According to court documents and evidence presented at trial, Robert “Bobby” Leon Smith III, 50, of Archer City, Texas, owned and operated seven durable medical equipment supply companies based in Florida, Texas, and Maryland through which he submitted millions of dollars in false claims to Medicare for orthotic braces and foot baths that beneficiaries did not need.

Smith also owned a marketing company based in Texas that he used to conduct deceptive telemarketing campaigns that targeted Medicare beneficiaries for medical services they did not need. Working with an offshore call center located in the Philippines, Smith and his co-conspirators peddled medically unnecessary orthotic braces, foot baths, and genetic tests to Medicare beneficiaries nationwide. In audio recordings presented at trial, Smith was heard pressuring beneficiaries to accept these products even after the beneficiaries protested that they did not need or want them.

Smith obtained doctors’ orders for these products by allegedly paying kickbacks and bribes to illegitimate telemedicine companies. He then sold these doctors’ orders to other medical suppliers that he knew used them to submit false and fraudulent claims to Medicare.

Epic Games Slashes 1,000 Jobs, Citing “Downturn in ‘Fortnite’ Engagement”

The game studio is in business with Disney, which invested in it and is planning an interactive world filled with its IP.

Epic Games, the studio behind Fortnite, is slashing more than 1,000 jobs as it deals with a “downturn” in engagement with its flagship game.

Epic CEO Tim Sweeney announced the cuts to staff Tuesday.

“The downturn in Fortnite engagement that started in 2025 means we’re spending significantly more than we’re making, and we have to make major cuts to keep the company funded. This layoff, together with over $500 million of identified cost savings in contracting, marketing, and closing some open roles puts us in a more stable place,” Sweeney wrote. “Some of the challenges we’re facing are industry-wide challenges: slower growth, weaker spending, and tougher cost economics; current consoles selling less than last generation’s; and games competing for time against other increasingly-engaging forms of entertainment.”

Epic, of course, is a close partner of The Walt Disney Co., which invested $1.5 billion in the company two years ago, with plans to create a Fortnite-connected universe filled with Disney IP and characters. Disney characters have also made frequent appearances in limited edition Fortnite seasons.

Sweeney is also close to new Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro, who championed the Epic Games deal. Sources close to D’Amaro said that interactivity will be a centerpiece of his strategy for the company.

Sweeney told The Hollywood Reporter after D’Amaro got the job that the exec understood how gaming and entertainment can work together harmoniously.

“Josh and Disney really get it and have a crisp understanding of how the future of their film and TV IP, Disney+ and games fit together into a digital ecosystem and tie into parks and other things,” he says.

In his memo, Sweeney compared the current moment to the 1990s, when technological disruption similarly changed the course of the gaming industry. Epic was a player then thanks to its Unreal Engine.

“Market conditions today are the most extreme we’ve seen since those early days, with massive upheaval in the industry accompanied by massive opportunity for the companies that come out as winners on the other side,” Sweeney wrote.

He also took pain to note that “since it’s a thing now, I should note that the layoffs aren’t related to AI. To the extent it improves productivity, we want to have as many awesome developers developing great content and tech as we can.”

Robert H. Goddard, considered the father of modern rocketry, was born in Worcester Massachusetts in 1882. As a 16 year old, Goddard read H.G. Wells' science fiction classic "War Of The Worlds" and dreamed of space flight. By 1926 he had designed, built, and flown the world's first liquid fuel rocket. Launched 100 years ago, on March 16, 1926 from his aunt Effie's farm in Auburn Massachusetts, the rocket dubbed "Nell", rose to an altitude of 41 feet in a flight that lasted about 2 1/2 seconds. In this posed photo Goddard stands next to the 10 foot tall rocket, holding the launch stand frame. To achieve a stable flight without the need for fins, the rocket's heavy motor was located at the top, fed by lines from liquid oxygen and gasoline fuel tanks at the bottom. Widely recognized as a gifted experimenter and engineering genius, his rockets were many years ahead of their time. FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) — Iran appears to be setting itself up as the gatekeeper for the Strait of Hormuz, the world’s most important artery for oil shipments.The move could cement Tehran’s de facto chokehold over the crucial waterway and formalize its ability to keep its own oil flowing to China.

Iranian communications to the United Nations maritime authority and the experience of ships transiting the straitsuggest the creation of something akin to a “toll booth.” Ships must enter Iranian waters and be vetted by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps.At least two vessels have paid for passage.

Traffic through the strait has fallen by 90%since the start of the Iran war, sending global oil prices skyrocketing and inflicting alarming shortages on the Asian nations that get their oil from Persian Gulf countries via the strait.

Only about 150 vessels, including tankers and container ships, have transited since March 1,according to Lloyd’s List Intelligence shipping information firm.That’s a little more than one day’s normal traffic before the war. Iran’s Kharg Island terminal loaded 1.6 million barrels in March — largely unchanged from prewar monthly loading totals, according to data and analytic firm Kpler. Most of the customers aresmall, private refineries in China that don’t care about U.S. sanctions.

A majority of the ships that have made it through in recent weeks headed east, out of the Gulf;Iran-affiliated ships accounted for 24% of transits, Greece 18%, and China 10% countedby ownership or flag registration. Yet on closer examination, vessels connected toIran accounted for 60% of transitsduring the first part of the war and in thelast few days, some 90%.

Abouthalf of the vessels turn off radio identification systemsthat show their location before going through, and reappear on the other side in the Gulf of Oman. There’s a reason fortheir reluctance and caution. Atleast 18 ships have been hit and at least seven crew members have been killed, according to the U.N.’s International Maritime Organization, which tracks maritime security. It did not specify which nation attacked the vessels.

Lloyd’s List says tolls are paid in yuan, China’s currency

“Iran’s IRGC has imposed a de facto ‘toll booth’ regimein the Strait of Hormuz,” says shipping information firm Lloyd’s List Intelligence.

Normally ships use a two-lane shipping channel in the middle of the strait. Butincreasingly, vessels are taking a different route, to the north around Larak Island, placing themin Iran’s territorial waters and closer to the Iranian coastline.

Entities that want their vessels to safely pass throughmust submit their detailsto what Lloyd’s List Intelligence refers to as“approved intermediaries” of the Revolutionary Guard, including the cargo, owners, destination and a complete crew list. Approved vesselsreceive a code and are escorted by an IRGC vessel. Oil is prioritized and vessels aresubject to “geopolitical vetting,” Lloyd’s said.

“While not all ships are paying a direct toll, at least two vessels have and the payment is settled in yuan,” Lloyd’s List said, referring tothe Chinese currency. (Who thinks the City of London, that is allowing and probably planned this, will harm and steal from any country?)

Some ships appear tohave been allowed through following diplomatic pressure. Two Indian vessels loaded with liquid petroleum gas have been able to pass, according to Lloyd’s.

The case of a New Mexico mother who vanished without a trace last year has now been connected to the mysterious deaths and disappearances of five other key scientists and defense officials throughout the US.

Melissa Casias has not been seen since June 26, 2025, when her family said she uncharacteristically decided to work from home, but was last spotted miles from their house walking alone without her wallet, phone or keys.

Casias, 54, was an administrative assistant at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), a facility founded by the famed Manhattan Project during World War II. It has been tied to nuclear weapons research ever since.

Her disappearance takes the number of people from the scientific community potentially holding highly sensitive secrets who have gone missing or died since June 2025 to six.

Of those six, five had ties to nuclear research or missile technology and four of them can now be shown to have some type of connection to each other.

Casias went missing just four days after respected NASA scientist Monica Reza mysteriously disappeared while hiking with friends in California.

Both women had worked at facilities with ties to retired Air Force General William Neil McCasland, who also vanished near a hiking trail in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on February 27, 2026.

While her husband and daughter have previously suspected that Casias left over personal and financial struggles, former FBI Assistant Director Chris Swecker told the Daily Mail he is concerned her disappearance is part of a much larger pattern. . . .

Is the Recent Surge in Meteor Fireballs on Earth Related to 3I/ATLAS?

In the second half of March 2026, Earth arrived within its closest distance of 54.6 million kilometers from the path of the interstellar object 3I/ATLAS through the Solar System.

By now, 3I/ATLAS is heading out of the Solar System at a distance of 5.3 times the Sun’s distance from Earth.

Back on August 8–12, 2025, data the SPHEREx space observatory revealed a carbon-dioxide gas plume extending out to a distance of at least 348,000 kilometers from the nucleus of 3I/ATLAS (as reported in the caption of Figure 2 here).

In case this gas cloud around 3I/ATLAS was accompanied by solid fragments of debris from 3I/ATLAS, some of these fragments could have collided in recent months with Earth. Let us work some numbers that could educate us whether such collisions are possible.

The ejection speed required for a fragment to cross a distance of 54.6 million kilometers in the seven months that elapsed since August 2025 is 3 kilometers per second. This is just 5% of the speed of 3I/ATLAS through the Solar System, which is about 60 kilometers per second.

But if these fragments departed from 3I/ATLAS ten years ago, when the interstellar object was located at a distance of 126 times the Earth-Sun separation, the required ejection speed would have been only 170 meters per second, comparable to the thermal speed of the gas molecules surrounding it.

This implies that if 3I/ATLAS shed solid fragments from its surface a long time ago, some of these fragments could have potentially impacted Earth in recent months.

In a recent paper that I co-authored with Valentin Thos and Andi Burkert (accessible here), the mass of 3I/ATLAS was estimated, based on its non-gravitational acceleration, to be of order a billion metric tons.

Assuming that a tenth of this mass was broken into fragment of centimeter-radius, a total of ten trillion fragments — each carrying a mass of 10 grams, were shed by 3I/ATLAS.

The maximum fraction of these fragments that could intercept the Earth equals to the ratio of the cross-sectional area of the Earth divided by the surface area of a sphere with a radius of 54.6 million kilometers.

This gives a total maximum of 34,000 fragments that would burn up as a result of their passage through the Earth’s atmosphere and appear as meteor fireballs in the sky.

Crew Off-Duty, Cosmonauts Work Cargo and Station Upkeep

Four Expedition 74 crew members are enjoying an off-duty day following a busy week of science prep, post-spacewalk closeout procedures, cargo operations, and more.

Three other International Space Station residents set their sights on an array of maintenance tasks throughout the day.

NASA astronauts Chris Williams, Jessica Meir, and Jack Hathaway, along with European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut Sophie Adenot all had the day off on Friday. The quartet exercised and spent the day relaxing.

NASA continues to assess potential dates for U.S. spacewalk 95 outside the International Space Station as teams prepare for the installation of future roll-out solar arrays.

The agency has been reviewing the standard spacesuit preparations and other procedures needed following U.S. spacewalk 94 along with other station activities including cargo, research, and maintenance activities

On March 18, NASA astronauts Jessica Meir and Chris Williams successfully completed U.S. spacewalk 94, preparing the 2A power channel and performing additional tasks.

This work will enable the future installation of roll-out solar arrays to provide additional power for the orbiting laboratory, supporting critical systems and its safe, controlled deorbit.

NASA will share the updated date and time for spacewalk 95 once scheduling is finalized.

In the Roscosmos segment, space station commander Sergey Kud-Sverchkov removed and replaced an AC compressor.

He then proceeded to take a health assessment that analyzes how a crew member works individually and with their teammates before conducting some maintenance on the treadmill.

Flight engineer Andrey Fedyaev worked in the Nauka module to replace stowage battery units and test video cameras the crew uses to document work and life aboard the orbital complex.

Flight engineer Sergei Mikaev reviewed the schedule for next week, organized and cleaned up files on station computers, and configured cameras and hardware crewmembers use to take photos of Earth.

He ended his day on Progress 94 cargo operations, unloading food and supplies that were delivered earlier this week, and installed a payload that will assist with acquiring images of Earth in the visible and near-infrared ranges.

Science, supplies, and equipment are soon to be delivered to the International Space Station aboard a Northrop Grumman Cygnus XL spacecraft.

NASA’s Northrop Grumman Commercial Resupply Services 24 mission is targeted to lift off from Space Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida no earlier than Wednesday, April 8 at 8:49 a.m. EDT.

In addition to food, supplies, and equipment for the crew, Cygnus will deliver research to the space station, including a new module to advance quantum science that could improve computing technology and aid in the search for dark matter and hardware to produce a greater number of therapeutic stem cells for blood diseases and cancer.

Cygnus also will carry model organisms to study the gut microbiome and a receiver that could enhance space weather models that protect critical space infrastructure, such as GPS and radar.

Artemis II Crew Arrives at Launch Site, Shares Moon Mascot + extra Artemis

The four astronauts set to fly around the Moon on NASA’s Artemis II test flight arrived at the agency’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida, Friday, March 27.

NASA continues to target as soon as Wednesday, April 1, for launch within a two-hour window that opens at 6:24 p.m. EDT.

During remarks at Kennedy’s Launch and Landing Facility, Artemis II commander Reid Wiseman announced “Rise,” designed by Lucas Ye of Mountain View, California, as the zero gravity indicator that will fly with the crew around the Moon.

“Rise” was inspired by the iconic Earthrise moment from the Apollo 8 mission. A zero gravity indicator is a small plush item that typically rides with a crew to visually indicate when they are in space.

The design was selected from more than 2,600 submissions from over 50 countries, including K-12 students, that were part of a Moon Mascot contest.

During the selection process, the crew narrowed a list of 25 finalists to five top designs, including:

No hospitals in space: Astronaut details health scare above Earth

A sudden medical emergency ended Michael Fincke’s ISS mission early. The cause remains unknown, highlighting risks of long-duration spaceflight.

More than two months after a medical emergency aboard the International Space Station abruptly ended his crew’s mission, astronaut Michael Fincke still doesn’t know what caused his sudden illness.

Fincke said he experienced a brief period in which he was unable to speak, describing the episode as something that “came out of the blue.”

“We were getting ready for a spacewalk on Jan. 8, and the evening before we had just met with the doctors,” he said. “I was feeling super. Everyone was feeling super. And then I wasn’t.”

Four crew members returned to Earth in January after their five-month mission was cut short. NASA did not comment on the severity of the medical issue, citing privacy concerns.

Fincke said he was eating dinner when he suddenly could not talk.

“My crewmates saw I was in distress and immediately started taking care of me,” he said. “One of the Russian crewmates went to get the others, and it was all hands on deck within seconds.”

Within moments, flight doctors on the ground were looped in via video and guided the crew through initial diagnostic tests.

Unlike on Earth, there are no hospitals in space. NASA stocks medical supplies aboard the station, but they are minimal compared to what is available on the ground.

“I did my own echocardiogram—we have ultrasounds there—and it looked like I did not have a heart attack,” Fincke said. “We ran a few other tests to rule out some big issues.

Eventually, we felt comfortable saying we didn’t know what was going on, but to rule out serious possibilities, we needed to come back to Earth.”

During their mission, the crew marked the 25th anniversary of continuous operations on the ISS and completed more than 140 experiments.

Fincke believes his sudden illness may have been linked to prolonged exposure to microgravity.

He hopes the experience will help NASA develop strategies to keep astronauts safe during longer missions.

The incident comes as NASA prepares to send a crew on a lunar flyby, potentially as soon as this week. The Artemis program is designed to pave the way for a crewed mission to Mars — a journey that could keep astronauts away from Earth for years.

“It’s a really interesting time right now,” Fincke said. “As we prepare to spend more time on the moon and Mars, the space station is showing its value in low Earth orbit, helping us understand how humans and microgravity interact.”

Celeste’s first satellites launched to explore LEO-based satellite navigation

On 28 March, the European Space Agency (ESA) took a major step forward in strengthening Europe's ambition for more resilient satellite navigation, as the first two satellites of the Celeste in-orbit demonstration mission lifted off from New Zealand aboard Rocket Lab’s Electron.

Their mission is to begin testing a complementary low Earth orbit layer for Galileo.

The two satellites – built respectively by GMV and Thales Alenia Space - were launched at 10:14 CET and separated from the launcher about an hour later.

This marks the beginning of their early operations phase, during which mission control gets them ready for life in orbit.

The two satellites will validate core technologies and new signals and service capabilities and will bring into use the required frequencies in L- and S-band signals for the mission’s operational phase, in adherence to International Telecommunication Union regulations.

Additional launches in 2027 will bring the mission to its full configuration of 11 spacecraft in orbit offering a wide range of experimentation opportunities in different frequency bands, user environments and applications.

“With this mission, we are exploring new frontiers for satellite navigation.

Celeste will demonstrate how a satellite navigation constellation in low Earth orbit can complement Europe’s current Galileo system in medium Earth orbit.

Celeste was among the first ESA missions to embrace a New Space-inspired development approach, enabling faster and more flexible deployment of satellites and technical capabilities, and ultimately ensuring Europe stays at the forefront of innovation in satellite navigation,” said ESA Director General Josef Aschbacher.

“Over the past two decades, satellite navigation has become integral to our society. Galileo and EGNOS are a European success today, fuelling our society, generating economic growth while ensuring our independence and security.

With Celeste, ESA is ensuring that Europe continues to pioneer innovation in positioning, navigation and timing. The mission will demonstrate how a complementary layer in low Earth orbit can enhance Europe’s current navigation systems, making them more resilient, more robust, and capable of delivering entirely new services,” said Francisco-Javier Benedicto Ruiz, ESA’s Director of Navigation.

By flying closer to Earth, Celeste offers the opportunity for more robust signals and new frequencies.

The mission will offer an in-orbit test bench for a broad range of applications, such as enhanced navigation capabilities for autonomous vehicles, railway, maritime, and aviation, increased availability in urban canyons and remote polar and arctic regions, enhanced positioning and messaging with emergency services during disasters, tracking of connected devices and Internet-of-Things applications, and even indoor navigation.

Following the demonstration activities, the Celeste in-orbit preparatory (IOP) phase, fully supported by ESA Member States at CM25, will leverage European industry to validate the technologies in-orbit and build pre-operational infrastructure.

Ultimately, the results of the Celeste mission will prepare European industry and support the European Union’s decision towards the establishment of an operational navigation layer in LEO, complementing Galileo and EGNOS, Europe's current position, navigation and timing systems.

Astrophotographer captures spectacular photo of Antennae Galaxies dueling in deep space

Astrophotographer Greg Meyer took aim at the constellation Corvus to capture a majestic view of the Antennae Galaxies, whose once spiral forms have been rendered chaotic as they merge into a single elliptical monster of a galaxy.

The deep space image captures a fleeting moment in a titanic struggle that has lasted hundreds of millions of years, as the gravitational influence of the galaxies NGC 4038 and NGC 4039 pulls at one another to create chaos on a truly cosmic scale.

"I have a Sky-Watcher Esprit 120 [telescope] with a focal length of 840mm, which is a little short for most galaxies, this being galaxy season now," Meyer told Space.com in an email.

"So whenever I see a picture of a galaxy, I see if it is within reach for me by checking Astrobin for photos taken with the same scope. And since this is such a cool image of 2 galaxies, with an amazing backstory, I had to go for it."

Meyer's shot reveals the orange-yellow cores of the dueling galaxies glowing in a maelstrom of interstellar dust, gas and stars, from which a pair of sweeping "tidal tails" made from elongated spiral arms reach out for light-years on either side.

The sweeping structures bear a striking resemblance to the sensory organs sported by members of the insect world, which eventually granted them the nickname of the Antennae Galaxies.

The cosmic tug of war has triggered an outburst of star formation, which has led to the creation of "super star clusters" in the vast antenna-like arms, according to NASA.

90% of these goliath clusters are likely to disperse as the galaxies merge and settle, while others will persevere as globular clusters.

Meyer dedicated just under 21 hours of observation time collecting light from the distant galaxies using a series of astronomy filters as they glowed in the skies over the Starfront Observatory in Rockwood, Texas.

The light data was then compiled and edited using Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom in concert with the astrophotography software PixInsight.

Scientists Reveal How Gold Is Created in Space

Nuclear physicists at the University of Tennessee have made three discoveries that bring scientists closer to understanding how gold is created during violent events in space.

The findings shed light on a process that produces heavy elements such as gold and platinum when stars collapse, explode or collide.

These stellar events trigger a chain reaction known as the rapid neutron capture process, or r-process. During this process, atomic nuclei absorb neutrons one after another.

As each nucleus grows heavier, it becomes unstable and eventually splits apart into lighter forms. One key step in that chain involves a sequence where beta decay precedes the emission of two neutrons, which has been difficult to study until now.

The team worked alongside researchers from other institutions at the ISOLDE Decay Station at CERN. They focused on indium-134, a rare and short-lived isotope that is difficult to produce in large amounts.

When indium-134 decays, it generates excited versions of three tin isotopes: tin-132, tin-133 and tin-134. Professor Robert Grzywacz said producing these nuclei in sufficient quantities requires advanced technology.

How gold gets created in space through stellar collisions

A neutron detector constructed at the university, with funding from the National Science Foundation Major Research Instrumentation program, allowed the team to record the energies of neutrons released during beta-delayed two-neutron emission.

Grzywacz said this was the most significant result because this type of emission occurs only in short-lived exotic nuclei, and no previous experiment had measured those energies. He added that it opens an entirely new area of research.

The second discovery confirmed a neutron state in tin-133 that theorists had anticipated for years but never detected in an experiment. Grzywacz explained that tin-133 does not fully lose the imprint of its origin after beta decay.

A trace of its earlier state remains, which he described as the nucleus retaining a kind of memory. He noted that researchers had been searching for this state for two decades before the two-neutron data finally revealed it.

Finding challenges models for exotic nuclear behavior

The third finding showed that this newly identified state was populated in a way that did not match standard statistical expectations.

Grzywacz said the result was more striking because the decay conditions were relatively clean and well separated, which makes the deviation from expected behavior harder to explain.

He said scientists will likely need to develop entirely new theoretical models to describe exotic nuclei far from stability.

Graduate student Peter Dyszel led the data analysis and co-authored the study, published in Physical Review Letters.

He also built detector frames, assembled equipment, developed software, and tested electronic systems throughout the experiment.

China planning human research program at space station

The China Manned Space Agency announced that it would solicit proposals for a space human research program starting April 1, targeting major strategic, fundamental, and forward-looking scientific issues related to the long-term healthy survival of humans during future space station flights and lunar landing missions.

The program aims to create a space human atlas, establish a space human research database, and yield a series of innovative research outcomes that can benefit both the health of taikonauts on long-duration orbital missions and the public on Earth.

It is also part of the country's efforts to accelerate the construction of aerospace power and technological power, according to the program guidelines issued by the agency this week.

Taking human samples, organoids and cells as research objects, the program will study the effects of microgravity on bones and muscles and the impacts of long-term spaceflight and post-return conditions on the heart and blood vessels, metabolism, cognition, and aging.

Space medicine experiments are among the crucial research areas aboard the Chinese space station Tiangong, which means Heavenly Palace.

Since a public solicitation announcement issued in June 2023, a total of 387 projects have been submitted, and 53 of them have been conducted on the national space lab, the agency said.

China is targeting a crewed lunar landing by 2030. Moreover, the orbiting Tiangong space station will receive two crews this year, and one taikonaut involved will undertake an orbital stay lasting over one year.

As long-term crewed missions in space become more frequent, ensuring taikonauts' well-being has become a matter of public concern.

Space medicine research has also helped advance public health on Earth.

According to Li Yinghui, a researcher at the China Astronaut Research and Training Center, the country has made several achievements in the field, including completing the country's first research on a space organ chip and the world's first involving an artificial blood vessel tissue chip.

These research results have provided theoretical and technological support for studies into heart health, the muscular system, neurodegenerative diseases, human aging, and drug protection and screening.

According to Vandenberg Space Force Base, security personnel responded to a suspicious vehicle near the Santa Maria Gate around 10:10 a.m. Friday morning.

A military working dog team alongside members of the 30th Civil Engineer Squadron Explosive Ordinance Disposal team searched the involved vehicle and area, but no threats nor explosives were detected noted Vandenberg Space Force Base.

US Space Command opening new top secret facility at Redstone Arsenal next month

U.S. Space Command headquarters’ relocation from Colorado to Huntsville, Alabama continues with the opening of a top-secret facility at Redstone Arsenal next month.

“Next month in April, we would do our first ribbon cutting on a top-secret SCIF (sensitive compartmented information facility) that will seat over 80 people,” Gen. Stephen Whiting, the command’s commander, said Thursday before the Senate Armed Services Committee.

In line with the phased relocation plan, the command would operate “from interim facilities while a dedicated, purpose-built warfighting platform, designed to meet the demands of USSPACECOM’s mission needs is constructed,” Whiting said in his written statement.

And to encourage people to move, there are relocation incentives.

“We also are offering retention incentives because I need my workforce to stay with me in Colorado until their function is ready to move,” the commander added.

During questioning by Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., Whiting said he expects groundbreaking for the headquarters in 2027 with completion by 2031.

Currently, he explained, about 20 staff are operating from an office at the arsenal.

“And then by the end of this year, we are targeting that number to be closer to 200 people that will be working from Redstone from our headquarters,” he said.

GRAPEVINE, TEXAS — Joseph Bolick feels betrayed by President Donald Trump. And it’s because of the war in Iran.

The 30-year-old Iraq and Afghanistan war veteran voted for Trump in 2024. But at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference gathering this week he sported a hat emblazoned with “America First” — a slogan Trump championed during his campaign, along with the promise not to start new wars in foreign countries. (He didn’t start this war, it’s been ongoing in Iran forever. )

“He’s lied about everything,” said Bolick. “If you go into a war where there’s no end game, how is it going to end? There’s no clear objective.”

Bolick is part of acohort of young MAGA loyalists who are increasingly frustrated with Trump over the war in Iran. While Trump’s decision to join Israel in attacking Iran has rallied war hawks and his older supporters, it has alienated many of the young men who swung toward the GOP in 2024. That split is resonating among not only the rank-and-file, ==but also (fake) conservative media influencers and some corners of the White House.

The generational divide was on stark display at CPAC, the annual conservative base-rallying gathering, where some young MAGA loyalists expressed deep frustration and even anger at the Trump administration’s choice to reignite conflict in the Middle East. One month into the war, Trump’s shaky ground with young men threatens to fracture an already-fragile GOP coalition ahead of a hostile midterm in November.

At the conference in north Texas, some attendees carried around Iranian flags, pledging loyalty to the U.S. mission overseas, while others donned America First hats and preached about the need for anti-interventionism.

“Trump and Republicans in general are going to have major issues in the midterms, in 2028, if we can’t wrap this up in a relatively quick amount of time,” said 21-year-old Andrew Belcher, president of the Ohio College Republicans. He added that Trump is doing “relatively poorly” with hyper online young men who are influenced heavily by media figures like Tucker Carlson and other isolationists in the GOP.

A POLITICO poll this month found that Trump voters largely continue to back him. But men who self-identified as “MAGA Republicans” and voted for Trump in 2024 are deeply split by generation over their trust in the president and their view of the war, especially if the number of U.S. casualties rises.

The contrast was striking, even with the larger margins of error that come from the smaller sample sizes:More than 70 percent of those over 35 believe Trump has a plan, compared with 49 percent of those under 35.. A 66 percent majority of older MAGA men are willing to sacrifice American lives in order for the U.S. to achieve its goals in Iran,compared with less than half of younger MAGA men who say the same. And the younger men are significantly less likely to say the war is aligned with MAGA principles and in the interests of American people. (Fuck them, nothing is aligned with MAGA policy, but when the President is forced into war, he will never cower. These youngins have no idea the danger the world is in today because of Iran.)

The US “worked directly with Al-Qaeda” and Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) to topple former President Bashar Assad and destroy Syria, US President Donald Trump’s former counterterrorism chief, Joe Kent, has said.

Kent, who resigned as head of the US National Counterterrorism Center in protest of the US-Israeli war against Iran, made the remarks in an interview with MintPress News on Friday.

The former senior official reiterated his take on the Iran conflict as the latest in a series of wars waged by the US on behalf of Israel, preceded by the Second Iraq War and the Syrian Civil War, in which Washington actively backed terrorist groups, he said.

“We came in and we said: We’re going to work with the Israelis, but we’re also going to have to work heavily with the Sunni population on the ground in Syria to create an uprising,” he added.

“And that’s where ISIS came from. We worked directly with Al-Qaeda; Hillary Clinton’s emails confirm this. The operations that we were doing to support the so-called Free Syrian Army, and there were some moderates there, but the most effective guys initially were Al-Qaeda and then eventually ISIS.”

IS ultimately “got out of control,” and the US “had to go back and put out once again the brush fire that we had started,” Kent said, referring to the US occupation of parts of Syria on the pretext of fighting terrorism.

The efforts to destroy Syria ultimately resulted in the fall of the Assad government in late 2024 and the Islamist takeover led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), a rebranded Al-Qaeda offshoot.

Kent lashed out at the former leader of the HTS and Syrian interim president, Ahmed al-Sharaa, pointing to his long record of terrorism – which did not prevent the Trump administration from recognizing his government as legitimate.

“We had him in jail; [he] joined ISIS, broke off from ISIS, hand-selected by Bin Laden’s right-hand man, Ayman Zawahiri, to lead Nusra, and then they rebranded,” Kent said, adding that the “number one way to fool Americans as a jihadist is just put on a suit.”

UK iPhone and iPad owners updating to the latest iOS 26.4 are now confronted with a stark choice: verify you are an adult by providing a credit card or scanning your ID, or accept automatic web content filters that restrict access.

The message users see states clearly: “UK law requires you to confirm you are an adult to change content restrictions.”

Those who do not confirm their age – or are found to be underage – have web content filters turned on automatically.

The government appointed communications watchdog Ofcom welcomed the development, calling it “a real win for children and families” and noting the UK would be “one of the first countries in the world to receive such restrictions on their devices.”

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A federal judge has dismissed the criminal case against two former Louisville Metro Police officers in the Breonna Taylor case.

Former detective Joshua Jaynes and former Sgt. Kyle Meany were accused of providing and lying about false information in a search warrant used by police to burst into Taylor's house, resulting in her death.

Both were indicted by the DOJ's prosecutors working under then-President Joe Biden's administration. The case was tied up in the federal court system for several years, stretching into President Donald Trump's term.

U.S. District Judge Charles Simpson issued a one-page ruling Friday throwing out charges against Jaynes and Meany.

The U.S. Department of Justice made a motion last week for a federal judge to dismiss the criminal case, with prejudice, against Jaynes and Meany "in the interest of justice."

In a statement Friday, March 20, U.S. attorney Kyle Bumgarner said the U.S. State Attorney's office for the Western District of Kentucky and all of its employees "have been recused from all investigations and decisions concerning Breonna Taylor."

"Since the inception of the investigation in 2020, all prosecutorial decisions have been made by Main Justice without consultation with my office," Bumgarner said.

Taylor's mother, Tamika Palmer, shared her disappointment in the DOJ's move in a post on social media.

"I am compelled to express my extreme disappointment in Trump and the Department of Justice. Their phone call today informing me that charges against the police are being dropped while implying they have helped me is utterly disrespectful," Palmer wrote. "This is the first time I've heard from them since they took over and it's clear they have not served me or Breonna well. Their behavior is deplorable. F*** Trump and his DOJ administration."

This comes months after a federal judge dismissed the most serious felony charges — carrying a maximum sentence of life in prison — against the two former officers.

While saying he was "seriously troubled" by their alleged actions, U.S. District Court Judge Charles Simpson ruled the officers shouldn't be charged with depriving Taylor's rights under color of law and causing her death.

Prosecutors sought to "severely punish" Jaynes and Meany, believing police never should been at Taylor's door and, without the false warrant, she would still be alive, the judge wrote.

But Jaynes and Meany weren't at the raid and "the government cannot attribute Taylor's death to the lack of a warrant supported by probable cause," Simpson said in the ruling.

Taylor was killed when her boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, fired a shot after police burst in early in the morning as part of a series of searches revolving around a drug dealer who once dated Taylor. Walker said he thought the couple were being robbed. Police fired 32 shots in response, killing Taylor.

Simpson ruled officers returning fire was a legal act, "thus, this is not a case of excessive force. Nor is it a case of police brutality. ... This is a case of legal, lethal and tragic crossfire that was not initiated by the police."

According to Politico, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton was spotted in Mar-a-Lago last Friday talking face-to-face with President Trump.

With the base and President Trump still leveraging everything possible for the SAVE America Act, President Trump seems unlikely to endorse John Cornyn or Ken Paxton until the dust on that issue settles.

The only way Senator John Cornyn can survive the primary challenge from Paxton is if President Trump endorses the incumbent. If President Trump stays out of the race, Ken Paxton looks likely to achieve victory.

Surprisingly, the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSCC) has not spent more money on Cornyn, another good sign.

“Today, at the direction of President Trump and the Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin,TSA has immediately begun the process of paying its workforce,” a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security said in a statement.“TSA officers should begin seeing paychecks as early as Monday, March 30.“

DHS continued to blame Democrats for the ongoing turmoil, saying workers are experiencing “financial catastrophes” as lawmakers remain at an impasse. House Republican leaders on Friday rejected the Senate-passed DHS funding bill,which omits funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement as well as Border Patrol and some other parts of Customs and Border Protection.

TSA lines across airports showed no signs of reprieve Friday.Passengers continue to suffer through hourslong delays at airports as the spring break travel season is in full swing.

The callout rate for TSA workers at some airports has ballooned to nearly 50 percent.Roughly 500 security screeners have quit since the start of the shutdown, according to TSA.

French police stopped an apparent bomb attack outside a Bank of America building in Paris early Saturday, and a man was arrested as he was about to set off a homemade explosive device.

Police grabbed the man just after he placed a device, made of nine pints of a liquid believed to be fuel, 23 ounces of explosive powder, and an ignition system, according to an initial assessment. The device will undergo a full analysis at the Paris police's forensics lab.

The incident occurred around 3:30 a.m., while the office was closed. No employees were injured, according to the bank. The building is located in Paris' chic 8th arrondissement, a few streets away from the Champs-Élysées.

A suspect is in custody, France's National Anti-Terrorist Prosecutor's Office told CBS News.

The office told CBS News it has opened an investigation into the charges of attempted arson or dangerous damage in connection with a terrorist enterprise, manufacture of an incendiary or explosive device in connection with a terrorist enterprise, possession and transport of an incendiary or explosive device with the intent to prepare dangerous damage, in connection with a terrorist enterprise and terrorist conspiracy.

The Paris police and France's domestic intelligence service are also investigating, the prosecutor's office said.

Bank of America head of global media relations Jessica Oppenheim told CBS News that the company is "aware of the situation" and is "communicating with authorities."

French interior minister Laurent Nunez praised the police officers' fast actions on X and said they stopped "a violent action of a terrorist nature last night in Paris."

Ali Fouladvand, head of research at Iran’s Organization of Defensive Innovation and Research (SPND), a successor to the country’s pre-2004 nuclear weapons program, was killed along with members of his family in airstrikes on Borujerd on Saturday morning, Iranian media reported.

Iranian media described him as “an ordinary citizen” while reporting his death, despite SPND’s role in overseeing sensitive military-related research.

Fouladvand had survived an earlier attack during the 12-day war last June, in which his wife, Masoumeh Pirhadi, was killed.

He was sanctioned by the US State Department on October 1, 2025. No images of him have been publicly released.

DOHA, Qatar —Russia took satellite images of a U.S. air base in Saudi Arabia three times in the days before Iran attacked the site and wounded American troops, according to a summary of Ukrainian intelligence shared with NBC News by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

In an interview in the Gulf nation of Qatar on Saturday,Zelenskyy said he was “100%” confident Russia was sharing such intelligence with Iran to help target U.S. forcesacross the Middle East.

“I think that it’s in Russia’s interest to help Iranians.And I don’t believe — I know — that they share information,” he said. “Do they help Iranians? Of course. How many percent? One-hundred percent.”

During the interview, Zelenskyy shared a summary of the daily presidential briefing he receives from Ukraine’s spy agencies. The report stated that Russian satellites had taken images of the Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia on March 20, March 23 and March 25. (Why would he know this before the US knew it? That wouldn’t!)

On March 26, Iran attacked the base, which hosts U.S. forces as well as Saudi troops. The strike wounded a number of American service members, two U.S. officials said Friday, though none of the injuries were considered life-threatening.
