Biden-Appointed Judge Blocks RFK Jr's Appointees To Vaccine Panel

A federal judge in Massachusetts ruled on March 16 that Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. illegally appointed 13 new members to an influential vaccine panel beginning last June.
Biden-appointed district Judge Brian Murphy also blocked that panel’s guidance memo revising the childhood immunization schedule and declared its previous votes invalid.
Murphy ruled Kennedy committed “a technical, procedural failure” by skirting around the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) to change the vaccine recommendations for children.
He said the government committed a similar mistake by removing the previous members of that committee, and replacing them “without undertaking any of the rigorous screening that had been the hallmark of ACIP member selection for decades.”
The plaintiffs, led by the American Academy of Pediatrics, originally sued after Kennedy ordered the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to stop recommending the COVID-19 vaccine for pregnant women and healthy children.
The suit was later expanded to challenge the restructuring of the ACIP and its changes to childhood vaccine recommendations.

Refinery in Benicia flaring as it prepares to close

The Valero oil refinery in Benicia, set to close in April, has been flaring due to the planned shutdown of equipment, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District said Monday, potentially sending harmful chemicals into the atmosphere.
The oil company did not immediately respond to questions about the flaring, or burning off of gases, including how long it will last.
On social media, Benicia residents have been complaining about bright flames coming from the plant throughout the day and night for several weeks.
Valero’s plant is set to close as the company announced that it could not keep up with the costs of “turning over” the facility, a lengthy and costly maintenance process that requires the plant’s temporary closure.
The plant’s permanent closure will significantly impact Benicia, a town of about 26,000 people that relies heavily on the plant for employment. More than 200 people are expected to lose their jobs at the facility.
State regulators have warned that gas prices could go up once the plant closes, along with a Phillips 66 facility in Southern California, which is also set to shut down in the coming months.

Murphy's Latest Power Grab Threatens Kennedy's Lawful Health Reforms

For the second time in less than a year, U.S. District Judge Brian E. Murphy of Boston has inserted himself between the elected executive branch and its constitutional authority to govern, issuing a sweeping injunction Monday that blocks Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. from implementing common-sense reforms to the nation’s childhood vaccine advisory structure. The ruling, which freezes both a revised immunization schedule and Kennedy’s reconstitution of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, is the latest episode in a troubling pattern: a midnight Biden appointee wielding judicial power as a political weapon against a duly elected administration.
Judge Murphy’s record speaks for itself. In the spring of 2025, Murphy issued a preliminary injunction blocking the Trump administration from deporting violent criminal aliens to third countries. When the Supreme Court stayed that injunction by a vote of 6 to 3, Murphy simply declared that a separate remedial order he had issued was unaffected by the high court’s ruling and continued to block the deportations. The Supreme Court was forced to rebuke him a second time, by a remarkable 7 to 2 margin, warning that further defiance would not be tolerated. Justice Elena Kagan, a liberal, joined that majority rebuke. Even the court’s most left-leaning members could not defend what Murphy had done.
Now the same judge has turned his sights on public health policy, an area squarely within the executive’s discretionary authority. Kennedy, exercising his statutory powers as HHS Secretary, took two reasonable and defensible actions. First, he removed and replaced the members of ACIP, the advisory panel that shapes vaccine recommendations. Second, he oversaw a revision of the childhood immunization schedule, reducing the number of recommended vaccines from 17 to 11. Both actions were consistent with the administration’s mandate to scrutinize federal health policy with fresh eyes, and both reflect the kind of executive reorganization that every incoming administration undertakes as a matter of course.

Hamas has held its first talks with the newly established US‑led Board of Peace, as the postwar Gaza reconstruction plan comes under strain from the Iran war and continued Israeli strikes on the enclave, Reuters has reported.
The Board of Peace – an international body formally established in mid‑January as part of US President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace roadmap – includes business figures and officials from multiple countries. Critics have questioned its mandate and the absence of Palestinian political representation. The board’s activities have largely been put on hold in recent weeks, as Muslim member states voiced anger over the US‑Israeli bombardment of Iran and debated whether to remain involved.
According to Reuters, citing its sources on Monday, the meeting took place late last week at an undisclosed location in the region and focused on salvaging elements of Trump’s initiative, including a long‑term ceasefire and a reconstruction program overseen by the board. The talks were described as preliminary, with no concrete breakthrough announced.
Hamas officials reportedly used the encounter to demand the reopening of Gaza’s Rafah crossing with Egypt, which Israel shut following its airstrikes on Iran. The militant group reportedly warned that if Rafah remains closed and humanitarian access is not restored, it could walk away from the ceasefire agreements.
Despite the formal truce that ended Israel’s two‑year war in Gaza last October, the IDF has continued to carry out strikes. At least 12 people, including children, were reportedly killed in attacks on Sunday, adding to a post-ceasefire death toll of more than 600. The overall figures exceed 72,000, according to the enclave’s health officials.
The Gaza war erupted after Hamas‑led militants attacked southern Israel on October 7, 2023, killing around 1,200 people and taking more than 250 hostages. Israel responded with a massive air and ground campaign and a blockade that severely restricted food, fuel and medical supplies, prompting accusations of genocide.
At its inaugural meeting last month, the board pledged more than $7 billion for rebuilding Gaza and promised to deploy thousands of personnel to international stabilization and police forces in the territory. While over two dozen countries have formally joined, major Western powers have mostly declined full membership. Russia has not formally joined but said it had received an invitation and was studying the proposal.
