White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt insisted Donald Trump has not lost confidence in Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem despite sending border czar Tom Homan to take charge in Minneapolis.

Speaking from the White House podium on Monday, Leavitt suggested that Homan was being sent to deal with the escalating situation because Noem was too busy.

“Secretary Noem still has the utmost confidence and trust of the president of the United States, and she is continuing to oversee the entire Department of Homeland Security and all of the immigration enforcement that’s taking place across the entire country,” Leavitt said.

“Border czar Homan is in a unique position to drop everything and go to Minnesota to continue having these productive conversations with state and local officials,” Leavitt said.

Trump announced in a Truth Social post on Monday that Homan was heading to Minneapolis.

“He has not been involved in that area, but knows and likes many of the people there. Tom is tough but fair, and will report directly to me,” Trump wrote. [why wouldn't he report to Noem?]

There have been multiple reports of Homan and Noem bitterly feuding in the past.

While the White House insisted that Trump has not lost confidence in Noem, Leavitt desperately tried to distance the president from his DHS secretary’s comments over the weekend.

The Telegram founder has mocked those who think Meta can’t read your messages

The Russian tech entrepreneur behind the Telegram messenger app, Pavel Durov, has claimed there is no doubt WhatsApp lacks any meaningful privacy, after its parent company was hit with a new lawsuit.

In a major class-action lawsuit filed against Meta Platforms, Inc. in a US district court last week, an international group of plaintiffs from countries including Australia, Brazil and India has accused the company of making false claims about the privacy of its WhatsApp service.

“You’d have to be braindead to believe WhatsApp is secure in 2026,” Durov posted on X on Monday, mocking suggestions that Meta cannot read users’ messages. “When we analyzed how WhatsApp implemented its ‘encryption’, we found multiple attack vectors.”

The lawsuit challenges the cornerstone of WhatsApp’s privacy promise: its default end-to-end encryption, which uses the Signal protocol. The plaintiffs allege that, contrary to its in-app claim that “only people in this chat can read, listen to, or share” messages, Meta and WhatsApp “store, analyze, and can access virtually all of WhatsApp users’ purportedly ‘private’ communications.” The complaint cites unspecified whistleblowers as the source of this information.

A Meta spokesperson, Andy Stone, categorically denied the allegations. “Any claim that people’s WhatsApp messages are not encrypted is categorically false and absurd,” Stone said in a statement, calling the lawsuit “a frivolous work of fiction.”

Durov has long criticized WhatsApp as a “tool of surveillance,” recommending users avoid it entirely, especially following the app’s 2014 takeover by Meta (then Facebook). In 2022, he warned that WhatsApp vulnerabilities discovered “regularly” were not accidents but likely “backdoors.”

For his part, Durov has faced major legal challenges in the EU, after French authorities claimed that Telegram’s moderation policies had allowed criminal activity to flourish. In September 2024, he announced an update to Telegram’s Privacy Policy, stating that IP addresses and phone numbers of users who violate the platform’s rules “can be disclosed to relevant authorities in response to valid legal requests.”

President Donald Trump announced a sudden increase in tariffs on key South Korean imports, including automobiles, lumber and pharmaceuticals, raising duties from 15% to 25%.

The decision, communicated via his Truth Social platform on Monday, directly accuses the South Korean legislature of failing to ratify a “historic” trade and investment agreement that was finalized with President Lee Jae Myung in October 2025.

The Sadducees embodied institutional authority: control of the Temple, alignment with state power, reliance on the written law alone, and legitimacy grounded in office and enforcement. Their power was centralized and dependent on political stability. The Pharisees represented interpretive authority: tradition, commentary, debate, and the application of law to daily life. Their legitimacy came from mastery of interpretation rather than position, making their authority portable and resilient to institutional collapse.

This tension maps directly onto modern legal systems. The Sadducean mode resembles statutory law, administrative power, and state enforcement—law as fixed text backed by institutions. The Pharisaic mode resembles common law reasoning, precedent, jurisprudence, and legal scholarship—law as interpretation adapting to new circumstances. Every legal system must balance these imperatives: stability versus adaptability, authority versus interpretation. The ancient conflict did not end; it became structural.

Historically, the Pharisaic mode proved more durable. When the Temple fell in 70 CE, Sadducean power disappeared with it. Pharisaic Judaism evolved into rabbinic Judaism, preserving law through portable texts and debate rather than institutions. This sustained not only Jewish continuity but a distinctive legal cognition: close textual analysis, precedent-based reasoning, structured disagreement, and comfort with interpretive plurality.

This helps explain the disproportionate presence of Jews in modern legal professions. The cause is cultural, not genetic or conspiratorial.
