Appeals court says Trump White House ballroom construction can proceed for now.1/2

A federal appeals court said Saturday that President Donald Trumpcan move ahead for another week with construction of a massive new White Houseballroom while judges consider the project.

The 2-1 order from the DC Circuit Court of Appeals is a temporary win for Trump in a protracted legal fightover whether he has the authority to build the ballroom on the site of the former East Wing without express approval from Congress. (At least the Federal Government has to pay for the lawsuit, but the haters spend government money and should be sued for being the suit in the first place.)

The appeals court said work on the project can continue until at least April 17.The court sent the case back down to a federal judge who initially ruled against it,sayinghe needed to look closer at the White House’s argument that construction must continue for national security and safety reasons, and adding that the appeals court couldn’t scrutinize the notion on a “hurried record.”

“It remains unclear whether and to what extent the development of certain aspects of theproposed ballroom is necessary to ensure the safety and security of those below-ground national security upgradesor otherwise to ensure the safety of the White House and its occupants while the appeal proceeds,” the judges in the majority wrote.

Thetwo judgeswho decided to send the case back down wereappointed by former Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden. The dissenting judge was appointed by Trump during his first term.

Saturday’s decision is the latest flashpoint in a monthslong fight over Trump’s desire topush ahead with the ballroom project with little to no outside oversight.

After Trump demolished the East Wing last year to begin construction, the nation’s top historic preservation group went to court to challenge the legality of the project. It argued, among other things, that Congress needed to bless the project. (Which is a lie.)

Senior US District Judge Richard Leon agreed with the group late last month, writing in a stinging ruling that Trump was moving ahead with construction unlawfully since he had not asked lawmakers for permission to build the bold new addition to the White House.

Leon, an appointee of former President George W. Bush,said much of the work needed to stop pending congressional approval but that crews could continue “construction necessaryto ensure the safety and security of the White House.”

“The President of the United States is the steward of the White House for future generations of First Families. He is not, however, the owner!” Leon wrote in the 35-page ruling.

Trump and his lawyers quickly seized on that loophole to argue that the decision was essentially meaningless.

After appealing Leon’s decision to the DC Circuit,Trump’s lawyers told the court in a sharply worded filing that the judge overstepped when he issued a “shocking, unprecedented and improper injunction” that they said “would imperil the president and others who live and work in the White House.”

Arguing that theentire project “advances critical national-security objectives,” Justice Department lawyers asked the court to shelve Leon’s ruling while the case moved forward.

“The upgrades to the East Wing are not cosmetic;instead, they involve the use of missile-resistant steel columns, beams, drone-proof roofing materials, and bullet, ballistic, and blast proof glass windows,” they wrote in court papers. “They also include the installation of bomb shelters, hospital and medical facilities, protective partitioning, and top-secret military installations, air conditioning, heating, venting, and more.”

But the National Trust forHistoric Preservation told the appeals court that Trump was erroneously conflating the bunkerbeing built under the ballroom with the above-ground addition that is replacing the East Wing,which for decades had housed the first lady’s office.

“As is obvious, the absence of a massive ballroom on White House grounds has not stopped this (or any other) President from residing at the White House or hosting events there,” the group’s lawyers said in a filing submitted this week. “Temporarily halting the ballroom project until it complies with the law will not irreparably harm defendants or the nation.”

The ballroom project has been a top priority for Trump, who has long envisioned a large, permanent event space at the White House to replace the temporary structures that are erected on the South Lawn for some key presidential events.

The project has an estimated size ofapproximately 89,000 square feet, according to lead architect Shalom Baranes.By contrast, the primary White House structure, the Executive Mansion, is just 55,000 square feet.

Earlier this month, a board stacked with Trump loyalists that oversees planning for federal buildings and land provided its stamp of approval for the project. But that vote appeared to do little to advance the project given Leon’s ruling days earlier.

At the last National Capital Planning Commission meeting, the board heard from dozens of experts, including architects, historians, preservationists and former White House staffers; representatives from key groups like the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the DC Preservation League and the American Institute of Architects; and concerned citizens who voiced opposition to the project. Just one person, the owner of a local historic event venue, spoke in support of it.

NCPC Chair Will Scharf, a top Trump aide, heralded the project during the meeting, saying the ballroom “will be considered every bit as much of a national treasure as the other key components of the White House.”

MOSCOW, April 8. /TASS/. Data coming out of Ukraine shows that children are indeed trafficked in the country, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a briefing.

"The National Social Service of Ukraine confirms that the country has a child trafficking problem," the diplomat noted. "So, according to this same Ukrainian service, in 2025, 8 children were victimized, in 2024 - 10, in 2023 - 118, and in 2022 - 3." Zakharova emphasized that the Russian side has repeatedly drawn attention to this problem. Furthermore, she noted, it is no secret that Ukraine is one of the world leaders in black market organ transplants and human trafficking.

"Of course, children have turned out to be the most vulnerable group," Zakharova continued. "And not just children, but orphaned children, who the Kiev regime treats like 'parcels,' sending them abroad under the guise of humanitarian actions for their own supposed benefit. I’m not going to post this whole article on Victor Orban, and the possible events that contributed to his loss. It’s not about his corruption, but the corruption by others in his country, that he ignored. He did not partake he just didn’t stop it.

This is a not really a critical article about him,but it points out in my opinion he was distracted and targeted by the EU.Another one of the problems includes the economic lag, but he was drawn into major conflicts with the EU, yes he was targeted by them, but his neglect of sheer corruption of others in his country caused the loss in the election, according to the author.

The author compliments him in many ways, but pointed out disregarding what citizens see was a pierce to his armor.

The author sees what motivated the people,but to me there is no way on earth he wasn’t a target by the EU and Zelensky..

They truly wanted him gone and/or dead. He was the only one in the EU that challenged the “lie that Ukraine was innocent in the war with Russia.” Their biggest problem with the EU is he prevented the $90 billion they wanted to give to Ukraine, while they had already funded $200 billion from the start.

It’s a worthwhile read, not negative but in many ways positive for him.In some way his loyalty that he had to Trump, America and the maga movement, made him the target of the most corrupt EU ever.

That along with country matters the people were disappointed with.But I highly doubt the other guy won by 73%, there are a lot of Orbán and Trump loving citizens there.

He made mistakes but how Orbán-ism will grow in countries.His loyalty to his country was bar none the best.

“The thing is, Magyar is not a figure of the political Left, which remains unpopular in Hungary.What he basically offered voters is “Orban, but without the corruption.” On thekey issues that infuriate Brussels about Orban’s Hungary — his hardline on migrants and asylum seekers, and his adamant desire to keep Hungary out of the Ukraine war — there’s no difference between Orban and Magyar, except that Magyar might even be tougher than Orban on migration. When he takes power, Magyar is going to have to either disappoint his allies in the EU establishment, or disappoint millions of his voters. Personally, I expect him to be the cat’s paw of Brussels. For Hungary’s sake, I hope I’m wrong.

Four Iranian protestors sentenced to death, rights group says

Four Iranian protestors detained in connection with the nationwide uprising in January have been sentenced to death, the US-based rights group the Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) reported.

According to the report, Mohammadreza Majidi-Asl, Bita Hemmati, Behrouz Zamani-Nejad, and Kourosh Zamani-Nejad were sentenced to death by Iman Afshari, head of Branch 26 of Tehran Revolutionary Court.

Amir Hemmati, the fifth defendant in the case, was sentenced to five years and eight months in prison, HRANA said.

They were sentenced to death on alleged charges of “operational collaboration with the hostile government of the United States and hostile groups,” HRANA said, adding that each also received five years in prison on charges of “assembly and collusion against national security.”

The verdict cited participation in protest gatherings on January 8 and 9, chanting protest slogans, throwing objects such as bottles, concrete blocks, and incendiary materials from rooftops, and damaging public property as evidence against the defendants.

The court also ordered the confiscation of all their assets.

HRANA said the accused were subjected to pressure during interrogations, raising concerns about forced confessions.

It was not immediately clear whether the defendants had access to lawyers of their choosing, the details of their court proceedings, or the conditions of their detention.

Too few people are volunteering to join the army, Andre Denk has said

Compulsory military service could be reinstated in the EU, Andre Denk, the head of the European Defense Agency (EDA), has said, citing a lack of volunteers.

Several EU countries have reintroduced the draft since the escalation of the Ukraine conflict in 2022, citing the perceived ‘Russian threat’.

President Vladimir Putin has dismissed claims that Russia harbors aggressive intentions against its Western neighbors.

In an interview with Spain’s El Pais published on Monday, Denk said, “we have a human resources problem, and one of the ways to solve it will be through mandatory military service” – adding that his home country of Germany will likely go down this path eventually.

Denk also urged EU nations to invest more in domestic arms production, with a particular focus on drones and anti-drone systems.

Last year, Finland announced plans to raise the upper age limit for rank-and-file military reservists by 15 years, from 50 to 65, starting in 2026.

The country, which shares a 1,340-km (830-mile) land border with Russia, abandoned its long-standing policy of military neutrality and joined NATO in April 2023.

Around the same time, Lithuania unveiled an expanded conscription plan that would run year-round from 2026 on. It reinstated compulsory military service in 2015 after a seven-year suspension.

In neighboring Latvia, Defense Minister Andris Spruds stated last September that his party, the Progressives, would seek mandatory military service not only for men, but also for women, starting from 2028.

Several months earlier, Denmark announced that it would begin drafting women this year.

In Germany, a new law that took effect on January 1 and introduces a voluntary model has sparked protests, with critics warning that it could open the door to reinstating conscription, which was suspended in 2011.

US Allies Loudly Reject Trump's Scheme To Blockade Hormuz: 'Not Getting Dragged In'

The United Kingdom and several other countries rejected Washington's plan to impose a blockade on Iranian ports and target ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz, which has gone into effect Monday.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer made clear his stance that "we are not supporting the blockade" in a fresh interview with BBC Radio. He emphasized that the UK is not "getting dragged in" to the US-Israeli war against Iran, but still stated that it's "vital that we get the strait open and fully open."

As fully expected Spain's government also condemned the US move, with the country's Defense Minister Margarita Robles having said, "It's just another episode in this downward spiral we've slipped into," adding that Trump and Netanyahu "want to impose rules on the international community, which is illogical."

Earlier we reported that France is working with the UK on a conference to organize a "strictly defensive" and "peaceful" mission to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

President Emmanuel Macron said, "As regards the Strait of Hormuz, in the coming days, together with the UK, we will organize a conference with those countries prepared to contribute alongside us to a peaceful multinational mission aimed at restoring freedom of navigation in the strait." He added, "This strictly defensive mission, separate from the warring parties to the conflict, is intended to be deployed as soon as circumstances permit."

Still, Paris has rejected a US request to join a military coalition to forcibly reopen the strait, essentially paralleling Britain's position.

At the same time Germany has not weighed in strongly one way or the other. A German government statement has said that "The US military's announcement did not mention a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, but rather a blockade of Iranian ports – that is a different approach."

A legal settlement guarantees the Pride flag’s permanent display at the Stonewall National Monument in Manhattan.

The Trump administration has agreed to reinstall the rainbow Pride flag permanently at the Stonewall National Monument as part of a legal settlement. The agreement follows backlash over the National Park Service’s removal of the flag earlier this year, which LGBT advocates argued was an attempt to erase a key symbol of their community.

The lawsuit was filed by several advocacy groups, including the Gilbert Baker Foundation and Equality New York, after the flag’s removal. Under the settlement, the “Pride” flag will be displayed on the same flagpole as the American flag and the National Park Service flag, with its removal allowed only for maintenance.

Both were last seen leaving their homes in New Mexico on foot, leaving behind their cars, keys, wallets and phones before disappearing without a trace less than four months before Garcia vanished.

Meanwhile, NASA scientist Monica Jacinto Reza, 60, disappeared while hiking with friends in California on June 22, 2025.

The director of the Materials Processing Group at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory has also been directly tied to General McCasland through her work to invent a space-age metal called Mondaloy.

The project was funded directly by AFRL while McCasland was overseeing her lab from 2011 to 2013.

In addition to the string of disappearances in the Southwest, five scientists in key areas of research have died over the last three years, including two who were murdered in their own homes.

Nuno Loureiro, 47, was assassinated at his home in the Boston suburb of Brookline on December 15, 2025. Authorities said the gunman was Claudio Neves Valente, a former classmate from Portugal.

However, a former FBI official and independent investigators have noted that Loureiro's revolutionary work in nuclear fusion may have made him a target of a greater conspiracy against US scientists.

Astrophysicist Carl Grillmair, 67, was shot to death on the front porch of his home on February 16, 2026. The California Institute of Technology researcher's work had been heavily supported by NASA's JPL, including major space telescope missions led by NASA.

Grillmair's work with the NEOWISE and NEO Surveyor has also been linked to the Air Force, as the NASA telescopes used the same systems the military relies on to track satellites and hypersonic missiles.

Two other men with deep ties to NASA JPL died recently, with the circumstances surrounding their passings remaining a mystery.

NASA scientist Frank Maiwald reportedly died on July 4, 2024 in Los Angeles at the age of 61, but the cause of death has never been made public, and officials confirmed that an autopsy was never performed.

In June 2023, just 13 months before his death, he was the lead researcher on a breakthrough that could help future space missions detect clear signs of life on other worlds, including Jupiter’s moon Europa, Saturn’s moon Enceladus, or the dwarf planet Ceres.

Michael David Hicks, a research scientist at NASA JPL, passed away on July 30, 2023 at the age of 59, but the cause of death was never made public, and no record of an autopsy being performed could be found.

Hicks had been involved with the DART Project, NASA’s test to see if humans could deflect dangerous asteroids away from Earth. He also worked on the Deep Space 1 Mission, which tested new spacecraft technology that flew by a comet in 2001.

NASA JPL has not commented on the deaths of Maiwald or Hicks, and did not reply to Daily Mail's inquiries into the nature of the scientists' work before their deaths.

In another mysterious incident, Jason Thomas, a pharmaceutical researcher testing cancer treatments at Novartis, was found dead in a Massachusetts lake on March 17, 2026, after disappearing without a trace three months earlier.

The European Union's fuel bill has risen by more than $25 billion since the United States and Israel launched their war on Iran, European Commissioner Ursula von der Leyen said today.
