Story

Newsmax has obtained exclusive dashcam footage that appears to contradict Alec Baldwin's account of how he and his brother Stephen Baldwin were involved in a car crash Monday afternoon.

The 1-minute, 29-second front-facing video, taken from the commercial truck Alec Baldwin claims cut him off, shows the truck making a legal right turn onto Montauk Highway in East Hampton, New York, before Alec Baldwin's white Range Rover comes into view — and moments later, slams into a tree along the roadside.

The footage begins with the truck exiting a parking lot and making a routine right turn.

Roughly 30 seconds in, Alec Baldwin's vehicle appears to attempt to pass the truck on the right, before veering onto the shoulder and striking a large tree head-on.

The video then captures the aftermath, including the Range Rover's crumpled front end.

In a video posted to Instagram late Monday, Alec Baldwin claimed a "garbage truck the size of a whale" cut him off, forcing him to swerve to avoid a collision.

"To avoid hitting him, I hit a tree. I hit a big fat tree and crushed my car — my wife's car," he said.

But the dashcam footage obtained by Newsmax tells a different story.

The truck Alec Baldwin blamed for "cutting him off" does not appear to impede his path.

Instead, the footage shows Alec Baldwin's vehicle attempting to maneuver around the truck after it had already completed its turn.

There is no visible indication that the truck forced Alec Baldwin from his lane, nor any sudden obstruction requiring evasive action. Seconds later, his SUV loses control and crashes into the tree.

The East Hampton Police Department has not indicated any ongoing investigation beyond standard accident procedures, and no citations have been issued.

"I crushed my wife's car. I feel bad about that. But it's all fine, and I'm fine, and my brother's fine," the "Rust" actor said.

The 67-year-old actor said Stephen Baldwin, 59, was in the passenger seat.

Alec Baldwin said he was shaken but grateful that both escaped unharmed.

He added, "The car's pretty smashed up, but that's OK."

He also thanked emergency responders from the East Hampton Police Department, particularly Officer Gerken, who he described as "a lovely guy."

"Thank you to the East Hampton Police Department, the town police department, for coming to my aid," Alec Baldwin said. "As nice as can be, as pleasant as can be about the whole thing."

Alec Baldwin went on to say he planned to leave New York shortly after the crash.

"I'm going to LA to see my family, can't wait," he told followers.

"Going out to California to gather my family together, spend a few days out there and then come home."

Stephen Baldwin's representative confirmed that both brothers were doing well after the crash and expressed appreciation for the concern shown by fans.

"Stephen is doing fine and is grateful no one was injured," the representative said in a statement to Us Weekly.

"He's relieved that this was just an accident with no serious injuries," the statement continued, "and both brothers are taking time to rest."

The crash occurred shortly after the Baldwin brothers attended the Hamptons International Film Festival, where they promoted their podcast, "One Bad Movie."

A small earthquake rattled upstate New York on an ancient fault that occasionally reawakens, producing a brief but noticeable tremor in the region.

The US Geological Survey (USGS) detected a magnitude 2.6 quake on Monday at 11:40pm ET, just outside Chazy, about 25 miles south of Montreal, at a shallow depth of roughly five miles.

The quake occurred far from any tectonic plate boundary, deep within the North American Plate, making it a rare intraplate earthquake.

Tremors like this are uncommon in the northeastern US, where ancient faults only occasionally release built-up stress.

The tremor was lightly felt across the Lake Champlain Valley, including Plattsburgh, New York and Alburgh, Vermont, where residents reported a quick jolt lasting only a few seconds. More than 100 locals reported feeling shaking to the USGS.

This quake is unusual because the region lies far from plate boundaries, and its ancient faults only rarely release built-up stress.

The USGS noted that earthquakes of this size are unusual but not unheard of along the northern Appalachian fault zones.

No injuries or damage were reported; however, local emergency officials advised homeowners to inspect their foundations and outbuildings for cracks as a precaution.

The earthquake highlights how even ancient, deep-seated faults can produce noticeable tremors far from plate boundaries.

The Adirondack region has seen several notable earthquakes over the years.

==The largest on record struck in 1944, a magnitude 5.8 quake=+ that caused roughly $20 million in damage in Massena, New York and Cornwall, Ontario.

A magnitude 4.9 tremor in 1983 caused minor damage in a remote part of the southern Adirondacks, and a magnitude 5.0 quake near Plattsburgh, New York, on April 20, 2002, also produced localized damage.

Moderately damaging earthquakes typically occur somewhere in the region every few decades, while smaller quakes are felt every three to four years.

While Monday's earthquake was small, an assessment from Michigan Tech University showed that people typically do not feel quakes with a magnitude of 2.5 or less.

Those from 2.5 to 5.4 are often felt but only cause minor damage.

The area near Chazy is situated within the Champlain Thrust Fault Zone, a significant geological feature that extends from southern Quebec through western Vermont and into eastern New York.

This east-dipping thrust fault was primarily active during the Taconic Orogeny in the Ordovician period, approximately 450 million years ago, and has experienced reactivation during subsequent tectonic events, such as the Acadian Orogeny in the Devonian period.

Although the Champlain Thrust is an ancient fault, it is not considered dormant.

The region's seismic activity, including the recent magnitude 2.6 earthquake near Chazy, suggests that these faults can still produce noticeable tremors, albeit infrequently.

Washington, D.C. – The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has obtained credible intelligence indicating that Mexican criminals, in coordination with domestic extremist groups have placed targeted bounties on U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) personnel.

These criminal networks have issued explicit instructions to U.S.-based sympathetics, including street gangs in Chicago, to monitor, harass, and assassinate federal agents. Specific details from ongoing investigations include:

Spotter Networks: In neighborhoods like Chicago's Pilsen and Little Village, gang members affiliated with groups such as the Latin Kings have deployed "spotters" on rooftops equipped with firearms and radio communications. These individuals track ICE and CBP movements in real-time, relaying coordinates. This surveillance has enabled ambushes and disruptions during routine enforcement actions, including recent raids under Operation Midway Blitz.

A few years back, I kept tripping across one of the many “disinformation experts” who popped up during the COVID pandemic like mushrooms on a rotten log after a hard night’s rain. I had no clue who Imran Ahmed was, nor his Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH), but the Biden White House plucked him from obscurity to anoint him an expert on COVID vaccines and to censor their critics.

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki quoted from a CCDH report, at a July 2021 press briefing, and accused Facebook of undermining Biden’s federal vaccine policies. “There’s about 12 people who are producing 65% of anti-vaccine misinformation on social media platforms,” Psaki claimed, warning social media companies to shut down these “misinformation” accounts. One of the people targeted by that report, just happened to be a direct threat to President Biden—Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who was planning to run against Biden as the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee.

“They’re killing people,” President Biden told a reporter, leveling the charge of murder against Facebook for providing a platform for people such as Kennedy.

Intrigued, I began digging into the Center for Countering Digital Hate. In a 3,300-word investigation for Tablet, I exposed CCDH—not for being a trusted source on vaccines—but as a fraudulent political operation formed by two staffers working for the British Labour Party: Morgan McSweeney and Imran Ahmed. These two characters created CCDH and several other dark money nonprofits to install Keir Starmer as the head of Labour. Starmer is now the Prime Minister of England and Morgan McSweeney is his chief of staff. After its success in the UK, CCDH then began operating in DC and coordinating with Democrats to attack critics of the Biden administration.

Right before the U.S. elections, I released internal documents given to me by a whistleblower working at CCDH that showed the group’s goal was to “Kill Musk’s Twitter.” Co-written with Matt Taibbi, the “Kill Musk’s Twitter” article rocketed across the internet with follow stories appearing in The Spectator, Guardian, The Express Tribune, The Telegraph, UnHerd, and the Washington Post.

An artificial intelligence (AI) model has revealed never-before-seen geological structures at Italy's Campi Flegrei volcano, including a clear "ring fault" that could unleash magnitude 5 earthquakes.

So far in 2025, Campi Flegrei has produced five earthquakes above magnitude 4, and the volcano has been showing signs of unrest since 2005.

But most of the earthquakes triggered in the region are going undetected, according to a new study that used AI to pinpoint tens of thousands of seismic events that have gone under the radar over the past few years.

"We've known that this is a risky place for a long time," study co-author William Ellsworth, a professor emeritus of geophysics at Stanford University, said in a statement. "Now we're seeing for the first time the geologic structures that are responsible."

Over the past 40,000 years, Campi Flegrei has produced two of the largest eruptions in Europe, and evidence suggests the volcano's earlier history was just as explosive.

Scientists have been recording unrest at Campi Flegrei since the 1950s, but monitoring efforts increased in the 1980s after a swarm of 16,000 earthquakes prompted the evacuation of 40,000 residents.

To investigate modern threats from Campi Flegrei, Ellsworth and his colleagues developed an AI tool capable of identifying earthquakes that previous methods couldn't pick out.

Traditionally, seismologists identify earthquakes by analyzing seismograms, which are graphs with wiggly lines that represent shaking in the ground over time.

Researchers look for a sudden increase in the wiggles' size, and this process is known as "phase picking," said study co-author Greg Beroza, a professor of geophysics at Stanford University.

"That's a simple and often effective means of picking a phase, but it doesn't 'learn' how to do it better so that it improves with time," Beroza told Live Science in an email.

"In our approach, we train a machine learning model to pick phases. We base it on the collection of millions of examples where experts have done this already, and our method is designed to learn how to do this more effectively."

The team chose to have their tool analyze Campi Flegrei before other volcanoes for several reasons, including there being an urgent need to better understand this volcano's behavior, Beroza said.

More than 360,000 people live inside Campi Flegrei's 7-mile-long (11 kilometers) caldera, and roughly 1.5 million people reside in the wider area.

Unrest over the past 20 years ticked up in 2018 — and while there are currently no signs of an eruption, a particularly violent or shallow earthquake could present a huge danger to people as well as damage buildings, according to the statement.

Carrie Romney, 64, was found dead next to a parking garage in the Town Center area of the neighborhood, according to ABC News.

Homicide investigators responded to the scene around 9 p.m.

Preliminary information indicated she may have jumped or fallen from the garage, according to sources.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner listed her cause of death as "deferred" while toxicology tests were pending. The Sheriff's Department told ABC News it is conducting a death investigation.

An investigation is ongoing, and investigators are waiting on an official cause of death from the medical examiner.

Mitt Romney was the governor of Massachusetts from 2003 to 2007, and was the GOP nominee in the 2012 presidential election. He served as senator of Utah from 2019 to 2025.

Sikorsky, a Lockheed Martin company, has unveiled a fully autonomous version of its iconic Black Hawk helicopter, converting a UH-60L into what it calls the S-70UAS U-Hawk, an uncrewed, multi-mission aircraft built in less than a year.

The U-Hawk prototype, revealed at the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) exposition on October 13, marks a major step toward transforming one of the US military’s most proven utility helicopters into a next-generation unmanned system.

According to Sikorsky, the company replaced the UH-60L’s cockpit with actuated clamshell doors and a rear ramp, allowing roll-on and roll-off cargo operations.

The aircraft’s traditional mechanical flight controls were swapped for a third-generation, low-cost fly-by-wire system powered by MATRIX autonomy technology, the same system tested in earlier optionally piloted Black Hawk demonstrations.

Sikorsky said the aircraft has 25 percent more cargo space than the standard Black Hawk and can operate without a crew on board.

“The company is innovating a 21st-century solution by converting UH-60L Black Hawks into a fully autonomous utility platform,” said Rich Benton, Sikorsky’s vice president and general manager.

“We developed this prototype from concept to reality in under a year, and the modifications can be replicated at scale quickly and affordably.

The U-Hawk continues the Black Hawk legacy as the world’s premier utility aircraft, opening the door to new capabilities as a UAS.”

Expanded mission capabilities

The U-Hawk has a new fuselage design that increases usable cabin space by 25% compared to the standard UH-60L Black Hawk. This change allows for greater flexibility in its operations by removing the cockpit and crew systems.

A larger cabin now allows the aircraft to transport oversized or long cargo, including missile pods and uncrewed ground vehicles, with the help of its new clamshell doors and loading ramp.

According to Sikorsky, the U-Hawk can accommodate up to four Joint Modular Intermodal Containers, double the capacity of the legacy Black Hawk.

It can also carry specialized payloads such as a six-rocket HIMARS pod or two Naval Strike Missiles, enabling new strike and resupply missions that previously required dedicated aircraft.

The expanded interior can be configured to roll drones or robotic vehicles directly on and off the aircraft, supporting seamless integration with ground-based autonomous systems such as the HDT Hunter Wolf 6×6 uncrewed vehicle.

Added space can also be used for internal fuel tanks, extending the helicopter’s endurance and range for long-duration missions.

Sikorsky said the U-Hawk could self-deploy across more than 1,600 nautical miles (1,840 miles) or loiter for up to 14 hours without refueling, a major leap for utility-class unmanned rotorcraft.

The U-Hawk can lift 9,000 pounds using its cargo hook, making it suitable for Black Hawk missions like sling-load transport and tactical resupply.

These changes make the U-Hawk a flexible tool for logistics, strike, and reconnaissance operations.

Sikorsky combines the strength of the Black Hawk with MATRIX flight technology to develop a utility aircraft that can fly autonomously in risky areas. This approach helps lower costs, reduces the need for crew, and simplifies operations.

Fully autonomous operations

Instead of pilots, U-Hawk missions are commanded by operators using a tablet interface that controls the aircraft from start-up to shutdown.

At the press of a button, the U-Hawk automatically opens its doors and lowers its ramp for loading. Once cargo is secured, the system reverses the sequence to prepare for flight.

Operators input mission goals on the tablet, and the MATRIX autonomy software generates and executes a flight plan, using onboard sensors and algorithms to navigate safely and avoid obstacles.

“The U-Hawk offers a cost-effective utility UAS by leveraging commonality with the existing UH-60 fleet,” said Igor Cherepinsky, director of Sikorsky Innovations.

“Its uncrewed nature reduces both operating and maintenance costs. We focused on efficiencies in retrofitting—designing and manufacturing new flight computers, actuators, and airframe modifications that will carry over into our future UAS family.”

U-Hawk program is led by Sikorsky Innovations, the company’s rapid prototyping arm. Sikorsky said the first flight of the fully autonomous U-Hawk is expected in 2026. It represents a broader Lockheed Martin effort to blend autonomy and crewed aviation.

The company has previously demonstrated that it optionally piloted Black Hawks under DARPA’s ALIAS program, where the helicopter flew and landed autonomously with no crew on board.

The Trump administration is preparing to launch a $500 million federal initiative to strengthen U.S. airspace security ahead of next summer's FIFA World Cup, according to Politico.

The effort will provide funds to state and local governments to develop anti-drone strategies aimed at preventing potential aerial threats at large gatherings, including the 2026 World Cup — which will be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico — the U.S. semiquincentennial in 2026, and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, according to the report.

Andrew Giuliani, director of the White House's FIFA World Cup 2026 Task Force, told Politico the funding will be available to all 50 states, but most heavily used to secure the 104 soccer matches scheduled in U.S. stadiums.

Officials envision local police and security forces using hand-held technology to detect and disable unauthorized drones or order them to return to their launch points.

"Everybody from the governors to the stadium chief security officer say this is something they need in order to protect the [World Cup] sites," Giuliani said.

The program, funded through the Department of Homeland Security under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act enacted in July, reflects growing concern over uncrewed aerial threats — including terrorism, espionage, criminal misuse, and reckless hobbyists.

At present, only federal agencies are authorized to intercept or disable drones. Politico reported the administration is exploring a contingency plan allowing the Department of Justice to temporarily authorize state and local officials to neutralize drones if Congress fails to expand its powers.

Sebastian Gorka, the National Security Council's senior director for counterterrorism, told Politico the program underscores how drones have become both vital and dangerous.

"Drones are a disruptive technology. They have amazing potential for both good and ill," Gorka said.

The initiative also aligns with President Donald Trump's broader strategy to accelerate domestic drone innovation and reduce dependence on foreign technology.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has called drones part of a "weapons-technology revolution," warning they are increasingly used to "smuggle deadly drugs, target our infrastructure, and spy on U.S. defenses."

Over 50 politicians and officials in Mexico are reported to have lost their visas as Trump looks to increase diplomatic pressure.

The Trump administration has revoked the visas of more than 50 Mexican officials and politicians for alleged connections to various cartels. More officials are likely to lose their visas as the administration looks to both cut off the cartels and increase pressure on the Mexican government to take a harder line against the criminal elements within the country.

'This situation occurs in a complex binational context.'

In a statement to Reuters, a senior U.S. State Department official said that visas held by foreign officials can be revoked "at any time" if the official is engaging in "activities that run contrary to America's national interest."

Mexico is not the first Latin American country to have officials lose their U.S. visas. According to the Guardian, more than 20 judges in Brazil have had their visas revoked, and 14 politicians and businessmen in Costa Rica have lost their visas.

Only a few Mexican officials have publicly stated that their visas have been revoked, as visa records are private under U.S. law. The governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar Avila, stated in May that both she and her husband had their visas revoked. In a post on X, she wrote that "this situation occurs in a complex binational context."

Her husband, Carlos Torres Torres, is a former member of the House of Deputies, the lower house of Mexico's Congress. Both Torres and Avila are members of Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum's Morena party.

These visa crackdowns are part of a wider Trump administration policy of taking a hard line against the criminal elements in South and Central America. In addition to increased diplomatic pressure on Mexico and other Latin American countries, the administration has deployed Navy assets to the Caribbean and conducted lethal strikes on boats being used by cartels to smuggle drugs.

Despite reports that many of the Mexican officials who have lost their visas are members of the ruling Morena party, the U.S. State Department told Reuters that the U.S. has "a good working relationship" with the Mexican government and "look[s] forward to continuing to advance our bilateral relationship in the interest of the America first foreign policy agenda."
