Minnesota Dem Mayor Kaohly Her accused of sending vulgar text about ‘a good weinering’ to city staffer

A Democratic mayor in Minnesota is being investigated for sexual harassment after she allegedly sent nauseating text messages to staffers — including one about getting a “good weinering.”

Kaohly Her, the first female mayor of Saint Paul, is being probed just six months into her term after the police chief, Axel Henry, filed a formal complaint with the city attorney on April 1, alleging that she sent “inappropriate, and indeed, unlawful text messages” to city staffers.

In one disturbing chain of texts, Her, 53, wished a staffer “Happy Weiner Wednesday,” according to the complaint obtained by KSTP.

“Wish I was having a [hotdog emoji] with you all on 6 today,” the text continued.

The mayor then allegedly sent an altered image of a baby wrapped in a blanket, along with the message, “When she wraps you up in her blanket after you gave her a good weinering.”

The face of the baby in the altered image was redacted in the complaint; however, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reported that it was the face of an officer who had previously worked as part of her security team.

While the term “weiner” can refer to hot dogs, it also has sexual connotations.

“The city is on notice that Mayor Her has engaged in illegal conduct towards City employees,” Henry’s lawyer Chris Madel wrote in the complaint, sent to Saint Paul City Attorney Irene Kao.

College professors are typically an uninspiring bunch this century, best known for pettiness and groupthink.Even among the puny number of professors who support MAGA, many are terrified to speak up,worried they might endanger the academic posts it took them years of ass-kissing to obtain.

Candeub, to say the least, is not like that. As a law professor, Candeub was admirably fearless. When Trump was indicted by Fani Willis in Fulton County, Candeub was eager “to tell any interested person that the indictment is bullshit.”. His Rate My Professors page includes one review that carries the warning “snowflakes stay home.” Another remarks on his use of “non-PC language.” But at the same time, students who don’t share his politics praise his vast intelligence and have called him “engaging and fair.”

A Michigan State law professor since 2004, Candeub could easily have coasted as a quiet Trump supporter in a job it’d be virtually impossible to fire him from, barring some kind of egregious misconduct. Instead, as tech censorship began itsugly surge in the years of President Trump’s first term, Candeub stepped forward to spearhead the fight against it.

In the final year of Trump 1.0,Candeub joined the National Telecommunications and Information Administration as deputy assistant secretary, and within four months was elevated to acting assistant secretary of commerce for communications and information, the job that runs the agency.There he implemented the president’s executive order targeting online censorship. That same year, White House officials made afirst attempt at slotting Candeub into the antitrust enforcement job. Attorney General William Barr sabotaged the move, though, ostensibly on the grounds thatCandeub was too inexperienced.

Thwarted but undeterred, Candeub spent the following four years as a leading figure in laying the legal and policy groundwork for a second, greater Trump administration.

Back in 2020, while most of the country was convulsed by Covid and George Floyd,Candeub published an article in the Yale Journal of Law & Technology titled “Bargaining for Free Speech: Common Carriage, Network Neutrality, and Section 230.” Beneath thebland title was an important idea. Candeub proposed simply treating America’s social media giants the same as ISPs and telephone companies — label them as “common carriers” who, because they serve the entire public, are barred from discriminating against any part of it.Doing so, he said, would protect free speech and American companies from intrusive interference from both competitors and the government. “One of common carriage’s anti-discrimination obligations’ great virtues isthat it protects private entities from complying with government’s censorship demands,” Candeub explained. “A private company with no legal obligation to treat users in a non-discriminatory fashion readily can accede government’s request to censor, block, or otherwise treat users unfairly.But, if a private firm is prohibited by law to do so, then the government cannot even ask. Thus, a unified liability regime is necessary to protects users and the free flow of ideas from the weakest link.”

The article received little attention until the spring of 2021, when Justice Clarence Thomas cited it in a concurring opinion. “In many ways, digital platforms that hold themselves out to the public resemble traditional common carriers,” Thomas wrote. “Though digital instead of physical, they are at bottom communications networks, and they ‘carry’ information from one user to another. […] Similar to utilities, today’s dominant digital platforms derive much of their value from network size.”

In the words of The Washington Post,Thomas’s opinion “sent shock waves through Silicon Valley” — a rare feat for a 12-page concurrence!

Candeub then wrote the final chapter of Project 2025, laying out what a new MAGA administration could do to reform the Federal Trade Commission.

In the chapter,Candeub called for taking decisive action against the coercive use of DEI and ESG to inject left-wing political prioritiesinto American corporate life while also skirting the law.

“Antitrust law can combat dominant firms’ baleful effects on democratic institutions such as free speech, the marketplace of ideas, shareholder control, and managerial accountability as well as collusive behavior with government,” Candeub wrote. “Practices such as Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) requirements on publicly traded corporations and their inclusion in business agreements, the so-called “de-banking” of industries and individuals, and the interference of large internet firms with democratic political discourse undermine liberal democracy, a truly open society, and, indeed, rule of law.”

To fix the problem, Candeub called forthe FTC to “set up an ESG/DEI collusion task force to investigate firms—particularly in private equity—to see if they are using the practice as a means to meet targets, fix prices, or reduce output.”

In short, Candeub gets it.He is a man who sees the value —the necessity — of embracing a grander vision for the DOJ’s antitrust arm. Breaking up anticompetitive monopolies still matters, of course — and where they exist, Americans can expect Candeub to act.But America also needs an enforcer ready to take action when a bank tries to close a customer’s account due to their tweets, when a startup can’t get a loan because it is willing to work with ICE,or when an asset manager uses trillions under management to enforce climate orthodoxy across the business world.

While Candeub cares deeply about Big Tech censorship, he is not beholden to a “Populism, Inc.” perspective of deploying antitrust tools recklessly. Indeed, he has spoken out against burdensome antitrust proposals that would simply harm American tech companies without addressing the underlying problem of censorship.

Adam Candeub is ready to act, and he knows exactly how.The only thing standing between him and the job is a Senate vote, and there is no good reason to delay it.Americans will be blessed to have him fighting on their behalf these next few years at DOJ. The Senate should send him there posthaste.

This week features the 2014 Moriond Electroweak conference at La Thuile, Italy. More than a 100 particle physicists gather from all around the world. Started 50 years ago, this conference is still very valued, year after year, due to the high quality of the talks. The Moriond winter conference is one of the most exciting conferences, as all the particle physics experiments present their brand new results, but it is also appealing because of the mountains and the great Italian food.

Being a particle physicist is an amazing job. In theory. But not always in practice. Understanding the fundamental laws ruling the universe is indeed exciting, but our daily work usually includes endless fights with reluctant computers, digging into the cryptic world of the C++ coding and GRID error messages, working countless hours for months or even years to come up with new ideas and new analyses to challenge the theoretical predictions, and finally opening the box of data to find out that there is actually nothing to be found out. Even if not finding anything is sometimes a scientific result worth publishing, it can be quite frustrating at times.

That's why taking a few days off from the computer and a few steps back is an absolute necessity for many of us. It's a great way to return to the original excitement, an opportunity to look at our field with fresh eyes, a rested mind, to see only the beauty behind the fights. It's also a way to meet new people, outside of a confined meeting room, in a more relaxed environment, discuss and challenge the new results on a ski-lift, elaborate new projects, and go back home with renewed inspiration and motivation.

PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: Well, I watched the whole thing today, but more importantly, I was a part of the whole Fauci. I inherited Fauci. He was here from the 1980s, so I had him for a period of time, and I disagreed with him on a lot.

I would have had to close down the whole country if I listened to him. I went the Federalist way, which is basically to let the governors decide. And generally speaking, the Republican governors did very well, the Democrat governors did not very well.

But Fauci wanted to have nobody wearing masks, if you remember, and then everybody had to wear five masks, as many masks as you could get. I mean, he made a lot of mistakes. And he wasn't a big factor for me, he was a very big factor for Biden.

And if you remember, even though we were sort of primetime in terms of that whole disaster of COVID, far people died fewer in the Trump administration than in the Biden administration. We ran it well, Operation Warp Speed was talked about as being one of the great success stories anywhere in the world, actually. And we did a good job.

But many more people died under Biden than died in the Trump administration from COVID. COVID was a disaster, but Fauci did not help.

The Dan David Foundation was founded in 2000 with a $100 million endowment by Romanian-born Israeli businessman and philanthropist Dan David.[7] The Dan David Prize was founded with the goal of rewarding and encouraging innovative and interdisciplinary research that cuts across traditional boundaries and paradigms.[8][non-primary source needed] Each year, three prizes of $1 million were awarded in rotating fields to those who made outstanding contributions to humanity. Its founding director from 1999 until 2002 was Gad Barzilai.[9] Its chairman since 2007 is Itamar Rabinovich.[10]

In anticipation of the prize's 20th anniversary in 2021, the Dan David Prize refocused in a new direction, citing the decline of global investment in the humanities and the relative scarcity of major prizes in the humanities. The redesigned prize focuses on supporting outstanding research in the historical disciplines and celebrating scholars and practitioners whose work illuminates the human past and enriches public debate with a deeper understanding of history.[2]

Fauci wins $1 million Israeli prize for 'defending science'

Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious diseases expert, has won a $1 million Israeli prize for “defending science” throughout his career.

The Dan David Foundation, which is based at Tel Aviv University, said on Monday that Fauci has won the prize for “courageously defending science in the face of uninformed opposition during the challenging COVID crisis,” the Seattle Times reported.

“As the COVID-19 pandemic unraveled, [Fauci] leveraged his considerable communication skills to address people gripped by fear and anxiety and worked relentlessly to inform individuals in the United States and elsewhere about the public health measures essential for containing the pandemic’s spread,” the foundation’s awards committee said.

Fauci has been at the forefront of the pandemic as he worked with former President Trump and President Biden to protect the country from the coronavirus.

Since the pandemic began, Fauci has become one of the most trusted voices on the pandemic, informing the public about the importance of masks and social distancing as well as coming up with plans for the coronavirus vaccine to be administered.

Fauci recently said that by April anyone who wants a vaccine should be able to get one. Currently, only those who are older and front-line workers are eligible for the vaccine.

He’s also addressed reopening schools, saying that vaccines aren’t a requirement to reopen, but the stimulus bill needs to be passed so schools have the resources needed to safely open.

The award is not only for his work with the coronavirus but also for his work on HIV and AIDS research

Dr. Anthony S. The prize awards a total of $3 million a year to individuals and organizations for their achievements in three categories: expanding on knowledge of the past, enriching society in the present and promising to improve the future of the world. The theme of the prize varies from year to year. Previous laureates include the cellist Yo-Yo Ma, former Vice President Al Gore, the novelist Margaret Atwood and Dr. Demis Hassabis, an artificial intelligence researcher, neuroscientist and entrepreneur.

Dr. Fauci, 80, won in the “Present” category for his scientific contributions, including his research and his efforts to inform the public about the pandemic. He “leveraged his considerable communication skills to address people gripped by fear and anxiety and worked relentlessly to inform individuals in the United States and elsewhere about the public health measures essential for containing the pandemic’s spread,” the organizers of the Dan David Prize said in a statement.

It added, “He has been widely praised for his courage in speaking truth to power in a highly charged environment,” a reference to Dr. Fauci’s testy relations with former President Donald J. Trump and his supporters, who came to treat him as a villain.

The other Dan David Prizes were shared this year by the health and medicine historians Dr. Alison Bashford, Dr. Katharine Park and Dr. Keith A. Wailoo in the Past category; and Dr. Zelig Eshhar, Dr. Carl June and Dr. Steven Rosenberg, pioneers of an anti-cancer immunotherapy, in the Future category.

Israeli Tel Aviv University receives millions in US funding: Report

ISTANBUL

Israeli Tel Aviv University received $615 million in grants from the US in 2023, according to its Form 990 filing, a document required for tax-exempt organizations.

While it is unclear how much of this funding came from USAID or US taxpayers, reports indicate that $462 million was spent on salaries and employee benefits.

Data from previous years shows the university received $581 million in 2022 and $613 million in 2021. A report by DataRepublican for the same year revealed that $379.3 million of the university’s funding came from US taxpayers.

Similar figures were reported for 2020, $566 million, and 2019, $467 million, though the exact portion of US government aid remains unclear.

For most years, it has been unclear how much of these revenues were direct US government aid.

The funding has sparked criticism, with social media users questioning why US taxpayer dollars are supporting an Israeli institution while American students struggle with significant student loan debt.

The university has also faced scrutiny over its past affiliation with the Abu Kabir Forensic Institute, which has been accused of unethical practices involving Palestinian corpses.

Tel Aviv University has yet to respond to Anadolu’s request for comment.

On Jan. 20, the White House announced a freeze on USAID’s budget, citing concerns over misaligned priorities.

President Donald Trump suspended development assistance for 90 days to evaluate its alignment with his "America First" policy, a move that has sparked concern among global aid organizations.

A White House statement asserted that USAID’s initiatives “do not align with American interests” and, in some cases, “destabilize world peace.”
