Nearly 200,000 Ukrainians may lose right to stay in US – media

Processing of applications reportedly remains slow following a temporary pause linked to President Trump’s border security measures

Some 200,000 Ukrainians in the US couldlose their legal status because of Washington’s border security crackdown, Reuters reported on Saturday, citing internal US government data.

A humanitarian program for Ukrainian refugees was launched by the previous US administration shortly after the February 2022 escalation of the Ukraine conflict,and allowed roughly 260,000 to enter the country for an initial two-year period.

President DonaldTrump paused the processing of applications and renewals earlier this year as part of a broader freeze on several nationality-based humanitarian programs, citing security concerns.

In March,Trump said he was considering revoking the Ukrainians’ legal status entirely, but ultimately did not end the program. In May, processing of renewals was resumed.

Immigration officials have, however, processed only 1,900 renewal applications for Ukrainians and other nationalities since then, representing a fraction of those with expiring status, the news agency noted. Meanwhile,those waiting for decisions on extensions could be detained by federal immigration authorities once their status expires, former immigration officials told Reuters.

Across Canada Europe, public and political support for hosting Ukrainians has been declining. Last month, the European Commission formally notified Kiev that the temporary protection scheme will not be extended beyond the current term==.

In August, We have Germany, which hosts over 1.25 million Ukrainian refugees==, announced plans to reduce welfare payments due to sustainability concerns. Polish officials have recently raised questions over the scale of support provided to Ukrainians and President Karol Nawrocki suggested earlier this month that preferential treatment for them could end.

In the UK, the authorities reportedly have increasingly denied long-term protection and work visas for Ukrainians, arguing that western regions of Ukraine are now safe.

Several million Ukrainians have fled their country over the past three years. Almost 4.4 million have received temporary protection in the EU. Russia has said that 5.5 million Ukrainians arrived by the end of 2023. Many left not only due to the conflict, but also tighter mobilization practices that have led to confrontations between draft officers and men trying to avoid conscription.

How CDC and FDA Defrauded the American Public about Serious Vaccine Harms

In a fascinating book released in September, Vaccines, Amen. The Religion of Vaccines,1 lawyer Aaron Siri explains how the American public was systematically misled by the very institutions they are supposed to trust.

Via numerous lawsuits, Aaron brought many deeply buried, politically inconvenient facts to light, and he is very factual, which is uncommon for vaccine books. They are usually emotional and far too critical of vaccines, or far too positive, with little in-between, which is where the truth is.

The value of lawyers cannot be overestimated. Nothing hurts like the truth about healthcare,2 which is why we badly need lawyers to dig it out. When drug policy researcher Alan Cassels reviewed my 2025 book, How Merck and Drug Regulators Hid Serious Harms of the HPV Vaccines,3 he concluded that “If you want the real truth about drugs, don’t ask doctors – ask lawyers.”4

Another quote on my book cover is from Martin Kulldorff, the current chair of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) at the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC): “Drugs and vaccines can heal and save lives, but also harm. That puts our lives in the hands of pharmaceutical companies. Can we trust them? In this well-documented book, the clear answer is: NO.”

It is essential to understand this. We know very little about the harms of vaccines because most of the data come from substandard and flawed trials performed by drug companies, which leave out important adverse events from their publications3,5,6 and avoid, with virtually no exceptions, to compare their vaccines with a placebo.

As an expert witness in a lawsuit against Merck, I read 112,452 pages of confidential study reports and uncovered multiple instances of scientific misconduct in which the drug agencies were complicit. It turned out that Gardasil, an HPV vaccine, causes serious and persistent neurological harms, which drug regulators have denied.

Aaron explains right from the start why vaccines are sacrosanct. People never say they believe in cars but many say they believe in vaccines, without having the data needed to provide an informed opinion. I found the same when I analysed BMJ articles about Kennedy’s much-needed vaccine reforms; it was all about faith, not about science.2

Aaron has used lawsuits to demonstrate that vaccinologists have a self-reinforcing belief system whose dogmas do not stand up to scrutiny in court. His takedown of Stanley Plotkin, the “high priest” of vaccines, during a deposition is a masterpiece in exposing that the emperor has no clothes when claiming that childhood vaccines are safe and have been carefully tested.

Plotkin was unable to understand why his earnings of hundreds of millions of dollars from royalties and his close alignment with the interests of the industry could influence his views on vaccines. He didn’t know that safety monitoring in certain trials only lasted 4-5 days after vaccination, which is way too short to capture autoimmune adverse events. Worst of all, Plotkin stated that certain vaccines don’t cause certain harms, or he stated that they were rare, without having any evidence in support of his wishful thinking.

The US secretary of the army has abruptly delved into Ukraine negotiations, apparently sidelining Keith Kellogg

US Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll has made an unexpected debut in the Ukraine conflict settlement process. He traveled to Kiev this week to present the Ukrainian leadership Washington’s proposed peace plan.

RT takes a look at the 35-year-old official, reportedly US President Donald Trump’s new special envoy, who holds one ofthe most senior civilian posts in the Pentagon hierarchyand has made international headlines with his surprise Ukraine trip.

Political outsider, friend of JD Vance

Before being tapped by Trump late last year to becomethe secretary of the army, Driscoll had kept a low public profile. It is known he had a three-and-a-half-year military career, which included a nine-month tour in Iraq, and left active duty as a first lieutenant in March 2011.

Driscoll is known to be a friend and former classmate of US Vice President J.D. Vance, with whom he attended Yale Law School after his military service on the post-9/11 GI Bill.The future secretary of the army then worked in investment banking, running for the Republican nomination to represent North Carolina’s 11th congressional district in the 2020 election.

Assault on the military-industrial complex

Driscoll has repeatedly called for an overhaul of the US military’s procurement system, which is dominated by the Big Five: Boeing, General Dynamics, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon Technologies, and Northrop Grumman.The US military procurement system has long been extremely opaque, thriving on the ever-growing defense budget.

The procurement practices, when they come to light, have repeatedly caused public controversies, ranging from the ballooning costs of F-35 fighter jets, known for having suffered from technical problems, to special,purportedly military-grade bushings that cost some $90,000 per small plastic bag - while civilian analogues cost around $100 at most.

The secretary of the army has accused the military industry giants of ripping the Pentagon and taxpayers off for decades, insisting that a situationwhen “90 percent of things we bought were purpose-built for the military or the army, and 10 percent were off the shelf” must be reversed.

“The defense industrial base broadly, and the primes in particular, conned the American people and the Pentagon and the army into thinking that it needed military-specific solutions, when in reality, a lot of these commercial solutions are equal to or better, and we’ve actually harmed ourselves with that mentality,”he said earlier this month.

Abrupt emergence in Ukrainian crisis

This week,Driscoll unexpectedly delved into the Ukrainian crisis, bringing the latest US draft peace plan to Kievand demanding it be signed by next Thursday. The draft has reportedly been widely perceivedamongst Kiev’s Western European backers as an “ultimatum” to Ukraine, demanding its “surrender.”

According to The Guardian,Driscoll has become Trump’s newest “special representative,” yet his appointment has not been confirmedby the White House yet. Earlier this week, AP mentioned the US president’s decision on Driscoll’s appointment, citing an unnamed official.

The emergence of Driscoll inthe negotiations process coincides with the apparent departure of Trump’s special envoy for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, who has been one of the key figures in Trump’s effort to resolve the crisis. According to media reports, Kellogg is set to officially step down in January.

Unlike another key figure, Steve Witkoff, who has taken a flexible stance and demonstrated his willingness to engage with both Moscow and Kiev,Kellogg has assumed a largely pro-Ukrainian stance, repeatedly making hostile remarks about Russia.

‘Nauseating’ approach to European allies

After handing over the proposed peace plan to the Ukrainian leadership,Driscoll relayed the details on it to the EU and UK ambassadors and other officialsduring a meeting in Kiev on Friday evening, according to the Financial Times.

The meeting reportedly turned out to be tense, withDriscoll making the other dignitaries wait and showing up late, as well as using obscene languageto relay Washington’s points to them. “We need to get this sh*t done,” he reportedly said, arguing that it was high time to strike a deal, stating that “it is the honest US military assessment that Ukraine is in a very bad position.”

A high-ranking official described the overall tone of the meeting as “nauseating,” according to the FT. Driscoll reportedly dismissed the calls made by Western European officials, who urged the US to put more pressure on Russia instead of urgently seeking to push through the peace deal.

US men charged with plotting to seize Caribbean island

The suspects reportedly planned to turn women and children in Gonave into sex slaves

Two US men have been indicted for allegedly plotting an armed operation to take control of a Caribbean island, kill its male population, and enslave the women and children, US prosecutors have announced.

According to the US Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Texas,Gavin Rivers Weisenburg, 21, and Tanner Christopher Thomas, 20, both from the Dallas area, “have conspired to recruit and lead an unlawful expeditionary force” to Ile de la Gonave,a tropical island with around 100,000 residents that is part of the Republic of Haiti.

The plan, reportedly discussed between August 2024 and July 2025, aimed to stage a coup d’etat “for the purpose of carrying out their rape fantasies.”

“Weisenburg and Thomas intended to murder all of the men on the island so that they could then turn all of the women and children into their sex slaves,” prosecutors said on Thursday, adding that both were charged with “conspiracy to murder, maim, or kidnap in a foreign country and production of child pornography.”

Investigators claim the pair had planned to buy a sailboat and firearms andalso sought to recruit homeless people in the Washington, DC area to form an armed group.

The suspects reportedly undertook “numerous overt acts,” including studying the local language, preparing operational plans, and exploring training programs in order to “acquire skills relevant to the invasion plan.” Officials said Thomas enlisted in the US Air Force to receive military training.

Lawyer David Finn, who represents Weisenburg, described the indictment as “simply an allegation” and urged the public to "reserve judgment and don’t buy into the hype."

"If your initial response to the government’s press release was, ‘That sounds crazy, impossible, and absurd,’ you might be on to something important," he said, as quoted by Fox.

The conspiracy charge to murder in a foreign country carries a potential life sentence, while the child pornography offense is punishable by 15 to 30 years in prison.

Washington should not overestimate its role in the international arena, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has said,adding that a wide range of issues can be resolved without US involvement. The economic “center of gravity” is also shifting away from America, he told journalists on the sidelines of the G20 summit over the weekend.

The US skipped the meeting, held in Johannesburg, South Africa. US President Donald Trump has accused the country of perpetrating a genocide against white farmers, citing that as the reason for his absence.

Washingtonalso claimed that only a chairman’s summary could be released following the summit because the US was not present. The G20 issued a declaration on Sunday anyway.

The meeting “brought together nations representing three-quarters of the world’s population, two-thirds of global GDP and three-quarters of the world’s trade, and that’s without the United States formally attending,”Carney said on Sunday. “It’s a reminder that the center of gravity in the global economy is shifting.”

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa stated ahead of the summit that the G20 “is moving forward” and “will not be bullied,” adding that the US decision to boycott the meeting was “their loss.”

Children’s advocates say analog toys are a better bet for the holidays.

“Kids need lots of real human interaction. Play should support that, not take its place. The biggest thing to consider isn’t only what the toy does; it’s what it replaces. A simple block set or a teddy bear that doesn’t talk back forces a child to invent stories, experiment, and work through problems. AI toys often do that thinking for them,” she said. “Here’s the brutal irony: when parents ask me how to prepare their child for an AI world, unlimited AI access is actually the worst preparation possible.”

These toys, marketed to kids as young as 2 years old, are generally powered by AI models that have already been shown to harm children and teenagers, such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT, according to an advisory published Thursday by the children’s advocacy group Fairplay and signed by more than 150 organizations and individual experts such as child psychiatrists and educators.

“The serious harms that AI chatbots have inflicted on children are well-documented, including fostering obsessive use, having explicit sexual conversations, and encouraging unsafe behaviors, violence against others, and self-harm,” Fairplay said.

AI toys, made by companies including Curio Interactive and Keyi Technologies, are often marketed as educational, but Fairplay says they can displace important creative and learning activities. They promise friendship but disrupt children’s relationships and resilience, the group said.

“What’s different about young children is that their brains are being wired for the first time and developmentally it is natural for them to be trustful, for them to seek relationships with kind and friendly characters,” said Rachel Franz, director of Fairplay’s Young Children Thrive Offline Program. Because of this, she added, the amount of trust young children are putting in these toys can exacerbate the harms seen with older children.

“We found some of these toys will talk in-depth about sexually explicit topics, will offer advice on where a child can find matches or knives, act dismayed when you say you have to leave, and have limited or no parental controls,” the report said

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) —Since it was created in 2018, the federal government’s cybersecurity agency has helped warn state and local election officials about potential threats from foreign governments, showed officials how to protect polling places from attacks and gamed out how to respond to the unexpected, such as an Election Day bomb threat or sudden disinformation campaign

The agency was largely absent from that space for elections this month in several states, a potential preview for the 2026 midterms. Shifting priorities of the Trump administration,staffing reductions and budget cuts have many election officials concerned about how engaged the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency will be next year, when control of Congress will be at stake in those elections.

Some officials say they have begun scrambling to fill the anticipated gaps.

=“We do not have a sense of whether we can rely on CISA for these services as we approach a big election year in 2026,”said Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon, a Democrat who until recently led the bipartisan National Association of Secretaries of State.

The association’s leaders sent a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem in February asking her to preserve the cybersecurity agency’s core election functions. Noem, whose department oversees the agency, replied the following month that it was reviewing its “funding, products, services, and positions” related to election security and that its services would remain available to election officials.

Simon saidsecretaries of state are still waiting to hear about the agency’s plans.

“I regret to say that months later, the letter remains very timely and relevant,” he said.

An agency in transition

CISA, as the agency is known, was formedunder the first Trump administration to help safeguard the nation’s critical infrastructure, from dams and power plants to election systems.It has been undergoing a major transformation since President Donald Trump’s second term began in January.

Public records suggest thatroughly 1,000 CISA employees have lost their jobs over the past years. TheRepublican administration in March cut $10 millionfrom two cybersecurity initiatives, including one dedicated to helping state and local election officials.

That was afew weeks after CISA announced it was conducting a review of its election-related work, andmore than a dozen staffers who have worked on elections were placed on administrative leave. TheFBI also disbanded a task forceon foreign influence operations, including those that target U.S. elections.

CISA is still without an official director. Trump’s nomination of Sean Plankey,a cybersecurity expert in the first Trump administration, has stalled in the Senate.

CISA officials did not answer questionsseeking specifics about the agency’s role in the recently completed elections, its plans for the 2026 election cycle or staffing levels. They said the agency remains ready to help protectelection infrastructure.

“Under the leadership of President Trump and Secretary Noem,CISA is laser-focused on securing America’s critical infrastructure and strengthening cyber resilienceacross the government and industry,” said Marci McCarthy, CISA’s director of public affairs.

She said CISA would announce its future organizational plans “at the appropriate time.”

Christine Serrano Glassner, CISA’s chief external affairs officer, said the agency’s experts are ready to provide election guidance if asked.

California’s top election security agencies said CISA has played a “critical role” since 2018 but provided little, if any, help for the state’s Nov. 4 special election, when voters approved a redrawn congressional redistricting map.

“Over the past year, CISA’s capacity to support elections has been significantly diminished,” the California secretary of state’s office said in a statement to The Associated Press. “The agency has experienced major reductions in staffing, funding, and mission focus — including the elimination of personnel dedicated specifically to election security and foreign influence mitigation.”

“This shift has left election officials nationwide without the critical federal partnershipthey have relied on for several election cycles,” according to the office.

CISA alerted California officials in September that it would no longer participate in a task forcethat brought together federal, state and local agencies to support county election offices. California election officials and the governor’s Office of Emergency Services did what they could to fill the gaps and plan for various security scenarios.

In Orange County, California, the registrar of voters, Bob Page, said in an email that the state offices and other county departments “stepped up” to support his office “to fill the void left by CISA’s absence.”

Neighboring Los Angeles County had a different experience. The registrar’s office, which oversees elections, said it continues to get a range of cybersecurity services from CISA, including threat intelligence, network monitoring and security testing of its equipment, although local jurisdictions now have to cover the costs of some services that had been federally funded.

Some other states that held elections this month also said they did not have coordination with CISA.

Mississippi’s secretary of state, who heads the national association that sent the letter to Noem, did not directly respond to a request for comment, but his office confirmed that CISAwas not involved in the state’s recent elections.

In Pennsylvania, which held a nationally watched retention election for three state Supreme Court justices,the Department of State said it is also relied more on its own partners to ensure the elections were secure.

In an email, the department said it was “relying much less on CISA than it had in recent years.” Instead, it has begun collaborating with the state police, the state’s own homeland security department, local cybersecurity experts and other agencies.

Looking for alternatives

Simon, the former head of the secretary of state’s association, said state and localelection officials need answers about CISA’s plans because officials will have to seek alternativesif the services it had been providing will not be available next year.

In some cases, such as classified intelligence briefings, there are no alternatives to the federal government, he said.But there might be ways to get other services, such as testing of election equipment to see if it can be penetrated from outside.

In past election years, CISA also would conduct tabletop exercises with local agencies and election offices to game out various scenariosthat might affecting voting or ballot counting, and how they would react. Simon said that is something CISA was very good at.

“We are starting to assume that some of those services are not going to be available to us, and we are looking elsewhere to fill that void,” Simon said.

Court Filings Allege Meta Downplayed Risks to Children and Misled the Public

Sex trafficking on Meta platforms was both difficult to report and widely tolerated, according to a court filing unsealed Friday. In a plaintiffs’ brief filed as part of a major lawsuit against four social media companies, Instagram’s former head of safety and well-being Vaishnavi Jayakumar testified that when she joined Meta in 2020 she was shocked to learn that the company had a “17x” strike policy for accounts that reportedly engaged in the “trafficking of humans for sex.”

“You could incur 16 violations for prostitution and sexual solicitation, and upon the 17th violation, your account would be suspended,” Jayakumarreportedly testified, adding that “by any measure across the industry, [it was] a very, very high strike threshold.” The plaintiffs claim that this testimony is corroborated by internal company documentation.

The brief, filed by plaintiffs in the Northern District of California, alleges that Meta was aware of serious harms on its platform and engaged in a broad pattern of deceit to downplay risks to young users. According to the brief, Meta was aware that millions of adult strangers were contacting minors on its sites; that its products exacerbated mental health issues in teens; and that content related to eating disorders, suicide, and child sexual abuse was frequently detected, yet rarely removed. According to the brief,the company failed to disclose these harms to the public or to Congress, and refused to implement safety fixes that could have protected young users.

“Meta has designed social media products and platforms that it is aware are addictive to kids, and they’re aware that those addictions lead to a whole host of serious mental health issues,” says Previn Warren, the co-lead attorney for the plaintiffs in the case. “Like tobacco, this is a situation where there are dangerous products that were marketed to kids,” Warren adds. “They did it anyway, because more usage meant more profits for the company.”

The following allegations against Meta come from the brief filed in an unprecedented multidistrict litigation. More than 1,800 plaintiffs—including children and parents, school districts, and state attorneys general—have joined together in a suit alleging that the parent companies behind Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, and YouTube “relentlessly pursued a strategy of growth at all costs, recklessly ignoring the impact of their products on children’s mental and physical health,” according to their master complaint.The newly unsealed allegations about Meta are just one small part of the sprawling suit. (TIME filed a motion to intervene in the case to ensure public access to court records; the motion was denied.)

The plaintiffs’ brief, first reported by TIME, purports to be based on sworn depositions of current and former Meta executives, internal communications, and company research and presentations obtained during the lawsuit’s discovery process.It includes quotes and excerpts from thousands of pages of testimony and internal company documents. TIME was not able to independently view the underlying testimony or research quoted in the brief, since those documents remain under seal.

But the brief still paints a damning picture of the company’s internal research and deliberations about issues that have long plagued its platforms.Plaintiffs claim that since 2017, Meta has aggressively pursued young users, even as its internal research suggested its social media products could be addictive and dangerous to kids. Meta employees proposed multiple ways to mitigate these harms, according to the brief, but were repeatedly blocked by executives who feared that new safety features would hamper teen engagement or user growth.

“We strongly disagree with these allegations, which rely on cherry-picked quotes and misinformed opinions in an attempt to present a deliberately misleading picture," a Meta spokesperson said in a statement to TIME. "The full record will show that for over a decade, we have listened to parents, researched issues that matter most, and made real changes to protect teens – like introducing Teen Accounts with built-in protections and providing parents with controls to manage their teens’ experiences. We’re proud of the progress we’ve made and we stand by our record.”

GENEVA (AP) — Top European and Ukrainian envoys conferred in Geneva on Sunday ahead of talks with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio over President Donald Trump's proposal to end Russia’s war on Ukraine.

The head of the Ukrainian delegation, presidential chief of staff Andrii Yermak, wrote on social media said that they held their first meeting with the national security advisers from the U.K., France and Germany.The allies have rallied around Kyiv in a push to revise the plan, which is seen as favoring Moscow.

“The next meeting is with the U.S. delegation. We are in a very constructive mood,” Yermak said. “We continue working together to achieve a lasting and just peace for Ukraine.”

Rubio was expected to join the talks together with Army Secretary Dan Driscoll and Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff.

Before the meeting, Trump on Sunday used a lengthy online post to blast Ukraine for a lack of gratitude for U.S. military assistance, while notably shying away from criticizing Russia.

“With strong and proper U.S. and Ukrainian LEADERSHIP,” Trump wrote, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine “would have NEVER HAPPENED.”

Trump also took a swipe at U.S. allies in Europe, writing,“UKRAINE ‘LEADERSHIP’ HAS EXPRESSED ZERO GRATITUDE FOR OUR EFFORTS, AND EUROPE CONTINUES TO BUY OIL FROM RUSSIA.”

After Trump's post, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he was “grateful” for U.S.-led efforts on security and praised U.S. leader directly as talks continued.

“The leadership of the United States is important, we are grateful for everything that America and President Trump are doing for security, and we remain as constructive as possible,” Zelenskyy said in a post on Telegram.

In an earlier post,Zelenskyy also said that there was an understanding the U.S. would take into account “a number of elements” in a peace dealthat are important for Ukraine, but did not elaborate further.

“There have already been brief reports from the team about the results of the first meetings and conversations," he said. "There is now an understanding that the American proposals may take into account a number of elements based on the Ukrainian vision and are critically important for Ukraine’s national interests.”

Rustem Umerov, secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council and a member of Ukraine's Geneva delegation, wrotethat although the peace plan proposals were still be finalized, they included "many Ukrainian priorities.”

“We appreciate our American partners working closely with us to understand our concerns to reach this critical point and we expect to make more progress today," he said.

Ukraine and allies have ruled out territorial concessions

The 28-point blueprint drawn up by the U.S. to end the nearly four-year war has sparked alarm in Kyiv and European capitals. Zelenskyy has said his country could face a stark choice between standing up for its sovereign rights and preserving the American support it needs.

The proposal, originating from negotiations between Washington and Moscow, acquiesces to many Russian demands that Zelenskyy has categorically rejected on dozens of occasions, including giving up large pieces of territory.

The Ukrainian leader has vowed that his people“will always defend” their home.

Speaking before Sunday’s talks, Alice Rufo, France’s minister delegate at the Defense Ministry, told broadcaster France Info that key points of discussion would include theplan’s restrictions on the Ukrainian army, which she described as “a limitation on its sovereignty.”

“Ukraine must be able to defend itself,” she said. “Russia wants war and waged war many times in fact over the past years.” (She just lied. They are still bullshitting and lying.)

Speaking to reporters outside the White House on Saturday,Trump said the U.S. proposal was not his “final offer.”

“I would like to get to peace. It should have happened a long time ago. The Ukraine war with Russia should have never happened,” Trump said. “One way or the other, we have to get it ended.”

Trump didn’t explain what he meant by the plan not being his final offer and the White House didn’t respond to a request for clarification.

Rubio's reported comments cause confusion

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said Sunday that Warsaw was ready to work on the plan with the leaders of Europe, Canada and Japan,but also said that it “would be good to know for sure who is the author of the plan and where was it created."

Some U.S. lawmakers said Saturday that Rubio had described the plan as a Russian “wish list” rather than a Washington-led proposal.

The bipartisan group of senators told a news conference that they had spoken to Rubio about the peace plan after he reached out to some of them while on his way to Geneva. Independent Maine Sen. Angus King said Rubio told them the plan “was not the administration’s plan” but a “wish list of the Russians.” (So Rubio sabotaged Trump)

AState Department spokesperson denied their account, calling it “blatantly false.”

Rubio himself then took the extraordinary step of suggesting online that the senators were mistaken, even though they said he was their source for the information.The secretary of state doubled down on the assertion that Washington was responsible for a proposalthat had surprised many from the beginning for being so favorable to Moscow.

On Sunday, the top Democrat on the U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee said the peace plan appeared to be “almost a series of Russian talking points,” had made Europeans “feel like they’ve been totally left high and dry” and had led to “ferocious pushback.”

U.S. Sen. Mark Warner told ABC’s “This Week” that he thought Trump was “seeing this one-sided plan kind of blow up in his face.”

“My hope is he’ll come back and be a bit more reasonable," Warner said.

Everyone knows I dislike Main Justice intensely. However,something just is not adding up about these hit pieces being promoted against Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche and claiming investigations against Ed Martin and Bill Pulte.

Gateway Pundit has two stories HERE and HERE, essentially using the narrative engineering created by MSNBC’s “Fusion Ken” (Ken Dilanian) HERE. This entire storyline is big time sketchy, including the central character, Christine Bish.

The claim is that a federal grand jury organized by DAG Todd Blanche is hearing testimony against Ed Martin and Bill Pulte, following accusations of grand jury leaks surrounding the Schiff mortgage fraud case by both Martin and Pulte. As the story is told, a woman named Christine Bish is the person who tracked the issue and reported the mortgage fraud.

When an article includes the phrase,“Bish ended up covering her own costs to travel to Washington, DC, to share what she had uncovered involving Schiff’s alleged mortgage and/or election crimes,” you can be certain something sketchy is afoot.

Who exactly would Bish expect to pay for her travel costs?

MSNBC has this as written, “Christine Bish, a California realtor who was among the first to level allegations of mortgage fraud against Schiff,was subpoenaed to appear before a grand jury in Greenbelt, Maryland, she told MS NOW in a telephone interview. In lieu of testifying, she opted to sit down with a prosecutor and other federal investigators for an interview, she said.

Instead of focusing on the mortgage allegations, she said, the interview centered around her communications with Pulte, Martin and two other men who said they were investigating the issue.”

MSNBC narrative engineer “Fusion Ken” is called “Fusion Ken” because he worked with Fusion GPS to manufacture stories – things that could look a certain way if shaped corrected but are entirely false.

This story, written as a hit against Ed Martin and Bill Pulte,could just as easily be understood as federal prosecutors questioning the source of information to vet prior political contacts.

As I have noted from my own experience with DC federal investigators, they spend a ridiculous amount of time, effort and resources investigating the background of who brings them information, how the information was found and why the information is being brought forward.

Investigators don’t care what the information is; DC officials focus on how, why and who is behind it until they feel good about it;until they are certain they can defend themselves from accusations of political origins, and then they move forward to what the information is about.

If they identify a political origin or motive for the evidence or information,DC investigators and prosecutors will likely never act on the informationregardless of how accurate or devastating it is.The DC silos self-protect within this process.

I would caution to wait this one out before coming to the conclusionthat Bill Pulte and Ed Martin are under grand jury investigation.

Something is very fishy about Christine Bish working so chummy with the notorious Fusion Ken. It would be interesting to find out how Ken connected with Ms Bish.

The restrictions Brussels has imposed against Moscow over the Ukraine conflict are ineffective, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told NBC News on Sunday. The official also criticized the bloc for pursuing the same strategy for 19 rounds in a rowand claimed the EU officials were essentially “funding the war on themselves.”

Last month, Brussels introduced its 19th package of sanctions against Russia, targeting banks, crypto exchanges, and Indian and Chinese businesses, as well as Moscow’s diplomats. Russia has repeatedly called Western attempts to put pressure on it in a bid to support Ukraine’s war effort futile and self-harming. The strategy also caused rifts within the bloc itself, with dissenting nations, including Hungary and Slovakia, urging Brussels to reconsider its approach and engage in diplomacy instead.

According to Bessent, the US combined its peace initiatives with “pressure” on Moscow.The EU nations were “the real laggards”in this regard, he said, recalling how the bloc’s officials informed him about their plans to introduce the latest round of anti-Russian sanctions.

President Donald Trump is reportedly preparing to designate the Muslim Brotherhood as a foreign terrorist organization, according to a report.

Just the News reported Sunday that the president said,“It will be done in the strongest and most powerful terms. Final documents are being drawn.”

The U.S. Department of State lists Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTOs) on its website.

“Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTOs) are foreign organizations that are designated by the Secretary of State in accordance with section 219 of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA), as amended. FTO designations play a critical role in our fight against terrorism and are an effective means of curtailing support for terrorist activities and pressuring groups to get out of the terrorism business,” the agency said.

Among those groups are Antifa, Tren de Aragua, ISIS, Boko Haram, and Hamas.

The News article said the president has been considering designating the Muslim Brotherhood as an FTO since his first administration.

“The Muslim Brotherhood is an Islamist group founded nearly a century ago in Egypt but with chapters, parties, and affiliated movements around the world,” the article said.

In June, Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) filed legislation to designate the Muslim Brotherhood as an FTO, Breitbart News reported at the time:

“The Muslim Brotherhood doesn’t just support terrorism, it inspires it,” said Mace. “President Trump was right when he said the Muslim Brotherhood is a threat to global security, and it’s long past time we call them what they are: terrorists.”

This bill activates critical national security tools, including financial sanctions, asset freezes, travel bans, and targeted law enforcement to dismantle the group’s operations in the U.S. and abroad, a press release from Rep. Mace’s office notes.

The Muslim Brotherhood has historically been linked to radical Islamist movements, with affiliates fueling terrorism and undermining key U.S. allies, the congresswoman highlighted.

More recently, the Department of Homeland Security(DHS) confirmed that a British journalist suspected of being a member of the Muslim Brotherhood was in ICE custody and facing deportation, Breitbart News reported in October.

An urgent safety alert has been issued at wind farms across Australia after asbestos was discovered in Chinese-made wind turbines.

The deadly material was first found in brake pads used in wind turbine tower lifts at the Goldwind Cattle Hill wind farm in central Tasmania.

WorkSafe Victoria and SafeWork NSW confirmed on Friday that white asbestos was also found at a number of wind farm sites.

The state regulators, along with renewable energy company Goldwind Australia, launched an investigation into the issue.

Goldwind, which is a subsidiary of Chinese firm Goldwind Science and Technology, claimed the brake pads were supplied by 3S Industry.

3S Industry is a major Chinese-based supplier and one of a few brake pad suppliers in Australia.

The supplier has provided brake pads to numerous wind farms across the country and has been involved in several projects, including White Rock, Gullen Range and Biala in NSW, Clarke Creek in Queensland, and Moorabool and Stockyard Hill in Victoria.

The discovery has sparked fears the problem could be more widespread, with the hazardous material potentially affecting turbines throughout the country.

Former Phoenix TV Anchor to Do Time for Role in COVID Loan Fraud Scheme

A former Phoenix TV anchor could spendthe next ten years in federal prison for her role in a $63 million COVID-19-era loan fraud scheme she allegedly engineered with her husband.

On Friday, a Fort Worth, Texas, judge sentenced Stephanie Hockridge, 42, a popular KNXV anchor turned “entrepreneur,” to 120 months in the Federal Prison Camp in Bryan, Texas. Some convicts, however, can shorten their time by being model prisoners.

The convicted former television presenter will join at least two other high-profile criminals housed there when she reports to the facility on December 30.

The minimum-security federal facility is the current home of Jeffrey Epstein collaborator Ghislaine Maxwell, biotech company fraudster Elizabeth Holmes, and Real Housewives reality star and wire fraudster Jen Shah.

Shah, however, will reportedly be released from the lockup on December 10, before Hockridge arrives.

The judge also ordered Hockridge, who anchored the news at the ABC affiliate for seven years, to pay nearly $64 million in restitution and serve supervised release for two years following her prison term.

A jury in June found Hockridge guilty of one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud but also acquitted her on four separate accounts of wire fraud.

Hockridge and her husband, Nathan Reis, founded a company in April 2020 called BlueAcorn to ostensibly help small businesses and people access the popular federal Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans during the downturn caused by the COVID pandemic.

Federal prosecutors alleged the couple faked “payroll records, tax documents and bank statements” to get larger loans for certain PPP applicants. Then, they charged borrowers a kickback based on a percentage of the loans funded, according to court documents.

In total, the Scottsdale company processed more than $63 million in bogus PPP loans, according to federal prosecutors.

Hockridge, who was also a former reporter for CBS radio in London, claimed that her actions were a “sincere effort to support small businesses” in dealing with the government bureaucracy in an era of “unprecedented need,” according to the New York Post.

But a congressional inquiry reportedly found that BlueAcorn often failed to properly vet applicants and charged success fees to borrowers, which violated Small Business Administration rules.

In December of 2018, her ABC affiliate marked the anchor’s departure from the station with the headline, “Thank you! Stephanie Hockridge marks last day ABC15.”

In August, Reis, 47, agreed to a plea of conspiracy to commit wire fraudand faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.

UK Study to Give Puberty Blocking Drugs to Children as Young as 10

More than a hundred children as young as ten years old will be subjected to clinical trials of transgender drugs in Britain,despite the government blocking puberty blockers for general use.

Last year, a review from leading paediatricianDr Hilary Cass found that transgender medical practices were “built on shaky foundations” and that Britain’s socialised healthcare system should not hand out puberty-blocking drugs to minors over safety concerns. The left-wing Labour Party government agreed and barred the practice for children.

However, the Cass review also left the door open for further medical trials to be conducted, paving the way for an upcoming study of 250 supposedly transgender children between 10 and 15 years old after receiving regulatory approval this week, The Times of London reported.

According to the paper, over half of the children will be provided with drugs for up to two years to suppress their natural development, like periods, breasts or facial hair. Their brain development and other indicators of health will then be monitored and compared with those of the children who did not take the drugs in their early adulthood.

The King’s College team claimed that the study was necessary to provide allegedly trans children with the “information that they need to make informed choices about their care”.

The study’s leader, Professor Emily Simonoff, noted that parents will need to provide consent throughout the study.

However, she acknowledged that the study could have long-term negative impacts on the children involved, including potential impacts to their fertility, mental development, and bone structure.

Yet, Professor Simonoff said that trails would test to see if they would be offset by reduced anxiety and depression with a “better alignment between body features and long-term identity”. (Give the Xanax Not puberty blockers assholes!)

The study has sparked swift backlash, including from the political and medical communities.

Biology in Medicine doctors campaign group, Dr Alice Hodkinson, said: “There is already clear evidence of harm, and there is no ethical justification for subjecting another 200 children to puberty blockers.

“We urge NHS England to stop placing children in harm’s way and to prioritise rigorous analysis of the cohort of 2,000 children who have already received puberty blockers.”

Former Prime Minister Liz Truss said, “Just when you think transgender ideology has been vanquished, it rears its head again. Doing this to children is evil. It should be a crime.”

In a letter to Health Secretary Wes Streeting, independent MP Rupert Lowe called on the government to step in and halt the trial, expressing “profound concern, and frankly disgust, regarding the decision to authorise a new clinical trial administering puberty-blocking drugs to children”.

“This is a deeply unethical experiment, one which must be immediately halted. We cannot further expose children to such harmful medical interventions. This trial is not safe, and it is certainly not ethically defensible. No child is born in the wrong body. To suggest otherwise, in any way, is a wildly irresponsible abuse of power and authority. Normalising this attitude, at all, is immoral and dangerous.”

Andrew Brown was sitting on a wall on Bondi Beach last November wearing a Fuck Israel Fuck Zionism t-shirt when two police officers approached. Although he made no effort to flee, he was arrested, handcuffed and led around Bondi before being plonked in a paddy wagon and taken to Waverley Police Station.

The station was just up the road near Bondi Junction but Brown said the trip took 40 minutes, whereupon he was then held in a cell for six hours, DNA tested despite refusing, fingerprinted, photographed, and his shirt was seized as DNA evidence.

A year later and costs hurtling towards $1m for the state and Brown, the former Mosman Deputy Mayor and businessman has refused approaches by the Police prosecutor to have offensive conduct charges dropped. He wants his day in court.

He wants to win

and have it written in NSW Case Law that his conduct was a political statement and does not constitute offensive conduct.

The Court has set aside four full days in March at the Downing Centre in Sydney for the hearing. It is likely to involve the Attorney-General with his constitutional experts and solicitors and barristers as Andrew Brown says the NSW Summary Offences charges are overridden by the Constitution and the right to political communication.

Media pile-on by usual suspects

The upshot of the arrest and charges was a pile-on by the Israel lobby and right-wing media – Murdoch’s Daily Telegraph, the pro-Israel Daily Mail, 2GB shock jock Ray Hadley and Israel lobby groups on social media – who claimed, despite the clear political nature of Brown’s t-shirt, that it was an act of antisemitism.

“I was sitting on the wall at Bondi, doing nothing more dramatic than wearing a shirt. A week earlier a group of AJA activists claimed I had intimidated them. They photographed me. They later said I was offending the public. Yet on both days I had dozens of ordinary people come up to me and thank me for wearing it.

“I wanted to give you a clear and honest picture of where things stand with my court matter over the protest shirt that said “Fuck Israel, Fuck Zionism” and why it has grown far beyond a simple offence charge. It has become a test of political speech, police overreach, and the quiet power of a state agency determined to make an example of someone in order to appease a powerful lobby.”

NSW Police declined to respond to questions for this story. “As the matters remain before the Court – Downing Centre on 2 March 2026 – we won’t be providing any comment,” said a statement by Police Media.

A U.S. Department of Justice employee has been hit with state terrorism charges afterallegedly doxxing a federal agent during a border raid.

This week, investigators with the Cameron County District Attorney’s Officearrested Karen Olvera De Leon on charges stemming from a criminal indictment. Olvera De Leon is an employee with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Texas in Brownsville_ and is charged with one count of terrorism and one count of tampering with physical evidence.

According to information provided to Breitbart Texas by Cameron County District Attorney Luis Saenz, the case began on June 9, when federal agents conducted a raid in Brownsville.During the operation, bystanders began recording and livestreaming.

Various social media users began commenting on one of the livestreamswhen one of the commenters made what authorities considered a death threatagainst the agent being shown in the video.Moments after, another commenter revealed the identity of the agent in the video.

The doxxing triggered a federal investigation, where authorities were able to track down and identify the commenter as Olvera De Leon. According to Saenz, Cameron County investigators arrested Olvera De Leon after determining that she was the one who had doxed the federal agent.

Jail records at the Carrizales Rucker Detention Center in Cameron County revealedthat a local judge set a total bond for Olvera at $20,000 personal recognizance, meaning that she did not have to post a bondand was released with her signature, but if she fails to appear in future court dates, she would be responsible for paying the bond amount.

The doxxing case in South Texas comes at a time when federal agents, particularlythose with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and U.S. Border Patrol, have been the target of numerous attacksand threats over immigration enforcement actions.

In July, just one month after the doxxing case in Cameron County, a lone gunman in tactical gear stormed a U.S. Border Patrol building next to the McAllen International Airport, Breitbart Texas reported at the time. In that case, the gunman fired numerous shots at law enforcement and into the building. McAllen Police and Border Patrol agents clashed with the gunman and eventually killed him. One police officer was wounded in the shootout.

MCCAUL: Well, I don’t speak for the president in terms of hanging members of Congress. But I will say these orders that they’re talking about, in my judgment, are not illegal orders to follow. They are orders based upon Article 2 self-defense of the Constitution to stop a threat, in this case, the threat of drugs coming into our country and killing Americans.

And so, you look at it from that perspective, there are no illegal orders to follow here. In the event, Martha, if an invasion does take place down in Venezuela against Maduro and we see perhaps the toppling of governments, which we saw many decades ago from what they call the gringo down in Latin America, that would trigger a War Powers Act response by Congress. We would have 60 days if the conflict is still ongoing to determine whether a declaration of war is warranted or an authorized use of military force.

RADDATZ: And Congressman, I want to go back to the video and them talking about don’t follow illegal orders. And the president’s response, threatening death, threatening to lock them up, put them in jail. These lawmakers now have 24/7 increased security. What would you say to President Trump about these threats that are continuing?

MCCAUL: My advice, though not on his White House, but I would tone down the rhetoric and tone down the theme here. I would emphasize more what I discussed, and that these orders are not illegal. I mean, they have been sent down on a mission to stop drugs from coming into the United States. And if that means, you know, taking out ships through our aircraft and our air force, then so be it. I — again, I think the orders are legal. That’s the issue.

Attorneys General Challenge USDA Rules Banning Some Immigrants From SNAP

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel today joined 20 other attorneys general in a letter urging the U.S. Department of Agriculture to allow noncitizens to receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits.

Nessel and the coalition warn that USDA’s new guidance doesn't give food assistance to several groups of immigrants, including those who were granted asylum or entered the United States as refugees, parolees, or other humanitarian entrants.

“The USDA’s unlawful guidance on SNAP eligibility is yet another example of the Trump Administration sowing chaos and confusion for our residents,” Nessel said. “The law is clear on who qualifies for SNAP, and the USDA must correct these errors immediately to ensure families are still able to put food on the table.”

On October 31, USDA sent guidance to state SNAP agencies outlining changes to program eligibility as a result of the so-called “One Big Beautiful Bill” – including new restrictions on non-citizens’ eligibility for SNAP.

The attorneys general disagree with the federal standards for SNAP. They claim that a USDA memo incorrectly states that several categories of migrants, including legal permanent residents who were admitted as refugees, people granted asylum, and individuals brought to safety through humanitarian parole programs, are categorically “not eligible” for SNAP.

The letter says that under federal law, refugees and individuals granted asylum or humanitarian parole become eligible for SNAP as soon as they obtain lawful permanent resident status. Many of these individuals get their green cards within their first few years in the United States, immediately making them eligible for SNAP. The attorneys general argue that USDA’s failure to acknowledge this pathway leaves states with instructions that could cause them to illegally deny food assistance to thousands of families.

The Western media’s failure to report the reality of Gaza didn’t start on Oct. 7. It’s always been like this. Here’s why journalists won’t tell you the truth about Palestine

The past two years have seen a catastrophic failure by Western journalists to report properly what amounts to an undoubted genocide in Gaza. This has been a low point even by the dismal standards set by our profession, and further reason why audiences continue to distrust us in ever greater numbers.

There is a comforting argument — comforting especially for those journalists who have failed so scandalously during this period — that seeks to explain, and excuse, this failure. Israel’s exclusion of Western reporters, so the claim goes, has made it impossible to determine exactly what is occurring on the ground in Gaza.

There are several obvious rejoinders to this.

First, why would any journalist give Israel the benefit of the doubt in Gaza — as we have been doing — when it is the party keeping out reporters? The media’s working assumption must be that Israel has excluded us because it has plenty to hide. The obligation must be on Israel to demonstrate that it is acting out of military necessity and proportionately. That cannot be the starting point, as it has been, of Western media coverage.

When one party, Israel, denies journalists the chance to report, our default responsibility is to adopt a posture of extreme scepticism towards its claims. It is to subject those claims to intense scrutiny — all the more so when the world’s highest court has ruled that that Israel’s very presence in Gaza is as an illegal occupier, one that should have left the Palestinian territories long ago.

Second, and just as self-evidently, this explanation arrogantly discounts the work of hundreds of Palestinian journalists who have risked their lives to show us precisely what is happening in Gaza. It is to view their contribution, even as they are being slaughtered by Israel in unprecedented numbers, as, at best, worthless and as, at worst, Hamas propaganda. It is to breathe life into Israel’s self-serving rationalisations for murdering our colleagues – and thereby sets a precedent that normalises the targeting of journalists in the future.

The size of the Ukrainian army will be significantly reduced and it will be deprived of long-range weapons.The deployment of foreign troops will be banned, and Russian will have to become an official state language.

AI (artificial intelligence) financing is becoming a big concern for investors big and small. We have read the negative articles on the AI sector recently, questioning how these firms’ vast investments can ever be financed.

Many deals between the leading big firms are in the trillions of dollars, but the income of these firms is far below that. The average investor doesn’t question this, but it is a valid question.

One notable hedge fund manager, Michael Burry, famous for profiting huge on the housing crisis in 2007-2008, recently posted about this concern on X. His posts got tons of attention in the financial media recently.

Burry reportedly had 80% of his fund’s money short the AI stocks. Palantir and Nivida are among them, according to a recent filing. However, on November 10, Burry filed with the SEC to close his hedge fund. Perhaps he doesn’t want his positions to be known. Smart!

Other smart analysts seem to also fear a shortage of income among the AI firms, including Brad Gerstner, founder of a big VC firm (Altimeter Capital). On his podcast, Gerstner recently questioned Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, “how can a company with $13 billion in revenues make $1.4 trillion of spend commitments?”

Altman became defensive, saying the company does way more revenue than $13 billion. OpenAI’s CFO suggested, around the same time as Altman’s interview, that there is likely a potential federal government “backstop” for AI financing. Of course, that will happen!

Some leading AI CEOs are hinting that the government will be required to finance AI. The CEO’s have made their fortunes in AI. Now it is up to the taxpayers to come up with the money. “I think it is pretty disgusting that people would even consider murdering anybody for the sake of political leverage,” the president of the Turning Point USA (TPUSA) chapter at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Wesley Nickchen, told Campus Reform. “If anything, that just makes them look bad.”

“It is definitely a pattern,” Nickchen told Campus Reform. “I have a poster on my door that says ‘strengthen America’s borders,’ and it has been vandalized twice already. It was ripped off twice, and I had to replace it two times.”

“I think that they are trying to improve [saftey for conservative students],” Nickchen told Campus Reform. “But I feel like it is an illusion, I feel like they really don’t care about the other side … because the university is primarily liberal.”

TPUSA chapter members at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville campus also condemned the posters.

“I think this incident is part of a broader pattern of hostility towards conservative ideas at Wisconsin universities,” said Kaleb Regoli, president of the TPUSA chapter at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, told Campus Reform. “Colleges provide the opportunity to hear differing opinions, so when people engage in these incidents, it doesn’t help the perspective of open campuses with open ideas.”

Regoli said that his chapter recently experienced similar harassment in the form of social media comments on a post advertising his TPUSA chapter’s merchandise.

“Now I know where to drop off my dog’s s**t. Thank you,” Donnie Ophime said in a comment on the University of Wisconsin-Platteville TPUSA chapter’s Facebook page.

“F**k tpusa nazis,” Kelly Smith said in a comment on the post.

“I’ll s**t in the box and send it to you,” said Danny Ustianowski in another Facebook post comment.

Most people have heard of the Fibonacci sequence. Many have also seen the Golden Spiral in seashells, flowers, galaxies, and even hurricanes. Because they often appear together, it is tempting to assume that the Golden Spiral is automatically produced by the Fibonacci sequence.

But this is not true.

A simple equation will generate the Fibonacci numbers and the Fibonacci rectangles, but it will not generate the Golden Spiral. Something essential is missing — something that explains why nature overwhelmingly prefers one specific spiral out of infinitely many possible spirals.

To understand what that missing ingredient is, we must take a journey from mathematics into physics, biology, and even philosophy.

1. The Three Mathematical Actors: FS, GR, and GS

To keep things clear, let’s distinguish among three very different entities:

Florida Republicans are fuming as the Trump administration proposes to open up new drilling in the Eastern Gulf of Mexico.

“The new maps released today by @SecretaryBurgum and @Interior outlining potential new offshore oil drilling sites in the Gulf of America are HIGHLY concerning—and we will be engaging directly with the department on this issue,” wrote Sen. Ashley Moody (R-Fla.) in a post on the social platform X.

“Preserving our state’s natural beauty is deeply important to the millions who call the Sunshine State home, our visitors, and those whose livelihoods depend on tourism,” Moody wrote.

The office of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) also criticized the plan, noting that in 2020, President Trump blocked drilling off the state’s coasts.

“Our Administration supports the 2020 Presidential Memorandum and urges the Department of Interior to reconsider and to conform to the 2020 Trump Administration policy,” Molly Best, a spokesperson for DeSantis, said in a statement to The Hill.

It’s a rare rift between the state’s Republicans and Trump, who made the state his primary residence in 2019. While his Mar-a-Lago resort is situated on the state’s east coast on the Atlantic Ocean, drilling in the eastern gulf would be more likely to impact the state’s west coast.

On Thursday, the Trump administration proposed a massive expansion of U.S. offshore drilling, which would include opening up new drilling in the eastern gulf, as well as in California.

California is reliably blue but has a few swing districts where the issue could be a big one. Florida, by contrast, has gone from a swing state to reliably red, so the drilling issue is a rare break for some of its members with the president.

The move is something of a reversal for Trump, who in his first term as president barred drilling off the coast of Florida until 2032.

Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) indicated in a social media post that he preferred the previous policy.

“Florida’s beautiful beaches and coastal waters are so important to our state’s economy, environment, and military community, which is why I have fought for years to keep drilling off Florida’s coasts and worked closely with President Trump during his first term to extend the moratorium banning oil drilling off Florida’s coasts through 2032,” Scott wrote.

“I have been speaking to @SecretaryBurgum and made my expectations clear that this moratorium must remain in place, and that in any plan, Florida’s coasts must remain off the table for oil drilling to protect Florida’s tourism, environment, and military training opportunities,” he added.

The oil industry has argued that drilling even in controversial places such as the eastern gulf is necessary for the long run.

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management’s “updated reserve estimate of 7.04 billion barrels of oil equivalent shows the Central and Western areas will remain prolific for decades, but sustaining the Gulf’s long-term competitiveness means evaluating opportunities in the Gulf of America Program Area B as well,” Erik Milito, president of the National Ocean Industries Association, said in a statement to The Hill, referring to all of the drilling areas proposed by the Trump administration.

“Exploring nearby areas is not only smart policy, it can be a smart investment decision. It keeps the region attractive for capital, extends its productive life, and leverages the strengths that have made the Gulf one of the world’s most successful offshore basins,” he said.

However, Florida is a state whose economy is heavily dependent on beach tourism, and offshore drilling near its coasts is deeply unpopular: In 2018, about 69 percent of voters approved an offshore drilling ban in the state.

The anti-offshore sentiment in the state was amplified by 2010’s Deepwater Horizon disaster, which spilled massive amounts of oil into the gulf, some of which reached Florida’s beaches.

A 2017 paper estimated that 4.15 million trips to Florida were canceled as a result of the spill.

DeSantis was quoted by local media as raising both environmental and military concerns about the plans, given the presence of military bases in Northwest Florida.

“What the Interior Department is proposing to do is really to go back off that policy, and I think that would weaken protections that we worked very hard to establish offshore,” he said. “Yes, part of it is environmental. But part of it is military training. If you go talk to our folks up in the Panhandle who are stationed there, they will say it’s really important to be able to have that access, to be able to do key training.”

Separately, a group of Florida lawmakers wrote to the Interior Department with concerns about an offshore drilling auction they are planning, saying it’s situated too far east.

“We are writing to express concern about a small portion of the blocks available for lease under the Big Beautiful Gulf Lease Sale. … These blocks within the Eastern Gulf Test and Training Range (EGTTR) impact the critical missions at Eglin Air Force Base, Hurlburt Field, Tyndall Air Force Base, and Naval Air Station Pensacola,” said the letter from Republican Reps. Jimmy Patronis, Neal Dunn, Scott Franklin, Daniel Webster, Byron Donalds, Mike Haridopolos, Laurel Lee and Vern Buchanan.

Meanwhile, Democrats in the state also criticized the Trump administration over the drilling plan.

“President Trump is selling out Floridians to his big oil donors, and we feel betrayed. Drilling off of the coast of Florida is way too risky and it is a slap in the face after the damage done by the BP Deepwater Horizon blowout,” Rep. Kathy Castor (D-Fla.) told reporters.

The American people are just now emerging from the longest and most devastating government shutdown in U.S. history.And while the blame lies squarely with Senate Democrats, we cannot ignore the weapon they used to hold the country hostage: the legislative filibuster.

In January, when spending considerations again come due, if Democrats once again choose to shut down the government,then Republicans should immediately end the filibuster.

By wielding the filibuster, which requires a 60-vote Senate supermajority to pass legislation,Democrats inflicted tremendous harm on the nation, including: $11 billion in permanent economic damage; an estimated 1.5 percentage points in lost GDP growth in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2025; 9,500 canceled flights; and the paychecks of 1.4 million federal workers held for ransom by the left’s demands.

For generations, the filibuster has been romanticized as the Senate’s guardian of deliberation. In reality, it is a historical accident that has evolved into a standing veto for the minority and a license for paralysis. What once seemed like a dignified brake on hasty lawmaking now blocks even routine governance. It’s time for Republicans to acknowledge that the filibuster no longer serves the country — and to be prepared to end it.

The filibuster is not in the Constitution. The Framers envisioned debate, but they expected majority rule.

The modern filibuster traces back to 1806, when the Senate, on the advice of then-former vice president Aaron Burr, deleted the “previous question” motion from its rulebook.

That deletion wasn’t a philosophical embrace of unlimited debate;it was a housekeeping measure that inadvertently removed the chamber’s mechanism for cutting off debate by majority vote.

Only later did senators discover they could exploit the gap to delay or block action. In the modern era, merely threatening a filibuster typically forces a 60-vote supermajority to move legislation forward. Defenders of the filibuster argue that it ensures compromise, encourages bipartisanship and protects minority rights.

That may have been true decades ago, but it is no longer the case now. Today, theminority party can abuse the filibuster to the point of rendering the Senate almost uselessas a deliberative body. Democrats themselves have recognized this phenomenon.

That’s why, in 2013, Majority Leader Harry Reid eliminated the filibuster for presidential nominationsother than Supreme Court justices. In 2017, Republicans followed suit for Supreme Court nominations.

Each side justified its move as a response to unprecedented obstruction by the other. And each time, the Senate survived. The Republic did not fall. If anything, accountability improved because voters could finally see which party was governing and which was obstructing.

Though the filibusterno longer applies to judicial nominations,it still prevents the Senate from functioning as intended. Major legislation is now passed only through reconciliation, executive fiat or brinksmanship.

The 60-vote threshold has become a convenient excuse for inaction. Both parties claim to defend “tradition.” But traditions are worth keeping only if they serve the country’s interests.

The filibuster no longer does. Some Republicans hesitate to end the filibuster out of fear that Democrats will one day use that same power against them.

But Democrats will use that power against them whether Republicans end the filibuster or not. GOP senators who defend the filibuster are ignoring basic game theory.

As the classic prisoner’s dilemma shows us, in a repeated game,the player who always cooperates while the opponent who always betrays is doomed to lose.

Democrats have already shownthey are willing to change the rules when it benefits them. They have openly called for eliminating the legislative filibuster when it stands in their way. Former president Barack Obama described it as a “Jim Crow relic.”

To believe they would hesitate to remove it when next in power iswishful thinking. Why should Republicans unilaterally disarmwhen Democrats will never do so themselves?

In any strategic contest,deterrence works only when both sides believe in the other side’s willingness to act. By making clear that Republicans are prepared to end the filibuster — and to govern without it — we strengthen our negotiating hand.

Paradoxically, the credible threat of eliminating the filibuster could preserve it longer than endless appeasement ever could. January will test whether Republicans have the courage to follow through.

If Democrats refuse to negotiate in good faith and close the government on Jan. 30, then Republicans must instantly abolish the filibuster.

We cannot allow a procedural fossil to hold the country hostage. Ending the filibuster would break the legislative stalemate, make government more responsive to the needs of voters and restore the Senate to its proper function.

Moronic Republican David Schweikert Proposes Obamacare On Steroids, Forced ‘Auto-enrollment’ No Consumer Choice

Think Obamacare was an expensive failure and disaster already? Well some Republicans wish to make it far WORSE!

New legislation before Congress, H.R. 3467, should alarm anyone who cares about protecting Americans’ health and autonomy.

The bill, sponsored by Rep. David Schweikert (R-Ariz.) and introduced in May, would automatically enroll new Medicare beneficiaries into the lowest-premium Medicare Advantage plan available in their ZIP code unless they actively opt out. Even more troubling, it would lock them into that plan for three full years, limiting their ability to switch back to traditional Medicare or select a new plan except under narrowly defined hardship circumstances.

At first glance, “auto-enrollment” sounds efficient, with fewer decisions to make at a confusing time. But when you dig deeper, this proposal removes freedom rather than simplifying a decision. Many would find themselves stuck in private insurance plans they never chose, possibly unable to access trusted doctors, specialists or hospitals outside their network.

While Medicare Advantage plans can provide valuable perks such as dental, hearing and fitness benefits, they often impose narrow provider networks, prior-authorization hurdles and higher out-of-pocket costs when care is needed most. If an older adult doesn’t realize they’ve been automatically enrolled or assumes they can switch later, they could discover the hard way that their longtime cardiologist, oncologist or local hospital isn’t covered.

This bill doesn’t simplify Medicare, it substitutes an algorithm’s decision for an informed human choice.

Currently, Medicare beneficiaries can review or change coverage annually during open enrollment. That flexibility is essential: people’s health and finances change. But H.R. 3467 would remove that freedom for three years after auto-enrollment.

Imagine being 72, recently diagnosed with cancer, and realizing your plan doesn’t cover your preferred specialist — then learning you can’t change it for two more years. That’s not a “benefit” it’s a communistic bureaucratic trap.

And the fallout won’t stop with the individual enrollees. Family caregivers, already juggling appointments, medications and appeals, will face greater strain when a loved one is locked into an unsuitable plan. Nearly one in five Americans now provides unpaid care to an adult aged 50 or older. Instead of easing their workload, this bill would multiply their stress.

This bill remains in committee and has not advanced to a full House vote. There’s still time for lawmakers, Democrats and Republicans alike, to step back and reconsider the long-term consequences.
