Watch Japan's advanced new cargo spacecraft launch to the ISS for the 1st time today

Japan's new HTV-X cargo spacecraft will launch on its first-ever mission to the International Space Station today (Oct. 25), and you can watch the action live.

The robotic HTV-X is scheduled to lift off atop an H3 rocket from Japan's Tanegashima Space Center today at around 8 p.m. EDT (0000 GMT and 9 a.m local Japan time on Oct. 26).

You can watch the launch live here at Space.com, courtesy of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), or directly via the agency. Coverage will begin about an hour before liftoff.

The HTV-X is the successor to JAXA's H-II Transfer Vehicle (HTV), also known as Kounotori (Japanese for "White Stork"), which flew nine missions to the International Space Station (ISS) between September 2009 and May 2020.

At 26.2 feet (8 meters) long, the new freighter is about 4 feet (1.2 m) shorter than its predecessor, but it can loft roughly the same payload mass to low Earth orbit (about 13,200 pounds, or 6,000 kilograms). The HTV-X also offers other advantages.

"HTV-X enhances transportation capabilities and adds the capability to provide various users with on-orbit demonstration opportunities for up to 1.5 years after leaving ISS until reentry," Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, which builds the HTV-X for JAXA, wrote in a description of the vehicle.

The HTV-X's potential uses also extend beyond the ISS, according to JAXA.

The agency envisions it aiding "post-ISS human space activities in low Earth orbit" as well as possibly flying cargo to Gateway, the space station NASA may build in lunar orbit as part of its Artemis program.

HTV-X's debut will increase the stable of ISS cargo craft by one-third.

The currently operational freighters are Russia's Progress vehicle and Cygnus and Dragon, spacecraft built by the American companies Northrop Grumman and SpaceX, respectively.

Only Dragon is reusable; the others (including HTV-X) are designed to burn up in Earth's atmosphere when their missions are over.

Fomalhaut, the 'solitary' star, announces the arrival of autumn in the night sky. Here's how to see it

As night falls on October evenings, glance toward the southeast horizon.

If there is one star that serves to announce the arrival of fall as the leaves have begun to turn, unquestionably that title would have to go to the brightest star within an otherwise dim and obscure star pattern.

That star pattern is Piscis Austrinus the Southern Fish, which resides to the east and south of the zodiacal constellations of Capricornus the Sea Goat and Aquarius the Water Bearer.

It's a V-shaped figure of five stars; faint stars that in most cases, cannot be seen from mid-northern latitudes, for even when they are at their highest above the southern horizon, they are still too low to penetrate the ground haze.

The lone star in question however, that is readily visible is Fomalhaut.

While there is excellent authority for calling it "Fo'ma-lo," as if it were a French word, the name is actually a corruption of the Arabic Fum al Hut, meaning the "Mouth of the Fish." As such, it might better be pronounced "Fo'mal-hawt."

Practically by itself

Look for it this week low toward the south at around 9:30 p.m. local daylight time. If you need help locating it, consider using a smartphone astronomy app.

Shining at magnitude +1.2, this bluish-white star is relatively close by at only 25 light-years away. It's almost twice as large as our sun and is about 16 times as luminous.

Fomalhaut is also part of a multiple star system, with two other fainter companion stars.

Some 2 degrees of arc (0.03 of a degree) southward from it, is a magnitude 6.5 dwarf star that seems to be sharing Fomalhaut's motion through space.

They are so far apart that it is hard to call them a binary system. Maybe these two stars are all that is left of a cluster that dissipated long ago.

But while it is not an overly bright star, it manages to stand out because it's the only truly bright star that dominates a considerably dull area of the sky around it.

Thus, it is easily seen and identified and is of great interest and value to navigators. As such, Fomalhaut is often referred to as "The Solitary One," primarily because it lies in such an empty region of the southern autumn skies.

For those living at mid-northern latitudes like New York, Chicago and Denver it is the southernmost of the visible first magnitude stars.

Acclaimed popular science writer Fred Schaaf notes that this star, "Stands like a lonely lighthouse beacon near the shore of the Great Celestial Sea of water constellations."

Martha Evans Martin wrote a popular guide to the night sky in 1907 (revised several times since) called "The Friendly Stars." Of Fomalhaut, she wrote:

"The loneliness of this star, adds to the somber signs of approaching autumn, and sometimes gives one a touch of melancholy."

Stellar aristocracy

Five thousand years ago in Persia, there were four stars that each ruled over its particular quadrant of the sky.

They were deemed "Royal Stars" that had the privilege of being among the guardians of heaven, and Fomalhaut was one of the chosen four. The other three were Aldebaran, in Taurus; Regulus in Leo; and Antares in Scorpius.

Draw a line between the two bright stars marking the right side of the Great Square of Pegasus (Scheat and Markab) and extending that line downward nearly four times the distance between those two stars will bring you to Fomalhaut.

Home to a planet ... or comets?

Interestingly, in November 2008 astronomers using the Hubble Space Telescope announced that they had apparently discovered an extrasolar planet orbiting Fomalhaut, possessing nearly three times the mass of Jupiter.

However, more recent analyses of existing and new observations utilizing the Spitzer Space Telescope indicate that the supposed planet may actually be nothing more than a knot of material within in an expanding, swirling disk — possibly a belt of comets — composed of gas and dust, that encircles Fomalhaut.

A little fish's claim to fame

Many of the old-time allegorical star atlases from the 17th and 18th century depicted the Southern Fish as a long, slim fish with an open mouth and usually shown drinking the water that was being poured from the great urn of Aquarius; no mean achievement for such a small creature.

That seemingly is what makes Fomalhaut so special; it's got a big personality for such a small fry.

SpaceX launches Starlink satellites on its record 135th orbital mission of the year

The records keep rolling in for SpaceX.

One of the company's Falcon 9 rockets lifted off from California's Vandenberg Space Force Base today (Oct. 25) at 10:20 a.m. EDT (1420 GMT; 7:20 a.m. local time), carrying 28 Starlink internet satellites toward low Earth orbit (LEO).

It was the 135th orbital launch of the year for SpaceX, breaking a mark the company set in 2024.

All of SpaceX's orbital flights this year have been performed by Falcon 9s, which have now launched as many missions in the past 11 months as NASA's space shuttle flew in its 30-year history.

SpaceX has also launched five suborbital test flights of its Starship megarocket so far this year. In 2024, the company launched 132 Falcon 9 missions, two flights of the more powerful Falcon Heavy, and four Starship suborbital tests.

On today's flight, the Falcon 9 came back to Earth as planned, landing in the Pacific Ocean on the drone ship "Of Course I Still Love You" about 8.5 minutes after liftoff. It was the 19th launch and touchdown for this particular booster, which is designated 1081.

The Falcon 9's upper stage, meanwhile, continued carrying the 28 Starlink satellites toward LEO, where they will be deployed about an hour after liftoff.

SpaceX has notched a number of important milestones in the past week or so. For example, one recent mission launched the 10,000th Starlink satellite to orbit, and another was the record-breaking 31st flight of the Falcon 9 booster known as 1067.

And the Oct. 23 launch of the Spainsat NG-2 satellite was the 139th overall liftoff of the year for SpaceX, also a new record.

Without Jupiter, Earth may have spiraled into the sun long ago

Jupiter was shaping Earth's fate before our planet even existed, carving gaps in the early solar system that kept its building blocks from plunging into the sun, a new study finds.

Led by scientists at Rice University in Houston, the study suggests Jupiter's early growth cut off the flow of gas and dust toward the inner solar system, preventing the material that would one day form Earth, Venus and Mars from spiraling into the sun. In doing so, scientists say the planet's gravity not only stabilized the inner planets' orbits but also shaped the structure of the solar system, carving out rings and gaps that influenced how, and when, rocky bodies formed.

"Jupiter didn't just become the biggest planet — it set the architecture for the whole inner solar system," study co-lead Andre Izidoro, an assistant professor of Earth, environmental and planetary sciences at Rice University, said in a statement.

"Without it, we might not have Earth as we know it." Using computer simulations, Izidoro and his colleagues modeled how Jupiter's rapid growth in its first few million years affected the swirling disk of gas and dust that surrounded the newborn sun.

The results show that Jupiter's massive gravity created ripples in the disk, disturbing the gas and forming ring-like bands of material that acted like "cosmic traffic jams," the statement says.

Scientists say those dense rings trapped small dust grains that would otherwise have spiraled into the sun, allowing them to clump together to form the rocky building blocks of planets.

According to the new study, as Jupiter grew and opened a wide gap in the disk, it effectively divided the solar system into inner and outer zones, preventing material from mixing freely between them.

This barrier preserved the distinct footprints of elements called "isotopic" signatures found in meteorites — one type from the inner solar system, another from the outer — while also creating new regions where planetesimals could form much later.

"Our model ties together two things that didn't seem to fit before — the isotopic fingerprints in meteorites, which come in two flavors, and the dynamics of planet formation," Baibhav Srivastava, a graduate student at Rice University who co-led the study along with Izidoro, said in the same statement.

The study also explains why some primitive meteorites formed millions of years later than the first solid bodies in the solar system.

These later-born meteorites, known as chondrites, are considered among the most pristine materials in existence because they contain tiny molten droplets, called chondrules, that preserve the chemical record of the solar system's earliest days.

"The mystery has always been: Why did some of these meteorites form so late, 2 to 3 million years after the first solids?" Izidoro said in the statement. "Our results show that Jupiter itself created the conditions for their delayed birth."

By shaping the disk and halting the inward flow of material, Jupiter likely caused a second generation of planetesimals to form later, some of which became the chondritic meteorites that still fall to Earth today, the study notes.

The same kinds of rings and gaps predicted in the team's models are now observed in young star systems with the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) in Chile, supporting the idea that giant planets sculpt their surroundings as they form.

"Our own solar system was no different," Izidoro said in the statement. "Jupiter's early growth left a signature we can still read today, locked inside meteorites that fall to Earth."

Space shuttle Discovery fight continues as Texas senators rope Department of Justice into their tug-of-war with Smithsonian

A new front has opened in the battle over space shuttle Discovery, and the fight has made its way to the Justice Department.

The two Texas Senators trying to mandate the relocation of Discovery from the Smithsonian Institution's Udvar-Hazy Center in Virginia to Texas, John Cornyn and Ted Cruz, and joined by Texas Representative Randy Weber, are urging the Department of Justice (DOJ) to investigate the Smithsonian for violations of the Anti Lobbying Act.

In a letter sent to Attorney General Pam Bondi and Assistant Attorney General Brett Shumate on Oct. 22, the lawmakers allege the Smithsonian has improperly used federal funds to oppose President Trump's "One Big Beautiful Bill Act," (OBBBA) which orders the transfer of Discovery to Houston, the home of NASA's Johnson Space Center.

They accuse the Smithsonian of lobbying Senate and House committee staff, coordinating with journalists to generate coverage in favor of keeping the shuttle within the Smithsonian's collection and circulating inflated estimates of relocation costs.

The dispute traces back to the "Bring the Space Shuttle Home Act," introduced by the Senators in April. It failed in committee, but was later included as part of Trump's "big beautiful bill".

New language didn't specify Discovery, exactly, but instead directs the transfer of a human-flown "space vehicle" to a NASA center "involved in the administration of the Commercial Crew Program."

When the bill was signed on July 4, it set a deadline for the NASA administrator to select a vehicle, and laid out an 18-month window for the vehicle's relocation to Houston.

In their letter, lawmakers describe Houston as "the cornerstone of America’s human space exploration program," and say the city is "honored" to welcome Discovery.

However, the Smithsonian asserts it owns the space shuttle outright, and has raised serious concerns about the legalities of removing an artifact from the stewardship of the museum's national collection, not to mention the logistics and costs of physically moving the 122-foot-long (37-meter) orbiter across the country.

In a letter to Congress earlier this month, the Smithsonian said both it and NASA have determined that Discovery's relocation would require partial disassembly of the vehicle and that the minimum cost to do so could range from $120 million to $150 million — far higher than the $85 million allocated (but not yet appropriated) in the OBBA.

That estimate also doesn't include the cost of constructing a new facility in Houston to serve as the space shuttle's new home.

The Smithsonian was chosen as Discovery's final home more than 10 years ago. In a nationwide competition to determine where the remaining space shuttles would reside after the retirement of the fleet in 2011, educational institutions, museums, science facilities and space center complexes all submitted bids for consideration, including the Smithsonian and Johnson Space Center.

Moscow, Washington, and Kiev are “reasonably close to a diplomatic solution,” President Vladimir Putin’s aide, Kirill Dmitriev, has said.

Dmitriev noted that Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky recently changed his tone on a settlement and began talking about “battle lines” rather than insisting on a complete Russian withdrawal from all the territories Kiev still claims.

In an interview with CNN on Friday, Dmitriev, who was visiting the US for meetings with American officials, stressed that the hostilities between Moscow and Kiev “will have a diplomatic solution.”

His comments came after US President Donald Trump called off a summit with Putin in Budapest. Trump said the planned meeting “didn’t feel like we were going to get to the place we have to get” toward a settlement, while calling for an immediate halt to the fighting along the current front lines.

Both Putin and Trump suggested that the summit could eventually be organized at a later date.

Dmitriev said, “Russia really wants not just a ceasefire, but the final solution to the conflict.” He noted that Trump himself warned that a “ceasefire can always be broken.”

“It’s really a temporary solution,” he said, adding that pauses allow “many people… to do all sorts of rearmament and preparation for continuation of conflict.”

Dmitriev expressed confidence that Trump’s mediation efforts will ultimately succeed.

He contrasted Trump’s approach with that of former US President Joe Biden, arguing that maintaining dialogue with Moscow is preferable to pursuing a “strategic defeat of Russia,” which he said obviously failed.

Moscow has stated that a lasting settlement must address the root causes of the conflict and include guarantees that Ukraine will never join NATO, along with the country’s demilitarization, denazification, and recognition of the territorial realities on the ground.

Republican Candidate for Governor asks President Trump to Send National Guard to Lewiston

Standing in downtown Lewiston on a rainy night this week, Republican candidate for Governor Robert “Bobby” Charles issued a direct plea to President Donald Trump, on social media, to take action to address what he described as a growing public safety and drug crisis in Androscoggin County.

Charles said he submitted a request two weeks ago to Gov. Janet Mills, asking her to seek a High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area designation for the region. That designation would open federal funding for both drug enforcement and treatment.

He said he also asked the governor to mobilize the National Guard under Title 32, but said she did not act.

“I’m asking you, please, President Trump, use your powers under Title 10, your National Guard mobilization powers and your ability to make Androscoggin County a high intensity drug trafficking area,” Charles said.

Charles, who is running for governor, said the state must be made safe again and that the effort should begin in places like Lewiston and Androscoggin County. “Please, Mr. President, help us. We depend on you. We believe in you and we need you,” he said.

During the George W. Bush administration, Charles served as assistant secretary of State for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement, and as a staffer on Capitol Hill helped craft the legislation that allows states to designate high intensity drug trafficking areas.

Charles said he has also directly appealed to the White House and made personal contact with personnel inside the administration.

“Fear has won out for the moment, but we can overcome it with hope, belief and hard work,” Charles said to the Maine Wire. If elected governor, he pledged to create deterrents to help all towns and “get foreign drug traffickers out of Maine.

“With deterrents in place and with supporting the police, these bad people will go somewhere else,” he said.

The Maine Wire reached out to Lewiston Mayor Carl Sheline for a comment. Mayor Sheline did not respond prior to publication.

US said flying drones over Gaza as more nations join ceasefire-monitoring HQ

The United States has reportedly begun deploying surveillance drones over the Gaza Strip to ensure that Israel and Hamas are complying with the ceasefire, The New York Times reported Saturday.

The move comes as further nations sent representatives to help monitor US-led efforts to enforce the fragile truce.

According to the Times, citing two Israeli military officials and a US defense official, the US military has begun flying drones over the Gaza Strip to monitor the ceasefire.

The flights are being conducted with Israel’s consent. The officials did not say where the drones were being operated from.

The surveillance flights reportedly aim to provide Washington with an independent picture of the situation on the ground and assist the new Civil-Military Coordination Center (CMCC) in southern Israel that has begun operating to oversea the Trump deal.

The report noted that the US has in the past flown drone missions over Gaza in a bid to help locate the hostages, however, these flights appear to signal the Trump administration’s desire to verify developments in Gaza separately from Israeli intelligence channels.

“This is a very intrusive version of US monitoring on a front where Israel perceives an active threat,” Daniel B. Shapiro, a former US ambassador to Israel under the Obama administration, told the Times.

“If there was total transparency and total trust between Israel and the US, there wouldn’t be a need for this,” Shapiro said. “But obviously the US wants to eliminate any possibility of misunderstanding.”

The report said that both the IDF and US State Department declined to comment.

The report comes as the US expanded its coalition of partners involved in monitoring and sustaining the fragile ceasefire in Gaza, with additional countries sending representatives to the CMCC.

In addition to Jordan, the UK, Germany, Denmark, and Canada — whose flags were raised at the hub’s unveiling earlier this week — Australia, France, Spain, and the United Arab Emirates have also joined the initiative, a US official confirmed to The Times of Israel on Friday.

Australia and France unilaterally recognized a Palestinian state last month over Israeli objections. Spain did so last year.

The CMCC, established under US leadership, is designed to coordinate humanitarian, logistical, and security assistance into Gaza while helping oversee the postwar stabilization phase.

Roughly 200 American military personnel have been dispatched to set up the center, which currently hosts troops from several allied countries. US Central Command (CENTCOM) stressed that American forces will not deploy into Gaza itself.

“The CMCC is designed to support stabilization efforts… US military personnel will instead help facilitate the flow of humanitarian, logistical, and security assistance from international counterparts into Gaza,” CENTCOM said in a statement upon the center’s establishment.

The center was inaugurated on Tuesday by visiting US Vice President JD Vance, accompanied by CENTCOM Commander Adm. Brad Cooper and Lieutenant General Patrick Frank, who was appointed to lead the US Army team.

Despite the growing list of participants, the CMCC’s precise structure, command hierarchy, and legal status remain undefined. It is also unclear which countries, if any, will agree to send peacekeeping troops into Gaza as part of a future UN-mandated stabilization force.

Among the main challenges of the force will be to oversee the disarmament of Hamas and the destruction of the remaining terror tunnels under Gaza

Channel 12 reported that Defense Minister Israel Katz told US Vice President JD Vance that some 60 percent of Hamas’s tunnel network remains intact.

The network speculated that half of those tunnels lie near the “Yellow Line,” to which Israeli forces withdrew at the start of the ceasefire on October 10.

China unveils ‘ghost’ drone for stealth underwater surveillance

Chinese scientists have created a ghostlike jellyfish robot that can carry out covert underwater missions.

Described as an “underwater phantom”, the bionic jellyfish robot was developed by Tao Kai from Northwestern Polytechnical University’s school of mechanical and electrical engineering in Xian, Shaanxi province.

According to the university, the robot is nearly indistinguishable from real jellyfish when submerged, enabling intelligent detection and real-time monitoring in aquatic environments.

“Thanks to its low power consumption, near-silent operation and lifelike design, the robot is uniquely suited for deep-sea covert monitoring, observing fragile ecosystems and performing precise inspections of underwater structures,” Science and Technology Daily quoted Tao as saying on Monday.

The robot’s transparent form, complete with an umbrella-like body and tentacles, closely mimics a jellyfish and is made from a hydrogel electrode material developed by the research team.

The result is a compact device measuring 120mm (4.7 inches) in diameter and weighing just 56 grams (two ounces).

The robot moves underwater using an electrostatic hydraulic actuator, which mimics the neural signals that control muscle contraction and relaxation in jellyfish.

Operating at just 28.5 milliwatts, it produces almost no physical or acoustic disturbance, making long-term covert underwater missions possible.

The robot is equipped with a miniature camera module and an embedded artificial intelligence processing chip, allowing it to accurately identify specific underwater targets through machine learning.

In August, the bionic jellyfish was featured in a science programme on state broadcaster CCTV alongside other bioinspired robots, including a robotic bird, a mechanical locust, a gecko robot and a robotic fish.

During the programme, Tao showed the robot’s intelligent abilities, demonstrating how it could maintain a stable hover in dynamic water conditions and accurately identify specific objects, including the school’s emblem and clownfish.

The demonstration showed that a robot inspired by nature could independently perceive its environment and identify targets.

A team member said the robotic jellyfish could be used to observe and track underwater fish populations without disturbing them.

The programme praised the robot as an innovative solution to key challenges in deep-sea exploration, such as energy “endurance”, stealth and environmental compatibility.

Northwestern Polytechnical University has a strong track record in the research of aircraft and robotics. Its developments in bird- and insect-inspired robots, as well as robots that can move through both water and air, are considered among the best in the world.

Tao’s lab, the Ministry of Education’s Key Laboratory of Micro and Nano Systems for Aerospace, is one of China’s earliest research units dedicated to micro-electromechanical systems.

US firm’s drones with 1,000 lbs of suppression power bring faster fire response

AUS startup has secured funding to scale the production of its autonomous firefighting drone technology to tackle rising wildfire incidents.

Seattle-based Seneca is developing the first fully autonomous fire suppression system featuring drones that can deliver fire-suppressing agents at high pressure and use AI to navigate and extinguish fires in under ten minutes.

These modular aerial units can be launched remotely with an approximate fire location, striking quickly during the critical window when a spark can turn into a megafire.

The startup has now announced its public launch and a $60 million funding round, led by Caffeinated Capital and Convective Capital—the largest in fire tech to date.

“Our hope is to empower firefighters in situations that were previously impossible, unsafe, or inefficient. The American way of life has always been about pioneering.

A Florida-based drone company backed by Donald Trump Jr. has reportedly won its largest-ever contract from the Pentagon.

The Financial Times reported on Friday that Unusual Machines had been awarded a contract to manufacture 3,500 drone motors and other parts for the U.S. Army.

The company said it expected the U.S. military to order an additional 20,000 parts next year.

Unusual Machines CEO Allan Evans declined to state the value of the contract.

According to a disclosure, the president's son owns 331,580 shares of the company, which are valued at around $4 million.

"Don has never communicated with anyone in the Administration on behalf of Unusual Machines or about the contract in question," a company spokesperson told the Financial Times.

"His advisory role with them has nothing to do with interfacing with the government."

Charlie Kirk saw a UFO after a Penn State game a year ago. Here’s what we know

The country was rocked last month when conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was shot and killed in Utah.

For fans of Kirk — and the country in general — the wounds of that and the rifts it created have yet to be fully sorted out.

That will take time.

But looking back through the files on Kirk brought a ... well, a pretty weird story from just a year ago.

Kirk was known to be a sports fan, and he took in a lot of games. He made appearances at those and spoke, too.

Kirk was in the house last year and on the sidelines at Wisconsin on Oct. 26 for the Badgers’ game against Penn State.

The Nittany Lions won that game, 28-13, and when it was all through, Kirk hopped on a jet and headed back toward home.

And that is when things got interesting as Kirk shared a video to social media trying to figure out just what in the heck he might have been looking at in the sky.

Not saying it was aliens, but, at least by definition, whatever he saw up there were certainly unidentified flying objects.

Kirk shared a video to X around 1 a.m. that Sunday morning filmed from the cockpit of his flight and there was definitely something strange going on up there.

“I was flying back from Wisconsin on a friend’s plane tonight and got called up to the cockpit,” he wrote along with the video.

“The pilots were very confused at what they were seeing. Something was above them and not showing on radar. I’m sure there is a logical explanation here. Watch this video and tell me what I am missing.”

The pilots pointed out in the video several objects that appeared to be circling high above the plane.

“We are at 40,000 feet,” the pilot said. “So, whatever that is has to be at 80,000 or 100,000 feet. I mean way up there.”

“They are at 100,000 feet?” Kirk asked. “They’d have to be,” the pilot responded.

Kirk later asked, again, if radar would pick it up if it was an airplane.

“What kind of thing wouldn’t be picked up by radar?” he asked the pilot. “Could it be military?”

The pilot guessed it may be something stealth.

He checked their location on GPS at that time, and it appeared they are flying through New Mexico — Roswell, anyone? — into Arizona at the time the video was filmed.

However, the pilot and co-pilot said they had been seeing the circling lights for most of the trip.

The word the pilot kept using to describe it was, “weird.” And it definitely was weird.

Kirk’s followers chimed in with many finding ways to make political jokes about the video, but others tried to offer real explanations.

A popular answer was “satellites,” but in the video the pilots discussed the fact that they did not appear to be satellites because they were circling instead of going in a straight line.

Was it satellites? Space trash? Some sort of surveillance operation? Secret government weapons? Maybe something Halloween related?

Aliens? We never got an answer to what was a very weird situation in the skies.

Evidence of non-human intelligence activity near US nuclear sites gains scientific validation

Thousands of objects sent by a non-human intelligence may have been spying on the world's nuclear tests all the way back in the 1940s.

A groundbreaking study has just been published, providing verified evidence that something or someone was observing our nuclear sites from space long before the first human satellites were ever launched into orbit.

Dr Beatriz Villarroel from the Nordic Institute for Theoretical Physics in Sweden revealed a clear connection between nuclear tests between 1949 and 1957 and an increase in the number of mysterious bright spots called 'transients' appearing in the sky.

These transients are not believed to be a natural phenomenon, with Villarroel saying they showed signs of being highly reflective, like a mirror, and even spinning like a flying saucer.

The publication of these findings was a major milestone, as most papers discussing the existence of unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAPs) are rejected by the scientific community.

Having the work successfully peer-reviewed means other scientists have looked over the data and could not find anything to dismiss the team's findings as just another unproven story about UFOs.

Overall, researchers discovered that the mysterious transients were 45 percent more likely to be spotted flying overhead just before or right after a nuclear test.

'These are objects before Sputnik One when humans had nothing up there, and these things, no matter what they are, they need to be really flat, reflective like a mirror, and I personally don't know anything natural that looks like that,' Villarroel said.

The study, published in Scientific Reports by Villarroel and Dr Stephen Bruehl, analyzed mysterious star-like objects seen in old photos from the Palomar Observatory Sky Survey in California during the early nuclear days of the US, UK, and Soviet Union.

Specifically, researchers focused on 124 above-ground nuclear bomb tests conducted by the three nations, causing explosions in the open air, not underground as these tests are carried out today.

The unknown objects appeared briefly and then vanished, and they were captured on camera before humans began launching any kind of devices into space, so they can't be explained as human-made craft.

Not only did the researchers find that UFO sightings went up on days when nuclear testing was taking place, but the total number of transients spotted in the photos also increased by 8.5 percent.

These unidentified objects were most likely to appear the day after a nuclear test, making explanations that the sightings were just streaks or clouds created by the explosions unlikely.

'Nature can always surprise us with something we could never have imagined. So, I cannot exclude that there might be some other explanation that is just outside my imagination,' Villarroel told NewsNation.

'But from what I see, I cannot find any other consistent explanation than that we are looking at something artificial,' she added.

Investigative journalist and author Ross Coulthart noted: 'The implications are this might be the first scientific evidence of a non-human intelligence.'

Villarroel could not say for sure whether the objects spotted in Earth's orbit in the 1950s were still there, but noted that if they were truly constructed by a non-human intelligence, they may still be circling the planet.

The scientists found over 100,000 transients during their observations, with about 35,000 in the northern hemisphere alone.

The study found nearly 60 of these artificial objects floating in orbit on days when there was nuclear testing, and witnesses reported seeing UFOs.

That number went down to 40 transients on days when only one of these two events took place.

The newly peer-reviewed study is not the only evidence that a non-human intelligence may have been visiting Earth during the Cold War.

A trove of unearthed government documents recently detailed a secret face-to-face encounter with alien beings more than 60 years ago.

More than 50 pages of CIA files, which the FBI has maintained are fakes, claimed that a secret government program established communications with UFOs in 1959.

Before that, speculation has continued to swirl around the alleged 1947 UFO crash in Roswell, New Mexico.

While the US government has continued to deny that an alien craft was recovered, whistleblowers have claimed that the Roswell UFO is real and is just one of several non-human craft the US military has recovered since 1947.

The former CEO of the Minneapolis Regional Chamber of Commerce is facing a federal indictment after he allegedly “abused his position” to embezzle from the nonprofit and steal $30,000 in Crime Stoppers reward money reserved for anyone who helped solve three shooting cases involving children.

A grand jury on Wednesday returned an indictment against Jonathan Weinhagen on charges of wire fraud, mail fraud, attempted bank fraud, and submitting a false statement in a loan application. A judge has since granted a motion to place the indictment under seal.

Following his initial court appearance on Thursday, Weinhagen put up a $25,000 bond to secure his conditional release.

Weinhagen also served on the Mounds View School Board, but on Friday, the district posted a notice on its website saying that Weinhagen had resigned, effective immediately. His term went until Jan. 3, 2025, and the board said it will discuss how to fill the remainder of his term.

Embezzling from Minneapolis Chamber of Commerce

Weinhagen was president and CEO of the Minneapolis Regional Chamber from 2016 until his sudden departure in June 2024.

Charging documents allege that starting around 2019, Weinhagen “entered into sham contracts” with Synergy Partners, a consulting company he made under the alias “James Sullivan.” These contracts allegedly paid out more than $100,000 to Weinhagen’s fake company.

Weinhagen is also accused of taking out a line of credit at Northeast Bank in the Chamber’s name — borrowing more than $125,000 — and transferring it to Synergy Partners for his personal use. He allegedly covered up the scheme by diverting donations from Chamber of Commerce members to pay off the debt.

When the Minneapolis Regional Chamber discovered the line of credit, Weinhagen tried to cover his tracks by faking emails to make it appear as though Synergy Partners had dissolved and publishing a fake obituary for James Sullivan.

Weinhagen allegedly used the money to finance a family vacation to Hawaii, including first-class airfare and an oceanfront suite at the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Honolulu.

In a statement, the Minneapolis Regional Chamber said it is aware of the allegations against Weinhagen and is cooperating with the U.S. Department of Justice’s investigation.

“Over the past 16 months, the MRC has been working diligently to make process and governance changes to help rebuild and strengthen the organization,” the nonprofit said. “The Chamber plays a vital role in the Twin Cities and remains firmly focused on our mission of creating partnerships to unite and grow member businesses and improve the Greater MSP region.”

Leftist Independent lawmaker Catherine Connolly is projected to have secured a double-digit victory in Saturday’s Irish presidential election; however, a historic spoiled ballot campaign and low voter turnout demonstrate a growing disdain for the political establishment in Dublin.

Self-described socialist MP for Galway Catherine Connolly is projected to have won 64 per cent of the vote in Ireland on Saturday, besting liberal Fine Gael candidate Heather Humphreys at a projected 29 per cent, and former Irish Gaelic football manager and candidate for the centrist Fianna Fáil party before withdrawing from the race earlier this month, Jim Gavin, at 7 per cent, the Irish Times reports.

Yet despite definitively defeating her challengers, the victory may prove hollow for the 68-year-old Connolly, with turnout being low — expected to be under 50 per cent — and the number of ballots intentionally spoiled by voters projected to have reached a record-breaking 13 per cent.

Businessman Declan Ganley and others launched a grassroots campaign to spoil ballots amid accusations that the political establishment had closed ranks to prevent conservative campaigner Maria Steen of the Catholic Iona Institute from entering the race.

Under Ireland’s establishment-controlled system, prospective presidential candidates must either secure the nomination of a former or retiring president, the backing of at least four county or city councils, or support from at least 20 members of the Oireachtas (Irish Parliament). The socially conservative Steen fell short of the signatures required from Oireachtas members to qualify. The same restrictive measures also prevented UFC legend Conor McGregor from entering the race.

Arizona Youth Leader ARRESTED for Child Sex Trafficking and Abuse Material

Because of his role as a youth leader, federal authorities are urgently asking the public for help. They fear that more children in the United States may have been in contact with him.

Parents who believe their child may have interacted with Goslin are being asked to contact the ICE Tip Line or local law enforcement immediately.

This case is just one example of how predators infiltrate trusted community spaces—religious organizations, schools, and youth programs—where parents should feel their children are safe.

Goslin represents the kind of depravity that shatters families and scars children for life, yet Democrats in Washington continue pushing policies that weaken law enforcement tools and obstruct federal immigration and security operations.

Several people were injured Saturday in the West Bank, allegedly by settlers involved in a clash with Palestinians and left-wing Israeli activists, as local homes, cars and olive groves were burned in multiple incidents throughout the day, continuing a persistent trend.

An Israeli activist assisting Palestinians in the West Bank told The Times of Israel that dozens of settlers reached the village of Mukhmas, northeast of Jerusalem, and the nearby Bedouin community of al-Ara’ara, where they set fire to homes and olive groves.

Video from the incident showed groups of settlers and Palestinians throwing stones at each other, with later footage showing settlers standing near houses that had been set on fire.

Clips also showed thick smoke and flames pouring out of the area.

According to the activist, two Israeli women who were present at the scene were injured by stones and evacuated to an Israeli hospital, one of whom separately confirmed the incident to The Times of Israel.

Today, the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) is designating Gustavo Francisco Petro Urrego (Gustavo Petro), the President of Colombia, pursuant to counternarcotics-related authorities. In addition, OFAC is also designating several supporters of Gustavo Petro, namely his wife, his son, and a close associate.

“Since President Gustavo Petro came to power, cocaine production in Colombia has exploded to the highest rate in decades, flooding the United States and poisoning Americans,” said Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent. “President Petro has allowed drug cartels to flourish and refused to stop this activity. Today, President Trump is taking strong action to protect our nation and make clear that we will not tolerate the trafficking of drugs into our nation.”

Today’s action was taken pursuant to Executive Order (E.O.) 14059, which targets foreign persons involved in the global illicit drug trade.

Colombia remains the world’s top producer and exporter of cocaine. Cocaine from Colombia is often purchased by Mexican cartels, who then smuggle it into the United States via the southern border. It is a scheduled substance that is a significant drug threat to the United States, despite Gustavo Petro’s recent, flippant comparison of the use of the drug to whiskey.

Gustavo Petro is a former guerilla member who was elected to the Colombian presidency in 2022. He has provided narco-terrorist organizations with benefits under the auspices of his “total peace” plan, among other policies, which have led to record highs of coca cultivation and cocaine production. On September 15, 2025, because of Gustavo Petro and his cronies’ actions, the President determined Colombia is a major drug transit or major illicit drug producing country and that it is “failing demonstrably” to uphold its drug control responsibilities.
