how does Asatru, the religion, describe the ultimate Reality, the highest metaphysical truth and the path to liberation/salvation for man, the purpose of life, the origin of evil/suffering? I don't mean your opinion on the matter, but the actual authoritative, religious position of Asatru.

If you can compare it to a big-world religion which would it be?

>Hedonism implies some kind of perverse extremity of seeking sensual pleasure.

No, it really doesn't. Hedonism has been used as scapegoat by (((Christians))) the same way paganism or nihilism or more recently nationalism has.

Read the principal doctrines of Epicurus and tell me that it's not a very reasonable approach at life

Here's another theory.

Hel = neutral afterlife, where you rejoin your family and your ancestors. the preferable outcome, since family is very important in this life as well as in the afterlife

Valhalla = some sort of consolation prize for the men that died far away from ancestral land, disconnected from family

If you're truly interested in the way the old germanic people viewed death and the afterlife I strongly recommend "The Road to Hel" by H.R. Ellis Davidson. It's an academic study that takes into account archaeological sources as well as literature.

I want to carve some stones but hammering a chisel would be too loud for my apartment building. We do have a Dremel, and diamond coated drill bits are pretty cheap for them if buying generic brand bits. I can decorate small stones with fine detail if using a Dremel. religion as a method of staving of the effects of PTSD.

I've noticed that the warrior peoples of northern europe tend to have a love of combat and violence that is unnusual among other cultures. the constant raids over the centuries dont necessarily adhere to a strict code of honour, honour being (among many other things) a method of internalising and emotionally digesting violence.their own idea of a supernatural ideal valhalla consists in theme mostly of combat.

is it the case that their spiritual beliefs allow for the detrimental psychological effects of war to be lessened? are there any other cultures, pagan or not, that do a similar thing? would the warrior cultures of shinto-buddhist japan be similar? or is it just insecure "if you dont want to fight then you are a bitch" that everyone stuck to?

A bit of background: I come from a ceremonial magick background and I've found the daily ritual hard to give up as I've evolved in my approach to Asatru.

A common element of ceremonial magick (specifically Thelema) is the 4 daily adorations of the sun found in Liber Resh. I really found these adorations to be powerful tools for connecting to certain energies. Below is my attempt to create a Norse version of these mini rituals.

Please feel free to critique, offer suggestions, and post your own daily routine.

- Morning (face the sun rising in the East & stand in Algiz stadha)

o “Hail Sunna, who art like Baldr in thine rising! Your brightness bursting forth to signal the end of Ragnarok!

o Heimdall stands ready with his horn before Asgard and the Allfather abides upon his thone.”

- Noon (face South and stand in Algiz stadha):

o “Hail Sunna, who art like Thor charging forth, triumphant! Blazing across the sky in thine chariot, Oh Swastika burning bright!

o Heimdall stands ready with his horn before Asgard and the Allfather abides upon his thone.”

- Sunset (face West and stand in Algiz stadha):

o “Hail Sunna, who art like Tyr in thine setting – a sacrifice for the good of all! The light-devourer was held at bay for a time.

o Heimdall stands ready with his horn before Asgard and the Allfather abides upon his thone.”

- Midnight: (face North stand in Algiz stadha)

o “Hail Sunna, hidden below you are like Hermóðr on his journey to rescue Baldr from Hel’s world! Ragnarok will come, but its end is not far behind.

o Heimdall stands ready with his horn before Asgard and the Allfather abides upon his thone.”

What's the difference between "adorations" and prayer? Don't Hindus do something like this, a prayer to the Sun? I've been wanting to get a copy of Deep Ancestors by Ceisiwr Serith for a while now, mostly so I can get a look at the prayer and ritual section where he tries to reconstruct similar prayers and such. Your thread reminded me of that.

Kys.

Indoeuropeans have engaged in multiple daily prayers for a long time prior to Arab influence. In fact, this one one of the major criticisms an indoEuropean Persian ruler had against Muslim Arabs attacking his empire - that they had not invented the concept of multiple daily prayers.

>>13872

Yes. Solar worship/veneration is a common theme among IndoEuropean peoples.

Not much of a difference between prayer and adorations. As I use the term, adoration involves more of an "invocational" element when compared to prayer. As written, the above described adorations can allow you to "experience" elements of our spirituality multiple times a day and feel the very real aspects of our stories daily.

Since this thread is here, thought I'd share something interesting.

In Peru, was a group of blue-eyed blond-haired white people called the chachapoyas, or cloud people. Their structures and art style is a bit Celtic in appearance. They were also known for wool production and beauty. In Maya mythology, there is a rain god named Chaac, which has a lightening axe and is associated with warfare. Very Thor-like.

The cloud people were going to team up with the Spanish to fight the Inca, but they fell to disease brought over from Spain.

Several other stories from various tribes across the Americas describe white people of the past with the ability of mining and metallurgy.

GET OFF YOUR LAZY ARSES HEATHENS CAUSE IVE GOT A PROJECT FOR YOU

In related thread >5040 we decided that, to truly establish our faith in a way that it can compete with the Semitic ones, we should compose a book made up from all of the most spiritually important parts of Germanic history. It should weave together history, worldview, myth and conduct into one book. What we are proposing is not a mere intro guide to Asatru but a massive tome, taking up every little piece of lore we can find.

We are not proposing that this become our sacred text to be forced into every temple nor do we claim it to be a Heathen Bible. It will simply be the recorded myths and history of the Germanic tribes, something that can easily be made into a standardized book that can be widely distributed. We have also proposed that art be included in the pages, if any drawfags would be willing to help

Texts that are proposed to be added

Heimskringla

Prose Edda (needs editing)

Poetic Edda

Song of the Sun (needs editing)

Jomviking Saga

Parts of the Nibelungenleid

Select quotes from Tactitus Germania

Niflung Saga

Select stories from the Brothers Grimm, can be edited to have more Heathen tone

Collection of folk songs and war chants

The Berg Dwellers Song

The Dream of the Rood (should be edited to have heathen imagery)

Pow-Wow medicine [not Indjun pow-wow, I mean the stuff used by amish] (needs to be edited for heathen use)

The Rune Poems (Anglo saxon, Icelandic and Nordic)

Pages to illustrate the runes and explain some of their deeper meanings

Collections of prayers, songs and chants

Rules regarding shrines

Volsung Saga

Beowulf

Song of Roland Post too long. Click here to view the full text.

I always thought the Vanir were the gods of the hunter-gatherer and horticultural Europeans, and the Aesir were the gods of the Aryans.

That's an interesting interpretation.

I kind of intuited that the Vanir are peacetime gods, while the Aesir are wartime gods. The Aesir's superiority over the Vanir is perhaps a reminder that readiness for war is necessary to preserve peace.

I don't think there's any precedent for neglecting one clan or the other. In fact, the Aesir-Vanir distinction is only attested in Norse sources. In Anglo-Saxon and continental sources, there are only mentions of the gods. Absence of evidence is not necessarily evidence of absence, mind; it's possible that continental and insular Germanic people did have a conception of the Aesir and Vanir as two distinct groups, but it doesn't seem to be shown anywhere. Anyway, whatever your personal thoughts on the validity or legitimacy of a distinction between two groups of gods, I'd say that there's nothing wrong with - indeed, precedents in all Indo-European traditions - for cults of particular single deities, but being part of a group who tend to a sacred grove to Nerthuz isn't the same thing as being "Asatru or Vanatru".

All really interesting ideas. I've considered and seen posited by others the idea that the Vanir might be the gods of pre-Aryan indigenous northern Europeans whereas the Vanir are the gods of the invading/migrating Aryans of the period just before the Nordic bronze age, as >>13663 said, but I don't know how solidly supported this idea is. I definitely see and agree with the sense of the Vanir being more primitive, more earthy and more material, They tend to have spheres relating to land, fertility, bounty, wealth, whereas the Aesir tend to have more to do with either martial or philosophical/artistic doPost too long. >Sir William Francis Butler: 'The nation that will insist upon drawing a broad line of demarcation between the fighting man and the thinking man is liable to find its fighting done by fools and its thinking by cowards.'

Thanks for the attribution. I had assumed that quote was from some Greek philosopher.

The Aesir always seemed to me to not even have domains in the strictest sense. Thor isn't the god OF thunder, thunder is just what happens when he rides his chariot around and kills giants. Odin isn't the god OF knowledge, he just has a lot of it. They are later assigned these domains, perhaps by occult-minded medieval writers. Somebody in another thread said wiccans treated their gods like pokemon, maybe the same thing was going on there.

Anyway, interesting analysis. Can you recommend a good beginner book on Hinduism?

>Odin isn't the god OF knowledge, he just has a lot of it

Actually the older continental form of him was mainly conected to storms, death and agriculture.

Its selfreflection time!

Former Pagan now orthodox christian, who commited a lot to Rodnovery speaks with a priest about what desillusioned him.

Where is he right?

Where is he wrong?

What are you faulty with what he critisizes?

What are heathens you have heard of faulty of what he critisizes?

Are our efforts fueled by vanity and lack of aim among the other things they list as they say?

Any thoughts or lessons to be learned from this?

His argument, from what I've read thus far, is that polytheism is too fragmented in interpretations, and too split because there are multiple Gods. I *could* understand this argument if it weren't for the fact that our goal should be to reach a consensus that clearly states the values different Gods have in their pantheons, as well as the implications those values have in terms of theological development. Another goal should be to reach a consensus that acknowledges the value to a shared European heritage that different European pantheons and the cultures surrounding them have.

I'll read the rest later, but I'd like to add that the YHWH of the Bible, as followed by Orthodoxy, Catholicism, etc. is still Semitic in origin, and still centers its chosen holy places in the Middle East. YHWH is not a good God - It's the exact kind of demon you should expect Levantine hooknoses to worship. Read the false Book of Exodus to see its true nature.

Okay, finished.

tl;dr 'pagan' myths about forced conversions are false, 'pagans' lack Holy Texts that aren't fabricated by conmen, and there's a positive spiritual presence felt at Churches even by 'pagans'. Plus anecdotal evidence via a miracle, as well as contemplation that all 40+ Christian generations in Russia were traitors and what that entails.

Ye, I'll let someone dissect these points a little, then I'll add my thoughts.

>'pagan' myths about forced conversions are false

lol, literally exactly the same what muslims say when confronted on their warmongering in asia minor and north africa. let's ignore all charlemagne's coercion in saxony, slavic lands of the wends, the various scandinavian christians who forcefully drove out indigenous norse spiritualism, the many cases of christians force converting each other to the TRUE sect etc

>Holy Texts that aren't fabricated by conmen

all the wicca crap is crap, any modern books or texts trying to add to the scoured traditions of our forebears are crap, yes i agree. really the only way our folkish ethno-faiths will return is to get rid of Jewish modernity and live agrarian lives like our ancestors. or to use a National Socialist state to organically invoke a new blood religion - which will inevitably draw on the old faiths. it must be organic, not forced.

>and there's a positive spiritual presence felt at Churches even by 'pagans'

catholics and orthodox directly appropriated pagan art and temples (the ones they didnt destroy in their Jewish iconoclasm), so it's exploiting the plunder taken from gentiles. i do not feel mystified going into a protestant church, which is the closest sect of christianity to its original teachings and scripture - free of most of the pagan adoptions of catholicism and orthodoxy

>that all 40+ Christian generations in Russia were traitors and what that entails.

nah they were just peasants going along with the realpolitik and geopolitical machinations of their masters

Is this nigga for real? There are 15 different Christian churches within as many miles of my house some of them double as synagogues on Saturday

Christians just want to suck their own dicks, regardless of reality. Can we stop making these threads about them? What new has been said?

After reading this, it sounds like the guy went back to Orthodoxy due to disillusionment from the Slavic Pagan scene being mostly a Universalist/Wiccan/Liberal hot mess.

I wonder if he would've stayed if he had gotten up with the Slavic equivalent of the AFA or Odinic Rite.
